TBL 11×03 – Headshrinking, artistry and an elimination. Yes, already!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Transformed the contestants set their benchmark fitness levels and had their very first cooking lesson cum cooking challenge.

Tonight, breakdowns and breakthroughs. Many tears in the gym, many tears with the new psychologist. And then an elimination challenge, a version of the old Stacks On, where contestants have to hold a loaded bar on their shoulders. Presumably the last one still holding their bar will win, but will the first to drop be out?

Shannan’s team turns up for training, they’re all still buzzing from the win at the cooking challenge yesterday. They inform Shannan they’ve got an advantage in the elimination challenge and Shannan is surprised there’s one already, but nevermind that. Did everyone train this morning? Yes! Except Jenny, who wasn’t feeling well that morning. Nevermind that either, Shannan’s not ready to let any of them go yet. Time to introduce some competition to… the competition. Shannan’s going to set some goals for each of them, if they achieve the goal they pass, if they don’t they fail.

Jenny’s struggling in the early parts of training so she’s first to be pulled aside by Shannan for a chat, he can see something’s wrong. She’s an ambo and she’s suffered from PTSD in the past, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Ambos see things normal people don’t see, and they see it on a daily basis she says. She tells us it’s a very rewarding job and she wouldn’t want to do any other one, but it takes it’s toll. Her husband died two years ago. Her bloke was pretty fit, riding from the south of England to the north of Scotland. He got a bit tired at times doing it and two months later he was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. So that was a fair effort!

Just before her husband died a bunch of white cockatoos landed outside and after he died they all left. The Kooris in her area say the white cockatoos escort the soul to the next world. This morning she found a random white feather and she felt like that was her husband telling her to get on with it.

Jenny came into the session feeling flat but after the workout she’s feeling a lot better. Shannan’s calling her “Nanny” all the time. He’s a weird lad.

Team Orange has a mostly cardio workout today. She’s trying to teach her team to leave their life stuff at the front door of the gym and just work hard. Jake says the team really digs Libby’s energy, it brings everyone’s mood up.

Libby tells us Jake is doing it a bit tough, because he’s scared by his diabetes and thinking he can’t push too hard. He’s used to listening to his body, but Libby’s pushing him to keep going. He’s going to get fitter and find his blood sugar easier to manage, Libby tells us.

Nikki’s gone a bit quiet during training, she’s having an attack of the sads already, missing her daughter. She forgets what it’s like to cuddle her. After a couple of days? Get over it! More exercise!

Libby asks her to say she doesn’t give up anymore, she won’t let herself give up anymore, she won’t give up. Back to training!

After training there’s a beautiful lounge room area with Fiona waiting for them. She’s there to tell them it’s not just about changing their bodies but also their minds. Please welcome Glenn MacKintosh!

Glenn is hoping that he can help them achieve the change in mindset that will let them maintain their healthier lifestyle in the long term.

Glenn asks if anyone loves their body. Nobody does, and Glenn says that’s actually quite normal. People twice their size would give the same answer, as would people half their size. Do they feel like their body image holds them back in their love lives? Basically everyone!

Steph, why are you here? Is it because you’re fat? Yes.

Okay, Glenn did not ask that. Steph says she’s been engaged for just over a year but can’t fit into the dress she wants and she’s not happy with the way she looks. 4 years ago, when she met Jimmy, she looked quite different. Which is to say, she looked smoking hot!

She was going to get married in January, but they put it off because she didn’t feel confident enough at the time. So Glenn’ll be using her as their first guinea pig for an exercise.

Glenn’s got a courtroom artist in and he’s going to draw Steph as she describes herself, the artist won’t be able to see her. Where are you going with this, Glenn?

Steph says she has long hair, round face, no definition to her neck, broad shoulders, “like a big brick”. Hangover belly? Really, really large. Chunky, especially side on. Fat arms, large thighs and calves. From hips to shoulders, “like a bowling ball”. Vincent the artist has got enough now, Steph can leave the room for a moment while the others describe how they see her to the artist.

Oval face, nice smile, goodly proportioned nose, well proportioned body, solid arms, she has got a bit of a tummy but nothing like how she described it.

Glenn explains to Steph what they did while she was out of the room. First we’ll see the artist impression based on her own description.

It’s… actually pretty accurate, especially since the artist couldn’t even see her. Everyone’s surprised she thinks it’s accurate.

The group-described one has her looking thinner than she really is. Everyone’s really surprised Steph doesn’t think the group-described one is accurate. Nikki’s gotten to know her and says when she first saw Steph she thought she was stunning.

Steph’s hoping this is the start of her change. Glenn says you’ve got to stop judging yourself, if judging yourself isn’t helping then distance yourself from it.

OKAY! But now it’s time for a challenge!

Fiona, Shannan and Libby are waiting for all the contestants. They’re on the South Coast of Sydney today, looking a bit windswept on a cliff overlooking the surf. Everyone’s feeling the pressure today.

The team that wins today’s challenge is safe from the elimination. The team that loses will vote one member out. No weigh in, no nothing, just a straight vote. Oof!

There’s 400kg of weight stacked on a platform, 200kg for each team. The teams will have to decide how much weight each team member carries. They’ll have to hold it on their shoulders for 30 minutes. Whichever team is still holding the most weight at the end of the challenge will win. If you drop your weight, it doesn’t count to the total.

Blue Team won an advantage at the cooking challenge, so what is it? They get a 10kg bonus added to their score! That will definitely come in handy.

Turns out they don’t have to use the full 200kg, so Blue is going for lighter amounts per person to try and keep everyone standing right through to the end.

Team Orange is going for more weight because they’re 10kg behind to begin with. Steph’s being bold and going for 20kg on her bar, while the other girls are going for less.

End result? Orange has gone for 140kg in total, Blue has only 100kg. So if everyone holds their weight, Team Orange wins. If Team Orange start dropping weight it gets closer…

Lynton’s gone for 15kg, but his arms are still knackered from the kayaking so he can’t get them up high enough and the weight is supported more on his neck than his shoulders. Bad choice!

Steph’s surprised by how much 20kg is weighing her down already. She may have made a mistake.

Amy’s got 10kg on her bar and s in a lot of pain. Shannan reminds her they’re 40kg up on Blue so they’ve got to just hang in there. Shannan tries to coax her into realising it’s not that bad. “It’s pretty bad!”

Lynton’s got a wobble on… and he’s dropped his weights. Uhoh, 15kg down. They’re 55kg down now.

Lisa-Faye (not a real name!) has 10kg on her bar as well and Libby’s trying to keep them in the zone. Ten minutes down!

Nikki’s trying to keep everyone on her team motivated, Jake’s not looking like he’s struggling at all… then suddenly BOOM! Down go his 25kg.

Orange is now on 115kg to 85kg on Blue.

Sarah’s feeling a lot of pain, but Shannan tells her she might need to shift a little to keep on top of things.

Matt’s struggling with 15kg on his bar, which is a total of 26kg, how much he’s hoping to lose overall. Shannan could tell he was going to drop it even before he did. His mind gave up before his body did.

Luke drops his! Another 20kg down. Orange is on 95kg and Blue is on 70kg. With Blue’s advantage that makes it really close!

Jenny’s got the lightest load, a mere 5kg but she’s still complaining about it. Until Shannan points out the whales breaching in the water. Team Blue has a better view of it, poor Orange!

Two and a half minutes to go and Team Orange is still just in the lead… but Steph’s wriggling and writhing and not sure she can go on. 30 seconds to go…

Team Orange have done it! Mostly thanks to an epic effort by Steph who took on the challenge of carrying more weight than any of the other girls.

Meanwhile Jenny’s still making excuses for carrying the lightest weight. She’s old! She’s weak! Boohoo!

Team Blue will now have to choose someone to eliminate. Lynton thinks he’s probably doomed since he was the first to drop his weight. Matt also thinks he may have gone out too early. I think either would be a good choice!

Blue is discussing their decision in the gym. Instead of training! Lynton feels responsible because he was the first to drop out, Jenny thinks he shouldn’t feel bad about that.

Lynton tells us he has his dream job, but he may not pass his medical and thus no longer be able to fly anymore. His career in aviation isn’t conducive to establishing a healthy routine, he says, and he can’t remember the last time he worked out. We see him playing video games, which as we all know will make people fat!

Lynton needs to be there, the team tells him. Matt feels like he should volunteer to go, he thinks he could go home and do fine by joining a gym and smashing it for finale. Sarah tells him he’ll just keep getting better from here if he stays.

Jenny’s worried she’ll hold the team back. She’s old and she only carried 5kg in the challenge.

Everyone knew they’d have to do eliminations but it’s a lot harder than they were expecting.

And there’s a new Elimination Room. More of a chamber. Fee calls it The Arena.

Everyone gets one vote. Person with the most votes leaves the competition. What if there’s a draw? FIONA, WHAT IF THERE’S A TIED VOTE?

Jenny says she hasn’t done well mentally and emotionally, but she’s got more strength in her than she thought. Simmo says she’s an amazing woman and Brett says she’s a tough cookie and a credit to herself just for being there.

Lynton feels responsible for leading his team into the elimination room, but he still does want to be there.

Can Matt turn it around or will he keep struggling? He wants to grow up and get stronger.

Fiona asks if anyone put their hand up to go home. Matt and Jenny both put their hands up. Fiona asks Jenny what she thinks Shannan would say if she saw that. Jenny thinks he’d be upset. Does that make her question why she put her hand up, Fiona asks? Yep! Would she see more results if she stayed? Yep!

Jenny’s worried she’ll make progress physically but it’ll come at the cost of mental and emotional stability. Fiona suggests the team and Shannan could help her through that and Jenny’s not so sure.

Matt put his hand up because his physical capabilities are so far behind. Well, yeah Matt. That’s why you’re there! He also thinks everyone else deserves to be there more than him.

Time to vote!

Matt’s voting for someone he’s grown close to, but they’ve expressed a desire to leave early. He asked them if they have the support back home to follow through with it and they said yes. His vote is for… Jenny!

Amy’s vote is for an incredible person, she’s happy she got to spend a week with them. She’s also voted for Jenny. Two down!

Anna’s vote is for someone she’s been worried about… Jenny. Three!

Simmo’s vote is breaking his heart but… He’s voted for Nanna too. That’s four votes. One more to send her home.

Jenny based her vote on who she thought was most capable of continuing on the outside. She’s voted for Amy! Though it probably doesn’t matter.

Sarah’s voted for a kind, caring, bubbly and beautiful person. She’s voted for… Jenny. Bye Jenny already! We barely got to know you!

Jenny’s been eliminated from the competition. Fiona says she’s definitely come leaps and bounds in the short time she’s been there. Jenny’s determined to continue on with her transformation, she’s going to blow them away at finale.

Jenny hopes the friendships will continue after the show, even if she is going home. Jenny feels like this has been a real kickstart for her and she’s very appreciative of Shannan’s efforts at bringing her out of her shell.

Fee tells them eliminations are never easy, the competition is never easy, time to go home, rest up and get ready for the next challenge.

Sunday night! We’re back with the very first weigh in of the competition.

AND ANOTHER ELIMINATION! Crikey!
