Biggest Loser Sam Firefighting Beefcake

Season 3 winner Sam Rouen has not only kept the weight off, he’s become a firefighter and is now in the running to be in the 2016 fundraising calendar.

Sam was dumped in it by his mates at work but he’s using it as further motivation to keep up the hard work in the gym.

Thanks for the tip, Anne!

Season 3, Episode 17: The Walk really, really sucks. And is Steven this season’s Sarah?

Previously on The Biggest Loser, Red Team had to eat takeaway for dinner while Blue got an intense workout with The Commando!
Temptation was darts and balloons and way too many calories.

Tonight, “The Walk gets serious” and one team’s journey will never be the same again!
And in America? Well, maybe we’ll finally find out if Steven is going to go home.
And maybe we won’t. Again.

Want to find out all that and more?

Short interview with Biggest Loser Sam in SMH

There’s a short interview with Sam in today’s Sydney Morning Herald where he talks a little about how he got to be so big and what has spurred him to get on the show this season.

Sam is 19 and weighs 154 kilograms, a problem he puts down to two things: fast food and the university lifestyle.

I assume “university lifestyle” is university speak for “beer”. Maybe one of my university friends could confirm that for me?

The problem with him claiming that as his problem is that at 19 he’s probably only been in university 2 years at most. So either he has really piled it on while at uni, or he was actually a porker during high school as well. It’s doubtful his university lifestyle has been helpful in this regard, but I think he’s avoiding a bit of responsibility there.

Also, confirming an earlier rumour I posted, Sam does in fact do a sport related course at university:

I do a sports management course, which is pretty ironic. I was the only guy my size and I could hear people say it. I hope that after I lose weight and go back to uni I will have a better time.

This makes it much more obvious why he might have been having a hard time at uni. Even if he’s not planning on being an actual athlete, it’s hard to take someone seriously in such a field when they’re obviously so inept at the field itself.

I guess this makes Sam another contestant likely to finish the show and go into the training business themself. Let’s just hope he gets his own weight under control before trying to charge others, unlike some ex-contestants!

Biggest Loser Season 3 Ad – Sam

Yet another ad for the third season of The Biggest Loser Australia, this one another contestant themed spot.

This ad features Sam.

There’s been a bit of conjecture on the official forums over this ad with some people being a little dubious over Sam’s claim that he has been teased at university due to his size. People are saying that such things just don’t happen at university.

I think people are conveniently forgetting that a lot of university students are only just out of high school. And they don’t magically turn into adults in the intervening months. So it certainly is possible that people are harassing Sam over his, let’s be honest, grossly obese body.

But is that what is actually happening? Or does he have other personality faults in play that are a bigger factor? It’s impossible to know just yet.

The rest of the ad is pretty run of the mill – he wants the confidence to meet new people, he’s still young and wants a better quality of life, etc.

Both trainers would seem to have something to offer Sam. Shannan would help his self confidence, and his love of boxing training would probably help Sam’s ability to deal with any teasing, as he’d have the physical confidence to stand up to people if necessary.

But I think Michelle will probably be the better option – the attention of an attractive female is always a nice boost to someone’s self esteem.

Even if they are being paid for their time.

Recap #8 – Monday 12th Feb. – First elimination, backstab redux.

Is Alex doomed? Will Sam return? Will Jillian punch Courtney in his smug obnoxious face?

Read on to find out! (Warning: A bit more foul language than usual!)
