TBL 10×05 – Elimination Beckons For Pestells and Auvales
Previously on The Biggest Loser the old weightloss record was smashed at the first competitive weigh in for the year. Johnee lost over 17kg in a week, which is pretty awesome but also kind of ridiculous.
Tonight the Pestells and Auvales have to send one person each into the elimination room to face the Hailwoods and Jofres. Who’ll they send, who’ll get sent home, who’ll get very angry about it even though it’s part of “the game” every year?
Later, a new challenge. There seems to be some foodstuffs and questions involved.
But first, into the elimination room for the very first time this year!
Into the room walks Terry from the Pestells and Moses from the Auvales, an outcome most probably expected. Moses will do fine on the outside, he’s not one of the biggest men and seems reasonably fit for his size. Terry, of course, could hardly put one of his much larger daughters up for elimination.
None of the people at the table seem surprised to see them but it’s still going to be hard to vote one or the other out. Tony says both of them did the right thing in stepping up for their respective families.
Moses is the “chief” of his family, everyone keeps telling us. They’re Samoan, you know.
Moses says he needs to stay so he can learn all the dietary stuff, he only just learned what a calorie is, usually he just puts food in his mouth. He needs to know all that stuff before he goes home so he can teach the kids and the rest of the family.
Terry’s nervous about leaving his daughters tonight, isn’t sure how they’ll go without him. He told his daughters that he thought he had the best chance of convincing the other teams not to vote for him. Realistically, he’s probably a smarter bet to vote for since Blue will collapse without him where the Auvales will still have Johnee to pull them through on the numbers.
Terry pitches the Auvale family falling apart without Moses, which seems a bit harsh to go the dig so soon. Moses doesn’t rise to the bait and just says he’s worried about his wife if he does leave.
There’s eight votes in play tonight so a tied vote is possible and the loser will be the one with the lowest FAMILY weight loss percentage, rather than individual. This means Terry will be the one sent home in the event of a tie. So if one team votes for Terry then the other team’s votes won’t matter!
Sam from the Hailwoods is first up. She says it was a hard decision, voted with head and heart, the person she’s voted for is strong enough to do it on the outside while the other needs to stay for the good of their family. So she’s voted for Terry? That logic does not match.
Sylvia next. She admires the person she’s voting for but she thinks they can make it on the outside so she’s voted for Terry as well. Are the Hailwoods on crack?
Kayla’s next. Hard decision, blah blah, voted for Terry as well. It’s looking really bad for Terry, huh? One more vote from the five remaining means he goes home.
Cliff’s last of the Hailwoods. He says they both came for the right reasons, to support their families, but he had to make a choice and he’s chosen Terry as well. Poor Terry, four votes means he’s out.
Terry thinks his girls will be quite upset for a few days and maybe the others shouldn’t go too close to them. It’s not the other team’s fault, it’s just going to be hard on them. Fiona asks if he has a parting message and Terry says he’ll tell Moses and Moses laughs and says it’s not his fault, after all.
And thus Terry is the first out the door this year and they managed it all without chucking an unnecessary ad break in there!
Terry’s very proud of his family, they’ve worked hard and come together as a team. He says the girls will work out extra hard now he’s gone to try and smash the other teams. Seems unlikely, seems more likely they’ll have a sook and turn on each other again!
After the ad break the Hailwoods and Jofres head to the lounge to reveal the result of the elimination. Both Pestells and Auvales are very nervous, they were getting friendly so either way they’re going to be missing someone important.
Pestells are telling Rina she can do it by herself, not having Moses there won’t be so bad, they’ll have the other teams around them. Heh. They’re not going to be haaaappy.
Moses is, of course, the one to return. Rina’s not sure whether to jump up in excitement, be very openly happy, but it’s hard to do that in front of the Pestells.
Johnee thanks everyone for keeping Moses there as Rina would have cried every day otherwise.
Then the big question. How’d everyone vote? Oh, don’t ask, just move on.
Only four votes needed to be cast, the Hailwoods all voted Terry and that was it. Cliff tries to reassure them there was no malice to it, it just was a decision that had to be made. Terry was adamant they’d do well without him, Cliff tells them.
The Pestells are having none of it, don’t want hugs from anyone. The other teams file out of the lounge and the bitching commences! The Pestells say the Hailwoods were disrespectful from the start, arrogant and stupid. They could have got rid of one of the members of one of the strongest teams and wrecked them.
Next day the trainers arrive to find out who got the punt. Red, White and Black are out training or enjoying some sunshine and Blue… is in the kitchen!
Shannan’s doing his scan to look for all his people and eventually realises he’s lost someone in the first week. The girls tell him that Terry put himself up and Shannan isn’t surprised.
Commando Steve isn’t surprised Moses put himself up and is very relieved he didn’t go home. He says Moses and Rina are joined at the hip.
Shannan tells the whole group that they’ve survived the first week, the toughest week. Training will get tougher but they’ll get fitter and stronger and eventually it’ll become fun. Eliminations are never fun, weigh ins can be fun if you’ve done the hard work, but for now there’s only one thing they can do – train!
Tiffiny’s team lost the least amount of weight so she’s going to teach them some intensity for training on their own. She wants a perfect week out of them.
Sylvia thought last week’s training sessions were intense but Tiff’s brought it to a whole new level. Including climbing on Cliff’s back for laps around the gym!
The Auvales are out doing some yard work for Commando Steve. Wheelbarrows carting sandbags around, metal poles being aerated above contestant heads, ploughing a furrow in the grass… okay, it’s just a dragging sledge, not a plough.
Jofres are doing workouts on the rowing machines and airing out some of the indoor bars. They’d been living at home with their Mum, no accountability or responsibility, eating like children, but now they’re wanting to make the change and give her 100% in training. They’re a perfect mix, Mish tells them. Strong, athletic, big metabolisms, good headspace. They really want it and it sets them apart from the other teams.
Poor Shannan has his grouchy girls. Shannan asks them all how they’re feeling and they’re mostly giving answers like “alright” and “okay” so Shannan keeps asking them and saying no they’re not! It’s okay to speak freely. They finally admit they’re angry and frustrated. Shannan’s getting them to work out with the boxing mitts to work out some of that aggression. Shannan thinks Ali’s got what it takes to be the new leader. Ali reckons she already was, having taken over from Jodie. Ali is a bit up herself. Ali has been horrible to her sisters since the show started!
Ali’s worried that her daughter Tilly will end up like her or that Ali will die and leave Tilly alone because Ali’s all Tilly has.
Shannan’s girls are going to have to fight to stay in the house, they’re his fighters now. Blue for life!
Now it’s night time and everyone’s waddling out to the sandpit. It’s a bit cold and there’s all kinds of flames about the place and bits of equipment. And Princess Fiona! Who is there to tell them they’re there to play The Game. It has capitals because it is a New Thing that they apparently Couldn’t Unequivocally Name Terrifically.
It’s a way for each team to gain a new power and each week they’ll compete to claim the title. And it’ll turn the competition on its head, of course.
This week they’re playing for… an ad break!
Actually they’re playing for a briefcase. What’s in the briefcase? Ali thinks maybe there’s a gun in it, to take out another team member. Yeah, you’re fucking sick in the head.
There’s three gates to get through in The Game. The first gate you have to order some foods from lowest to highest calories. The next gate has a “mind bending puzzle” to complete. It’s two images of keys on square blocks.
And round three they need to construct a pole to reach the final key to open the final gate. Their building materials seem to be pool noodles and other odds and ends.
Each gate they go past they’ll have to leave one team member behind, except for the Pestells who won’t have to leave anyone behind at the first gate as they only have 3 people.
Ready, steady, go!
The foodstuffs are cheddar, potato chips, chocolate, salmon, black forest cake and chicken nuggets. Oooh, I could go for some chicken nuggets right now. Mmmm.
The Hailwoods are confident because Tiff has been teaching them a lot of calorie stuff.
The Pestells and Auvales are sad because they can’t eat the things. The Auvales cake tips over and Moses rights it, getting some cake on his fingers, which he licks off. Hope Steve doesn’t see that!
The cheddar apparently has 100 calories, the potato chips have 150 calories. The chocolate is 250 calories. Nuggets 300 calories. Cake 400 calories. And the salmon actually has 500 calories. The Hailwoods are the first to ask for a check but they’ve got the salmon on the lowest calories which is very wrong. It’s a big chunk of salmon, silly buggers!
Pestells ask for a check next but are also wrong. Hailwoods reorganise but still have the salmon way up the low calorie end so they’re out of luck again. As are the Pestells for their second attempt. Jofres are wrong for their first shown attempt but quickly fix it and are the first through their gate.
But the Hailwoods have finally realised the salmon chunk is huge and are off to the gate. Cliff is in such a rush to undo the big chunky chain that he whips it over Kayla’s knuckles. Fortunately she was fine, just in a bit of pain.
Now it’s time for the puzzle. The Auvales are just getting past the first gate and the Pestells are hopelessly lost, with the salmon still well lower in the order than the cake, among other mistakes.
The puzzle has the border done already so it’s just filling in the middle bits. Lots of strategies being suggested but nobody is doing very well. The Pestells might still be in it… check in with Fiona again and… nope! The salmon has moved further to the low end!
Fiona hovers over them while they fiddle away with their ordering and they randomly guess at what needs swapping and when they swap nuggets and salmon Fiona immediately says YES without waiting them to ask for a check so I guess they’d been there quite a lot longer than the other teams…
But it’s okay, the Jofres have only just realised they have another bucket full of pieces. After messing up their border. They’re a bit doomed.
The Pestells are finally up to the puzzle but all three look knackered. They haven’t done anything yet! They’re confident though, they’ve done puzzles before!
The Hailwoods open the box full of building supplies and it looks like they raided the house for cooking implements, a pool scoop, some pool noodles, a paper cup and so on. It actually looks like a lot of fun, just maybe not when you’re under time constraints?
They’re strapping together bits and pieces of the strongest materials they can find, but it’s still looking far too short to reach the key beyond the fence.
The Auvales are next to finish their puzzle. The Pestells are likely ahead of the Jofres, but they’re descending to bickering as usual, as Mel seems to be “giving directions” rather than shuffling pieces around. Ali’s getting annoyed, but Mel seems to have the right idea, standing back and thinking about it instead of just haphazardly messing about with them.
The Hailwoods make their first attempt at reaching their key but it’s about a metre short. Adding another couple of pieces causes it to bend in the middle, so still no good!
Moses puts his faith in Johnee to build a fishing rod out of the bits and pieces. Johnee’s just trying to tie as many things together as possible, but they’ve found their pool noodle while the Hailwoods have forgotten all about their one. They finally pick theirs up and make much better progress towards the key once more. But they’re getting a bit short with each other now. They’ve had much longer and the Auvales have made almost immediately better progress.
And after not much longer, Johnee manages to flick the key off the hook and onto the ground instead of his net, but they work and drag it across the ground, unlock their chain and are the winners of the first The Game, much to their excitement. Even though they still don’t know what’s in the box!
After The Game is over, the Pestells are returning to chipping away at each other. Ali immediately starts blaming Mel for not doing enough during the puzzle, instead of acknowledging they all screwed up with the calories challenge.
Mel says they blame her for everything and Jodie says she’s got to participate, help the team. They don’t blame her for everything. Yeah, doesn’t sound like it when you scream at her all the time, not at all!
Mel’s given up talking to them while Ali and Jodie continue needling at her. They have to be a team, they have to work together and Mel has to step up. Mel’s having none of it, says it’s always two against one. The two ask her how it’s two against one. Helloooo. Ali asks if she was working for the other team and Mel says she may as well have, it might have gone better?
Ali tells us in a side bit that they didn’t really resolve the argument with Mel because she just shut down and so they don’t know what she’s thinking. Cut to Mel, by herself, with her back to the cameras, sniffling away. If they don’t knock this shit off they’ll be down to two next week!
The Auvales now get to see their prize. And they’re the only one that will get to see what’s in the box, the other teams have to go inside and then Tenealle is left with just Fiona. I assume she’ll be allowed to tell her teammates thereafter but for now, what’s in the boxxxxxxx?
The contents of the case have the power to change her life and possibly the contest and blah blah, power!
Tenealle opens the briefcase and says “Oh my goodness!” And that’s all we see because it’s time for a catchup with Terry, who has lost 8.6kg since leaving the house 6 weeks ago.
Terry’s going to the gym seven times a week, personal training two times a week, he’s walked 20km three times in the last week and he’s generally feeling a lot better about his lifestyle now.
Audition tape time! They were huge… a week or so ago. Amazing.
Tomorrow night, what’s the power? It glows and sparkles when Tenealle reveals it to the rest of the teams.
Then Dr Swan is back for more Bio Age horror stories. Also they’ll load Tiffiny up with all the extra weight some of her team is carrying. Poor girl.
And then… PIGS. IN. MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD! Another four way tug of war to grab flags, with some “dirty tactics” emerging. Like there’s any other kind when it comes to the pigs in mud challenges!
