9×19 – I want a water trike!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Cal won the title of the fittest contestants at Camp Biggest Loser.

Tonight the contestants will have to do a firewalk to prove… something or other. Mental toughness? All it really proves is you know how the trick works!

Then it’s time for another Biggest Loser triathlon. Fun!

Sharon’s feeling a bit sore and sorry for herself after the pyramid of power. Jane says a spa would be really nice and Sharon agrees.

But nope, the trainers have arrived so it’s time to train! Steve’s going to take those he hasn’t trained this season while Shannan takes the others. Steve is taking Kev and Katrina to “make sandcastles”, which has Katrina excited for a moment. Then Steve says they’ll be taking all the sand from one end to the other.

Shannan’s taking the rest of the contestants to a “real gym” today. Katrina notices the groups are uneven and looks a little nervous.

Katrina’s a bit nervous, she’s heard tales of the sandpit from the others. Steve tells us it’s outside of her comfort zone so being a bit nervous is to be expected.

Steve has Kev doing some rope flicking first, doing them alternating, then together, then do some circles. Kev flicks some sand up as he does it and it hits the cameraman, much to Steve’s amusement.

Steve’s encouraging Katrina by getting her to think about what Spanner would say to her during the workout. Cue montage of her sons kicking the footy around the back yard and Katrina being sad about having been in the background of their lives for so long. Katrina tells Steve that the boys have probably wanted a fitter Mum for a long time but they’ve been too nice to say anything. She’s been blocking all those thoughts out. Steve wants her to fight for that life she wants.

Katrina says going home frightens her, she still has too much self doubt, not enough guts and determination. She wants to go home, but not yet. Hasn’t achieved what she needed to.

Shannan’s thrilled to have all of Commando’s troops to train today. He’s had Cal for a while now, of course, so he asks which trainer is tougher. After some cajoling Cal says Commando Steve’s tougher, but Shannan’s the better trainer. Shannan howls and says he’s dead. Bwahaha!

Time for some fight gym stuff. Lots of punching the heavy bag, then some mitt work while the others are grinding away on the crosstrainers.

Shannan’s getting stuck in, saying Commando Steve’s muscles are all show, no go. Toni’s not learned any boxing with Commando and is worried she doesn’t have the coordination for it, but Shannan says she’ll learn. She’s a bit of a lame duck at it but Kerry’s doing a lot better, gritting his teeth and pounding away.

Shannan respects Kerry and Toni but he’s wondering how they got to such a bad place together.

Toni tells us they’ve been through a lot together. They spent about six years on IVF treatments, got pregnant twice. First one they lost after a few days, the other after three months. That was the end of it for them, it was too tough to deal with.

They’re clawing back control of their lives now, having lost their way a bit over the years.

And now it’s challenge time. Sharon’s butt still hurts. Really bad. She tells us a number of times. I guess it hurts!

Biggest Loser triathlon time! Three key elements. 1.5km sprint, 1km water trike race. Last two contestants will be knocked out. The final six will stand out on a floating platform each and balance for as long as they can. Looks to have coloured, progressively smaller planks to stand on.

Last contestant standing, wins. And what do they win? Something that could keep them safe to the very end of the competition…

It’s a golden immunity bracelet. Oooh?

Immunity that can be played at any time before a weigh in, any weigh in between now and the end of their time in the house.

Katrina says she immediately thought of Willy Wonka and the golden ticket and she wants that golden ticket.

Ready, steady, go!

Cal takes off and gets an early lead. He doesn’t go too hard, he tells us, because he knows he’ll be well ahead of the rest of the contestants. Jane, Katrina and Sharon are walking at a good pace, enough to keep ahead of Toni. Poor Craig and Kev are still hurting from the pyramid and both are walking along together, so it seems likely they’ll be last and eliminated before the balance section.

Cal’s first to the water trikes, quite a ways ahead of Kerry. Kerry’s not too worried, he just wants to make sure he gets in the final six. He’s having a bit of trouble getting into the trike but eventually manages it.

Cal sees how far behind Kerry is and realises he could ease off but decides to keep going hard and really rub his nose in it. Plus it’s a lovely day, birds are singing, bit of exercise he says as he’s pedalling away.

Kev and Craig are having a chat as they wander along. They figure they’ll be last but you never know what might happen on the trikes, they could catch up.

Toni’s having fun on her trike. Sharon’s hollering, saying she’s not going anywhere. Even going backwards a bit. Pedal faster, Sharon!

As Craig and Kev get back near the trikes they can see Toni and Sharon aren’t far into the water so Craig breaks into a trot and tries to get a bit of a head start on Kev. Kev just keeps trudging along.

Kev’s struggling to get his legs up high enough to get up and onto the chair of the trike, but gets up there eventually. Meanwhile Craig’s powering along and rapidly catching up to Toni, who’s stopped to try and help Sharon.

Craig used to be a BMX biker so he’s confident he can fight his way back into this. Craig easily gets past Toni, rounds the bend and heads for the pontoons. Toni’s speeding up a bit now she’s given up helping Sharon.

Jane and Katrina both claim their pontoons, too. Craig’s still chuffing along, thinking back on his bmx days and approaching the finish line with no energy left. Mental strength helps a lot!

Kevin and Sharon eventually get called back in as Toni grabs the last pontoon. Sharon wants one of the other girls to win now she’s out of it.

Time for the balance beam bit. They start out on one of the pontoon bits and a few of them are already wobbling a lot. Cal’s trying to do some trash talking but he’s wobbling a lot himself. Craig says he wishes he had his fishing rod so Cal asks him how he’d cast his rod and Craig does a very small casting motion.

Cal says he has a short attention span so he’s worried he’ll be out quick. To keep his interest he starts wobbling his platform back and forth to create some waves. No good, Jane’s coping with the extra motion just fine.

And now it’s time to move on to one of the smaller plank bits suspended between the pontoons. Green and wide first, then presumably the yellow thinner one followed by the very skinny red one, if anyone makes it that far I’ll be surprised!

First off and into the water is Jane! She’s making an ugly face which I thought was maybe because the water’s got a bit too much duck poo in it as there’s a lot of ducks swimming around them. But Toni says it’s because the water is really cold and so she doesn’t want to fall in just yet. But she’s having too much trouble maintaining her balance she has her hands on the pontoon, which was against the rules apparently and so she ends up off and into the water too.

Craig’s trying to shuffle across onto the green platform but can’t quite manage it, hopping off and into the water too. He’s a little disappointed but Cal’s hooting and hollering. Craig’s just happy Katrina’s still in there giving the boys a run for their money.

Cal’s asking Katrina what’s going through her mind now and Katrina says she has some bad thoughts in her head right now and Cal asks if they’re about him. Katrina denies it but tells us they totally were, she was mentally pushing him off the platform. She reckons she’ll beat him anyway though.

Cal says he’s getting bored and so Kerry tells him to jump off then. Cal’s having none of that, not wanting the others to win just because he gave up.

Cal keeps trying to chat to Katrina but Katrina says she’s in the zone and Cal’s not in her zone. Cal says she doesn’t need to be in the zone, he’s not in the zone and he’s still standing there! She’s hoping he’ll fall in very soon!

Then Cal swaps to asking Kerry questions. Kerry says Cal can ask questions if he wants, doesn’t mean he’ll answer!

Time to move to the yellow block. It’s too narrow for the boys’ feet to fit comfortably.

Katrina says she needs the immunity bracelet more than Cal.

Looking too easy, Hayley says. Time to move to the red block. It’s only 15cm wide and while Kerry manages to get onto it, he overbalances a little and he’s still a little front heavy so over he goes.

Just Katrina and Cal left. Cal’s looking very wobbly as we go to another bloody ad break…

Cal wobbles back and forth for a while, managing to keep his balance just barely for a lot longer than people thought he could… but eventually he’s off and into the water, giving the gold immunity bracelet to Katrina.

Time to go back to Camp. It’s been a big day for everyone but it’s not over yet. The contestants are called out in their tracksuits to the top oval in the dark of night. There’s some wood planks stacked up and the trainers are there to explain.

Time to test them mentally after all the physical tests this week.

Tonight… they’re going to walk on fire!

The firepit can reach temperatures up to 500 degrees, Steve says. It’s natural to want to stay away from fire, so it’s about committing to that first step.

So who’s afraid? Everyone!

Kerry and Toni are particularly edgy as they lost just about everything in a fire many years ago.

Cal says he’s as nervous as a “dog shitting razor blades”. He’s done a lot of stupid things in his life though.

They have a professional firewalker there to supervise, so it’ll be relatively safe.

After the fire has died down and the coals have been tamped down with a shovel it’s time for the firewalking. It’s a pretty short walk they’ve set up!

Toni’s going first. They lost their restaurant and house in a fire, including all their belongings and everything they’d inherited from their parents, all the sentimental stuff. Steve says she still has herself and still has her husband and Toni says yeah, she does!

Toni says it’ll be good to leave all the ill feelings about fire behind her. Finally she gets up the nerve to walk across. Unsurprisingly, she does it without injury.

As does everyone else but Cal. Cal’s still sitting there getting more and more nervous. Shannan says it’s the first time he’s seen a bit of fear in Cal’s face.

Cal tells us that unless he can get past the mental barrier he could hurt himself. Shannan tells him it’s time to show everyone what he’s made of, Shannan wants him to walk across and then walk back and eventually Cal does exactly that!

Tuesday on The Biggest Loser Australia… SOMEONE GAINS WEIGHT?! Seriously? And Shannan says it’s one of the worst results he’s ever seen. Steve says to someone, presumably the gainer, that if they’re still at Camp next week they’re going to wish they’d been sent home.

But will they even get home or will they be “eliminated” and immediately get their shot at coming back in with the other eliminees?

FIND OUT TUESDAY! Until then, have a good weekend.
