TBL 11×06 – Can Team Blue win anything, ever, or are they DOOMED?
Previously on The Biggest Loser Transformed… a day without an elimination! Dr Andrew Rochford revealed how much disgusting fat the contestants were all carrying around without mentioning it’s perfectly normal to have some fat in your body.
Sarah Wilson talked a bunch of crap about sugar and then had the contestants cook some healthy-ish alternatives to everyone’s favourite chocolate biscuit thing, Wagon Wheels!
Tonight it’s another big team challenge, with an elimination looming at the end.
Back at Camp Biggest Loser Team Orange has exclusive use of all the gym equipment, so Team Blue are at a big disadvantage, Orange thinks. Easy to get your heart rate up in the gym, harder outside it.
Team Blue are… standing around talking about what they could do, instead of doing it! They’ve all recognised that a lack of equipment will be a problem when they get home as well, so they’re coming up with ideas like shadow boxing, pushups and running laps of their tennis court. There’s also a running track up and over a hill.
Two of the girls are having a chat while one hops from one foot to the other as the other girl slaps her arms, sort of like boxing practice only… not very high intensity.
Brett’s struggling a bit. He prefers getting into the gym and smashing it out. He’s doing some shadowboxing and pushups like he used to do in the days he was a boxer. Gotta work harder than that mate!
We’re not with them training very long tonight as right afterwards they’re off for a walk to the physical challenge of the week. Team Orange is hoping to make it three straight.
Libby, Shannan and Fiona are waiting to greet them and they can also see a bunch of chains, weights and some platforms out on the water. They’re at Kuring-gai National Park, which is gorgeous everyone agrees.
The winning team today will be safe from elimination while the losing team will have to go to The Arena and vote one of their members out. Don’t lose, Blue!
Simon tells Fiona the Orange Team is not unnbeatable, they just work well together as a team.
Matt doesn’t think the lack of equipment is hurting them at all, they’re still burning their target calories each session. They’re doing a big variety of exercises, about the only thing they’re not doing is dancing. Shannan says that’s really good to hear, the body doesn’t care how you’re getting your activity in, it’s just the stimulus.
Simmo’s reminded he has the power for the week, can sit out an Orange Team member from the weekly challenge or the weigh-in. And he’s not going to use it in the weekly challenge for some dumb reason. Libby’s chuffed, she would have sat Jake or Simon out to give them an advantage in the challenge.
Fiona’s baffled as well and asks him if he’s sure he doesn’t want to use it, it’s an elimination challenge. If you lose, one of you is going home.
This better not come back to bite them!
Today’s challenge will be in three stages. In the first stage three members of each team will be tethered to a chain. They’ll have to duck and weave under each other to untangle the chains and release a pole. Once the pole is released a stack of weights can be shifted, one at a time, to the pontoon on the water. All the weights must be on the pontoon before you can move on. Once all the weight is aboard six team members will wade out to lift and carry the pontoon back to sure. First team back will win, making them safe from the elimination.
Definitely should’ve sat an Orange boy out!
Team Blue are discussing who should be on the chains. Matt put his hand up to do a chain but Brett steps in and decides himself, Lynton and Simmo will do the chains. Anna tells us she doesn’t think Brett’s much of a team player.
Team Orange is trying to decide whether strength or agility will be more important, eventually settling on Steph, Sophia and Jake. Not Simon? Interesting.
Shannan says it’s a fantastic test of efficiency. It’s not about who’s the strongest or fastest, you’ve just got to be neat and work together with your team mates.
Efficiency? Not Blue’s strong point. They’re struggling early, but they do have three boys carrying the heavy chains which may pay off in the long run?
Orange is well organised, working in harmony Shannan says. They’re not as strong as Team Blue but working together is working a lot better for them.
And unsurprisingly Team Orange is first to get their chains untangled and off and running with their first weight. Simon’s first into the water and wading toward the pontoon, but Matt’s not too far behind by the time he reaches the pontoon. Still a lot of distance to make up, and Blue has to run more than once each.
Amy’s expressing some more doubts about Simmo’s plan not to sit out an Orange, she knows they’re going to be exhausted near the end.
Nikki’s not too bothered by the overall challenge, just worried she might be too short to wade through the water to the ponton. Short arse!
Lisa-Faye (not a real name!) is struggling at the end of her run, so much so that she’s got her eyes closed for the last few metres and accidentally runs towards Blue’s pile of weights instead of Orange. Oops! Tag Nikki!
Nikki might be short but she’s charging hard. She used to be scared of the water but she tackled that with the kayaking challenge. Being one of the smaller contestants might also be an advantage here since there’s less resistance against the water.
Team Orange is still in the lead during Simmo’s run. He was hoping to make up some of the lead Orange has, but Luke was much stronger in the run. Steph’s next for Orange though and after the chain jumping she’s already a bit knackered, so when she gets into the water she feels like she’s walking through quicksand. She nearly dropped the weight, it was so hard. After putting her weight into the pontoon she decides to try and swim back to shore instead of walk.
That might seem wise if you’re gasping for breath and tired, but even the fastest swimmers in the world barely go faster than a brisk walk. If the water is shallow enough you’re always better walking, reduces chances of pushback, gives you something more solid to push against, etc.
Brett’s gaining on her as they approach the shore. It’s a lot closer now than it has been since the start of the challenge!
Lynton’s next into the water and he’s hoping this is their chance to make up some time. They don’t. Lynton looks fast to start with but clearly slowed down a lot in the water.
They’re trying to edit it to make it look closer but any time you can see both teams at once it’s more apparent Team Orange is definitely still in the lead.
And Blue’s got to pick all six of their team while Orange can sit two out of the final carry phase.
Team Orange have tagged in for the final team and their six head out to the pontoon while Matt is still returning to shore, much less his team. Partway up the beach Matt falls over and starts rolling on the ground. Get up! Keep going!
Heading back out to the pontoon Team Blue seems to have left Brett back on the beach, only five of them heading out while Orange still has all six.
Then, suddenly, Blue has six out at the pontoon. Even though Brett was clearly back on the beach before. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Orange is struggling, but managing to make steady progress back to shore. They’re working well together as usual.
Blue’s a mess. They’ve got two girls at the front, with two boys in the middle and back. Terrible setup, so they try and change it mid-march. Doesn’t go too well. Pretty much the story of Blue Team this season, things not going well!
They’re trying to make it look close still, but there’s a lot of closeups of just one team at a time.
As they finally get to the shallower bit of the water they’re tipping the pontoon badly, putting a lot of weight on Matt, who just straight drops it back into the water again.
Team Orange are well out of the water and across the line while it’s clear Blue was still very much in the water as Shannan’s still not even out on the sand. He tells us that his team can’t quit yet, they’ve got to keep going and finish the challenge.
More shots of Orange congratulating each other interspersed with shots of Blue apparently nearly at the end. Except when Blue finally make it it’s really clear Orange is well on the way to drying off and not puffing for breath. Terrible, Blue!
The Blue Team look shattered, Shannan says.
Orange is a good colour for butts like Libby’s, I say. Nice work, cameraman. I’m sure you couldn’t’ve punched in closer to avoid that and just show Brett huffing!
Back at Camp Biggest Loser the Blue Team must be wondering if they can vote Simmo out for making an utter bonehead decision by not sitting an Orange out. Simmo, Brett and Lynton are discussing options. Brett was thinking Amy beforehand, but she smashed it in the challenge today, doing three carry laps and sprinted every one of them. Man of the match, Brett reckons.
They think Anna or Matt are the obvious sacrifices.
Matt, Anna and Amy are having a chat together. They’re talking about who they should vote out, apparently under the impression it will matter.
Brett thinks that, strategically, voting Matt out would make the most sense. He’s cost them two challenges apparently. Assume he’s including the one Lynton also flaked out on. Lynton’s right beside you, dude.
The girls aren’t comfortable with Brett, they don’t think he’s with the team as a whole.
Fiona’s wearing an orange dress again! Where are all the blue ones, Fee?
Six votes in play, Fee still doesn’t mention what happens if there’s a tie!
Simmo’s asked if he questions his decision not to sit an Orange out of the challenge and he does, maybe it would have made the teams a bit more even. No shit, Sherlock!
Matt thinks he went well in the challenge today, says he gave it 110%, Simmo has a laughing look on his face, not sure he believes Matt. Matt had a breakthrough this week during boxing training with Shannan, so he’s feeling pretty good about the challenge.
But the team is missing the team spirit. They’re missing the glue for their team that Team Orange has clearly got. Matt’s hoping, if he’s still around, to start getting the team together.
Fee asks Brett if he thinks Matt’s equipped to be the leader, Brett says he’s happy for Matt to have a go, but Matt interrupts and says he’s not putting his hand up to be the leader, just to try help things along. He thinks others on the team may be better suited.
Anna thinks Simmo would make a good leader, he works hard, puts in the effort in challenges and he’s a good bloke. So who’s not chipping in? Brett, Anna thinks.
Stab each other some more!
Anna says she doesn’t feel like Brett’s done as much training and other duties as the rest of them. Brett says everyone’s entitled to their opinion. If he’s not training he’ll go back to his room and read a book, he does everything that’s asked of him.
Fee asks him if he’s being a team player and Brett claims to have been training with everyone, there’s only so much they can do together, it’s not like they can go out for ice cream. You could if you worked out more!
Brett says he doesn’t get involved in the dramas in the house, Anna says it’s not about getting involved in drama, it’s about helping each other. Brett says he hasn’t done a training session alone, he’s done them all with Lynton, Simmo, Matt’s done some. Anna still thinks he’s not being a team player.
Simmo thinks the glue that’s missing is the emotional mindset to come together as a family and help each other. Have a bit more love for each other. Some of them have it, but they’ve got to come together as a five person group going forward.
Fee asks if there’s people who’re tight in the team and Brett says Matt and Anna are tight, Lynton, Simmo and himself are tight, Amy’s tight with Simmo. Anna says she feels tight with Simmo and Simmo agrees. Matt says he thought he and Brett were tight and Brett says yeah! Very unconvincingly.
Lots of pairs and trios, Fee notes. It’s not going to help them going forward.
Time to vote!
Amy’s first to vote and she’s picked someone because she had to, she’s not even sure how she came to the decision. She’s voted for… an ad break!
Amy voted for Matt, which seems to have surprised Matt. Not sure why!
Simmo admires the person he’s voted for, they’ve been inspirational since the start of the competition. It’s not easy to vote for someone, but he’s voted for… Anna. Awkward, she’s sitting right next to him. And they’re tight!
Anna looks gutted. Poor Anna.
Anna has picked someone who hasn’t been playing as a team. She’s picked Brett. Going to be awkward if Anna and Brett both stay!
Anna’s crying now. She’s really disappointed, she hopes her name won’t come up again but she’s going to be even more disappointed very soon!
Anna feels like she’s made progress, but only a little bit, she really needs to stay there. Fiona reminds everyone that she didn’t win The Biggest Loser either, so it doesn’t matter who goes home. You can do it after going home, you can make the changes and it will be okay. Fee’s such a softie!
Matt’s voted for someone who’s been getting stronger over the past week and he sees this person as a potential threat. He’s voted for Amy. AMY. OF ALL PEOPLE. What are you even doing mate.
Four votes in and four people have one vote each. Fee says it seems indicative of the divisions in the team.
Only two votes left, Brett and Lynton. So Brett’s probably safe, Lynton too. But who knows, Blue’s a shambles.
Brett’s voted for someone he thinks can survive when they get home, so he’s voted for Anna.
That’s two votes for Anna. If Lynton has also voted for her, she’s done. If he’s voted for one of the other people with one vote it will be a tie.
And Fee finally reveals that in the event of a tie, everyone has to vote again. PLEASE BE A TIE, IT’LL BE HILARIOUS!
Lynton’s voted for the person with the most mental strength and willpower he’s ever seen. They’re there for the transformation and this person will have the most success at home. He’s also voted for Anna.
Bye Anna! Fee says she’s very sorry but really the people who voted for her should feel sorry. Should be a fun week ahead!
Anna says she’s worked hard for her team and to keep them living with Orange in harmony. But oh well, on ya bike!
Shannan’s been a great motivator for Anna and she’s realised she can do anything. She wants to be fit again and she’ll be back as a healthy, happy Anna at finale.
Fiona hopes the team can bounce back from this. They’ve got to start working as a team or they’ll end up back in the elimination room again before long.
Tomorrow night, can Blue work together even in training? Probably not, but Shannan’s going to try!
Also, another challenge in The Arena. The winners will get a 2kg advantage at the impending weigh in, but Orange tend to smash Blue in everything. Can they finally turn the tables? Stay tuned!
