9×16 – I am so TIREd of these puns
Previously on The Biggest Loser the Ararat blue team won an advantage for the blue team at Camp Biggest Loser. Craig found a 5kg “gold nugget” the black team has to carry 24 hours a day until the weigh in.
Tonight Shannon’s going to make a breakthrough in training and then it’ll be time for the weekly challenge, this week that means lugging a bunch of tires and dumping them into a cage.
But first the trainers turn up to Camp to catch up with the champs. First on the agenda is the gold nugget explanation of course. Cal tries to grab the gold nugget away, half in jest, half seriously. Shannan approves!
Shannan’s come into the house carrying a newspaper and on the front page of the Ararat Advertiser is a picture of the blue team winning at their challenge. Cool! I guess.
Katrina reads the full story out aloud for the rest of the champs. They even call Katrina’s husband “Spanner” in the paper. Sharon’s amazed her husband was there, since he had to go by himself. She’s very proud. Shannon says her husband’s lost a lot of weight too.
Time to train! But on the way out Shannan tries to knock the gold nugget out of Craig’s hands. Shannan tells us it’s within the rules, would just be unlucky for the black team. Cheeky monkey!
Steve’s got his team in an indoor gym again. Their training session is based around their need to carry the gold nugget at all times. Caitlin doesn’t think it’s fair and they won’t be able to train to their full potential as a result.
The girls had to sleep with the nugget last night. We get a quick clip (that was probably faked up) of Jane passing off the nugget to Sharon while they’re supposed to be sleeping.
Steve doesn’t want them thinking about the nugget as a disadvantage. He wants them to think about who else they’re doing it all for, other than themselves. They’re doing for it for Ararat, too. They were chosen as champions and they feel they need to justify their selection. And maybe if Ararat can turn their town around maybe it’ll inspire another town.
Steve says in five weeks the black team has raised over $34,000 by themselves.
Craig’s goal this week is to lose 6.5kg, which will get him just under 150kg. And raise a bunch of money for the town, of course.
Craig’s got to work harder if he wants to lose that much. Craig knows it, too. Says he doesn’t care if he throws up or passes out, he’s going to get it done.
Kerry says they’re not the town champions yet, but when they get back they will be!
Shannan’s team is training in his boxing gym room again. But first a recap of training with Paul de Gelder yesterday. Yawn!
Today’s about finding their new limits and then push and push on that limit, try to go faster and further.
Kevin’s running at 11km/hr on the treadmill today, which Shannan reminds us is a huge step up from not being able to do 5 on day one.
And after doing 11km/hr and taking a break Shannan says it’s time to push it up to 11.5km/hr and Kevin doesn’t even hesitate to say, “Yep!” Even has a smile on his face now. We get a replay of Kev’s first training session where not only did he struggle to do 5, he ended up walking out on the session.
Not today, he’s bang up for the challenge. He knows it’s going to be tough but he’s willing to give it a go.
Shannan says Kev’s proof that no matter what your size, with the right diet and exercise you can do anything.
Now it’s Shannon’s turn. She has a look of steely determination, Shannan says. But as her time gets longer the battle starts showing on her face and she falls four seconds short at the end. Take a breather and go again!
Shannon says that Paul telling her everyone fails sometimes has helped, she knows it’s more about how you pick yourself up and get going again.
Shannon manages to do her set challenge speed (10.5km/h I think?) and feels much better afterwards.
And now it’s time for the challenge. Everyone’s excited and curious to see what it is this week. There’s distance markers on the road as they walk down it. At the end of the markers is a huge pile of tires and the trainers. And Hayley!
Hayley says today’s challenge will TIRE them out, literally. Steve has a wry chuckle at that.
They won’t have to do it alone though, they’ll have help. Two 4WDs with caged trailers on the back. The 4WDs will inch forward on the road towards the finish line 600m away. Whichever team manages to put the most tires in the trailer by the end of the course wins a 2kg advantage for their team at the weigh in.
Blue team also has an advantage thanks to the town challenge. They get 15 bonus tires in the cage before they even start.
The teams are still uneven so black will have to sit out two members. Cal puts on an evil laugh that really just makes him seem like a jerk.
Black gets to choose who to have sit out and this time they’re sitting Toni and Sharon out. Sharon’s not thrilled, tells us she doesn’t want to sit around carrying a gold nugget, she wants to carry some tires around. She doesn’t like the game anymore.
Apparently the way it will work is the cars will drive forward 50 metres every few minutes.
Ready, set, honnnnk!
Blue’s trying to roll some tires with the help of a log while black team are using a large rope to drag them to the car. Black is managing to carry a lot more tires than blue, right from the outset. Blue is struggling to work together and Cal’s getting frustrated again. He’s shouting at Shannon and she tells us it’s just making her more frustrated.
Steve thinks black has already made up the fifteen tires and looking at the two trailers it seems he’s right. And now, before blue can get more than one tire into the trailer the cars are off!
Craig’s hoiking the tires up and over his head, over and over, feeding them in just as quick as black can stack them up behind the trailer for him.
Blue is changing tactics, they’re trying to roll them down the hill instead but Shannon’s not aiming them well and then Cal’s trying to roll two at once and they go in opposite directions.
And Cal’s getting more frustrated, telling people not to leave tires unattended, getting a bit sweary and such. They’re starting to see why Caitlin dumped Cal on the blue team. Competition brings out the worst in Cal.
Now Cal and Kev are trying to lift the log with a bunch of tires on them but Kev’s having trouble keeping pace with Cal. Kev has to keep dropping it and taking breaks, which is just winding Cal up a bit more each time.
Kev and Cal manage to get their log of tires to the trailer just in time for the car to head off again. Oh dear!
At the 400m mark the cars go up a hill which is only going to make it that bit harder to get each tire up to the trailer. Kerry tries to chuck one of his tires in but can’t manage it on the first attempt. Steve gives him some pointers on it and he eventually gets them in. Then Jane tries to do it herself as well but just ends up throwing them at the cage wall over and over. Better wait for Craig.
Blue’s finally knuckling down too though. They’ve stopped looking for the easy way out and are just grabbing the tires and lugging them. Kevin’s carrying four. FOUR! Up a steep hill. The guy could barely walk way back when he started the show and now he’s been at it for god knows how long. Then tosses the tires up and into the cage by himself. Very impressive.
Black’s starting to burn out. Caitlin’s struggling a lot and not sure how she’ll keep going. Steve’s trying to keep them moving, as is Sharon, walking back and forth with the champs.
Katrina’s determined not to lose because Spanner got them the advantage. Shannon says Paul’s encouragement is helping her a lot today because she’s not worrying about failing anymore.
Kevin’s now carrying FIVE tires. Steve stops on his way back down the track to offer some encouragement. Lovely to see the trainers just being there for the contestants regardless of teams. Way back in the day, as we see now, Steve’s walking with Kev and his Mum in the first bushwalk and Kev’s talking about how his Dad used to suggest going for a walk if he was bored and he wishes he’d done that.
Shannan says this is the best physical performance he’s seen from Kev. The challenge went for hours and Kev’s more fired up near the end than at the start.
550m mark. Time to grab as many tires as they can and try to get back to the cars before the end. And time for tactics to come into it, Shannan knows. He gets Kev grabbing a tire each off Katrina and Shannon to lighten their loads, hopefully allowing them to get back to the trailer one more time.
Both cages look pretty level, Shannan says.
Caitlin says she can’t carry three tires and has to drop one to keep going.
Craig’s being encouraged to jog near the end but he’s not going to make it before the cars head off to the finish line. Cal manages to throw the last of their tires in just beforehand, then sits down on the road.
Shannan asks him if he gave 100% and Cal says 110%, he’s completely spent. But is it worth it? Cal says absolutely. He thought he’d been living life to the full, but he hadn’t. He can do so much better than he’s been doing. Cal breaks down in tears and says he’s got to say sorry to his wife when he gets home. He feels guilty for what he’d done in the past and he thanks Shannan for helping him get to that realisation.
Congratulations everyone, Hayley says.
Shannan is very proud of his team. Rocky start but they came together in the end. Steve says his team didn’t use the 15 tire disadvantage as an excuse, they worked hard. Craig tells us he’s amazed by his efforts today, since a few weeks ago he wouldn’t’ve been able to walk the course once, much less back and forth while carrying tires.
Hayley then says that after a count AND a recount, the score is 126 tires to 125. Which is crazy. CRAZY.
The winner? The black team! Wow, they managed to overcome the blue team’s advantage. No mean feat!
Next time on The Biggest Loser Shannan is struggling to keep his team together.
Then it’s time for another weigh in and somebody’s in for a bit of a dressing down from Commando Steve after some serious nutrition failures of some kind.
And did black team keep that gold nugget off the ground for the whole week? It’s implied that maybe they did not. Oooooh.
Black will probably still win the weigh in anyway, right guys?
