TBL 10×12 – And Jodie’s Just Like, I Can’t Even
Previously on The Biggest Loser we said goodbye to Kayla at the weekly elimination as the Jofre/Auvale alliance kicked in.
Then at The Game the Jofres won yet another advantage of some kind. What is it? We find out tonight!
Tonight! The Pestells are at it again, bitching and moaning and fighting amongst themselves instead of training. Poor Shannan.
Later, former winner of The Biggest Loser and current fireman Sam Rouen is going to run the contestants through some of his firefighting training. Looking forward to seeing that but first we have to eat our greens, in the form of more Pestell bickering.
As the episode picks up the Jofres walk into the lounge to tell the other teams what was in the case. In the case was a set of four discs with the team names on them. And it means the Jofres will get to choose which sole person from their family will represent them at weigh in. Who goes under the line will be decided based on single effort, so nobody can slack off this week in case they get put up as their representative.
Anyway, time to train! Mish reminds her team that if they’re going to play the game hard they’ve got to train hard. Mish tells us it’s going to be hard to keep track of everyone else’s movements, though the Jofres think it’ll be easy to keep track of their exercises and dietary intake. Wonder if they’ll get it right?
Shannan’s got his girls out on the sand again, with some dumbbells. They’re trudging pretty slowly and Shannan can tell things haven’t gone so well. What’d they eat? And did they work it off in training last night? No, they didn’t train last night because they didn’t want to be around the other teams.
Shannan’s miffed, tells us they’re supposed to be working out every morning and every night but they’ve already missed a morning and a night session and it’s only the start of the week.
So what was the power? Jodie explains and says it’s not really a bad power and Shannan says it’s not a problem if they’re all working their butts off.
But okay, time to train! Bear crawls first. Hands and feet on the ground and waddle across. Mel and Ali are both doing it without any drama… but Jodie? No, no she doesn’t want to do that. No crawling. She doesn’t want to get dirty, she doesn’t want to hurt herself. Big tantrum.
So Shannan takes Ali and Mel off to train with them, telling Jodie to do what she wants, “champ!” Hah! Thought he might just leave her be and maybe he would’ve if she’d actually done some training… instead she’s just parked her arse on a log and is sitting through the session. Shannan calls out that if the red team sees that she’s not working out she’ll be the one going up and then their team will face elimination again. Jodie says he’s not helping her so she may as well go home.
Shannan asks her what she wants to do if she doesn’t want to do the crawling. Jodie says Shannan doesn’t listen to her, any time she has something to say he has something to say back. Probably because you’re usually saying “I can’t” and Shannan says “You can” and Shannan is always right, but you never listen!
Shannan points out that she blames everyone else, from the other teams to her own team to her trainer. There’s nobody left to blame! Get up and do something!
Shannan gets a bit furious now, asks if she thinks he likes turning up every day unwilling to train? She asks again that he start listening to her and he says what does she want to do, sit down all the time. She retorts that she’s never wanted to sit down… as she’s still sitting down.
Jodie tries again to say the treadmill is too hard for someone her size and Shannan points out that Mel managed it. There’s also a whole bunch of past season contestants who are much bigger than her and managed to not only get on the treadmill but RUN.
Jodie says, again, that he doesn’t listen. But he does! He just doesn’t believe your lies. Shannan reiterates that it’s everyone elses fault in the world. Jodie finally starts to talk about other things, saying that they can never win anything and they’re frustrated. Shannan says it’s because they’re not training enough and Jodie reckons they do. Shannan tells us they’re supposed to have done four training sessions on their own and they’ve missed two. That’s not a great start.
Ali and Mel have come in now and Ali says they train as hard as they can and yet they’re still below the yellow line. Shannan’s having none of that, says they’re not doing everything they can. Mel agrees with Shannan, says he expects more from them. Which annoys Ali, who rounds on Mel to say she’s not doing enough either. Which Mel knows and Shannan says she’s 100% right and then Ali and Jodie gang up on Mel. Shannan says whoa, it was supposed to be you guys versus him right now. But they’re at it again. Dumping all the blame on Mel for not doing her share, Ali’s claiming her and Jodie carry all the stress of the team.
Mel actually did well in training today, Shannan says. Did everything she was asked to do, but neither Jodie or Ali patted her on the back for putting in the hard work. In fact, it should have been Ali and Mel and Shannan versus Jodie. But instead Mel is said not to have their back, by Ali.
Ali’s losing her shit while Mel just stands around calmly trying to point out that Shannan’s right. Kinda hoping Shannan tells Ali and Jodie to go fuck themselves and just work out with Mel for the next few sessions.
Ali says it’s not fair, Mel doesn’t work out as hard as them. Ali insists they work out as hard as they can and Shannan tries to point out they missed sessions as Ali storms off.
Poooor Shannan. No idea what he’s going to do with those girls if they keep being awful. It might not be a problem much longer since they’ll all get eliminated.
We’re taking a break from the dumb Pestells to see what the Hailwoods are doing for training. Because Sylvia’s got a bung ankle they’re going to do a pool session. Tiff thought this was a great idea but Sylvia’s horrified, says it’s freezing. Remember, this was filmed a few months ago and as much as Sydney isn’t the coldest city in Australia it’s not really pool weather in the dead of Winter. At least not an outside pool like Tiff’s urging the girls to get into.
Sylvia and Sam are shivering as they get in so Tiff tells them to get moving, it’ll warm them up. Cliff doesn’t seem to be struggling as much but perhaps it’s all the extra insulation?
As they swim up and down and carry some weights around Tiff can tell Sylvia’s not giving it 100%, so she has a surprise for her. The surprise is a bikini, something Sylvia’s always wanted to wear. But I don’t think she’ll fit in it just yet. It’s a goal garment for her, in Aaron’s (her husband) favourite colour. Sylvia doesn’t feel pretty for her husband, she didn’t even really feel pretty on her wedding day. She’s not sure how her husband could even stand to marry her.
The bikini is a size 14, Tiff says, which is for her goal weight and she’s sure Sylvia will get there.
Now, back to the Pestells. Jodie says they’re new people now. Mel says she needs to start acting like it. Jodie says how can Mel get down on her when she’s not doing enough work either. Mel says Jodie’s wasting her time there and Jodie asks how.
“By quitting!” Mel hits the nail on the head, but Jodie’s not going to hear it, is she? Nope, she’s still carrying on about people not listening. Jodie says she’s not quitting, she hasn’t said it’s time to get in the car and go home.
Shannan was going to go after Ali to try and get her back but he’s turning back almost immediately to separate Jodie and Mel. He tries to get them to play “Quiet As A Mouse” for a minute. Mel has a chuckle at that. Think she’s seen the light at least. Jodie’s still carrying on, asking Mel why she thinks Ali’s stormed off. BECAUSE YOU SAT DOWN INSTEAD OF TRAINING YOU STUPID WOMAN, ARG.
Shannan tells Jodie he’s never met three girls like them. Jodie says they’re not bad people and she doesn’t understand why people think they are. Shannan insists they’re not bad people, it’s just that the way they speak to each other is horrific. The way she speaks to him sometimes is horrific. The attitude in training is very bad. She’s very sweet and he tries to remind her of that every session, but there’s the good version of her and the bad one. She says she needs the bad version because she’s been hurt before, Shannan interrupts her to say you’ve got to let that one go, she’s not very nice. She’s trying to hang on, it’s time to let her go.
Shannan finally has her calmed down enough to give her a big hug and jokes it’s a shit cuddle, which gets a small laugh out of her. Is that the end of it? I doubt it, but Shannan says when his contestants are at their worst he has to be at his best and he’s never going to give up on the girls.
Shannan is definitely a better man than all of us put together. He can’t be getting paid enough to put up with those women.
Time to see how the Auvales are going in training. Commando Steve asks what’s happened since they last trained. They recount The Game for him and then we get more of Johnee telling us about how they’re in an alliance with red and how he thinks that means they’ll be safe, the Jofres will pick him to weigh in.
Johnee’s aiming for a loss of 5%, around 9kg in total and he asks Steve if that’s possible. How hard is he willing to train? Steve reckons it could be doable for a man Johnee’s size but it’s going to require a lot of pushing from Tenealle and Moses. And what if Jofres pick Tenealle or Moses? They’ll have to work out just as hard, too.
Moses shouldn’t have to carry the team on his back the whole time, it’s time for Johnee to take some of that burden off him. Johnee says to stop chitchatting with him and Steve gets a huge grin on his face and pumps his fists. Tells the others what Johnee said and it gets a grin from the other two as well. As they continue working out. Good session!
Sylvia and Ali are in the kitchen preparing some salads for lunch and Tony swoops in to spy on them, trying to work out calorie intakes so they can try and pick someone to sit out. Just pick the lightest member of each team, play the odds, you’ll probably win and you won’t have to take time out of your own training. Dummies.
Rob and Daniel are watching Sam and Cliff walking on the treadmill. Very low intensity, they notice. They work out harder than that for a warmup. They don’t seem to consider it might be a trick…
Next Tony is off to sit with Jodie and Mel. What are they talking about? Talking about Tony and his strategicness. Jodie thinks Tony’s being very smug after their win, very arrogant and creepy. This is what Shannan is talking about, Jodie. You’ve lost the ability to communicate with other people, you see the worst in them. Tony’s obviously having a laugh and Mel is giggling along with him. Tony says he does watch everything they do, they motivate him! Haha, riiiight. Jodie just seems very unhappy about the whole conversation, Mel just seems happy to have a boy sitting beside her. Even if it is Tony.
Anyway it’s time for the weekly challenge. They’re off to the fireman training grounds. Big tower with ropes hanging off it and Johnee thinks they’ll be abseiling, which he’s not thrilled about.
Fiona’s there but first they watch some firies rescue someone out of a crashed car using the jaws of life. Fiona tells them afterwards that they just witnessed a crash rescue. Thanks Princess Obvious!
Everyone is very impressed. And then an extra surprise, she introduces one of the firefighters. Firefighter Sam! “He is a hot fireman,” says Ali. And she’s right!
It was Sam that was being rescued in the demonstration. Fiona tells them all that he’s the winner of Season 3. Sam knows exactly what they’re going through, he was where they were. He knows it’s a tough slog but it’s absolutely worth it when you come out the other side. Hard to disagree when he always wanted to be a fireman and now not only is he a fireman he’s super buff and looking very healthy compared to where he was back at the start of his seasons.
Tony says Sam’s an inspiration, he’d love to be that fit and healthy at the end of his journey.
Just as the challenge is about to start the heavens open and it buckets down. Luckily Sam has an umbrella and he gets the enviable duty of shielding the Princess from the rain.
There’s multiple drills and three rounds in total in today’s challenge. Last team standing wins.
First up is a hose drag, pull out the hose to the end of the track, grab a flag, then the hose is reeled back to the start and you drag it out again. Do that ten times then make your way to the dummy hoist. Hoist your dummy to the top of the tower and the finish line. The dummies seem to have pictures of trainer faces on them, which is a nice touch since the trainers themselves don’t seem to be there today?
First three families to finish go through to round two. Last team will be eliminated. Team that wins will get to choose who faces elimination from the two bottom teams. Ouch. This is seeming a little skewed towards the Jofres again.
But maybe not. As the race kicks off Cliff is gunning it, dragging his hose way faster than anyone else and grabbing a flag first. Red and Black are a ways behind but of course the Blue team is bringing up the rear.
Jofres are swapping out hose pullers more often while Cliff seems to be doing more of the work. The Jofres take over the lead and the Auvales and Hailwoods take second and third. Fiona reminds them all that only the first three teams go to round two. It’s sure looking like the Pestells will be out.
The Jofres get to the dummy pull first and are quite amused to see Michelle’s face on it. They’re going to try and get her up the tower as fast as possible but they’re surprised at just how heavy it is to pull her up.
The Auvales and Hailwoods get to their pulling stations around the same time but it doesn’t look like the Jofres can be beaten in this one. They finish first and it’s really just down to the Hailwoods and Auvales. So long as they don’t screw up.
And suddenly the Hailwood stretcher gets stuck on the building which is a bit unfair. Will they be dumped out because the firies didn’t do their rigging properly?
A firefighter goes up to the window above the stretcher and tries to free it from the pipe it’s stuck on. He’s not having much luck either and Johnee sees that as a great chance to beat them. All class, dude.
The Auvales get second place pretty easily since the Hailwoods got stuck. But they’re finally free and pulling their dummy-Tiff back up the wall. Is it too late? Can the Pestells catch up? Mel’s actually getting encouragement from the other contestants which is pleasing her immensely.
The Hailwoods make it in third place, much to their relief. And I thought that would be the end of the Pestells but they’re actually continuing to pull and finish the challenge. They’ve not quit for a change! Everyone is very proud of them.
The next round is carrying 10 sandbags up a seven storey tower. First two teams to get their bags up the top of the tower, last team is out again. Sam’s worried because she’s not great with stairs at the best of times.
How are they going to even this out? Red has four boys, White has a booted gimp and the Auvales are down to three.
The sandbags are 10kg each, apparently. Sam’s struggling from the off but it looks like they only have one backpack each, so they’ll get a break between runs at least.
Jofres take an early lead, of course. Sam’s in second place for a few levels but Moses is right behind her and she lets him past on a landing. Moses does encourage her to keep going as he moves past though, which is good to see.
Sam says her legs are hurting the most, it feels like she’s got cement all over her.
Sam the fireman says climbing stairs with weight on your back is hard. It might not be too hard the first time but on later runs it will be really hard. Thanks for the insight there, Sam. Very helpful. At least we got to see Fiona look adorable again.
They do seem to have restricted the teams as Tony and Daniel are the only ones lined up, Tenealle and Moses for the Auvales and of course Sam and Cliff for the Hailwoods.
At one point Sam is passed on the way up by a Jofre, who then dumps their bag and comes back down and his replacement passes her again on the way up. They’re absolutely smashing it, she says it’s like they’re not even overweight and do this every day.
The Jofres are done first, naturally. If the last round is another physical challenge you’ll know the fix is in!
Auvales and Hailwoods continue lugging their bags. Both teams are finding it a hard slog at this point but both are determined to win.
Tenealle’s taking the last bag for her team up the stairs. Moses was going to do it but Tenealle’s bursting to go.
Sam’s trying to catch up to Tenealle for the final run but both ladies are clearly knackered. Who’s going to come out at the top of the tower and wave their flag… It’s Tenealle with the Auvales flag!
So it’s the Auvale-Jofre alliance in the final round. Oh dear, the Pestells and Hailwoods are so doomed!
The final challenge will be in the ship’s hold, a simulated fire zone filled with smoke, Sam the fireman says. Fire, smoke and it will be incredibly tough, Fiona tells them all.
Sunday night we find out if they can go through with it and if so, who’ll win.
Then it’s time for the weigh in and the ensuing drama. Johnee’s sure he’ll be safe at the weigh in, but there might be some backstabbing? Tenealle says something about a dog move. But then there’s a beach challenge and it looks like everyone’s still there? Not sure who’s missing. Maybe there won’t be an elimination?
And Jodie’s going to complain some more about having to train to lose weight. She doesn’t like any of the training, she tells Shannan when asked what she’d like to do.
… and we can’t even hope the Pestells fall below the line because Ali and Jodie will just make Mel go up. Because they’re fucking horrible people.
Maybe. Tune in Sunday night, I guess.
