TBL 10×18 – We Are Family! So Why Are We All So Angry?

Previously on The Biggest Loser we saw Cliff throw another childish tantrum, this time over his inability to build a decent contrivance to get water from a tank to a tube. The Jofres managed it and won yet another instance of The Game and now have some kind of ULTIMATE POWER.

Sylvia was eliminated last night and on the way out she threw some serious shade on her family and the rest of the house is seemingly in agreeance with her assessment of Sam and Cliff being a bit fake and only there for the money. That’s probably not helping Cliff’s mood and if the Jofres target them with their power things might go from bad to worse.

Tonight some players from the NSW Waratahs rugby union team are going to help out with some training. The girls are all a-flutter, big and dumb never really go out of style, huh?

So what’s in the box, red team? What’s your amazing power this time? They’re all quite excited about it. Rob says they might give it to someone or take it themselves, so not necessarily a bad thing?

Everyone’s very nervous when the Jofres return to Camp Biggest Loser to reveal their power. But they needn’t be so nervous, Rob says they get to choose a team to go home and see their families. They won’t be in any challenges or anything else right up until the weigh in.

Rob would really like to go home and see his daughter, but Tony tells us he knows it could also be a big distraction. All the usual temptations and bad habits are still back home.

Jodie says she would like to go home and check on Ali and her Dad and also see her boyfriend. Sam says she doesn’t want to go home. Doesn’t want to go home and see her daughter?!

I guess it’s not as big a deal since they did just talk to their families on a video call. Do you really need to go back home again? Moses would really like to go see Rina and the kids though.

So it’s basically just the Hailwoods that don’t want to go home?

Rob tells them all to go up to their rooms and pack their bags because they’ll be leaving tonight if they’re the ones to go home.

Everyone’s wondering what the Jofres might pick. Cliff thinks maybe they’ll go home themselves or send the Auvales home. Sam’s not so sure because the challenge could be giving out immunity, which would be bad to miss out on the chance to have. Cliff’s also worried they might get sent home themselves and they’ll have to confront Sylvia and also babysit her. Except we already know Sylvia’s done just fine on the outside, we saw her last night!

The Jofres are having a chat. Rob would really like to go home and see his pregnant partner and his little daughter. But the other boys are worried about how it might affect them. No access to trainer or gyms, no shot at the challenge, etc. They’d all like to go home but they think they might be better off sending one of the other teams home. Both by getting to stay themselves and also putting the other team behind the 8-ball.

Moses says he wants to see his kids, he tells Johnee. Johnee’s worried, he doesn’t want to miss out on the training sessions and so on.

The Jofres reach a unanimous decision but wait to tell us until the rest of the teams are there. It’s been a hard decision, lots of discussion. Rob really wants to see his daughter but there’s lots of temptation on the outside and it’s important to stay at Camp.

It’s a great prize if the family uses it wisely and they’re wishing the family they’ve chosen the best of luck… And they’ve dumped it on the Hailwoods. Hah!

Sam’s not happy. They want to see their daughter, of course, and catch up with Kayla. But it’s a bit scary. Rob wishes them good luck and says they’ll see them at weigh in.

Back in their room the Hailwoods are discussing it, they know it’s a very strategic decision. No way they were sent home as a favour and they know it.

And then Rob confirms it to the other families, telling them they know the Hailwoods have a 4 hour flight home to Perth and then back again before weigh in. It’s going to upset their training regime, they might not train as much as they would have at Camp, they might fight with Sylvia, etc.

Sam’s nervous as they head out of Camp Biggest Loser, but happy she’ll get to see her daughter. Aww!

After an ad break they’re at an athletics field for a special training session. Mish is in a very puffy jacket.

As the teams roll up Tiffiny notices the White Team isn’t among them. The Jofres answer Tiff with the explanation about them being sent home until weigh in. And Tiff does her big shocked face that all the stupid ads have been trying to pretend are for the Waratahs. LIARS.

Anyway, Tiffiny’s very worried about her team facing all their old demons at home. They’ve been working hard to make progress and this is definitely going to derail them. Tiff doesn’t need to be there for the training session, she guesses, so she decides to head off. Mish gives her an “Aww Tiff!” hug on the way out. Tiff salutes and walks off. Mish calls out after her that she’s not the biggest loser, to much giggling from everyone. It’s always very pleasing to me the way the trainers have fun with each other, rather than being horrible arseholes.

So the contestants are at E.S. Mark’s Athletic Field, where a lot of famous faces and teams have trained. Matt Shirvington, Cathy Freeman, Sydney Roosters, Sydney FC. Perfect place to up their game, Shannan tells them.

Today they’ve brought one of the best, most successful teams to help them train today. The NSW Waratahs! Or four of them. And two of their trainers!

Johnee and Moses are particularly chuffed as they’re keen on the rugby. Mel and Jodie are giggling already, they’re a bit alright apparently.

The players are… Bernard Foley? John O’Lance? Tul O’Grey? Tatafu something or other. I have no fucking idea. If someone in the comments wants to put the real names down that’d be sweet!

The Waratahs trainer says teamwork is important. Thanks dude.

Shannan says Jodie doesn’t like sand but how does she feel about grass? Johnee says she won’t be looking at the grass today! So much laughter.

Each team is assigned a couple of Waratahs and they get down to training as Rob is laughing to us about how upset Cliff would be to miss this.

Speaking of Cliff, here’s Sam and Cliff arriving in Perth to visit Kayla. They’re not looking forward to talking to Sylvia but Kayla is another matter. They let Kayla know they’re not home for long, just for a couple of days until weigh in. Sam felt like they were getting closer as a family at the start of their journey but now she feels like the family is splitting apart.

Kayla’s seen Sylvia. Sylvia explained what happened. Sam’s so mad, still. Kayla’s a bit clueless so maybe Sylvia didn’t tell her everything? Cue more recap footage.

Sam’s in tears in Kayla’s kitchen. Kayla’s kitchen is remarkably clean considering it’s an “impromptu” visit. Who keeps their kitchen that clean all the time? Nobody!

Ad break, back to Waratahs session. Johnee’s doing a sumo session with… the guy who’s a hooker. A very good hooker, Johnee says. I believe him. Pushing back and forth, Johnee can’t really move him, nor can Moses, but Hookerboy is impressed by their strength.

The Pestells are doing some agility training with their Waratah peeps. The trainers have a bet on as well, saying whichever of their contestants loses means the trainer has to do pushups. Heh. Shannan’s impressed they’ve come up with a fun way of getting the girls into it.

Shannan reminds us that one week ago Jodie refused to do any training in the sand, then wouldn’t do the boxing training at last chance. Today she’s working out harder than ever before, has a smile on her face and is encouraging Mel as well. Shannan’s thrilled. And Jodie says her trainer in her ear was very encouraging, keeping her on track and letting her know how far to go when she was running backwards and stuff.

Shannan knows they can’t afford weak links in the team with only two of them left. Shannan gets them to promise in front of the Waratahs what they’re going to do from here on in. Mel promises to work hard and get out of bed early each day. Jodie promises to work hard and be nice to Mel! Huge change in Jodie in particular, Mel seems to have gotten it a while ago. Jodie says they’re not going back below the yellow line ever again.

Moses has had a great time training with the Waratahs and he says he’s changing his allegiance from the Canterbury Crusaders to the Waratahs. Johnee says he’s just crossed the line!

Everyone thanks the Waratahs boys for their time today. The Pestells get a bunch of hugs and Moses and the hooker exchange shirts. As do some of the Jofres, it seems. They don’t fit into the Waratah training shirts so well but it’s a nice souvenir.

Now we’re back in Perth with the Hailwoods. Kayla’s found Sylvia. This is going to be awkwarrrrrrrrd. Can we just skip past it and assume they’re all awful and get back to cheering the other teams on? Okay, thanks.

… fiiiine. They’re in Kayla’s immaculate kitchen again. Kayla’s trying to broker peace between the warring factions. Sylvia denies saying she was forced into going up for elimination, saying instead that she just felt like with Cliff being “the way that he is” it was always going to be her. Sam says they were told Sylvia said she felt worthless and wanted to go home where people valued her.

Sylvia denies saying Sam and Cliff were fake, but no that was Tony, she swears on her kids lives. Cue footage of Sylvia agreeing they’re fake sometimes. Mmmhmmmm.

Kayla reminds them that the Jofres don’t care about them, they sent them home to try and wipe the Hailwoods out. They used to be strong and now they’re down to just the two of them. They’re standing in their own kitchen (OHHH, that’s why it’s so neat!) because they’re seen as a threat.

Sylvia apologises, she didn’t want it to come across the way that it did, she should have defended her family from Tony’s accusations. It’s rare to get an apology from Sylvia, Cliff says, so they’ll take it. And they’re all going to talk a lot more to each other instead of holding things back. They’re going to focus on spending time with their daughter, working out and hopefully pushing the other teams below the line.

The Jofres are still at their secret training sessions. Their weightloss is plateauing so they’ve got to keep going. We’re getting “security camera” style footage of them working out at 11pm.

But they didn’t come there to be second, they came to be first. They want to be the final four and if that means wiping out the Hailwoods by sending them home, that’s what they’re going to do.

Sam and Cliff are off to visit their little girl with… Whoever’s been looking after her? It’s really late at night and it looks like the poor little bugger has been dragged out of bed and is kind of clueless as to what all the excitement is over. But Sam’s in tears and really happy to have her in her arms. Awwww.

Sam thinks the Jofres made a mistake sending them home because it’s just going to make them work harder. Yeah, we’ll see!

Now it’s time for the weekly challenge. They’re at the beach again but this time on a grassy hill bit instead of the sand. There’s some boxes and bits of wood and handsaws but nobody can work out what the challenge will be yet.

No Hailwoods for this challenge (applause!) so it’s a three way competition today.

Each team will get a series of wooden beams they’ll need to saw into small blocks. Carry as many blocks as you can up the hill to put into one of the boxes. The goal is not to fill up your own box, rather you need to fill up another team’s boxes.

First family to have their container filled will be eliminated from the challenge. The remaining teams will keep going until a winner is decided.

The winning family today will get a 2kg weight advantage. That’s a big advantage at this stage of the game, Fiona reminds them.

Of course they’ll be competing in teams of two, so the Jofres have to sit out two members and the Auvales have to sit one out. The Jofres are still just happy they chose to stay since now they get a chance at a really important advantage.

Moses and Johnee learned to saw things with their Dad growing up so they’re pretty confident. Tenealle will be sitting out. They’ve not thought about the bit where you’ve got to carry the blocks up the hill, Tenealle probably would have been better at that?

Tony and Rob will be repping the Jofres this time. Mel and Jodie know this is going to be a tough challenge because they’re the only girls competing. But they both seem keen to give it a bash.

The Auvales are first to saw off a chunk of wood, but it’s a big piece, which may not be the best strategy.

Moses hares off up the hill with his huge chunk, but Tony manages to overtake him on the way up… or so it appears. We seem to have missed some of the challenge as Moses arrives at the top to put a much smaller piece of wood into the box than he was carrying before the ad break. And the blue box, the one red and black are loading up first, already has three bits in it. Hmmm.

Mel and Jodie are struggling with the saw. Neither of them have sawed anything in their lives, of course. Everyone’s a bit worried Mel might saw a finger off and Jodie eventually realises it’ll work better if she’s holding the piece of wood stable. They manage to get a bunch of blocks all at once done and both plod up the hill together. They get up there and realise that the red/black alliance is indeed loading up their box first. They’re not surprised but they’re still determined to try and make it hard for the Jofres to win. Go girls!

They’re very big boxes and it’s going to take a while to fill them up, but having two teams working on the problem is definitely a huge help.

The Jofres are also planning ahead for what’s going to happen after they manage to knock out the Pestells. They’re stockpiling some wood as they’re finding the sawing the harder part. Johnee’s been sawing through five in a row as he’s found that easier, while Moses trudges back and forth carrying blocks.

The Jofres have noticed the Pestells are loading up their box and are trying to talk them out of it. But the girls don’t want the Jofres to have an advantage, they don’t need it.

The Jofres and Auvales have also, rather foolishly, dropped a few blocks on the ground right at the boxes. And it seems there’s no rule against the Pestells picking those up and dumping them in the Jofre box too! Hah!

Tony says loading them up is going to come at a price but Jodie and Mel say they can’t hear them, they’re too busy working. Pestell Power, they’re repeating as they saw through more bits of wood. Shannan would be really proud of them, given they’re doing a challenge that involves sawing wood when they’ve never done it before.

Things are going well for the Jofres and Auvales until Tony tries to put a piece of wood that’s a bit too big into the Pestell box. And it gets stuck. And the more they hammer it, the more stuck it seems to get. Uhoh!

Moses and Johnee suggest Tony go and get the saw and Tony trots off. Jodie’s wondering what’s going on, are they out or what? Nope, Tony tells them as he picks up the saw. He got a piece stuck!

Tony tries to saw the piece of wood but that just cuts a small slice in it, so they resume trying to hammer it in with other pieces of wood. Jodie says they’re not out yet then, it’s not full so they’re still in it.

Tony doesn’t really seem too upset, he’s having a bit of a laugh about it with the girls. Jodie says he should have cut a better block, their ones are fitting into the Jofre box just fine. Mel sings out they’re happyyyyy.

Tony tells us it’s been about 20 minutes he’s been hammering away at it. It’s still going to take the girls a damn long time to fill up the Jofre box but if Tony can’t fix the problem, it’s inevitable.

Sunday! The Hailwoods return to “a firestorm” as the trainers go to war again. Oh guys, come on. Don’t fight among yourselves. Michelle seems to start it by talking about the supposed Hailwood-Pestell alliance and Shannan brings up the Commando-Mish romance, to which Mish retorts she’s at work. Then things are going to get more fiery and it looks like Commando might posture a bit towards Shannan, telling him to watch what he says? But it might be at Cliff, as Cliff is seen retorting, “OR WHAT?”

Or you’ll have to do a training session with Commando Steve, it seems? Looks like Steve’s going to thrash him, which can only be to his own team’s detriment, surely? Hmm.

Another very angry weigh in all round. I miss everyone being supportive and nice… Just kidding, tear everyone’s face off, it’s hilarious!
