9×08 – Big Kev Enters, Someone Else Leaves!

Previously on The Biggest Loser… god, what, more than a week ago?

Cal succumbed to Temptation but has to choose between taking $30,000 out of the town’s kitty and leaving or staying on. Blue won the weekly challenge and got “rewarded” with Big Kev. Cam’s suffering from some kind of cardiac problem and may have to leave, he’s off getting tests.

Tonight, will Cal leave? Will Big Kev have lost weight at the weigh in? Who’ll be sent home at elimination?

But first, Sharon’s telling Cal she wasn’t impressed by his “motivational” yelling at the challenge. Cal says it was frustrating watching two of his team carry one hay bale while Mary dragged one by herself, back and forth.

Sharon tells Cal that they physically couldn’t lift a bale by themself but Cal’s not having any of it, says they should have tried harder. Sharon and Caitlin eventually leave the lounge.

Meanwhile Blue Team is celebrating their win and getting to know Big Kev. Shannon says it’s like she already knows him from watching the show, he’s like a star! Big Kev says he’s not that up himself, she can touch him if she likes, it’s okay. Bwahaha!

Cam’s not there, he’s off to see the cardiologist. Cam tells us he usually won’t go to the doctor unless he thinks he’s dying. Cam tells Dr Ross Walker he’d had heart palpitations, chest pain and so on. Dr Ross wants him to do a stress test on the treadmill, wires hooked up so they can get a picture of what his heart’s like at the moment.

Cam’s struggling pretty bad on the treadmill and his heartrate shoots up to 190, though he’s not running all that fast.

Dr Ross says he’s got super ventricular tachycardia, a condition where the top chambers go very fast and thus his heart rate goes up so high. There’s some abnormalities and they’ll have to do some more tests. Poor Cam!

Back at Camp Biggest Loser Commando Steve has his team out in the sandpit. They’ve got to put the challenge and the associated drama behind them and get on with training now.

Cal says during training that the longer they take the longer they get punished. Steve corrects him, saying it’s just training!

Steve likes Cal’s competitive nature. It’ll rub some people the wrong way but others will get on board. Steve’s trying to get everyone to match Cal’s efforts.

Cal’s been in team sports a long time and feels like he’s good at motivating people. Steve barks out an instruction and Cal’s “helping” by translating into simpler terms.

Caitlin’s not happy. They’d confronted him about yelling during the challenge and he’s doing it again today. Caitlin tells us she’d had her doubts about how hard Cal was going to play the game, but after he ate so much at Temptation it’s clear he’s there for himself, nobody else. She’s worried he might take the money out of the town kitty. “Cal… has been an arse!”

Sharon’s not happy Cal’s still at them and she’s getting tempted to shout back at him or slap him in the face!

Shannan rocks up to Camp Biggest Loser for a chat with Cam. Cam’s scared. Shannan says he’s not weak for being scared, it’s how he deals with it that matters. He’s proven he means business when it comes to getting healthy. He’s had the best loss in a week in the history of the show, so don’t give up. Cam says he’ll keep walking all day if he has to.

But now it’s time to go train the rest of his team. They’re all in the gym warming up for once, rather than Shannan having to rustle them up. Shannan congratulates them all for their efforts at the challenge and then makes a joke about Big Kev being back.

But he looks fitter, healthier and better than ever Shannan says, despite detractors doubting he could do it on the outside.

To be fair he hasn’t really done it for long on the outside. The Ararat series was filmed in the middle of last year, mere months after last season’s finale.

Today he’s up and onto the treadmill at 9km/h from the start. Shannan’s looking to use Kev as an example for Mary in last chance training. Mary’s inspired by Kev’s efforts and manages to push harder on the treadmill than usual.

He’s hoping to leverage Kev’s experiences in losing weight from such a huge number to keep Mary going. Shannan looks at Kev’s legs, which used to be red and inflamed. Kev says his shoes have even gone down a size because of the weight he’s lost, which is pretty nuts when you think about it. Most people’s shoe sizes are just the size of their feet, but he was so immensely overweight even his feet were markedly bigger!

Kev says he’s hoping to support Mary throughout her journey because she’s where he used to be. Mary gets pushed to go at 8.5km/h on the treadmill, which she manages with Shannan’s urging and Kev’s encouragement.

Today as they go into the weigh in room the lights come on and make a lightsaber sound, which I’m not sure is entirely legal…

Before any of that Cal will have to decide whether to take the money or not. He feels a bit judged by people on moral high horses, it’s easy to say they’d give it back but would they really?

If I was going to take it I certainly wouldn’t’ve been hollering at the rest of the team all week!

Cal sort of wishes he hadn’t taken Temptation because it’s too hard a decision and it’ll put a target on his back as soon as they fall below the yellow line.

But first another bloody ad break!

After the ad break Cal’s put on a burglar mask and says he’s taking the money, he’s stealing it and running away. Everyone has a laugh and a clap but Sharon’s pretty sure everyone’s thinking the same thing. Probably the same thing I’m thinking – he’s a dirty dog!

But $30,000 is an awful lot to say no to, especially when you’re not necessarily going straight home on the back of it.

Now they have to welcome back a Biggest Loser alumni for the first time. Big Kev is now part of Blue Team again and safe from elimination for tonight at least.

He last weighed in at finale and every kilo he’s lost since then will contribute $300 to the Ararat community.

Time to weigh in!

Kev Finale: 198.6kg
Kev Now: 185.9kg
Kev Loss: 12.7kg

Not bad for a couple of months post-finale. A lot of people blow back up not long after, so he’s actually done reasonably well.

Life back at the start of the show was very hard for Kev. He couldn’t sit in his own car without a seatbelt extension, his partner had to put his socks on for him in the morning. But now his self control is a lot better and he’s a lot happier in general.

$3,810 raised on the back of Kev’s effort, bringing the balance back up to $14,490 after Cal’s dip into the kitty.

Time for the serious part of the weigh in. Team Black up first this week.

Craig Previous: 170kg
Craig Now: 165.6kg
Craig Loss: 4.4kg

Not bad for a second week, they’re never quite as big in the second week as all the easiest weightloss is done. Craig’s a little disappointed but Steve says he’s been digging deep and working on changing habits.
Steve tells us he’s not disappointed in Craig’s effort because he knows the second week their body is adjusting.

Jane Previous: 111.1kg
Jane Now: 109.4kg
Jane Loss: 1.7kg

Jane says it’s the same old disappointment, couldn’t even crack 2kg. She tells everyone she’d be okay going home, she’d take a bullet for the team. When she tells herself that, Steve asks, what’s the other voice in her saying? Stop taking the easy way out.

Steve has a chat with her before the next person weighs in. She’s got to keep at it if she wants to get to old age and look back on a life well-lived. She’s got to keep fighting, Steve says.

Toni Previous: 114.7kg
Toni Now: 111.7kg
Toni Loss: 3kg

Caitlin Previous: 124.9kg
Caitlin Now: 122.2kg
Caitlin Loss 2.7kg

Sharon Previous: 101.1kg
Sharon Now: 99.3kg
Sharon Loss: 1.8kg

90s club, yay Sharon! Sharon misses her girls so much. What’s she miss most, Hayley asks? Playing with them! She wants to get back into waterskiing and show the kids how to do it, she can’t right now because she can’t even get herself out of the water.

Cal’s next. He took a big hit at Temptation so this may not be a great result.

Cal Previous: 122.1kg
Cal Now: 120.8kg
Cal Loss: 1.3kg

Not good enough, not even close. Cal says he’s happy with it though, he’d had a rough week. If he took the Temptation weight off it’d be a better result. But he says if the team’s below the line he’ll be putting his hand up for elimination.

Kerry Previous: 129.1kg
Kerry Now: 124.6kg
Kerry Loss: 4.5kg

Black Team Total: 19.4kg
Black Team Percentage: 2.22%

Not a great result overall, but maybe it will be enough?

To avoid elimination Blue Team need at least 16.6kg. Shannan’s worried because it’s a tough ask, especially after they were smashed and lost a champion last week.

Natalie Previous: 111.6kg
Natalie Now: 109.1kg
Natalie Loss: 2.5kg

Katrina Previous: 124.5kg
Katrina Now: 123.5kg
Katrina Loss: 1kg

Bitching out your teammates won’t get your numbers up, Katrina!

Mary Previous: 170.4kg
Mary Now: 168.1kg
Mary Loss: 2.3kg

Shannon Previous: 91kg
Shannon Now: 89.1kg
Shannon Loss: 1.9kg

80s club, yay!

They need another 8.9kg from the two boys. Cam’s sweating bullets. He’s on medication so he can’t get his heart rate up to what he was doing before.

Shannan tells us Cam’s been toeing the line, his heart rate hasn’t gone over 100bpm, just as ordered, but he’s done hours and hours and hours of training to make up for the lack of intensity.

Cam Previous: 131.4kg
Cam Now: 127.9kg
Cam Loss: 3.5kg

Not bad given he’s on restricted exercises. Cam’s really proud of his number, he’s had to put in so much extra time. Last week he thought he was bulletproof, now he’s realised he’s anything but. He tells the others they’ve got to smash it now. Believe in themselves!

Last to weigh in is Matt. He’ll need to lose at least 5.4kg, which seems pretty unlikely in week two.

Matt Previous: 113.7kg
Matt Now: 112.3kg
Matt Loss: 1.4kg

Blue Team Total: 12.6kg
Blue Team Percentage: 1.7%

Before weighing in Matt was sure he’d done enough to get it done, but he’s fallen well short of the mark. He says the small number is a kick in the pants, but he feels good about managing to lose some weight. He’s got a long way to go but he’ll give 110% to get there.

Combined the two teams lost 32kg, meaning they add another $9,600 to the town kitty. $24,090 in the kitty!

Kerry’s the Biggest Loser for the week. He says if Cam had been fit Cam would have taken it out again, but he’ll take the win.

So Blue will be facing elimination. And this time the entire team is up for elimination, bar Big Kev of course. Black will get a chance to send anyone they want home!

Of course they don’t know that Michelle’s waiting for them back in Ararat, so it’s not really so sad after all!

As Blue files into the elimination room the Black team notices Cam isn’t there. Big Kev is, but not Cam. So where’s Cam?

Oh, there’s Cam. With Shannan! What’s going on, falling on his sword?

Cam tells everyone he has to leave, his heart’s not going to allow him to continue. He’s finished in the game as of now. He’s in tears and Shannan has to explain that it’s an underlying condition Cam has and it’s not medically safe for Cam to continue as they investigate his condition further. Poor Cam. :(

Cam’s scared and Shannan reminds him that it doesn’t make him weak. And no matter what, it’s a blessing in disguise that they found it before it struck him down at random in his regular life. Now he can get treatment and hopefully be just fine.

Cam doesn’t want to let the team down and Kev says he hasn’t let them down. Katrina says that Cam was the best thing for the team, but they want him to stay around for years. Mary’s heartbroken.

Shannan says Cam’s a great role model for his kids, which is what his goal was.

Kerry says he’s a lot to be proud of and he’ll be right there urging him on when he can do the exercise again.

Cam wants to thank everyone, he didn’t know most of them before coming to Camp Biggest Loser but now they’ll be friends for life. Awwww.

Next time on Biggest Loser… another Ararat challenge! Mish has them pushing hay bales back and forth in a field. Fun times.

And The Fridge is back! And there’ll be an elimination too? Crikey, cramming it all in aren’t they?

Biggest Loser will be back tomorrow night! Probably. Unless they move it AGAIN.
