TBL 10×22 – “I’m getting tired just trying to get you off.” (Weigh In Recap)
Previously on The Biggest Loser the competition went to singles at last. Technically they are now all competing as individuals but realistically they’re still families and the friendships and alliances that have formed will continue. Which is to say the Jofres will continue to dominate the competition, probably.
At the singles announcement Shannan, Commando Steve and Michelle got into a bit of a fight over the alliance between the Jofre and Auvale families. Somehow that ended with Commando Steve thrashing Cliff in training, which seems like it might finally have switched the light on in Cliff’s head?
Tonight, we find out if the Jofres won the weekly challenge again. They probably did. Then it’ll be time for a weigh in, the first as singles. Which two contestants will be the first to face elimination on their efforts alone.
We left the challenge with Jodie tipping off the blocks the contestants were balancing on out on a dam lake. This sent a bunch more contestants toppling over in something of a cascade failure, one overweight person overbalancing and tipping off which unbalances the next, who unbalances the next…
Did anybody stay on the pontoons? Let’s find out! First, some more replayed footage. Including Johnee’s declaration, “I’m getting tired just trying to get you off.”
Mel’s already gone by the time Jodie dives off.
And in the end, who’s left standing? Just Cliff! And he’s ecstatic, does a huge bomb off the pontoon and swims back to shore.
Johnee’s filthy, he tells us he didn’t want anyone to win in the way Cliff did. Cliff’s telling us Jodie and Mel came over to congratulate him right away, the rest not so much. Tony tells us he’s got nothing against Cliff for winning, just thinks the game was a joke.
Cliff’s so happy for the Hailwoods to have won something since the race to the house. He’s not even a Hailwood, really!
Johnee’s carrying on some more to Fiona, says it was a piss poor effort, he won by chance, it wasn’t meant to be a luck game.
Jodie’s still crowing in a side bit, saying it’s a wakeup call for the Jofres and Auvales who think they’re good at everything. They wanted her off and she did go off, but so did they. Hah!
So Cliff’s got a 1kg advantage at the weigh in which has to be a huge improvement to his chances at getting the $20,000. He’s hoping to be the biggest loser both to win the money and to see the look on everyone else’s favour.
Johnee’s still prattling on afterwards, saying it’s a game of luck. Cliff didn’t fall off though, did he? Johnee’s trying to put it as him just being lucky, he’s sure it’s down to Jodie pushing off. If only you hadn’t been jiggling around like an idiot…
Back at Camp Cliff’s chopping up some vegetables in the kitchen to put in containers, I guess for lunches and stuff? Mel and Jodie come in for a chat, they’re all pretty happy with the way things turned out. Jodie tells us it’s the beginning of the fall of the Jovales. Hah! Cliff’s calling them the Jovales, too. Funny.
Jodie’s cackling away about taking out the whole alliance. She’s angry Johnee gave her the 1kg penalty so it’s a bit of sweet revenge for her. Johnee was being very mean, Jodie thinks. He wanted her to jump off, and she did. Jodie was driving the karma bus that day, they all got what they deserved.
They’re just rehashing the same thing over and over. Get to the weigh in already!
Time for training first! Cliff is in with Tiff for training and he explains the 1kg advantage very awkwardly. He is not good at storytimes. Tiffiny is super excited and very proud of Cliff. She says he’s not going to need it, he’ll be the biggest loser anyway. Cliff says it’s just an extra push to train harder.
Tiff’s got some extra motivation today too. Pictures of Sam and his daughter Sophia, plus one of Cliff in his old gridiron days. Cliff’s training for his future, Tiff tells him.
Today, Cliff’s running on the treadmill and Tiff’s expecting excuses and complaints but there’s none of that today, just steely determination and measured breathing. Cliff tells us he’s feeling a lot more positive this week, not letting things hold him back.
Tiff’s very confident Cliff can do this. I am less confident. Because it’s Cliff, come on.
Commando Steve and the Auvales training time. Johnee’s not there though, he’s resting up as he’s hurt his other foot now. Both of his achilles’ are hurt now, he’s in a lot of pain Tenealle says. So he’s got two bung legs, if his arms are fine he can still train, right?
Steve goes to visit Johnee in his bedroom to see how he’s going. Johnee tells us achilles injuries can put people out for six months. Johnee did a lot of training last night and then this morning he couldn’t put any weight on his leg. Steve’s worried that Johnee won’t have done enough training to keep him above the line. But really, on diet alone a big man like Johnee shouldn’t have too much trouble shedding a couple kilos?
Jofre training session! Mish is hoping one of her boys can win the weigh in. Halfway through the training session she gets the three younger boys on the treadmill to do 2km while she gives a letter to Rob. Rob wants to open it later because he knows it’ll be a letter from home. Mish is like NO, DO IT NOW, IT’S OKAY. She knows the cameras are powered by tears!
Rob’s partner is at home pregnant with their second child and in the letter there’s an ultrasound picture of the baby. Or a baby shaped blob. They tell you it’s a baby but they could be making it up.
Rob’s partner is excited to see him again now he’s going to have the energy and be around for a lot longer. Any time he feels down he can just think of them running to him for a big cuddle. Awww! Mish is tearing up a bit too. Softies!
Mish says she doesn’t want to judge what he did in the past but doesn’t this experience make him realise how wrong what he did in the past was. She put it more delicately but that was the gist.
Rob gets hugs from all the nephews. He tells us he feels empowered, has switched up another gear, nothing can stand in his way now.
After an ad break it’s time for Pestell training. They’re out on the sandpit in the pouring rain. Jodie hates the sandpit at the best of times. Shannan’s got a huge grin on his face and a laugh in his voice, as usual. Last time they were there it was a lovely day but Jodie flaked out and quit after eight minutes. Jodie knows that Shannan knows she hates the sandpit, but he wants her to do it anyway.
Shannan wants Jodie to prove she’s opened her mind and can complete the training he sets.
They’re tossing medicine balls over their shoulder and Shannan asks Jodie how the sand feels. Jodie says it’s wet and dirty! But she’s still going!
Then they get to the bit that caused Jodie to quit last time, commando crawling across the sand. Jodie’s doing a four point crawl first, as is Mel. Shannan’s having a great time. Then it’s time to crawl on their bellies and Jodie mutters she hates Shannan and Shannan says whaaaat? Jodie says she can do itttt.
Jodie keeps saying it’s so gross while Shannan’s laughing his arse off. He’s got them doing back wiggles next and he tells us it’s proving the girls can do anything they want, if they just put their mind to it.
Jodie gets some sand in her mouth and tells Shannan, who suggests keeping her mouth closed. Jodie says she’d just washed her hair today too! Shannan says it could do with some exfoliation, exfoliate her head! Jodie starts giggling at that and we get her telling us that she did indeed have fun in training today, just don’t tell Shannan!
Now it’s time for the weigh in. Shannan and Michelle open the doors for the contestants, side by side. Hope that means they’ve patched things up!
Princess Fiona is in EXTREMELY BRIGHT RED tonight. I might need to adjust the colours on my telly, maybe?
Jodie’s got a 1kg weight penalty from Johnee while Cliff’s got a 1kg weight advantage from the “controversial” finish to the week’s challenge.
This is the very first weigh in as singles, meaning family can no longer help or hinder you. Two will fall below the yellow line and face elimination, but it’s not all bad news. The biggest loser of the week will win themselves $20,000!
Jodie’s been pushing hard, both because she wants to win and because she’s got the penalty. She tells us she’s hoping to throw the penalty back in Johnee’s face.
Tony says of course he’d love to win the money, so would everyone. He thinks he’d probably buy a home gym for the family and use the rest on a holiday. Nice!
Pablo’s the first to weigh in, he’s super nervous now he no longer has the other boys to back him up.
Pablo Previous: 129kg
Pablo Now: 124.4kg
Pablo Loss: 4.6kg
Pablo Percentage: 3.57%
Strong start to the weigh in and Pablo’s chuffed. Pablo barely believed he could get down to 100kg at the start but now he’s at 124kg he can see it’s definitely possible.
Tenealle next, she needs 4.1kg to topple Pablo. Not much chance of that, she’s not very big anymore. But it’s not impossible!
Tenealle Previous: 114.5kg
Tenealle Now: 111.6kg
Tenealle Loss: 2.9kg
Tenealle Percentage: 2.53%
Tenealle’s goal weight is 67-70kg. She wants to fit into a surf shop hoodie. A winter hoodie. From a surf shop. What. Johnee says she’s very simple. Tenealle also says she has some hot friends she’d like to be around the same size as, and Daniel would like to meet some of those hot friends. Heh.
Rob needs at least 4.5kg to beat Pablo. He’s not super confident.
Rob Previous: 124.1kg
Rob Now: 119.3kg
Rob Loss: 4.8kg
Rob Percentage: 3.87%
Rob thanks Mish for helping a lot and he also grew a lot in the week.
Rob says with the new baby on the way the $20,000 would come in handy but he’d also share the money with his nephews for keeping him going, getting him up in the morning. Tony says he’s the one who wakes them up each morning, Rob turns the light switch on because he’s the closest. Mish tells him to keep on doing that!
Next up, Cliff. He has a 1kg weight advantage, but will need at least 5.4kg to topple Rob. He’s huge, but that’s probably too much for him?
Cliff Previous: 164.2kg
Cliff Now: 158.2kg
Cliff Loss: 6kg +1kg
Cliff Percentage: 4.26%
He’s smashed that out of the park! Cliff says to Tiff that they’ve done it! Cliff’s emotional because he’s proud of himself for once. He gave it everything this week, found out what was holding him back, it was himself. Negative attitude and energy, wasn’t motivating himself. Steve gives him a, “See. See!” Look. Heh.
Cue replay of the fight from the last weigh in. Cliff says sorry to everyone for his harsh words last week. Even though he was angry he still appreciated that everyone was supporting him. He thinks having talked about his father’s passing with Steve has really helped him, even though it’s hard to talk about. Tiff’s tearing up a bit now too. Not very ninja!
Johnee’s turn. No weight goal from Fiona before he steps up?
Johnee Previous: 180.5kg
Johnee Now: 178.9kg
Johnee Loss: 1.6kg
Johnee Percentage: 0.89%
He’s hobbling a bit on the way to the scales but he can walk without support so it can’t be that bad? Anyway, he’s happy to be in the 170s, says he probably hasn’t been that low since Year 9 or 10. His injuries are only a setback. On the outside he would’ve given up, but he’s trying to stay positive.
Moses is worried about Johnee, telling us he was hoping to lose less than him so he’d be the one to face elimination.
Moses Previous: 100kg
Moses Now: 98.5kg
Moses Loss: 1.5kg
Moses Percentage: 1.5%
Moses asks if he’s under Johnee and someone says no and he says crap! Johnee needs to be there till the end, Moses says. He’d been hoping to fall below. No such luck, you’d have to waterload pretty hard!
Daniel’s turn. He needs 4.4kg. He’s been the biggest loser of the week four times so he’d have to be a firm favourite to win it. He says he’s not trying to win though, he just wants to be above the yellow line and be under 100kg. Good for him!
Daniel Previous: 102.7kg
Daniel Now: 99.8kg
Daniel Loss: 2.9kg
Daniel Percentage: 2.82%
Daniel’s asked if he’ll be confident to meet some ladies on the outside now and he says he’s already confident!
Mel Previous: 133.8kg
Mel Now: 132.3kg
Mel Loss: 1.5kg
Mel Percentage: 1.12%
Mel was hoping for more. But hey, she’s done better than Johnee! Jodie’s very worried, both for Mel and for herself.
Jodie needs 2.6kg to stay above Mel. She’s nervous because her and Mel’s losses are usually fairly close.
Jodie Previous: 135kg
Jodie Now: 132.9kg
Jodie Loss: 2.1kg -1kg
Jodie Percentage: 0.81%
Jodie says they got their wish, then. Tenealle tries to object but Jodie says she’s heard them all say they want her below the line and Tenealle kind of stumbles to a halt. She knows they’ve been doing it.
Only one person left. Just Tony to go. Tony’s not huge, but he’ll need 4.5kg or more to win. The Jofres are encouraging him. Cliff says that he got his own good result by getting up early and working hard, but every time he’s gotten up early Tony’s been up as well. Cliff said earlier in the house that whoever wins, deserves it, so he wishes Tony good luck.
Tony Previous: 103.8kg
Tony Now: 98.4kg
Tony Loss: 5.4kg
Tony Percentage: 5.2%
Tony’s just won $20,000 and he’s super excited, as you might imagine. Tony says they came in as a family and he wants to see them all reach their goals and he wants to see everyone else in the house reach their goals too.
So it’s Jodie and Johnee facing elimination. If they’re smart they’ll eliminate Johnee this time, but they might stick with the alliance. Going to be an interesting elimination tomorrow night, that’s for sure!
Before we move on to “next time on Biggest Loser” we get a brief clip of Moses being wheeled out on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. Nobody’s sure what’s happening, Johnee’s hobbled out to see him disappear. Guess we’ll find out more tomorrow night?
Tomorrow night, elimination time! Moses doesn’t seem to be in the elimination room, so it’s probably something serious enough that he’s staying in hospital for at least a while?
He doesn’t seem to be at the weekly Game, either. But it’s possible he’s just been forced to sit out of that as it involves very large volumes of water being poured into containers being held over the contestant’s shoulders… It’s the return of the endurance challenge, this time with a more sensible method of piling on the weight than trying to slide weights onto a bar.
