9×23 – Returning Contestants, FIGHT!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Rodger, Caitlin, Mary and Cal won weigh in passes for this week’s chance at getting back into the house. Then Mary flaked out during the challenge that would have won her and Cal an advantage at the weigh in.

Tonight! Weigh in drama, everyone’s in danger of going home, who will survive, ooh!

But first, Kev, Toni, Sharon and Jane are having a chat about the impending weigh in. Jane tells us she’d be very upset if a red team member knocks out one of the remaining contestants. Sharon just says it’s game on, the returnees had better show they mean business.

Kev points out the trainers say to control the controllables and they control the votes. But we see nothing more of that conversation, just Sharon saying it’s time to train.

Shannan’s group of people for training is Sharon, Jane, Katrina, Toni, Craig and Kerry. It’s a bit of a negative mindset today, Shannan says, people saying it’s unfair they get to come back. Shannan asks us for the tiny violin. Life’s not fair! You have to keep fighting. His focus today is getting them as light as they possibly can be before the weigh in.

Toni’s the most upset, saying she felt like giving up. They’d been on such a high and then the returnees came, what do they want? To lose weight, Toni. Der.

Toni struggles with letting go of control of things but Shannan wants her to learn how to let things go. She can’t control the returnees coming back, just work hard and send them right back home.

Life gives you stuff you can’t control, what you can control is how you react to it.

Mish is back!!! Mish has her team in the gym and three are looking pumped but Mary is decidedly not pumped. She didn’t do well in the challenge, it got in her head from the start. She feels like a failure, feels like she failed her teammates. Mish asks her how she’s going to move forward and Mary has no plan for going forward. So Michelle’s going to help her get past some of the demons in her life.

Last chance training time, you can do a lot in one session, Mish says. Two of them will be going home after the weigh in, no matter what happens.

Mish is encouraging them all to push up half a kilometre an hour faster.

Mary’s not been in a team situation before, so she feels like she’s letting the team down like she does every time. Rodger reminds her it doesn’t matter if you don’t win, what matters is you finish. Mish says it’s important everyone in the team feels supported and encouraged and you’ve just got to suck it up and move forward together.

Mary tells Mish she was in a great frame of mind before the challenge. Mish thinks she has a problem with worrying too much about what everyone else thinks of her. Not everyone’s going to like you! She calls out to Cal and he chirpily replies he’s probably the most hated person in the house right now! Mary just wants everyone to like her, she doesn’t want to be hated. Michelle’s trying to convince her that it’s okay if some people do, you can’t keep everyone happy, not everyone will be happy with your choices, that’s just the way it is.

Mish says it’s also a good lesson for Caitlin at such a young age. Not everyone’s going to like you! If you care too much what everyone thinks of you, Mary’s the result. Mary says it’s not a bad thing, wanting people to like you. But Mish says it doesn’t work. Mary tries not to let it get to her, but it does.

Mish then says that she’ll like Mary a lot if she can push really hard in training now. Mary starts putting in the hard yards, finally!

Time for the weigh in. Caitlin’s worried she’ll be straight back out. Sharon’s also worried that one of the existing contestants might be sent home too.

But first, Katrina has the golden immunity bracelet. Will she be playing it today? Nope! She’s not sure she ever wants to use it because while it will save her, it might push someone else below the line and she’d be sad about that. Pffft.

First they’re starting with the surviving contestants. They’re all weighing in on one scoreboard too. Not sure how this is going to work.

Kevin’s weighing in first, after putting on 0.6kg last week. He promises he’s worked hard this week and has stuck to Shannan’s nutrition plan 100%, as he had promised Shannan. Shannan’s concerned as it’s both their heads on the chopping block if Kev still gets a poor result.

Kevin Previous: 173.9kg
Kevin Now: 170kg
Kevin Loss: 3.9kg
Kevin Percentage: 2.24%

Kevin (and Shannan!) both seem quite pleased with that result. Kev says he doesn’t ever want to see a gain on his number so he’ll be sticking to Shannan’s nutrition plan from now on.

Craig Previous: 152.8kg
Craig Now: 147.4kg
Craig Loss: 5.4kg
Craig Percentage: 3.53%

He was another one of the contestants who had slacked off last week. Steve says it’s amazing the difference when you knuckle down and do the work!

Toni Previous: 102.8kg
Toni Now: 100.5kg
Toni Loss: 2.3kg
Toni Percentage: 2.24%

Dead equal with Kevin, ooh!

Katrina Previous: 112.7kg
Katrina Now: 110.6kg
Katrina Loss: 2.1kg
Katrina Percentage: 1.86%

Katrina’s not too happy with her result. She’s worried she should have used the bracelet…

Kerry Previous: 112.1kg
Kerry Now: 108.9kg
Kerry Loss: 3.2kg
Kerry Percentage: 2.85%

Sharon Previous: 90.4kg
Sharon Now: 88.4kg
Sharon Loss: 2kg
Sharon Percentage: 2.21%

Sharon’s a bit worried too, she’s in fifth currently with only Jane to go from the existing contestants.

Jane Previous: 104kg
Jane Now: 98.3kg
Jane Loss: 5.7kg
Jane Percentage: 5.48%

Earns her a huge cheer and round of applause from everyone. She doesn’t usually pull big numbers so what changed this week? “I found my tingle.” HELLO. Cal pipes up with just that. Hayley’s scared to ask, but she does anyway. Shannan says you’ve got to work so hard you start to tingle and this week she finally managed that.

She’s very likely to be the biggest loser of the week with that result, unless someone like Cal can bump her off thanks to his gain last time.

Then Hayley drops another bit of information on the remaining contestants… they all have immunity today! Sneaky bugger, Hayley!

So the weigh in comes down to the four red team members. Whoever has the highest percentage gets straight back in. Whoever has the lowest percentage goes straight back home. The remaining two go to elimination where the remaining contestants decide who to send home. Very interesting way of doing it, very cool.

Cal’s a bit worried now because he’s been ruffling feathers in the house all week.

As Cal was last to leave he’s first to weigh in.

Cal Previous: 110.5kg
Cal Now: 108.3kg
Cal Loss: 2.2kg
Cal Percentage: 1.99%

He’s in seventh place for the week, having beaten Katrina. He’s safe for the moment regardless as nobody else has weighed in.

Cal wants another chance so he can be a better role model for his 3 year old son. Aww!

Michelle is dubious it will be enough against the other three people who want back in.

Caitlin would love a spot back in the house, having been home she knows what’s in front of her. Katrina tells us she wants to believe Caitlin but her answers always feel contrived, like she’s prepared them in advance. Or maybe she’s just an articulate young lady, not a bitter old hag?

Oops, I mean…

Caitlin needs 2.3kg to beat Cal and stay in the game.

Caitlin Previous: 113.7kg
Caitlin Now: 110.5kg
Caitlin Loss: 3.2kg (3.7kg after advantage)
Caitlin Percentage: 3.25%

So she won’t be sent straight home at least. Caitlin tells Hayley she had butterflies before weighing in, she was worried she wouldn’t get back in. There’s still things she has to learn in the house. Jane tells us she also thinks Caitlin says what she thinks people want to hear.

Mary needs at least 5.2kg to beat Caitlin and guarantee a shot in the elimination. She says she’s done her best, had a few obstacles on the way but she’s got back up and started again each new day.

Mary Previous: 159.3kg
Mary Now: 157.3kg
Mary Loss: 2kg
Mary Percentage: 1.26%

She gives herself a little clap. Not sure why, she couldn’t even beat Cal’s result. She’s proud of herself for losing 2kg and getting that much closer to her goal weight.

Rodger needs at least 3.6kg to get straight back into the game. He has a half kilo advantage so he does have a shot, but Mish says it’s a hard ask.

Rodger Previous: 110.2kg
Rodger Now: 106.3kg
Rodger Loss: 3.9kg (4.4kg after advantage)
Rodger Percentage: 3.99%

Wow, well done Rodger. Safe even without his advantage, amazing result. Rodger’s very happy and points at Michelle, saying it’s thanks to her.

Game on!

So Rodger’s first to get his black shirt. And biggest loser of the week honours do indeed go to Jane.

36.9kg in total which raises $18,450 for the town of Ararat. Nice effort. $86,770 in total now.

Mary’s at the bottom of the leaderboard, again, and going straight back home. Say goodbye to everyone and bugger off! Stop bothering us with your whinging!

Cal and Caitlin now face elimination/salvation. So Caitlin will be coming back into the game then, right? Surely they won’t bring Cal back over Caitlin. SURELY!

Cal isn’t really confident either. Caitlin thinks she was friends with some of the contestants before leaving and hopefully that still holds.

They get time for a chat before the vote. Cal sits with Craig and Kerry. Craig says he voted Cal out last time, why not do it again? Cal says Caitlin’s a good chance to win, so if you’re looking at threats she’s a big one. Plus it’d be another boy in the mix, the girls would then be outnumbered again since Rodger’s also come back in today.

But now it’s time for elimination room fun times!

Remaining contestants will be voting to bring someone back, not send someone home. It really amounts to the same thing though Hayley.

Kev says they’ve got some new temporary contestants, set up the chopping block already. Kerry points out they have no control over the chopping block, if they stay above the yellow line they can’t be touched.

Caitlin feels lucky to be back since she lost no weight in the week she was at home. She’s still a lot to learn, especially at 17. Kerry says she’s hiding behind the 17 thing a lot, there’s only so much that excuses, she has to start behaving like an adult. Has to start eating right and so on. Kerry wants her to be able to promise she’ll do better now. Caitlin knows what she needs to eat, she’s just struggling with the actual eating of it.

Katrina wants an honest answer out of the two on why they deserve a second chance. Cal’s keen to come back, he loves being in the house, loves the activities, loves it all. Caitlin wants to be there because she thinks it will… She chokes up and can’t go on, apologising to Hayley who says it’s alright.

After an ad break… Caitlin doesn’t want to get to the age the others are and find herself in the situation they’re in. She wants to change her life now while she’s still young.

First to get to five votes gets back in. If it’s a hung vote with 4 each then it will be highest percentage comes back in, which is Caitlin.

Katrina says it was a hard decision but Caitlin gave the right answer, you can’t wait another day, do it when you’re young and you’re set. She’s voted for Caitlin.

Kerry says he gave Caitlin a hard time there but she came up with the goods, so he’s voted for her too.

Sharon had no idea up till two seconds ago, but she saw some passion from the person she’s voted for tonight. She’s voted for Caitlin too. One more for Caitlin will get her back in.

But Craig thinks he’d do better without the distraction of Cal back in the house so he’s also voted for Caitlin.

Cal thinks his family will be stoked he’s coming home with $30,000. He says that he took it from a worthwhile cause and he’s putting it to a worthwhile cause. He came to be a better Dad for his kids, Hayley says through some tears. Cal’s still learning to do that, but he’s getting there. Hayley says he’s been one of the fittest and cheekiest contestants they’ve had and she’ll miss him. Awww!

Bye Cal! The doors are pull doors, not push. Silly.

Cal says it’s strange to be leaving the house again for the second time in two weeks. He’s worried Michelle’s going to pop out unexpectedly. She doesn’t!

4 weeks later… Wow, Cal’s looking even thinner in the face, he’s obviously still making progress. And he can chase his son around the park now! And he even loves exercising now. He knows he can get anything done now.

Mary’s also four weeks on and wearing way too much foundation on her face. I guess to hide the red cheeks? It looks bad. Anyway, she says she’s happier and healthier now and can even go out and feed the sheep for her husband now. I gather she wasn’t helping a lot in the past but she seems to be having a ball feeding all the sheeps and wandering across the meadows with her husband. She sees a personal trainer at the local YMCA. She holds up one of her old dresses and that’s really the first time I’ve realised how far she’s come. Her face hasn’t changed a lot, which can be a bit deceptive. Her body is actually quite a bit smaller!

Tomorrow night… MAKEOVER TIME!!! And a bunch of Ararat-folk are coming to Sydney to watch the fashion show at the end.

And the very first Biggest Loser proposal! Kevin’s finally going to ask his girlfriend to marry him. But will she say yes?

Probably. At least on camera. Better for ratings.
