TBL 10×14 – So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehn To Johnee?
Previously on The Biggest Loser the Jofres had all the power in the game and they’ve used it to their maximum advantage, putting Johnee from the Auvales up for elimination. Alongside Ali, but that’s probably not important, Johnee is surely the one who’ll go?
Tonight, we find out how accurate my prognostication has been. Will they send the big threat Johnee home or will they screw over the Pestells by sending Ali home.
After the elimination The Game returns. Some kind of memory challenge, coupled with mini cupcakes. Very pretty looking mini cupcakes. I don’t imagine they’re light on calories, however.
First, time for the elimination room. Princess Fiona has changed her dress again. She’s in a black snakeskin patterned looking dress instead of the blue she wore to weigh in.
Anyway, Hailwoods, want to see who’s been put up for elimination by the Jofres?
Heads fall as they see it’s Ali and Johnee walking in. They expected to see Ali or Jodie up, but they’re most surprised by Johnee being up.
Johnee says this isn’t how he’d’ve scripted it but he guesses he’s not writing the script today. He doesn’t feel betrayed because it is a game at the end of the day. It might not be the right time to break up the alliance, Johnee suggests, and they might regret not having the Auvales still with three members.
Ali knows the red and black teams have an alliance, so she’s still nervous. Having Johnee in the room doesn’t guarantee her safety. And she wants to stay for her daughter, nothing to do with her sisters right now. And it’s going to help everyone in the game to dump Johnee, he’s a big threat.
Johnee acknowledges he’s a big threat, but he and his wife are there because they want to have kids. He’s the biggest guy on the show, so he needs to be there more than anyone. He says it’s a chance for them to play with dignity and pride. You can’t connive and strategise through the whole game, he thinks, at some point you’ve got to go with your heart.
True, Johnee, but you’re assuming the Jofres have a heart! Johnee says that while Ali is there for her sisters, she also has a beautiful baby to go home to. He wants a beautiful baby too!
Fiona wishes them luck. Hailwoods are voting first. Cliff says it’s the hardest choice yet. He spoke with Moses on day one and Moses say he’d never write Cliff’s name down because he wanted Johnee and Cliff to be the last two contestants standing – not for the money, just for their health. But the Hailwoods have an alliance with the Pestells, so it’s tearing him apart. He might cry, but he’s voted for Ali. As expected.
Sylvia knows where both are coming from, her and her husband have been trying for another child for months, unsuccessfully. She’s voting with her heart, too, choosing to send Ali home.
Sam can relate to Ali and her baby and Johnee’s wish for a baby… But she’s voting for Ali as well.
Three votes for Ali and the Hailwoods are done. One from any of the Jofres will send Ali home.
Daniel’s first. He says he doesn’t like the negativity coming from Ali, it makes the time in the house unpleasant, but it is a game and you need a strategy. Johnee’s a huge threat and this vote is for strategy. And it’s the same strategy they’ve had from the start. He’s voted off…
ALI. WHOA!
Pablo says they don’t break their alliances, don’t break their word. This was just a test to see how strong the White/Blue alliance was. And it seems like it’s not that strong.
Ooooooooouch.
Ali didn’t expect the white team to vote for her, though she was pretty sure she’d be going home either way. Sylvia tries to make an excuse but Ali doesn’t want to hear it, they’ve crossed the line in writing her name down. If it had been Hailwoods and Auvales below the line the Pestells wouldn’t’ve written one of their names down.
Yeahhh, so the Hailwoods did the hard work and made sure not to fall under the line. What’s your excuse, Ali? Hmmm.
Ali asks them if they even realise who their greatest threat is and Cliff retorts it’s anyone not wearing white.
Ali tearfully asks Tony to get Jodie to push on and mend fences with Shannan. The team needs to be strong because nobody has their back. SHANNAN HAS YOUR BACK. YOU DON’T LISTEN TO HIM. ARGGGGGGGH.
Gosh. It’s going to be a barrel of laughs when she gets a second chance, isn’t it? Thought they’d bring Johnee back but will anyone want sad sack Ali back? Noooo.
Ali tells Tony last of all to make sure the other girls know the white team is not to be trusted.
Ali says she’s going to do ice skating with her daughter at home, she’s going to take the lessons and be more active with her daughter. And the thing she’s most enjoyed? The challenges, even though they never won any of them. Hah! Maybe there’s hope for her still?
After an ad break the leftover blues and blacks are in the lounge waiting to see who comes back. Moses and Tenealle think Johnee will be going. Tenealle is absolutely convinced.
The elimination room people file back in, followed by Johnee. And a tiny smile comes back to Tenealle’s face.
Tense elimination room, Tony says. But now Johnee knows the Jofres have got his back all the way. They’re there to support him and help him lose the weight so he can start a family.
Then Tony relays that four votes were cast and three of the votes were from the Hailwoods, all for Ali.
Jodie’s about to explode. Tony passes on the keep strong and work hard message to Jodie, as well as the don’t trust white team thing. Daniel passes on the message about mending fences with Shannan, which gets Jodie upset again, telling him it’s nothing to do with the rest of them. They calmly explain they’re just passing on Ali’s message. Good boys, don’t get shot!
Jodie and Mel stalk off and have a bit of a swear in another corridor of the house. The red and black alliance has taken over the game, Jodie thinks. You can still make a come back, you just have to train harder!
Next day the trainers arrive and they’re all a bit nervous as they weren’t at the weigh in. Does Michelle have a bit of a belly? Is it my imagination? Does she have a tiny scary fit baby in her belly yet?
Blue team has lost another member, which doesn’t surprise Shannan. The girls fight with each other, they fight with him and they fight with everyone else in the house.
Tony’s the chosen speaker of the moment and he explains to Shannan that the girls were bickering at the weigh in again, blaming Mel for everything and the rest of the house got in behind Mel. Shannan asks if the arguing and fighting changed their minds about who to send home. Tony admits they were originally going to put Jodie up but after hearing all the fighting and so on, they chose Ali instead.
They really don’t like the girls picking on Mel, huh?
Jodie pipes up to say the other contestants think they pick on Mel, but they don’t know the history between them and so on. Shannan says she’s right, they don’t know the history but it’s in the past and they can only judge her by her behaviour now. And at the moment it’s not the way she really wants to be seen, is it?
Shannan tells us that after so many seasons of The Biggest Loser he’s never had a team that was so determined to fight and buck the system. He’s got to take all his experience and bring it to bear on getting the girls turned around mentally so he can get something from them physically. Giggity.
Shannan starts out by telling Jodie the last two sessions she’s finished sitting down, but this time he’s picked exercises he knows she’s good at and play to her strengths. He wants her approval for it and hopefully she can enjoy it, finish the whole session and then they can sit down and have a chat afterwards.
Mel’s getting straight into it with no fuss and even Jodie’s actually working out. Not as hard as it seems Mel is working, but it’s a start.
Shannan then says he wants to show them how things can be moving forward. He wants to put aside everything that’s happened before, it’s all wiped off the record, he’s only going to judge Jodie by her efforts from here on out. He tells us he knows he’s got to get through to them before his team is wiped out entirely.
After one circuit, Shannan has them on the bike pedalling slowly while having a little chat, then back to the circuit. Shannan is mostly keeping it calm and gentle, tells the girls he’ll assume if they always speak to each other nicely in the gym then that’s the way it’s always been. He tells us Jodie thinks if she pushes everybody far enough away they’ll give up on her.
Shannan’s not going to though. Because Shannan is definitely better than all of us.
So, anything else he needs to know about the family? Jodie says five or six years ago Mel ended up in hospital, she had cellulitis on her leg and it got really bad because she didn’t go see a doctor about it. Mel says she just ignored it. Jodie says she nearly died from it and that was really hard to see. It’s still hard when they see her not looking after herself now.
Do they love her? Yes, Jodie says. That’s why they push her so hard and motivate her, they’re worried about her. Have they told Mel they love her? When was the last time? Jodie says she’s not sure, certainly not since they’ve been at Camp. Mel loves her sisters too, but she admits she doesn’t think she’s ever told either of them.
Clean slate, starting this week, Shannan reminds them. Anything they want to say? Jodie says she loves Mel, they’re there to get help and fix each other, get Mel some help, make sure she doesn’t get sick again. It’s why they came!
Jodie’s in tears. Mel’s just got a small smile on her face and says she loves Jodie and they’re going to get it done.
So when was the last time they hugged? Yesterday! Okay, Shannan’s pleased by that, says they don’t have to do that bit then. He’s much more hopeful for the team after all this.
Jodie tells us she feels like it’s a reboot of the team, so she’s hoping they can continue to get along and work together and go on.
Commando Steve’s pleased they survived elimination but he knows they can’t survive it every time, they need to stay above the line and make sure it’s not an issue in the future.
Steve thinks Johnee’s tough childhood has affected him more than he thought. He needs to deal with that, put it behind him and move forward. Johnee tells us his dad was a hard man and they come from poverty. They were living four families to a one bedroom apartment, so now they actually have some “stuff” they want more of it.
Commando’s pushing them hard in a proper gym today. He’s telling them they probably felt like it would be easier coming in than it ended up being. Johnee’s determined to work extra hard this week, lose more weight, etc. Unlikely to have the same pitfall at the next weigh in, at least.
The Hailwoods have rowing machines out on Commando Steve’s sandpit. Tiff’s pushing Sylvia to finish first in the rowing race, show her the Hailwood spirit. Tiff thinks there’s a lot of potential in the team but something’s holding them back still.
Sylvia’s panting and moaning and almost gives up at one point. Then, once the rowing is done, it’s on to the next exercise… or it would be, but Sylvia’s just sitting there. She tells Tiff it’s so hard this week. She’s missing her kids and Kayla and she’s not breathing so well and finding it hard to keep up with Cliff and Sam. Tiff says she is keeping up with them, she’s stronger than she thinks, her body can do the work, it’s just the mind telling her she can’t do it.
Tiff recalls sitting in Sylvia’s car eating chicken wings and pizza and Sylvia telling her that’s just her. Tiff’s not buying that, it’s not her, she’s stronger than that. Don’t think she’s weak, think ahead of what her partner’s going to think when he sees the change in her.
Tiff says it’s a numbers game at the weigh in and at the elimination and they’ve got no friends now. So they’ve got to keep losing the weight or they’re doomed as nobody has their back.
Now it’s time for The Game. Wait, no Mish workout with the Jofres? I’m sure it was pretty perfunctory but, as a commenter noted, it’s a bit weird we’re not really seeing much Mish right now. Isn’t it?
Anyway, Fiona’s here for the game. In a blue top with zippers.
It’s a super size game of memory. Sylvia’s excited, says she’s great with her memory games so she can prove to her family they need her around.
At the top of the driveway is a colour board with 36 coloured squares. Replicate the pattern on your own family’s board and be first to win.
So what’s with the cupcakes and celery? Well, every time you want to go check the master board you have to draw a ball out of a bag. Get a green ball and you have to eat a 3 calorie piece of celery. Pink ball, cupcake! Tiny little cupcake is 90 calories.
Make a bunch of mistakes and this could add up quickly!
Up for grabs is another mystery power that could permanently change the landscape and so on. It’s worth winning, but isn’t it always?
But it’s entirely up to the teams whether they even compete. Moses says Steve has instructed them not to play if they don’t know what the prize is and there’s calories involved.
Each team can only have two people in the race as the Pestells only have two players left. Pablo and Tony will rep the Jofres, Johnee and Tenealle for Auvales, Sylvia and Cliff for Hailwoods and of course Jodie and Mel for the Pestells. Jodie’s confident as she feels she has a good memory.
They all have to draw a ball to start playing. Three teams pick green balls, but it’s a huge chunk of celery to try and choke down and they’re struggling. Meanwhile Johnee’s got a tiny cupcake gobbled up and is on his way to the master board.
Most teams seem to have hit on the smart way of doing it, one line memorised at a time. Sylvia was confident until she saw there’s 36 different colours.
The Hailwood strategy is to just let Sylvia do the whole thing. She’s good at such puzzles, Cliff says. Sylvia’s a bit worried she’ll get a bunch of cupcakes. Her second ball is, indeed, a cupcake, but she mashes it into her gob and sets off again.
The Auvales made a decision they wouldn’t eat more than four cupcakes each. That’s still a lot of calories, especially if you don’t win!
Sylvia’s having another cupcake, just after Johnee eats his own.
Tony’s told Pablo to do the bottom three rows first but it seems he’s not doing that and has put three blocks in the top left for some reason. He’s sure they’re right though!
Jodie tells us it’s hard doing this without Ali as she’s the strong one and probably has a better memory. Fiona encourages them to go faster, they’re falling behind. Doesn’t matter, Fi, getting it right is going to be more important!
The Auvales are tripping themselves up on which block is grey and which is black. They look pretty different on the screen but light’s a tricky thing. Their family boards are in shade but they’ve got to run back and forth through sunlight and eat things in between. Tricky.
Meanwhile, Sylvia’s chomping another stick of celery… as Johnee calls for a check of their board. But Fiona has bad news for them, it’s not correct. Better go try and work out which ones are wrong.
Jofres are next to call for a check, a second before the Hailwoods do. So Fiona steps in to check the Jofre board first…
But their board is incorrect!
And so is the Hailwood board. Oh dear. Sam suggests maybe Cliff should go but Sylvia says she’s happy to go again. And she gets another cupcake. Which is not great for calories but much better for speediness.
Pablo’s trying to remember the colours as football teams but Tony says they’re not football teams.
Auvales call for another check, just ahead of another team, not sure which.
But in the end it doesn’t matter as they’ve got it right at last. Much relief from the black team and red team. Not so much from Sylvia who’s eaten three cupcakes to not end up winning. Just get on the exercise bike, you’ll be okay.
Johnee’s the one who’ll be opening the case. What’s inside?
Oh, you know, stuff.
Now for a check in with Ali, ten weeks later. TEN? Okay.
She’s running! And a lot more active with Tilly. She’s under 100kg since leaving the house as well. She trains five or six hours a day, which she says is fun. And she’s been training with her Dad as well, telling us they’re ones to watch out for at the finale.
She’s got a fancier haircut, too. And she’s gone from a size 22-24 down to a size 16. She thinks she’s sexy now but I think maybe she should save that for the finale.
Tomorrow night we find out what the Auvales power will be. It will apparently give them a chance to knock out the Jofres in some way, get free of the alliance? Hmmm.
Tiff’s going to taunt Cliff in training, trotting ahead declaring “I’m a Jofre, come get me!” Would certainly encourage me to run faster!
Then the weekly challenge kicks off and it’s another epic battle on a sandy beach. Crawl under things, crawl over things, run up and down the sand, argue with each other a whoooole bunch…
