TBL 10×23 – Johnee versus Jodie in the Elimination Room of DOOM

Previously on The Biggest Loser: Families we nearly saw Cliff stage an upset and win the $20,000 at the weigh in, but it was not to be as Tony streaked from behind to claim the prize.

Tonight two of the biggest remaining contestants, Johnee and Jodie, will face elimination. Johnee is from the Auvale family, who’ve had a strong alliance with the Jofres, giving them control over five votes. Jodie is from the Pestells and can probably count on her sister not to vote for her, and maybe Cliff. It’s not hard to see why Jodie’s probably out the door tonight.

Unless the Jofres finally go with strategy over alliance. It’s really down to them, as it has been so often this season.

We’ll also find out what’s happened to Moses. One might expect he’d dehydrated himself too much for the weigh in or something similar but for the fact he didn’t lose a huge amount this week as he was trying to deliberately be below Johnee. Maybe the stress of Johnee going under the line has brought something more serious to the fore?

The weekly Game will also start tonight and it looks to be some kind of trivia mixed with an endurance event. Mixed with drama, because it’s Biggest Loser!

As the episode begins we’re treated again to the sight of Moses being wheeled out and into an ambulance. He’s got an oxygen mask on and Johnee says he looks like he’s in a lot of pain. His heart rate seemed to be 60, can that happen if he’s had a heart attack?

Anyway, time to discuss the elimination. The Jofres are wondering if they should stick to the alliance or if it’s time to break. Jodie’s gone to plead with them, mostly because she worries Mel will be lost without her. She thinks Mel will continue helping everyone else to her own detriment.

The Jofres all agree to give it serious thought. Jodie doesn’t seem convinced but Rob tells us it’s the first time he’s heard Jodie talk from her heart.

Elimination room time! Fiona says that Moses isn’t there as he’s been taken to hospital as a precaution. After fainting in his bedroom after the weigh in. FAINTING? Okay.

Because Moses isn’t there Tenealle will get to cast two votes. Safe bet neither black team member would vote for Johnee so that seems fair enough.

As there’s the possibility of a hung vote the person with the lowest weightloss percentage will be sent home if that happens. And thanks to the 1kg penalty, that will be Jodie instead of Johnee.

Jodie really wants to stay, and she doesn’t want Mel to be by herself. Mel says Jodie means everything to her, she’s her sister. Tears tears tears. Get on with the voting!

Johnee’s not even thinking about the elimination, he says, he’s thinking about his brother. He can relate to Jodie and Mel being siblings. Because he’s also a sibling. How poignant!

Time to vote!

Tenealle’s voting for two. She believes both people are strong, both can take out the competition. But she’s voting with her heart in choosing Jodie. And of course Moses couldn’t vote for his brother! So that’s two so far for Jodie.

Mel’s not voted for her sister, of course. She’s voted for Johnee.

Cliff says he’s been training with Jodie, seen a whole new side of her, it’s been a really good week. But he promised Moses he’d never write Johnee’s name down, and he’s going to keep that promise. He’s voted for Jodie, surprisingly!

Rob’s the first of the Jofres to vote. He thought it’d be really easy, get rid of Jodie. But he had a chat with her before coming to the elimination room and she said she needed to be there for Mel and she needed to be there for herself as well.

Ad break! Gahhh!

After the break we’re back with Rob telling us he’d had a chat to Jodie and it opened his eyes and stuff. A lot of things are conflicting in his head, but the one thing he’s sure of – Moses is just as much their brother as he is Johnee’s. So he’s sorry, but he’s sending Jodie home. Awww!

That’s enough votes for Jodie to be sent home. She’s shattered, she wanted to be the Biggest Loser of 2015 and now that won’t happen. It still might, there’s always the comeback! She’s determined to go home and be the biggest loser in her own life, get to her goals on her own. Just don’t go near Ali!

Fiona says Jodie’s been a strong competitor, always spoke her mind and stood up for what she believed in. See you at finale!

Jodie says the main thing she’s learned is she doesn’t have to put on a front all the time, she can just be herself. Shannan taught her she doesn’t have to hide, she can open up to people. She’ll never be 150kg again.

Jodie gets lots of hugs from everyone but the biggest from Mel of course. Awww!

Next day, the trainers arrive to see who left. Shannan was pretty sure it’d be Jodie gone, so he’s not that surprised really.

The trainers get the bad news about Moses collapsing as well. He’s still in hospital and they’ve not heard anything yet.

Mish asks Mel how she’s going and Mel says she’s alright. Mish asks again and Mel says it’s just the way it is. Mish asks her how she’s going to go on her own, is it the first time she’s been on her own? Mel says she’ll just have to do it. Mish thinks we’ll see a much stronger Mel on her own, kick some butt. Mel’s feeling a bit defeated right now, Shannan asks her if she’s scared but doesn’t wait for an answer he just gets up, hugs her and tells her she can do it.

Tony says it’s a competition and all that, but outside of it they’re all friends and if she needs help they’ve got her back. Awww!

Shannan thinks we’ve not seen the best of Mel yet, she’s been the baby of the Pestell family and now she’s going to learn to stand on her own.

Time to train!

Commando Steve tells his two remaining contestants that this is life, things happen, what they can do is make sure they’re above the yellow line this week.

Johnee’s struggling to get his mind on exercising, he’s very scared Moses won’t be coming back. Moses has always supported him. As we see him start on the rowing machine Moses wanders into the gym behind him.

After an ad break Moses walks slowly in, he’s still got a bandaid at his elbow and the hospital tag around his wrist. So what’s he got? He’s got an inflammation of the heart. Heart disease runs in their family, Johnee says. So it’s preeetty serious.

Moses wanted to leave the hospital last night but he actually collapsed on the way out the door. So they kept him in and ran some more tests in the morning. It might be bad enough that he’ll have to leave the competition. Moses is back at Camp for now but he can’t actually do any exercise of any kind until he gets the all clear.

Time for Shannan and Mel to train on their lonesome. Just them left. Poor Shannan!

Shannan says it’s been so long since Mel’s had to think for herself, she can’t even remember what fun is, so Shannan’s going to remind her today. Mel tells us she hadn’t been going out when she was back home, she’d just stay home and eat.

So what’d she do back when she was a teenager, what did she do for fun then? She used to play netball, until she got too heavy to keep up with everyone. So Shannan’s going to play some one on one with her. It’s a basketball net, not netball. But still.

Shannan’s got more speed on the court, of course, but he doesn’t try to manhandle her or steal the ball too much. As it turns out, Mel’s actually a really good shot. Much better than Shannan! Those muscles are all show no go Shannan!

Mel’s having fun, she tells Shannan. Hooray!

Mel wants to travel to England, see the palace. Shannan wonders if they’d let her in and Mel says maybe!

Then they do some light boxing sparring, Mel trying to bump him in the head while Shannan dodges and weaves away… from most of them.

Mel’s realised that Shannan’s more than just her trainer, he’s her friend as well. Shannan tells her it’s time to rebuild her life, see who she really is, not what everyone else wants her to be. It’s just her, on her own, now.

Tiff’s still floating on the way to training. She’s so thrilled by Cliff’s weightloss this week, but now they’ve got to keep it up and have another successful week. She’s working out alongside him for much of it, trotting back and forth on the sandpit. Tiff’s enjoying the change in Cliff. Cliff says he’s happy. Tiff asks why and Cliff says why not! He doesn’t want to be a miserable bastard, he feels like being positive and happy is the way to move on and kick everyone’s arse.

Cliff had only just lost his Dad before coming to the show and it was tough dealing with that in a competitive environment. He’s come to a better place when it comes to his father’s death, it’s not something you want to accept but it’s happened. Tiff says he would have seen Cliff on the scales yesterday and Cliff thinks he would have been proud.

Now Tiff wants Cliff to start talking to the ghost of his Dad, any time he’s feeling like he can’t go on. Ooookay.

Rob’s worried about the Auvales, they’re carrying injuries and that puts them in a tough spot. He sits the nephews down for a chat about whether it’s time to break the alliance. Johnee’s got two injured achilles and Moses might be out of the game entirely. Rob’s suggesting maybe it might be time to shake hands, end the alliance and maybe support Cliff? Interesting chat, we don’t hear what’s going to happen though.

Time for The Game! Moses won’t be competing as he still requires rest. This challenge will require brains, brawn and the help of their trainers for the very first time.

They each get an olympic weightlifting bar, which weighs 20kg all by itself. Each bar has two barrels, one attached to each side. The barrels start empty, but won’t stay that way. One at a time Fiona will ask them a quiz question. Get it right and you can choose to load someone up with 10kg of water. 5 litres on each side. Heavy!

Mel’s asked if she’s going to bring the Pestell Power to this and Mel says she’ll have to, she’s the only one left!

At stake is another mystery power of some kind, in a case as usual.

Everyone wants to win, of course.

First question, to Rob. One cup of sugar contains how many calories? 840, 1120, 920? 920, Rob got it wrong.

Cliff, true or false. 100g of cooked lean chicken has more protein than 100g of smoked salmon. True, Cliff gets it wrong!

Daniel, how many calories in one medium apple? 100, 70, 30? 70 and Daniel got it right! Who’s he going to target? Much nodding back and forth betwen the Jofres, who’s it going to be? Cliff, of course. He’s a big threat. Cliff tells us he’s the strongest one there. Not sure I’m convinced. Cliff’s running his mouth too, asks the trainers if they’ve even put the water in yet. But he already looks uncomfortable so not sure how long he’ll stick around.

Pablo! Which is the best source of vitamin E? Beans, almonds or broccoli? Almonds, correct. Give some more water to Cliff. Cliff asks if someone can scratch his forehead for him, he says they can just use a bucket but Tiff steps in and scratches for him. Hah!

Mel, which of these Aussie favourites contains the most fat? Lamington, meat pie or a schooner of beer? Meat pie, of course! Mel got it right. She piles some on Johnee. Steve and Mish are working together while Shannan and Tiff are the other pairing.

Tenealle, which fruit contains the most sugar? Pear, banana or pineapple? Banana! Tenealle got it wrong.

Johnee, which pasta sauce has more calories? Pesto, marinara, bolognese. Pesto, correct! Johnee goes for Cliff, after a second of thinking. Cliff laughs. Mel feels a bit sorry for Cliff as she’s on her own, just like him.

Cliff’s got 30kg of water in his barrels now.

Rob, which of these cheeses is lowest in fat? Feta, ricotta, cottage cheese? Cottage cheese, correct! More for Cliff. Mel’s hoping he can hang in there so she doesn’t get targeted too soon.

Tony, which is the best source of omega-3 fatty acids? Corn oil, chicken or sardines? Sardines, correct! Cliff! Cliff tells us his neck and shoulders are cramping up. Shannan and Tiff are pretty sure he’ll be out soon and yep, Cliff has to throw the weight off his shoulders, he’s done.

Johnee, what snack has the most calories? 20g crinkle cut chips, 375ml can of cola or a banana? Cola, of course! Cliff calls out that he’s out, remember. Bwahaha. Johnee’s returning the favour anyway, giving some weight to Mel.

Mel’s still hanging strong, but Tenealle’s already bailing out. Doesn’t even try answering her question even though it’s her turn. Dumb move!

Rob, which 3 letters describe the relationship between body weight and body size? BMI or two others that are wrong. Rob gets it right and loads up Mel.

Mel, 100g of turkey mince has more fat in it than 100g of chicken mince? True or false? True, well done Mel! Mel loads up Rob for the first time.

Pablo, a 650g loaf of white sandwich bread contains how many calories? 1100, 1350, 1600? 1600, well done Pablo. Pablo’s loading up Mel too.

And now Rob’s out, he’s bailed out because they’ve got three strong members left. Why are they all so dumb? You stay in as long as possible so you can load people up and make them wait longer.

Tony, which nutrient is the most importnt for building and repairing cells in your body? Carbohydrates, proteins or vitamins? Proteins, of course. Who’s he going to load up, is it Mel? It’s going to be Mel, isn’t it… no, he picks Daniel. What the what?

Tony says they’d told Mel they support her that morning so enough was enough, Daniel’s taking one for Mel.

Daniel, which option has the lowest calories? 100g of sweet potato chips, 100g of potato wedges, 100g of boiled white rice. Sweet potato chips, correct! He lumps 10kg on Tony. Steve dumps quite a bit of water not in his barrel, bit shady.

But suddenly Mel’s been forgotten about. Johnee loads up Pablo on his turn, then Mel is asked which has the least calories. 100g of lemons, oranges or grapefruits. Lemon, correct, load some up on Johnee for giving the penalty to Jodie that sent her home.

Johnee’s just hoping to stay in longer than Mel, that’s all that is keeping him going he tells us.

Now time for a catchup with Jodie. Seven weeks later and… I guess she’s lost some weight. And seems to have a nicer haircut. She’s working out with Ali and her Dad. Her Dad’s looking much slimmer!

Jodie says before coming on the show vegetables didn’t really exist for her. Now her diet is vegetables and fish. And her relationship with her partner has improved, they go out and do things with each other now.

Then it’s time to see the weigh in video and Jodie’s in tears. She’s not that person anymore. She’s going to be a sexy bride, though Anthony’s not proposed yet.

She was a size 26 before coming on the show and is now a size 20.

Tomorrow night, who’s going to win the “bombshell” prize? Will Moses be forced out of the competition with a dicky ticker? Who is Shannan’s very special guest? Is it the guy who got nommed by a shark? No, it’s a quadruplegic. Crushed vertebrae, somehow.

And on Sunday night one person will face the scales… ALONE! They all face the scales alone, Mr Voiceover Man. You’re so silly.
