8×25 – Six teams become five, not long now!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Richard and Amber won immunity at the challenge and Gerald and Todd got their very own early makeovers.

Tonight, last chance training, weigh in, elimination, excitements.

We pick up the training tonight with Shannan’s green and grey teams. Todd’s determined not to go under the yellow line this week so he’s trying to burn off as many calories as he can. Gerald’s confident he’s given it 100% for the whole week in the gym but he’s still a little worried.

What about the chatter at the challenge, Shannan asks? Richard said they’d have green’s back if they fall below the line and that Richard’s said he’ll be a man of his word. And he’s part of an alliance so they should have the power to save them. But Gerald knows that he and Todd are in the top slot and if Richard’s serious about winning the $200,000 then obviously he needs to get rid of green.

Shannan tells us the toughest training he does in the gym, other than boxing, is rowing. It breaks your mind, he says. But Brett’s doing the intervals in rowing at the same speed as Shannan does, which has Shannan very excited. After they finish an interval Shannan squats beside them and does a very poor imitation of Mandy’s accent, reminding her of when she used to think Brett was giving 100%? Well, now he is. No more holding back, Mandy says.

Brett’s wrist is getting better and Mandy’s knees are improving. They’re already third on the leaderboard so they’re a big threat to everyone else. But they’re confident they’ve done enough to be above the yellow line. They can’t all be above the yellow line!

Then Shannan pulls out a laptop with their audition video on it. Mandy thought she looked nice in the top she was wearing but she says she had “anorexia in reverse”, thinking she was thinner than she actually was. Brett looked really sad, Mandy says. And he’s huge in the video. Of course he has a beard at the moment so maybe it’s not that big a difference.

Shannan says to them to pull out all the stops tonight, he wants them to be first into the gym and last back out. What if they get eliminated, Shannan?

Mish says it’s not always about the weightloss or who’s on top of the leaderboard, sometimes it’s about who they’ve become and understanding the changes in them.

Sam was gutted by not winning the challenge. He’s beating himself up because he didn’t stick to his ideal of never giving up and giving everything he’s got, etc.

Sam’s not bothered by blue having immunity, just disappointed in himself for having given up and stepping off the treadmill. Before Jess started the journey she was struggling, Sam says. Sam had always known Jess was heavy but when he saw she weighed more than him that was devastating to him and it sparked him to action. Jess thinks Sam feels responsible for her weight.

Jess probably has another 35kg she could comfortably lose, Sam tells us, so he’s got to lead by example. Sam came back after the challenge and did another 800 calories of exercise, so he did have more in the tank. Mish says every athlete has had bad days, it’s the ones who pick themselves back up when the wheels fall off, who has the guts to get back up and have another go, they’re the winners.

Commando Steve has his orange and blue teams out on the lawn today doing rowing and weights and various calisthenics. Blue has immunity but Steve says that doesn’t matter, it’s a mind game and he doesn’t want them to lose sight of the goal. Especially Amber, who’s always slacking off anyway.

Amber hates burpies, she tells us. And she wonders what the inventor was even doing to think that’d be a good exercise. Amber also sucks at the rowing machine. And at weights. And tells us that with immunity she’s not really worried about too much this week.

Still gotta lose the weight, fathead!

Time for weigh in.

Since Richard and Amber have immunity they’re going first. Hayley reminds them that the rules state if they’ve put on weight they lose immunity. Could be interesting on Amber’s side!

Richard: 108.4kg 1.7kg Amber: 92.9kg 1.5kg Total: 3.2kg 1.56%

So they’re safe, but that’s a suspiciously low number from Richard. Amber reckons she’s given 100% this week but Steve tells us his 100% and her’s are very, very different. He says they’re lucky they’ve got immunity. Richard says he’s surprised by the numbers. They’ve done a lot of things differently, trying to get the number down he reckons. Lies, all lies. King Richard says there’s a game afoot and Sam gives him a lot to aim for, blah blah blah.

Janet and Kirsten are up next.

Janet: 80kg 3.1kg Kirsten: 79.1kg 1.5kg Total: 4.6kg 2.81%

First place! And Kirsten’s excited to be into the 70s at last. Janet’s still a little worried they might be under the yellow line but she’s happy with her result.

Janet says food no longer controls her life and it’s exciting! Mish is chuffed at Janet’s result, especially considering Janet’s always worried she’s not the fastest or the strongest.

Robyn and Katie’s turn.

Robyn: 82.5kg 2.2kg Katie: 102.9kg 3.3kg Total: 5.5kg 2.88%

First place! Just nudged Janet and Kirsten out of first position. Robyn’s trained hard this week and Katie’s happy to have beaten her Mum, at least in raw weight. And she’s aiming for another 3kg next week so she’ll be in the 90s. Robyn says Katie’s stronger than her, she carries her Mum, she’s beautiful, she means the world to her.

Next up, Mandy and Brett. Brett says he’s really enjoyed this past week and he’s hoping for a 5kg loss.

Mandy: 85.5kg 2.9kg Brett: 142.8kg 3kg Total: 5.9kg 2.52%

Third place. Robyn and Katie are now safe from elimination. Mandy’s pleased with her result and Hayley cheers because she’s finally pleased with a result. Brett’s upset because he was aiming for a better result and he didn’t get there. Mandy’s not carrying him, she says, but she’s upset for him that he’s done 100% and it wasn’t enough. She’s worried they could fall below the line, though they have friendships they hope might save them if they do.

Sam and Jess need at least 5.6kg to stay safe from elimination. They’re hoping they won’t be below the line because they know they’re first on the chopping block.

Sam: 99.9kg 3.6kg Jess: 113.1kg 1.3kg Total: 4.9kg 2.25%

Meaning they’re already below the yellow line and they’ll be facing elimination. Though they’ve beaten Richard and Amber, who’ll no doubt end up sending them home… Mish says they’ve trained very hard and she’s loved training with them. And they’re below the yellow line now and they’re at the bottom of the leaderboard, so Mish wants to make that very clear to everyone. Richard says they’ve dropped 9kg in two weeks so they absolutely are a threat. Sam’s happy they’ve conducted themselves with integrity, so whatever happens, happens.

Last is Gerald and Todd. Eep! To stay safe they need at least 5.3kg. Gerald’s worried. He says anything’s possible but he’s learned you can wreck yourself all week in training and still get a low number.

Gerald: 118kg 3.3kg Todd: 84.3kg 2.3kg Total: 5.6kg 2.69%

Oh good lads, safe again! Mandy and Brett, Sam and Jess will now be facing elimination. Mandy’s worried because she thinks they’re a bigger threat.

Gerald says he feels very sore now. It’s been a huge battle and he thought he’d struggle to get 3kg, so he’s pretty happy. Todd’s proud of himself. Says he’s looking pretty good. Shannan says Todd’s had a lot of fun this week which gets the best out of him. Gerald was pretty broken at the start of the week, Shannan says. Very emotional and stuff.

Flashback to Gerald and Todd’s makeover!

Todd says they’re going home different men, that’s for sure. He’s determined to look after his sister even more, etc.

Robyn and Katie are the week’s biggest losers. And thus are now on top of the overall leaderboard. Steve reckons if they can keep going they’re a good chance of winning the entire competition.

And after an ad break we’re straight into the elimination room. No backroom dealing stuff? Hmm.

Sam and Jess only just came back and they’re already facing elimination again. Mandy and Brett have to hope their friendships keep them safe another week.

And the voters? This time it’s all the kids… except Todd, as Gerald’s stepped in again.

Sam’s surprised, it’s an important vote and he was expecting the parents to be there. Amber smirks. Amber says they are the kids of the team but they’re also adults and they want to show they’re capable of making those decisions, too.

Time to think of their own futures, Hayley says, and not vote with their hearts.

Katie says that in terms of the leaderboard Mandy and Brett are in third place so they could come up at finale and knock her and her Mum off the top spot. And if Katie votes to keep Sam and Jess in the game, they might owe them one. Sam says he’s not sure about owing them, but they’d certainly have it in mind. Jess knows that if they are in the finale they don’t have the time to catch up to Robyn and Katie.

Kirsten says people catching up or overtaking has to be weighed up. But she’s not sure which team would be better for her and her Mum to keep.

Gerald says another big factor is being able to live with himself afterwards. Not necessarily friendships, just things to consider.

Mandy knows Brett needs to lose 5 or 6kg every week to get a good percentage and if he doesn’t they’ll be back under the line anyway. Brett thinks you need to look at the last couple of weeks where Sam’s lost 9kg, so he’s the bigger threat anyway.

Sam says Brett’s not reached his potential yet, and if he does what will happen? What if he gets to the final three and goes home, his Dad’s a personal trainer. He’ll be working out 8 hours a day. Have a think about that, he tells the other contestants.

Brett says he’s still partly crippled, presumably due to his wrist, he won’t be back to peak performance until well after the show. And yes, his Dad is a personal trainer, but clearly he wasn’t listening to him given his size. Yes but Brett now you know better, don’t you!

Time to write down your votes. If it’s a tied vote then it’ll be Sam and Jess to go home as they lost the least amount of weight by percentage.

Kirsten’s first to vote. She’s thinking of what is best for her Mum and herself and one team is a clear threat. Brett and Mandy get her nod.

Amber says she came in very undecided and she feels very sick but she’s voted for Sam and Jess as expected so, you know, maybe don’t believe her.

Gerald says his vote isn’t about who poses the bigger threat, it’s about keeping in the team who he believes has got his back. So he’s voted out Sam and Jess to keep Brett and Mandy in the game.

Sam reckons Brett and Mandy will win the game so they’re probably going to regret their votes in a week or two. He wishes them all the best of luck. Jess enjoyed every minute of being at Camp. She’s ready to go out and live her life now, have dinner with friends and so on. Sam says they took their chance with both hands and ran with it.

So, again, you’re not the biggest losers. Go home again Sam and Jess! See you at finale.

Which is really not so far away now, with only five teams left.

Four weeks later Sam’s looking even thinner though Jess looks about the same. She says she’s working out two or three times a day though. Looking at their audition tape Jess says it makes her want to go to work out at the gym right away, she hates what she looked like then.

Tomorrow night it’s makeover time! Everyone else is getting their makeover and, hopefully, Gerald and Todd get another chance to strut, this time with an audience.

And, in a Biggest Loser first, the contestants will be confronted by holograms of their former selves. It’s the future! Only it’s the past… Um. Anyway. MAKEOVER WEEK!
