TBL 10×11 – It’s All About The Game, And How You Play It
Previously on The Biggest Loser a tumble at the weekly challenge saw Sylvia off to hospital for some torn ligaments. Fortunately she can continue in the competition, though she’ll be in a boot for a few weeks and restricted to primarily upper body workouts.
At the weigh in the trainers were the ones getting snippy with each other for a change as the alliances between the teams aren’t sitting well with Shannan and Tiffiny – they’re on the wrong side of the balance sheet, so of course they’re not happy.
Tonight we find out whether the Auvales and Jofres will vote to send Kayla from the Hailwoods or Mel from the Pestells home. The Auvales have been telling us they’re determined to wipe out the white team but Kayla’s sob story on the scales may save her bacon. The Jofres have four votes, after all, while the Auvales only have three.
Later, recriminations! Why did they send someone home, they’re such awful people for doing what they’re supposed to do because it’s a competition.
Then we’ll catch up with an eliminated contestant’s “amazing transformation”. The intro only shows her lower half but it looks too big to be Kayla so unless she packed on weight while she was gone, it’s Mel going home? Hmm. Might be deceptively edited, we’ll see.
Let’s find out! The contestants are trundling into the elimination room to say hi to Fiona and find out who’s going to face the music this time.
It’s supposed to be the same night but Fiona is in a different outfit. Is it actually a different day or is this because Fiona’s a fancypants model and she can’t be seen in the same outfit twice?
Anyway, Kayla and Mel are here now and one of them will be leaving tonight. Kayla says Sam wasn’t going to put herself up but Kayla refused her offer, saying Sam has to go back to being a full time Mum if she returns home while Kayla will just have to focus on losing weight with the support of her Mum and Dad.
Kayla feels like she’s making progress at Camp so she’s not ready to go home. Her partner dying knocked her down but she’s starting to get back up again.
So why’s Mel there? She wanted to put herself up. Ali and Jodie were pushing her into it in the elimination room, we see, telling her to draw on their friendships with the other teams. Mel wants to stay and get healthy and find love eventually. She’s a lot like Pablo in that way, she says. Pablo smiles and nods. Mel’s lonely on the outside, even though she goes to work she doesn’t socialise much. She’s found some friends in her time on the show though, she thinks.
Has she really? Will they protect her or will they have an attack of the feels and keep Kayla?
First to vote is Rob. He says he didn’t expect either girl to be up, they’re the most vulnerable girls on the teams, they should have chosen better. Rob says he unfortunately has to vote for Kayla and I think he might actually feel bad about it.
Daniel’s next. He’s voting with his head, not just his heart. He’s voted for Kayla as well.
Tony’s voting strategically, choosing to send Kayla home because she’s the bedrock of the Hailwood team.
One more vote for Kayla and she’s gone.
Pablo votes with his heart, but his heart is torn today. But one of them will be stronger on the outside so he’s voted for Kayla.
Well, there you go then.
Kayla’s not surprised, she knows it’d make no sense to bring blue down to two members and leave the Hailwoods as four. She knows it’s important to get your own family as far as possible.
Kayla feels stronger than when she came to Camp. She feels ready to take on the challenge on the outside. Rob tells her they’re all thinking of her now too.
In the lounge afterwards there’s little doubt about who’ll be sent home. Everyone seems to realise it’ll be Kayla since it’s a numbers game.
Mel is, of course, the one to come back, which is a relief to the Pestells though Jodie says they’re feeling bad for the Hailwoods all the same.
Rob’s angry with the Hailwoods, badgering them about why they’d put Kayla up. She’s the backbone of their family, wrong choice, blah blah. It was Kayla’s idea though and she’s stubborn, Sylvia says, so there would have been no changing her mind.
Jodie points out it’s nothing to do with the Jofres, it’s not their call who goes up, they just have to write a name down. It’s not just writing a name down, Rob insists. Would she prefer Mel go home? No! But it’s not right the Jofres come back with an attitude from the elimination room, they’re not the ones below the line making a sacrifice.
“So work harder!” Hah. Yes, to be fair that would help. It’s also really helpful to be a team of four men. You lose a lot more weight on average, for longer and you can win a lot more challenges, so you can give weight penalties to other teams.
And then you make an alliance with the only other team that has two men, including the heaviest man on the show this season. Maybe don’t be jerks about everything?
After the ad break they’re still at it. Rob’s telling them to work harder and Jodie says they do work hard, etc.
Sylvia finally speaks up and says that someone has to go home every week and it’s going to break someone’s heart every time. There’s no point yelling and screaming about it, makes no difference, just face it as a team and get on with it. Or they’ll all go home, friendless, back to the lives they had before that got them where they are now.
Pablo says it’s time to let them process it. G’night!
Tony tells us he doesn’t feel sorry for Kayla, they’re just doing what they need to do to win.
The next day at training Sam is very angry, still. She says Kayla could have got up there and said she had terminal cancer and they still would have voted her out.
Um. If it’s terminal cancer she wouldn’t be on the show. Just stay home and eat and enjoy what time you’ve got left!
Sam says she feels like they’ve lost so much this year. Tiff says it’s time for less tears, more sweat, it’s all you can do. They went under the line because they didn’t do everything they could last week. Time to go train and make her sacrifice worthwhile.
No excuses out of their mouths today, just “I love this!” Cliff says it’s the first day of the rest of the competition. Push the reset button!
Cliff is very enthusiastic about saying he loves this so Tiff is making him the leader this week, he’s their motivator, has to step up and look after the girls. He’s like Hercules, Tiff says, he’s so strong. A few years ago he even represented Australia in gridiron. I bet you didn’t even know we had a national team.
Anyway, Cliff wants to get fit and take a role on the field again. He needs to be really fit for that though, like all the other guys.
So today they’re doing some football drills in the gym, Tiff wants him back on the football field.
Lots of jogging/jiggling on the spot then hitting the deck and get back up and jiggle some more. Make grimace faces. Do more jiggling. Down again. You love this, Cliff! So much!
Cliff has trouble getting up one time, but he gets up and then staggers towards a bucket and barfs quite violently. Tiff worries she’s pushed him a bit too hard. Barfing in her dojo? No no!
Can’t tell if Sylvia’s laughing or disgusted. But she’s on a spinbike. Good sign for her ankle if she can manage that I suppose?
Tiff’s pleased by how far Cliff pushed himself. He needs to keep that up all week, he’s the leader! Tiff thanks him for not giving in and Cliff says, again, that he loves it.
Sam was really angry before, but she’s feeling a lot better after the session. Tiff points out how good working out is for them and they’re all so happy they give her a big group hug while Tiff acts disgusted. Sweat and spew, ewww! She sends them all off to get cleaned up.
The Pestells are in one of the gyms with treadmills again. Jodie’s scared of getting on them because she fell off once, but he knows she can do it. Jodie thinks the treadmill is not her friend. If you’re not going to do the treadmill you’ll be doing a lot of walking around outside… which is probably preferable, treadmills are pretty boring.
But Shannan insists she can do this and if she wants to make progress she has to get back on the treadmill. Jodie doesn’t like it and she doesn’t do things she doesn’t like.
Shannan tries to nudge her feet onto the treadmill but she’s having none of it. Shannan says it’s essential she runs to get her weight down, it’s important, she needs to do it even if she doesn’t want to do it.
Ali’s getting annoyed with Jodie’s reluctance to get on the treadmill and get on with it. Ali’s hollering at her to start because Ali has to keep going until Jodie starts.
It goes round in circles like that for a while. Get on the damn treadmill!
Shannan gets on the treadmill behind her, which is enough of a boost in confidence for Jodie to get on and get started at last. Which makes her realise she can, in fact, get on the treadmill. And run, even if she doesn’t like it. And she’s happy when it’s over and she doesn’t have to do it again. Shannan says no, it’s done for now. They’re going to have to do it many, many more times.
Jodie’s finally coming around and realises she has to keep at it or go home to the same life she left.
And now it’s time for The Game! Which is a big board game today and it involves brains in some fashion, Sam tells us, which means the other teams have a chance at winning over the Jofres.
There’s also an element of fitness and… stuff. Make it around the board once to get a key for your family, first family to get two keys will win. The keys open the case and the case contains some mystery power.
Jofres go first and they roll the huge die that I very much want one of, landing on a Q&A square. Which has the highest vitamin c content? Hot chillies, oranges or strawberries? Brains are the Jofre strong point. They go for oranges, which Pablo was pretty certain was the wrong answer. He thought it was chillies, which is the correct answer. Dummies!
Pestells next. They land on a food square. It’s a banana! Win another roll of the dice by eating a 99 calorie banana. Easy. Of course they did it.
Next up they land on another food square, this one is a hotdog. 528 calories and it doesn’t look like it’s too warm. The cheese hasn’t melted at all. Jodie and Ali are trying to tell Mel she has to eat it but Mel is saying no. Good girl, Mel!
After an ad break Jodie decides she’ll eat it to try and get them further into the game. Jodie’s really happy to be eating the hotdog, it tastes so good, especially with all the other teams having to just watch.
Another roll and they land on a blank space, which means their turn is over. They’re halfway around the board now, Tenealle says but Johnee points out they’ve eaten 600 calories to do it.
Next up, Hailwoods. They also land on the Q&A square. Which has the highest fat content? 1 tbsp of butter, 1 tbsp of margarine or 1 tbsp of olive oil. Olive oil? Correct. How many calories are in 1 gram of protein? 4, 8 or 16? 4! Correct again. Their next roll gets them onto the same spot as the Pestells, giving control to the Auvales.
The Auvales roll and get… a 1. Which is a blank square. So they’ve not done so well.
The Jofres get to roll again now, getting a 1 which lands them on a power play square. It lets them force a team to skip their next turn. After a short debate they decide to screw the Pestells over this time.
So it’s Hailwoods again. They roll and land on a 20 pushups square. They have a time limit of 40 seconds. Sam smashes them out in 19 seconds. Easy!
Next roll, food square. A big chocolate donut, 206 calories. Gunna eat it, Fiona wonders? Of course Cliff’s going to eat it.
Roll again and they get a six, getting them to the end of the course and a key and a blank square. Auvale’s turn.
They land on the hotdog square. Johnee’s not letting Moses or Tenealle take part, Temptation’s not on the plans for them anymore and the Commando will kill them. So they’re passing.
Jofres then roll a 6, landing them on a roll again square. Then a little bowl of almonds to eat. Then another roll gets them past the Hailwoods, all in one turn.
But they land on the Q&A square again. Which contains the least calories? A cup of strawberries, blueberries or raspberries? They guess blueberries. But it’s strawberries. Oh dear.
Pestell turn again. Jodie thinks they might manage to keep up with the Jofres because they’re not very smart. Although let’s be fair, the Pestells are pretty fucking dumb as well.
As evidenced by them landing on a food square. It’s a cheesecake and Jodie’s laughing and saying Mel’s going to eat it. Come on, she’s got to be smarter than that. Don’t do it! Blueberry cheesecake, 333 calories.
Jodie’s egging her on and Mel finally says she’ll do it while the other teams laugh at her. Moses calls out that Shannan’s going to kill her, calls it out repeatedly.
Nobody even knows what the power is yet, but most of the teams are eating. The Auvales are unimpressed.
Pestells are still rolling along. Another couple of rolls and they land on a Q&A square. What percentage of Australia’s adult population is overweight? 53%, 63% or 73%? They go for 73% but the answer is 63%. Either way that’s an awful statistic!
Hailwoods land on a 20 burpees square and they’re all bad at them, Sam says. Sam and Cliff have a little discussion about who’ll do it, they only have 60 seconds to complete them. Cliff decides to do it but he’s doing rubbish ones, not getting down onto the ground. The other teams are unimpressed and even Fiona’s making faces. In the end it doesn’t matter anyway because he doesn’t get to 20 before the 60 seconds are up.
The Auvales have their turn, get a key but land on a blank space.
Jofres turn, but it’s another Q&A square just 3 squares away from the end. How many teaspoons in a 375ml can of cola? 10, 12 or 9? Rob throws his hands up and says 10, which is correct. Roll again. Three or more will win them the game.
And they’ve rolled a four. So they’ve won yet again. Given they got to go first it’s not really that surprising. Sure, there’s an element of chance involved, but anyway…
Both Blue and White are pretty over the Red team winning everything every week.
Time to see what’s in the briefcase. We probably won’t find out until tomorrow night though?
There’s discs in the case with the team names on them. Want to know what they do?
Tune in tomorrow night to find out if all this drama was worth it, I guess?
Twelve weeks later Kayla’s training hard and looking way skinnier. She’s enjoying going out with friends again and is training at least 3 times a day. And she’s enjoying the training, which is an odd thing to say, she knows.
Kayla’s watching her audition and first weigh in videos and she’s shocked at how unhappy she looked. She really does look a lot happier, twelve weeks on.
She was in a size 20-22 before coming to Camp Biggest Loser and is now down to about a 12. She’s lost 27kg, which is quite good as well.
Tomorrow night, more training. And another Pestell blowup threatens to derail them entirely. Shannan’s getting pretty frustrated, he’s not sure what else he can do.
And then, FIREMAN SAM! Past contestant Sam will be helping to put the new crop of contestants through their paces in some fire and rescue drills. The girls are all pretty pleased since Sam is a bit of a spunk these days!
