TBL 10×27 – Row Row Row Your Boat, Push Cliff Down The Stream

Previously on The Biggest Loser there was a major upset in the elimination room as Mel inexplicably chose to send Moses home over Daniel. Nobody is quite sure why, but it is generally agreed this was one of the weirdest decisions ever.

Johnee was later hospitalised with stress related heart troubles, meaning he’s missed out on the week’s Temptation. The power on offer this week is a doozy as the winner will get to send another contestant home. Eliminated on the spot, not a holiday this time.

First up we’ve got to find out whether Cliff or Tony can get to the golden fork first. Will they both reach for it or will Tony refuse to play?

Tony has the greatest advantage in the game, since he gets to go last. He could win by eating just one meal.

The final meal is an ice cream sundae. Worth 743 calories! Tony was hoping for a parmagiana.

Wrists on the edge of the table, good luck!

Cliff grabs at it with one hand while Tony grabs with both and they both touch it simultaneously and commence wrestling over it. Not how it works, guys!

After a reset, Tony gets his hand in just under Cliff’s. They shake hands and then Tony’s got to eat the sundae. Cliff ate over 1100 calories and didn’t win!

Time to find out what you’ve won, Tony. Time to send Cliff home with your power, too. Probably?

Inside the case is an elimination card and a pen. Tony thinks he gets to choose someone at elimination and Fiona says it’s more than that. He gets to write someone’s name on the card tonight and they will be eliminated. Whoever he chooses will leave tonight.

Tony’s very glad he’s won this as he knows Cliff would have sent either Tony himself or one of the other Jofres home.

Back to the house, Tony. Tell everyone what your power is!

Back in the lounge Cliff’s regaling Rob with tales of the BBQ Ribs as Tony comes back in. He tells them Fiona wasn’t lying when she said it’s the biggest prize on offer this season.

As Tony opens the case everyone guesses it’s an extra vote, but that’s not the case he reveals, after a pregnant pause.

Tony says he’s going to be upfront, none of the Jofres will go home. He’s not sure where the alliance stands now, so he’d like to have an individual chat with Tenealle. Mel dropped a big number, so he’d like a chat with her. And a chat with Cliff, of course. Everyone’s a bit nervous as a result, nobody knows what Tony might do.

After an ad break Tony is still weighing his options. He’s not going to chat with the Jofres, even though he might be breaking the alliance for them.

He’s having a chat with Tenealle first. Tenealle wonders what Tony meant by the alliance being a bit shaky now it’s down to the latter stages. Tenealle’s not feeling very reassured, especially with Johnee being in hospital.

Tony asks Tenealle two questions – why does she still need to be there and what can she do to help him and his family stay longer. Tenealle points out they could have voted him out before, but they didn’t even consider it. Johnee just really needs to still be there. She tells Tony that if he is going to send one of them home, please make it her ahead of Johnee. Aww. She wants a baby so bad, huh?

Now it’s time for a chat with Mel. Hard decision, but it is a game. It’s a weightloss competition, Mel says, and she was the biggest loser. But she also saved Daniel at the last elimination. Mel’s asked the same questions as Tenealle. Mel still needs to be there to get healthier and she’s already helped his family, saving Daniel last night. She wants to know what love is!

Tony asks Cliff the two questions next. Cliff says he’s thought about having to do it on the outside, like everyone else. But he’s still 160kg, not even halfway to where he wants to be. His main reason for being there is Soph, his daughter. He doesn’t want to go home before he’s finished. Cliff’s worried she’ll grow up without a father if he doesn’t lose the weight.

And Cliff says all he can offer is the promise not to write down a Jofre name at elimination, should it come down to that again.

Time to announce the decision. Nobody’s sure which way he’ll go. He says his main question was about how they’d help his family and only two of them gave him an answer for that question. Tenealle’s horrified as she realises she didn’t really do that, so she might be eliminated and not even get to say goodbye to Johnee. Then who knows how long until she can see him again.

Oh please, like they wouldn’t let you go visit him before heading home. Don’t be ridiculous.

Anyway, he’s got to pick based on who are the biggest threats… ad breaks, ad breaks are the biggest threats.

The name he has written down is… Cliff. Of course. There was really no doubt. Cliff’s not surprised, he was expecting it.

Rob says he’s been a lot friendlier in the last couple of weeks, he’s made a lot of progress and has grown a lot. He’s sure he can do it on the outside and he hopes to see him again soon. Cliff’s obviously disappointed, but not angry like he would have been before. He recognises it’s a competition and that’s just part of it.

He’s proud of what he’s achieved. He was angry a lot before coming on the show. Tiff’s changed his outlook and he’s on track to be a better, more active Dad. He can continue it on the outside now. And Cliff wants to encourage everyone to do what he’s done, be more active and healthy. He’s going to enjoy coming out on stage at finale, this is the start of his new life.

Poor Tiff is now out of contestants. She’s turned up for training and no Cliff. No Johnee either. Johnee’s still in hospital, they’re running tests.

Where’s Cliff? He in hospital too? No. Temptation version of The Game. Tony won and sent Cliff home. Tiff’s out of the competition now too. She’s devastated. Cliff had made a bunch of progress in the last couple weeks and he didn’t get sent home because of being below the line or anything like that.

She’s also gutted because she was having fun! But the Hailwoods have a lot more energy and they’re going to be showstoppers at finale.

If they get a chance to come back, does Tiff get to come back if one of her contestants makes it back? Hope so! Poor Tiff. She came back for this season and is out too early.

Anyway, the show must go on. Commando Steve has all the contestants for some pre-challenge training. Al and Bec from the Sage Institute are also there to help them train today. Inspire, motivate, encourage, etc.

Mish and Shannan could have done that but I guess they’re all still fighting?

Steve’s got them dragging huge truck tires across the sand. Some things just require hard work and determination and sheer exertion.

Steve’s deliberately put Mel with some of the boys in training to push her out of her comfort zone a bit. They’re commando crawling in unison and Mel’s just about squishing out of her top.

Pablo can see Mel’s struggling so he gets back down with her and encourages her. Not so sure how much he’s helping as he keeps getting in her way!

Steve’s impressed by Mel’s efforts, he’s not seen her train before and she’s obviously been smashing it.

Mel tells us she’s come a long way since the start of the competition and now she’s survived her first session with the Commando. Thumbs up!

Johnee’s back for the challenge! The doctors gave him the all clear for all physical activity so he can compete alongside his wife.

The contestants are all walking through the bush and enjoying the stroll. They finally see some building supplies and Princess Fiona waiting nearby.

Today’s challenge is a raft building contest. Hooray, those always look like such fun and yet generate so much drama!

You can build the raft using only the materials provided. Row your raft 200m down the river and around a buoy, then back again. First one back wins! Fiona tells them the winner will get a 1kg weight advantage at the next weigh in. Really big at this stage of the game!

Fiona says they have to ensure their raft is well put together because the whole thing has to cross the finish line. Also, ten years ago Fiona did a very similar challenge. And she won! (Alongside one of the other contestants, who if I recall correctly had a really sad crush on her.)

Any tips, Fiona? Build it well and paddle strong!

Ready, set, RAFT BUILD GO TIME!

They’ve got to carry all their building materials down to the lake before they can start building.

Tony’s first to get all his materials to the end and then he lays everything out on the ground to try and work out what to do with it. He’s thinking tubes and barrels underneath.

Daniel’s pretty confident as well, but he’s focusing more on the tubes as flotation, perhaps he’s underestimating the power of the barrels? He has a background in construction so he’s reasonably confident.

Tenealle’s not confident at all. She doesn’t even build flatpack furniture herself, she gets her Dad or Johnee to do it. So she’s just going to take it slow and steady and hope that stands her in good stead.

Tony’s not great with knots but Rob’s quite confident with them as he used them a lot as a trucker. But he says the other way is, if you can’t tie knots, tie lots!

Johnee’s a little worried, he weighs more than the other contestants and he might just sink his raft with weight alone.

Daniel’s having a lot of troubles with his rope, he keeps getting it tangled up which costs him time. And time isn’t on his side as Tony’s well on the way to being finished.

There’s a lot of talk about making sure their rafts are sturdy enough to support them but not nearly enough chatter about getting it done quickly.

Tony’s first to drag his raft towards the water. He gets some compliments but he really shouldn’t because he’s got some of his containers just tied loosely to the side of his raft. They need to be underneath something solid, provide buoyancy!

Rob’s not aiming to be first into the water, he’s hoping to get it done right.

Tony knows he won’t be able to fix his raft once it’s in the water, so he’s hoping it’ll hold together.

Daniel’s still confident he can catch up to Tony with a better raft design. It doesn’t look great on land, he says, but he’s hoping it’ll look better on water.

It looks very flimsy and looks to be wanting to fall apart just from being dragged. Can it hold together?

After an ad break Tony’s made it to the first buoy, or just about, as Daniel tries to put his raft in the water. It’s not looking good at first, but once he gets settled into place it floats reasonably well. And so the race is on! They might both be Jofres, but they can’t help but compete.

Daniel’s catching up fast to Tony as his raft is a bit more streamlined and easier to paddle.

Next into the water is Tenealle. Still no Rob? She’s hopeful she can get in there and catch up, but Daniel’s going strong and Tony’s floundering.

But that’s it, time to see how Cliff’s going. He was 191kg and 10 weeks later, he’s definitely not!Looks a lot slimmer and healthier. His relationship with Sam has also improved and they’ve been working out together.

Watching his original weigh in video is a shock to him, he feels like it was years ago. He was a 7XL before coming on the show and is down to a 3XL. He’s still overweight, but he is also quite tall so it’s not so surprising.

And he’s become a much better role model for his daughter and his daughter is enjoying the healthy food.

Next week on The Biggest Loser it’s makeover time at last! And in a break from tradition it won’t just be the remaining contestants getting a makeover, but all the others as well. Including a newly blonde Jodie. A newly blonde and getting proposed to Jodie. Awww!
