9×07 – Challenge Day. Who’ll Get Stuck With Big Kev?

Previously on The Biggest Loser Rodger was sent home at Elimination, only to find out it was not all over – Michelle was waiting back in Ararat to train him and other eliminated contestants as the new Red Team.

Tonight, who won at Temptation and what’s the catch? There’s always a twist.

Later, Cam might have something wrong with his heart? Then the weekly challenge involves shipping containers, rolling them around, lifting hay bales and some huge prize that is actually Big Kev from last season.

But first, Hayley relives last night’s Temptation adventures.

Someone consumed 3,019 calories. That someone was… Cal. Oh, really? Odd. Everyone’s a little surprised. He ate a steak sandwich, hotdog with sauce and a large cola. Caitlin says Commando is going to go OFF.

But before he gets the $30,000, there’s a twist. As a group they’ve raised over $40,000 for the town of Ararat. And if Cal takes his money it comes out of that money. Well, that’s put him on the spot, hasn’t it!

Cal’s renovating the house at the moment so it would be a big help. Kerry’s not impressed, saying he wouldn’t take it. Easy for you to say!

Cal has until the next weigh in to decide whether he’ll take the money.

Katrina’s with some of the other girls in the lounge room the next day and, surprise, she’s cutting someone else down. She tells the black team girls that it makes you wonder how loyal Cal is to the black team.

Caitlin’s hoping Commando comes down on him hard and that he doesn’t do well at the weigh in. It’s going to be hard to burn off 3,000 calories. Katrina says it’s 3 days food in 10 minutes… but it’s not for the men, it’s closer to 2!

Toni says Cal’s been talking the talk but they may have been playing into his hands.

Sharon’s hoping Commando won’t take revenge on the whole team. You’re going to be working hard regardless!

Steve is then introducing their training session and says that it’s one in, all in. So they’re all going to have to step it up today. Hard work and staying united is how they’re going to get through it.

Commando Steve says no one person is more important than the team and now Cal’s in the sin bin, on a spin bike pedalling away by himself.

Blue meanwhile are understandably upbeat as black has their own chink in the armour now. Shannan’s going to remind them what it’s like to fight anyway. First hardcore boxing session. Shannan loves boxing, says it’s one of the most taxing activities you can do. And for Mary it’s going to be extra tough. But no excuses and no charity. The only thing that’s letting her down is her head, Shannan tells her. She’s got to get past that. Mary tells us she’s determined not to let her team down today.

And she’s doing well in training today, Shannan says. Mary’s picking up the intensity but she’s still capable of more.

Steve fells like his training session is a bit fractured because everyone’s head isn’t in the game. But all they can do till weigh in is work hard and Cal will have to win back that respect he’s lost.

Sharon’s happy that Cal’s been taken away for today because it’s a chance for the rest of the team to show they can do it without him, despite Cal thinking they depend on him.

Sharon feels Cal let the team down. Sharon’s completely broke too, has bills and so on. But she’s there to change her life.

Kerry’s disappointed in Cal eating that shit. Pretty sure it was food!

Everyone’s putting in a lot of effort in training today, which Cam is happy about. But then something went wrong with his health. Felt a little something funny in his chest. After they start cooling down after training Cam’s struggling to catch his breath and his heart rate is still too high. So off to the medic with him!

Cam had some pains across his chest and across his back. Heart rate got to 220. Oooof. Cam’s grandfather had a heart attack at 52, so he’s very worried. But he knows he has to make the change to be around for his kids.

They’re sending him off for a specialist appointment but until then there’s no training, no challenges or anything. The medic says it’s actually good he’s here and not back in Ararat because they may have missed it back there.

Cal decides to have a chat with Craig about whether or not to keep the money. He didn’t have a good night, all the crap made him unwell and thinking about the money didn’t help. He doesn’t like that the money is coming out of the kitty but he’s got a young family to look after and he needs to provide for them.

Cal’s not got a job apparently. So the money would be a huge help for him. But as Craig says he’s got to go back to Ararat and everyone will know he took the money away, if he goes that way.

Cam’s having a chat with Mary in the lounge room. Mary’s still saying she won’t let them down, they’ll win, etc. Cam promises to help her and that training session was good. Just rip into it. The medic’s told him to stop, it hurts. Mary gets back into making excuses, saying she won’t be able to push as hard as the others and Cam says it’s not about that, it’s about getting on the scales at the end of the week and being able to honestly say she’s given it everything.

Mary’s not going to fall apart at the challenge this week. The Blue Team is ready!

And now it’s time for the challenge! Everyone into the fleet of SUVs and down to the docks. So many cargo containers!

Big challenge, big prize. They’re competing for a mystery prize. It’s in another cargo container. Very mysterious.

The challenge is to push a shipping container across the ground with the assistance of some rolling logs underneath. Then they get the 3.4 tonnes of hay bales to build a staircase to the top of a double stack of containers. First team to reach the top gets to pick up the boltcutters and open up the mysterious container and win whatever’s inside.

Blue Team has two people out for medical reasons. Cameron, obviously. And Shannon because she hurt her knee? Pfft.

So they’ve got to drop 3 people from Black… and as Cam was the biggest loser of the week he gets to choose which 4 of the black team will compete. Hah!

Cam has to make the choice himself, no consultation. No problem! Sharon, Caitlin, Craig and Toni will be competing for Black. Cal’s not happy because he got left out. Boohoo!

Then Hayley announces it’s a challenge designed for five people. And the trainers like to lead by example. So Commando Steve will assist his team and Shannan will help Blue. Sharon says Steve’s a machine!

Lots of pressure on Blue but particularly Mary. Time to prove she’s not a quitter. Mary says she’s got this.

Craig’s team leader for Black, the non-competitors are moral support.

Commando Steve’s very competitive and planning on leading from the front. He’s moving the rolling logs back out to the front by himself. And he’ll be happy if he beats the smurfs!

Shannan tells us with all those muscles Steve’s got to be all show, no go!

Black’s spacing their logs out more so they’re making better progress, but Blue is still pushing along.

Black has a problem with their lead log, it’s gone a bit sideways so they have to roll their container back a bit before moving forward again. But they get to the doublestack first and can start stacking up their hay bales. Good head start but now the really hard work starts.

Shannan sees Black come in first but they’re sure one more good push and they can get there. They do and then the trainers drop out and it’s all down to the champs.

Black’s a goodly way ahead early and they’ve got a strategy that might work for them. They’re taking the bales about a third of the way down and then others would take them from there.

Blue team has a different strategy. Katrina and Natalie are carrying two bales, one on each side of them. Mary’s going to lug one along by herself as best she can.

Mary says carrying hay bales hurts but she doesn’t want a repeat of last week’s challenge. Cam’s beside her a lot of the time and encouraging her. He says at some point something just clicks in Mary and she doesn’t moan, she growls.

She’s going to the hay container time after time and just not stopping. They’re mowing the black team down.

Black is starting to fall apart a bit. Caitlin drops one of her bales and Sharon yells sweary things. Tsk!

The teamwork’s not going so well, Steve says. The encouragement and words of advice have stopped. Caitlin says Cal on the sideline is more like shouting abuse, very degrading.

Sharon pretty much agrees. Cal thinks he wasn’t calling abuse, he was trying to encourage them. But it really doesn’t look like it to me.

He starts in on Boobs (Craig) who tells him to shut up. Craig says it’s bringing the whole team down, not encouraging them.

Sharon reckons Cal’s abuse put them down so much Craig pretty much gave up.

Black’s dragging some bales, some flipping them end over end, some bales just falling apart. Shannan says Blue is just motoring along nicely.

Blue is first to finish their first staircase up onto their container.

But then the rain comes in and Matt says the bales are just going to get heavier and heavier.

Matt and Mary are continuing with dragging bales to the container while Katrina and Natalie are doing the stacking up top. Mary’s proving she’s a credit to the team. At one point it looked like she might be stopping and Shannan says not to stop and Mary says she’s not stopping, she’s just changing hands.

How many bales of hay do they need? Blue’s miscalculated and don’t have enough bales. Black has most of their stock close to the container and ready to go. Blue’s dragging some more up.

Craig’s covered in hay but he’s not giving up, much to Steve’s delight.

Close race to the finish. Neither team is giving up.

But it’s Blue who get their final bale into place and Katrina heads up the hay bale stairs and onto the top with the bolt cutters.

Shannan’s very proud of his team, not just for winning but for winning as a team.

Katrina cuts off the lock and undoes the door… and out comes a massive prize, says Shannan.

And behind the door is Big Kev from last season.

Bear in mind this was filmed in the middle of last year, not long after the previous season finished airing.

But he’s still enormous. ENORMOUS. He weighed in at 254.7kg when he started.

And so he’s the first contestant to ever come back for another series. They replay his original weigh in but this time they don’t edit out the creaking and groaning the stage was doing. Or maybe they edited it in?

Shannan says Kevin proved that nothing’s impossible and he’s lost an incredible amount of weight, having done it the right way through hard work and determination. Shannan says he’s done well on the outside but he’s looking forward to seeing what he can do after a second season.

Kevin will be a huge asset to Blue, Hayley says, saying he’s dropped over 55kg since starting on The Biggest Loser.

Um, Hayley, he’d dropped 56.1kg AT THE FINALE. So he’s essentially done fuck all since then. What a massive disadvantage to dump on Blue as a “reward”.

Kev says it’s good to be back in Blue and Shannan says he did alright last time so it’s good to have him back.

Guess the real proof is in the first weigh in, isn’t it.

In the car on the way back Natalie and Matt are chatting about Kev. Katrina is there, but silent. I’m assuming they edited out her inevitable snarky comments.

In one of the black team cars Sharon is annoyed at Cal still. He didn’t even say well done at the end.

Blue’s also worried about Cam’s health. He might be out of it and he’s really bang up for all the work and stuff.

Biggest Loser returns next Tuesday. So far away!

Cam might be hit with more bad news, black going to have a bit of a bicker. Then it’s weigh in and elimination time.
Kevin’s going to be listed based on his finale weight first, then his current weight. So it’ll be interesting to see if he’s actually lost anything.

Anyway. Who’s excited Big Kev’s back, anyone?
