9×17 – Stuck too much in your mouth, huh?
Previously on The Biggest Loser the black team had to carry a 5kg golden nugget around until weigh in. Then the weekly challenge was a pun-tacular event with contestants having to chuck tires in the back of a trailer. And that made them very tired. Sigh.
Tonight it’s last chance training, where Cal will chuck a wobbly, then the weigh in where Steve will chuck a wobbly at someone, then it’ll be elimination times!
Shannan’s got his blue team in the gym for a chat before training. They’re all a bit tired and sore from the challenge and gutted they didn’t win. Shannon says they couldn’t do it because she couldn’t do it. Her, personally, not the team. She couldn’t move the log, she says, and Cal’s nodding along beside her. Dick!
Shannan reckons Shannon could move the log and it’s just a mind over matter thing. So what are they going to do to win the weigh in? Work really hard, Shannan. Of course!
Shannan’s got them something for a pick-me-up. It’s a video from Cam, telling them to keep going, etc. Cal’s not interested and walks out as the video starts, leaving Katrina, Shannon and Kev to watch the video on the ipad. Kevin doesn’t even know Cam but he’s still listening politely, yet Cal can’t be stuffed?
Shannan chases Cal out the door to find out what the problem is and Cal tells him to piss off, which Shannan says is not on, don’t speak to him like that.
Back in the gym and Shannon’s wandering off too. Katrina and Kev are left watching Cam’s message alone. Poor Kev, team’s falling apart around him.
So what’s got Cal all riled up? Cam would have done whatever it took for the team and others on the team aren’t making that same commitment, so he and Katrina have got to “bust their balls” to carry the others. Cal saw it when he was on black, people on the blue team were looking to quit back then and even now it’s still happening. So Cal’s gutted that people like Cam are busting to get back in while others are looking for a way out.
Now Shannan’s heard Cal he says they don’t roll over, they don’t give up and Cal says no, absolutely not. Back into the gym!
Cal and Shannan get back in the gym and the three contestants start training but Shannan finds out Shannon’s stormed out as well. So now he’s got to chase her down too.
Meanwhile black team’s out in the sandpit and Steve’s still happy he hasn’t really lost anyone from his team.
They’ve got some signs up on some posts with some of the excuses that used to hold them back printed on them. Toni says the “I’m too tired” one resonates with her, but now she makes sure to get to the spinbike and put her feet in the pedals so she can make a start.
Sharon never gets a break from her kids, but she’s got the time right now. Caitlin says it’s too hard and you don’t see the results, so you give up.
No more excuses, Steve says. Break some old habits! Commando Steve is happy he came to work today, he tells his contestants.
Craig says they’ve got the time here and Steve’s about to tell him you can find the time at home but Sharon’s breaking down, presumably over her kids again, so the rest of the team gets some more exercise orders while Steve takes her aside for a chat.
Meanwhile Shannan’s trying to chase Shannon down, he says he’s been battling mental demons in his team the entire season. Shannon did well in the challenge but she says she’s struggling to handle it any longer. It’s hard to be away from home and out of her usual environment. She’s tried to get a grip on it but it’s not getting any easier. Shannan says she’s made it past the halfway mark and Shannon says she’s proud of that.
Shannon had actually received some news from home, her daughter Eden was having her adenoids and tonsils out at the age of six and so Shannon’s upset she couldn’t be there to look after her. Bit more understandable when you know that bit!
Shannan offers her a pass out of this training session because she obviously needs it, but says he’ll be back to check in with her afterwards.
Shannan returns to the gym to find his team working out all by themselves. Kevin’s chugging away on the treadmill at a pretty good clip, which still amazes me.
But Shannan knows the odds are stacked against his team this week. They have a 2kg penalty and they’ve lost week after week. It’s going to be tough!
Sharon’s worried about going home, we find out in her chat with Steve. The excuse of not having enough time because of the kids would fly in the past but not anymore. Steve asks her if she’s made the changes in here and Sharon says yes. Steve then asks why she can’t make those some changes back at home and Sharon realises she totally could!
Sharon rejoins the training session for the last bits and at the end she takes the poster with the kids excuse on it, tears it up, digs a hole in the sandpit and buries it. Steve chuckles and says he thought she was digging a hole to throw up into.
After training Shannan returns to Shannon’s room to find her packing her bags. She’s decided she should go home because she’s a Mum, first and foremost. She says she knows what she needs to take with her to make her life better.
Shannan says he knew she was struggling but hadn’t realised it was every single day. He tells her not to think she’s letting him or the team down because he’s proud of the effort she’s put in.
Shannon tells us Shannan’s basically saved her life. Not enough thanks in the world for what he’s done.
Shannon then has to announce to the other contestants that she’s decided to go home because her daughter’s going in for an operation. Lots of understanding nods from some of the parents in the room.
Even Cal understands it now, saying that of course as a Mum she’ll want to be there for her daughter.
Katrina tells Shannon she has everyone’s support. Time to say goodbye and get home.
And now it’s time for the weigh in. Will they put the elimination off since Shannon’s left anyway? Hope not, hurry up and get to the pointy end!
Hayley asks how many more hits Shannan’s team can take and they all have a rueful chuckle, then Katrina says three! But Shannan’s confident his team can get it done, even with the 2kg weight penalty.
Black also had their 5kg gold nugget to hang on to all week though. Did they succeed?
NOPE! Kerry dropped it for 25 minutes. He was having a nap and had it next to him in bed and he left it fall off and continued sleeping.
Kerry’s not real happy with himself but they’ll just have to wear whatever penalty it is. Shannan’s looking quite chipper, obviously hoping it’ll be a weight penalty.
Hayley announces that if they’d succeeded in their task they’d’ve earned $5,000 for Ararat. And they’ve also incurred a 2kg weight penalty for the weigh in, bringing it back to even with blue.
And now first team to weigh in will be the black team! With Kerry first. Uhoh.
Kerry Previous: 118.8kg
Kerry Now: 115.4kg
Kerry Loss: 3.4kg
Not bad. He’s over 26kg total loss so far as well, which is a fair effort. Kerry says he’d like to think he can win, but Toni could win too if she starts to run properly. Hah!
Toni Previous: 107.1kg
Toni Now: 104.9
Toni Loss: 2.2kg
Toni’s not had a perfect week and she might possibly be starting to enjoy exercise. She’s still having a bit of trouble getting used to it. She used to be quite active when she was young but then started putting the weight on, particularly in her mid-30s. Part of the way she looks after Kerry is to cook for him, which is their downfall to some extent. She wants to come out of this a stronger person with better self discipline.
Steve thinks Toni can push herself a bit harder in training but she’s been very well focused on her diet so she’s still getting good results.
Jane Previous: 106.1kg
Jane Now: 104.6kg
Jane Loss: 1.5kg
Sharon Previous: 95.6kg
Sharon Now: 93.4kg
Sharon Loss: 2.2kg
Caitlin Previous: 116.8kg
Caitlin Now: 113.7kg
Caitlin Loss: 3.1kg
Caitlin’s still not a fan of the green foods but she’s got more energy now and can push a bit harder. She got a bit lazy in the middle of the week, she says. Kerry tells us her diet is actually deplorable and she doesn’t put in the effort. She could be in trouble if they don’t win the weigh in.
Craig Previous: 156.4kg
Craig Now: 154.5kg
Craig Loss: 1.9kg
Black Total: 14.3kg
Black Percentage: 2.04%
That’s not a big enough result from Craig. He thinks maybe he became a bit complacent after last week’s great result. Hayley asks if his diet changed, eaten a bit more? Craig admits to a bit more here and there, thinking he was training to a higher intensity so he needed more fuel. Apparently forgetting all that fuel is how he got so fat!
Steve says he slackened off in training and stuck too much in his mouth. He could fall off the wagon that easily back at home so he’s lucky he’s where he is right now. Or next thing you know Steve will go to Ararat and find Craig right back in the pub.
Blue need at least 8.4kg to stay safe. Shannan says he’s asked for something special from his team this week and they’ve all put in extra effort this week, so he hopes it’s enough. They can’t afford to lose another weigh in.
First up is Big Kev!
Kevin Previous: 177.2kg
Kevin Now: 173.3kg
Kevin Loss: 3.9kg
Pretty decent effort from the big fella. He says he’d been aiming for 5.5kg, but he’s happy with another almost 4kg off.
Katrina Previous: 117.1kg
Katrina Now: 114.3kg
Katrina Loss: 2.8kg
That’s 6.7kg so far, leaving a measly 1.7kg for Cal, which he really should manage. It’d be a bit appalling if he can’t this week.
Cal Previous: 114.5kg
Cal Now: 109.9kg
Cal Loss: 4.6kg
ROMPED!
Blue Total: 11.3kg
Blue Percentage: 2.76%
Safe, and would have been even with the penalty. Awesome stuff.
Cal’s very pleased by his result and Shannan said it’s a reflection of how hard he’s worked in the past week. Cal’s also the biggest loser of the week, unsurprisingly.
25.6kg total losses this week bringing the town kitty to $63,120.
So now black is below the yellow line for the very first time and will have to put two people up for sacrifice. Steve tells his team that whoever goes home has to keep up the effort at home and the rest of them really need to lift their game.
Now it’s finally blue’s turn to vote! Who’s facing the vote… Caitlin and Toni. Interesting choices, but I guess there’s really no good options there.
Cal is surprised at both nominations, thinking maybe Toni put herself up because she has the nutrition down and he can’t understand Caitlin being there at all because she lost a good number.
Toni says she put herself up because she feels like she’s the weakest in the team and thus she makes the team stronger by leaving. Caitlin put herself up because she hadn’t put in as much effort as everyone else and she didn’t think it would be fair to have someone else go up.
Cal agrees with Caitlin’s reasoning but doesn’t think Toni’s done the right thing. She’s the brains of the black team, has the nutrition worked out for them, it’s not just physical strength that matters, it’s mental strength. Katrina agrees, saying Toni’s underestimated how much she contributes.
Toni regrets putting herself up a bit now, she desperately wants to stay. Kerry’s not happy with her putting herself up, either. It’ll be hard to leave him behind, but they both know they’re there for a reason. They’re both getting healthier by the day.
Caitlin says she wants and needs to be there, she needs to lose all the weight and become a better person. She doesn’t want to be the fat one at the finale. She doesn’t want to go back to being the person she used to be.
Kev hopes Caitlin can keep it up on the outside, but from a tactical point of view she’s losing good numbers even with being a bit lazy and messing around with her nutrition too much.
Cal says from his tactical point of view maybe they could send Toni home and Kerry will unravel.
Time to vote. Only three voters tonight so this should not take long at all. First to two votes is eliminated and poor Kev is first.
Kev says one person helps everyone in the house and the other has youth on their side, it’s hard to play strategically.
He’s voted for Caitlin. One more vote and Caitlin gets the chop.
Cal says he’s got to thank Toni for her help in the first few weeks getting his nutrition sorted, but he has a daughter that’s only a year younger than Caitlin, so it’s hard there too.
It breaks his heart but he’s had to vote for Caitlin. Awwww, bye Caitlin!
Caitlin’s disappointed but she can understand why blue voted the way they did. Caitlin’s only regret this week is she should have trained harder. She’s not going to go back to the way she was. If she hadn’t come on the show she wouldn’t’ve changed anything. She’s not where she wants to be but she improves every day.
Time to say goodbye, Caitlin. Time to go get your butt kicked by Michelle! Could be interesting, given her numbers in the house with shitty nutrition and slacking off.
Caitlin says she’ll see them all again in Ararat. But she’s going home a changed woman, etc. Looking forward to finale and showing everyone she can do it.
Tomorrow night on Biggest Loser, Michelle has an Olympian on hand for a training session. Who is he? I don’t know, a cyclist of some kind I guess.
Also, NO MORE TEAMS! It’s time to move to singles. Every man for himself, no more excuses or carrying teammates.
Then it’s time for some crazy workout with weights and steps and I don’t know, lots of sweating and Big Kev might fall over again. It’s probably a challenge of some kind?
Find out tomorrow night! Or possibly Thursday night, if they’re playing silly buggers again!
