9×12 – P-p-p-pokerface p-p-pokerface.
Previously on The Biggest Loser Mary was sent home at elimination after the blue team lost at the weigh in once again.
Tonight Mary’s going back to Ararat where Michelle will be ready and waiting to take on the challenge. At Camp Biggest Loser there’ll be some kind of competition with fabulous prizes.
But first. “The bloody Fridge” as Caitlin says.
It’s a lovely misty morning at Camp and Hayley seems particularly chirpy.
Caitlin’s the biggest loser of the week so she gets to choose whether to open it or not. She’s excited but nervous. Blue’s even more worried because it’s another advantage for black.
Caitlin’s hoping for a family pass or something in the fridge, but power is integral to the game so she’s definitely opening it for herself. She wanders up and opens the fridge and inside is a sign that says swap teams and a blue shirt.
Caitlin gets to decide who’ll get swapped from black to blue. She picks Cal to go to blue because, while she likes Cal, the competition gets the best of him and he gets way too serious and grumpy.
Jane’s not impressed because he’s their strongest competitor. Kerry knows it’ll be tough too.
Caitlin gives Cal the blue shirt and he sullenly walks over to the other team. But not before dropping the shirt on the ground and stomping on it. Kev says he can’t wait to see Shannan’s reaction to that!
Caitlin’s pretty sure Steve’s not going to be happy with her but she’s the biggest loser so it was her choice.
Later they’re all in the lounge waiting for the trainers to turn up. Sharon suggests Cal puts his black shirt over the blue shirt to trick the trainers. Might soften the blow a bit, they reckon.
Shannan and Steve finally turn up and get right to questioning Caitlin on what happened with The Fridge. Caitlin says inside there was a blue shirt and Commando’s face drops. And again when she says she did indeed have to take someone from black and put them on blue.
Cal stands up and takes his black shirt off to show the blue. Steve says he’s a smurf now!
Shannan asks Cal what he was saying about his chicken legs. Shannan does a weird head movement and Cal says he’s even got the head movement down. Shannan tells us it’s going to be a challenge having Cal in there but it brings a bit of cheekiness back to the team which should help.
Shannan tells Cal in training that he trains fighters. It’s a different sort of training now. Shannan tells us that Cal’s been mucking about building sandcastles for the last couple of weeks with Steve.
Shannan eventually gets the gloves on with Cal and they have a bit of a spar. There’s a bit of laughter going on throughout, some sneaky punches and stuff. Shannan eventually notices there’s a bit of blood coming out of Cal’s nose and Shannan tells us he doesn’t know how Cal punched himself in the face!
After the session Shannan says Cal’s obviously got a lot of strength to him and it’s good to have him on the team, Cal says it’s good to be there. Hooray, they’re all friends!
Steve’s got his team inside today on the various machines in one of the other gyms. Sharon’s working hard on the crosstrainer when Steve comes over for a chat.
Sharon’s either hot or cold, he says. Yesterday she was on the scales and bubbly and then Hayley asked her one question and she was in tears again. Time to get to the bottom of her problems, Steve says, so they can fix it.
Sharon feels like everybody’s telling her not to be happy. Why can’t she be happy? Steve says it’s because everyone sees her happy and bubbly and then something like her children is brought up and she’s way back down low again. So everyone thinks she’s putting on a front when she’s happy. Sharon wants to change her life because she’s not happy. Why does she put on the front then, Steve asks.
Sharon’s not happy with herself or her habits. Mirror footage time! She lost respect for herself, she says, stopped caring for her body. Her weight affects her life in a lot of ways, even just being able to play with her kids. She’s always watching her kids and her husband play, sitting on the sidelines.
Sharon wants to be a good role model for her kids, that’s why she’s there.
Back at Ararat Michelle has her ever growing team training at a jail. A disused jail. Mish is using it to set the scene of breaking free of the shackles of their weight.
Mary’s welcomed to the team and Mish says this is her chance to fight her way back into the game. Mary just stares for a moment, lost for words. She eventually says she’s not sure about going back in the house. Mish says okayyy. Mary says she’ll do her best here and see what happens. Mish says it’s okay if she doesn’t want to go back. But she’s got to follow through with what she says, stop the games and the BS, it’s what got them there in the first place.
How long has Mary been a prisoner to the weight? All her life, she tells Mish. Mary’s got a chain around her neck and Mish says it’s very symbolic. Time to dump it off and stop being held back. Mary throws it off quite a distance, much to Mish’s delight.
She would have given up before, Mish says. What’s changed now? She wants it so bad, Mary says. This is her chance to prove she really wants it.
Mish is very pleased by Mary’s efforts today so it seems like she might do a bit better with Michelle. And Mish is happy. “Happy trainer, happy life” says Rodger.
Back at Camp Biggest Loser everyone’s invited down to the sandpit where they have a special sandpit set up. Even has the TBL logo printed on the nice, smooth sand.
There’s also some containers up on the edge. Hayley says it’s rewards week. Is everyone happy? It’s rewards week, come on! Everyone’s super dubious, and quite rightly so. Shifty bastards.
Hayley says it really is rewards week. There’s rewards on offer today as they’ve been away from home for a while.
It’s time to compete for some prizes in the very first Biggest Loser auction. They’ll get to bid on various rewards on things that will help them get through the following weeks. They’ll have to dig through the sand to find poker chips with which they can then bid on items. They get twenty minutes to go digging in the sand. Sharon says she loves this game! Cal points out she hasn’t started yet…
But there’s one more twist. In amongst all the regular chips is a single red chip. If you find it, keep it to yourself. It holds supreme power at the auction, Hayley says.
Ready, steady, spaghetti! Everyone piles into the huge sandpit and starts digging. Lots of different strategies but it seems Katrina’s is the best. She gets close to her bucket and starts digging… and almost right away she finds the red chip!
Everyone’s having a good giggle about their treasure hunt, with Hayley asking from the sidelines if anyone has found the red chip. Katrina has to keep pretending like she has no idea.
Toni asks Kerry to put her chips in her bucket and Kerry considers taking them for himself, but doesn’t. She just charges Toni the one chip.
Cal knocks sand back into the hole Caitlin is digging, which he says is payback for stabbing him in the back.
Everyone’s having fun, throwing sand around and Natalie dumps a couple handfuls over Sharon’s head to much giggling. Jane and Katrina, at the end, do some wrestling and giggling, as do some of the others.
And then it’s time for the auction. After everyone gets cleaned up, of course.
To win you have to have the highest bid. Unless you hold the red chip. You can use the red chip to trump a highest bid.
First item up for auction? A 500g weight advantage at the next weigh in.
Lots of bidding early on. Toni’s getting a bit excited, bidding it up very quickly. Cal then tries to push the price up a bit but in the end it only costs her 16 chips.
Next item is a set of personal scales to use for the rest of the week. Kev bids 15 right off the bat. It goes once, twice, then Caitlin bids 16. Kev doesn’t raise on that so she gets the scales.
Next up a letter from home. Probably going to be red chip time. Cal goes 20, Sharon goes 30, Shannon goes 40, Katrina 50, all in very quick succession. Going once, twice, sol… Fifty five from Natalie! Katrina thought about using her red chip but decided to let Natalie have it as she’s really needing it.
Next item is a mystery prize! Lots of people keen to take a punt on this one, despite not knowing what it is. Sharon’s hoping for immunity and eventually gets bid up to 63. Which I gather is all of her chips?
And in the end it’s seven pairs of new training socks. BWAH. HAH. HAH. Everyone but Sharon’s giggling at her. Sharon’s trying hard not to laugh too. When she gets back to her seat she ends up tossing them over her shoulder at Big Kev who chuckles some more.
Next item on the block is a one on one training session with the trainer of their choice, Shannan or Steve.
Sharon bids one, so I guess she has 1 left? Hah.
Cal ends up winning and chooses Shannan for his one on one session. He thought he got a good price but then he realised all he’d gotten was more work for himself!
And the next one is another mystery prize. More socks?
Kerry goes straight for 51, then Katrina says 55, then Kerry goes 61, 65, 71 to Kerry and sold!
So what’s the prize? $3,000 cash, nice! Hayley says the red chip can still be used in this circumstance to grab the money, which seems super fucking dodgy to me. You should have to bid blind if it’s a blind item.
But in any event Katrina decides not to outbid Kerry with her chip.
Katrina tells us the red chip won’t be coming out because it feels a bit like stealing.
Next item is a video message from home. Shannon’s hoping to pick this one up as she missed out on the letter.
Shannon ends up winning over Katrina, so she’s happy.
Next up is another mystery prize. Sharon opens the bidding with 9, then Cal bumps it up a lot, then Katrina tops him and gets the win. And the mystery prize? Every edition of The Ararat Advertiser since they came to the house. What a shitty prize!
Red chip still in play and the next item is…
Immunity!
You can buy it for yourself or for someone else. Nobody wants to waste their chips in case it’s taken away with the red chip. Cal’s bid of 50 is the winning bid and Katrina doesn’t take it off him for some reason!
Very last item is a visitor from home. More valuable than immunity, Hayley asks? Everyone says yeahhhh.
Katrina’s desperate for it but she won’t take it. Then everyone starts pouring their chips in Katrina’s bucket, awww! And also hilarious because she could have just grabbed it anyway!
Katrina says it was very humbling and a very kind act. Toni tells us everyone loves Katrina, she inspires that kind of thing.
After everyone’s given her the chips she tells everyone it was a lovely gesture but she has the red chip and everyone bursts into laughter. Everyone was impressed she hadn’t taken immunity away from Cal or the money from Kerry.
7.30 tomorrow night we see Katrina training her husband and her sons at Camp. Then it’s another crazy STACKS ON challenge, this time with sandbags being placed on a yoke over the contestants shoulders. Have they finally learned the regular weightlifting weights are terrible for these challenges? Hooray!
