TBL 10×33 – Super Iron Man Challenge Time Is Go!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Tony was sent “home” at elimination but then immediately came back with all the other eliminated contestants for the second chance draw!

Fiona is promising an epic Super Challenge to decide which 3 contestants will return to the competition. Should be super fun and Tony will probably win comfortably!

Also tonight a look back at everyone’s audition tapes. Expect tears!

But first it’s time to get back into training for the eliminated contestants. Lots of people talking a big game.

Tiff and Shannan have the contestants out on the sandpit. In the rain. Jodie does not look at all happy! Shannan is trying to perk her up, but she’s remaining a sourpuss. Everyone else is having a grand old time.

This could be their last training session at Camp Biggest Loser. Who wants to get back in, Tiff asks. Everyone but Jodie puts her hand up. She wanted to be there yesterday, but overnight she’s changed her mind. Oh dear.

Mel’s still there with a grin on her face. Much rather see her back!

Shannan’s nightmare has returned, miserable Jodie. Sylvia asks Jodie what’s wrong, they’d like to help her if they can. Jodie doesn’t want to tell them, they’re picking on her being in the sandpit. Shannan says she started out grumping and miserable, but by the end she was getting everything done and having a great time.

So what’s the common denominator, Shannan? Oh, that’s right, ALI’S BACK. No way that’s a fucking coincedence.

Anyway, Shannan’s got work to do. If Jodie wants to walk, so be it, he’s going to train the rest of the contestants with Tiff.

Meanwhile, indoors, the remaining Jofales are training with both Mish and Steve today. They know they’ve got to train hard to ensure they stay ahead of the returning contestants. Moses looks fit, Steve says, and Mish points out Sam looks fit and Ali’s fired up. Kayla wants it bad, too. She’s young and energetic and has made training a priority on the outside.

Mish says the returning contestants want their spots on the show and Tenealle says they can’t have them. Hah!

Shannan and Tiff are training the contestants while Jodie watches from a paddock away. Shannan says he feels like he owes it to himself to try one more time to get her back. If she’s at her worst he needs to be at his best, he doesn’t want to give up on her.

Everyone’s having fun, laughing and smiling, she could be doing that too. She’s the same as them, Shannan tells her. Jodie doesn’t think she is. Jodie hit a big personal milestone in losing 30kg so Shannan hopes she can keep going.

Tiff’s chatting to Terry Pestell about what’s wrong with Jodie? She doesn’t think she can get back in so she doesn’t see the point in even training. Tiff’s very disappointed, as is Terry.

Shannan says to Jodie to just live in the moment, just come back and train for shits and giggles. Jodie’s saying they can’t win, they never win anything, so what’s the point? Shannan says they’re at the point where he can’t be charitable anymore, if she wants to walk she can walk. He’ll go back and train the others who do want to train.

Kayla tells Tiff she deserves her chance to come back, she’s worked hard. Ali wasn’t ready to go home either, the Jofres knocked her out and now she’s back to win it. She says she was there for her family last time but now she’s there for herself.

Moses and Cliff are paired up in training at Tiff’s suggestion. Moses is proving great motivation for Cliff and both are pushing hard in training.

Sam and Tony are training together and, while Tony’s certainly ahead of Sam, it’s not by as much as you might expect. She’s pushing him hard through the running race section of the training.

Shannan wants them to put everything into the Super Challenge. Grind away and keep going when you think you might want to give up. Your biggest competition in a super challenge is yourself, if you think you can’t do it you’re gone.

After an ad break Tiff is inside for a chat with Cliff and Sam. She’s hoping to get Cliff on track, she knows people can be a bit anxious about coming back in. She thinks maybe Cliff doesn’t want to get back into the show as much as Sam does.

Back home Cliff and Sam were getting back to arguing a lot. Sam thinks maybe they were at the brink of breaking up, which is a surprise to Cliff. He doesn’t think she said anything but Sam says he was there when they were arguing. Cliff says he’s not going to argue about it now. Hah!

After training Mel is off to try and convince Jodie she needs to try getting back in. Jodie’s not sure she wants to win, Mel says she doesn’t know if she can win but she has to try. Jodie doesn’t want to be treated like she was on day one. She doesn’t understand why anyone would be enthusiastic about training in the rain in the sandpit. It’s the old journey returning, Mel tells us. Mel reminds Jodie they’d already done a dirty sandpit session before she left. Jodie doesn’t want to be judged, Mel says people will judge them but she’s got to do it anyway.

Mel loves Jodie, she tells us, so she doesn’t want to give up on her. Mel asks her if she wants to drive the karma bus? Jodie doesn’t think she has a chance at winning, Mel says it’ll be more than just fitness being tested. Sure, the others have a good chance, maybe even a better chance, Jodie’s not impressed by their chances. Mel says she’s the only one that can make the changes and Jodie screams she’s already made changes.

Mel wants her to stay and compete and try her best with her, try and get it done. They might not win, maybe all they’ll get is a chance to lose weight, and that’s all they really need to get out of the week. Mel loves Jodie, will she stay? Jodie says she’ll stay and at least see what the challenge is, which Mel says is a yes then, yes? Yes. Chin up!

Go Mel!

Now, time for the audition tape stuff. The Hailwoods are the first to see themselves. They’re all shocked at how big they used to be. Well, the girls certainly are shocked. Cliff just looks a bit sad.

Sam remembers being really unhappy around the time of the auditions. Cliff doesn’t want to go back to the way they were, life will fall apart for them and for their daughter and it won’t be a happy situation.

Cliff tells us he did want to go home at one point, but he’s come around since then. He asks the girls if they can burn the DVD now.

Jofres next. They’re shocked by their appearances as well, but they’ve all lost so much weight. Rob’s surprised by his own size but most amazed by the brothers. Tony tells us he came more for his family but he was in denial, he needed to do it for himself too.

Auvales next. Johnee was wearing a green shirt and he says he’s still got the shirt and it’s like a parachute now. Moses is quite upset at seeing Johnee’s size in the audition tape. Don’t think they auditioned together, may have been different cities?

Moses had tried to lead by example, which the others would see as being critical, but he was trying to help. Rina was living a lie, she says. She should have listened to Moses sooner, when he said she needed to be more active. Moses is hungry to get back into the house now.

Pestells! They’re also shocked by their appearances. It’s easy to think they’ve been the slackers of the competition but when you compare them to their audition bodies it’s amazing how far they’ve come. Jodie was quite unhappy and says it makes her realise she did need to be there. She was letting the negative thoughts get to her in the morning but now she’s going to fight so she’s never the same size again.

Ali says nobody’s going to be in front of her, she’s going to win this. She is, clearly, quite delusional. Unless Tony, Moses and Sam all break their ankles at the start line…

Time for the Super Challenge! Fiona’s at Palm Beach to greet them all. They’re going to fight for a chance to get back into the game. There’s 11 of them and only 3 will be coming back. And because it’s a big reward, the challenge is equally huge.

It’s an iron man race, Fiona announces. Lots of people looking a bit worried now!

Some random old guy was walking past as they were shooting. Not sticking around to watch, I guess?

Anyway, the super challenge will go down thus. First, 1km run on soft sand and up a sand dune. Then a 5km ride on a spinbike. Then a multiple choice quiz question. Get it right, continue on. Get it wrong, go all the way back to the start of the sand and go back up the dune again. Then a 1km paddle in a kayak, followed by a sprint to the finish. You want to be one of the first six to the finish line. Pick a plate of food and the three lowest calorie foods will get their choosers back into the game. So it’s brains, not just pure fitness. Fun!

At the start of the race Tony is off to a very strong start. Not surprising he’s winning, but quite surprising how far ahead he’s already gotten.

Moses is carrying Rina’s shoes. They only make it 50m or so before Rina’s walking already. So Moses gives up on waiting for her and starts trying to catch up to Tony. But he’s still carrying Rina’s shoes! Silly boy.

Ali’s planning to do whatever it takes to get back in. It’s all about doing the best for Tilly. She’s picturing Tilly ahead of her and she just keeps trying to catch her.

Tony’s up to the sand dune first, no surprise there. He says his legs are burning already but he’s not letting it beat him. He’s onto the bike and trying to maintain his lead, because he knows his weak point is still ahead.

Kayla’s trudging up the hill in second place but her mind gets the better of her and she stops for a moment, allowing Moses to catch up and pass her. He’s going well to have caught up but he knows Tony’s a speed demon, he’s hoping he can make up some distance if Tony makes a mistake.

Ali’s in sixth place as they get to the bikes, so she’s still in with a chance, surprisingly. Cliff’s behind and Sylvia’s further behind him. But Cliff’s not going to let Sylvia slack off, he’s encouraging her to keep going as well.

Rina, Mel and Jodie get to the sand dune together. Jodie asks for the escalator but she doesn’t pause, just keeps going up the hill. And even more surprisingly, Jodie’s encouraging Rina to keep going. They’re sticking together so none of them has to come in last by their own.

As they get to the top where the bikes are situated none of the contestants have finished pedalling and so Jodie starts yelling out to them that they’re catching up. Ali tells us it was great to see Jodie still going and having some fun with it. And it is!

Tony’s first off the bikes, of course. He heads off for the question and Sam calls out for him to get it wrong. Cliff says Sam is so funny, but he hopes Tony does get it wrong!

The question is, which food has the most total fat in it? 10 macadamia nuts, 110g fast food cheeseburger, 200g of full fat yoghurt. Tony knows he’s fit enough to do the challenge but he’s worried he won’t be smart enough to get past the questions.

Tony guesses the yoghurt. Which is wrong! Tony’s got to do the run again. Poor bastard!

Moses is next to finish the 5km ride. He’s not done so well with his calorie counting, he tells us, so he’s worried when he sees the question. Also reveals he’s been eating a lot of macadamia nuts so he hopes it’s not them!

Moses also guesses the yoghurt. Silly!

Tony says running back up the sand dune again was one of the toughest things he’s had to do on the show. But now he has a fifty-fifty chance at the question. Ali’s excited to see him run past but she shouldn’t be. Tony guesses macadamia nuts and is, of course, correct! They’re surprisingly fatty!

Terry’s next to the board. He also guesses yoghurt first. It says fat right in the name, he reasons.

Sam’s next to the board and is the first to get it right first time, boosting her straight into second place. Nice work!

Tony’s down to the kayaks but isn’t going very fast, he’s finding. Possibly because he has the paddle around the wrong way…

Ali’s off the bike and off to the question board. She can barely walk but she’s still kicking along. Not clear what place she’s in now but if she gets the question right you’d have to like her chances.

Tony’s struggling in his kayak, he’s not sure what’s going wrong. Seems to be taking in a lot of water. Sam’s not having trouble though.

Anyway, Ali’s up to the question board only just ahead of Kayla. Kayla has to wait while Ali has her shot. Surprisingly Ali gets the answer right and rushes off. In the wrong direction. Without covering the correct answer. She gets going eventually!

Kayla’s confused because she knows she shouldn’t eat cheeseburgers or yoghurt but it might be a trick question. It sort of is and Kayla correctly guesses it’s macadamia nuts as well.

Out on the water Sam is using the “anyone can do anything for 30 seconds” thing. Okay.

Ali’s pretty good on kayaks, apparently. Terry owns boats so she’s quite comfortable and looking at her starting out… yeah, she ain’t lying. She’s powering away and is even catching up to Sam. And then going PAST Sam. That’s crazy! Maybe Ali really does have a chance to get back in?

Meanwhile, Tony’s figured out his problem. He sat in the back of his kayak instead of the front. Once he swaps ends he’s making more progress, but he’s really feeling tired now. As you might imagine, if you’ve been doing it wrong.

Moses is way back in fifth place at this point so Cliff’s relieved he’s still in with a chance. Moses manages to pip Cliff to the Q&A section and gets it right this time. Will Cliff?

Sure did! Cliff’s in 6th place behind Moses now and heading off after him.

Sylvia’s struggling with the question as well. She doesn’t know which one it could be, even though they studied up last night.

Moses tells us that Cliff sounds competitive, but mentally and physically he’s not really prepared for it. Neither of them is doing well with their kayak as both get in too early and sink to the sand, making it really hard to go anywhere.

Moses says… “I’m beached as, bro!” I hope that’s not going to catch on again…

Back with the frontrunners and Tony’s sprinting towards the finish line. Ali’s closed the gap, but Tony’s a hell of a lot faster on foot.

Tony is, of course, first to the finish line. But that’s not all there is to it, now he’s got to stand behind the plate with the lowest number of calories.

The plates are, 50g unsalted peanuts, 100g milk chocolate, 250ml full cream milk, 245g avocado, 200g raw salmon and a “bowl of pasta”, which I gather is a Heinz tin emptied onto the plate but they can’t say it’s Heinz.

Tony’s at a loss as to which to pick. And Ali’s in the final stretch, so he doesn’t have as much time as he might like…

Sunday night, can Tony pick wisely? Who might join him, if he doesn’t stuff it up?

Come back on Sunday, I don’t know yet!
