8×23 – Time to Pick a Dick… err, Trainer

Previously on The Biggest Loser Mark and Chris failed to return for their second chance, meaning Janet and Kirsten make it through along with Sam and Jess.

Tonight King Dick’s getting cocky, but who’s leading the race overall? Everyone will be weighing in to check everyone’s standings since the start of the show. Gerald and Todd have a heart to heart chat about… things.

And The Fridge is going to award one lucky team a makeover! I’m not entirely sure how a fridge will give anyone a makeover, it doesn’t even have any hands. Or any other appendage, really.

Everyone’s having breakfast in the kitchen and having a chat when the trainers rock up. They discover Janet and Kirsten have made it back after the voting. King Richard says they were always going to bring back the pink team because the black team were the bigger threat.

How’s everything going otherwise? Sam cooks well, Jess cleans up, says Richard. Sam says they know their place and they all have a good chuckle at that.

But now Hayley’s turned up and it’s time to go to weigh in. Right after breakfast and everyone’s filled up on water, says Gerald. Nobody’s sure what’s going on since they really only just weighed in.

Hayley tells them the bleedingly obvious – they’re the top six! And now they’re in the final run towards the finish line.

So, who’s winning this race and who needs to lift their game? Time to find out!

Sixth place is Sam and Jess. They’ve lost a total of 45.6kg, a percentage of 17.31%, since coming on the show. As the first set of eliminated contestants they weren’t expecting anything else. Sam thinks it’ll keep the other guys thinking about other teams, not them. Katie mutters “fat chance!” Sam reckons they can win from there though and anyone counting the money already has rocks in their head.

Fifth place is Richard and Amber! 46.8kg so far, 18.62%. As the supposed King that’s appalling. He’s below even the all girl teams. Even the pink girls!

Amber’s not surprised because she knows she’s not given 100% so far.

Fourth place is Janet and Kirsten with 41kg at 20.03%. Good effort from the girls, especially with spending some time at home in there.

Third place is Mandy and Brett. 67kg, 22.24%. Wow, 67kg is a lot. Brett says he’d rather be higher up the leaderboard. Mandy’s okay with where they are.

Very close between first and second, says Hayley. One team is just edged out in front of the other. Top of the leaderboard is… an ad break!

Actually it’s Gerald and Todd, of course. They’ve lost 63.4kg for a percentage of 23.37%. Nice job, boys. Some people don’t manage that by finale!

Robyn and Katie have lost 58kg with a percentage of 23.3%. So very, very close indeed.

Gerald is asked if he ever thought they could have lost so much and he says he’s always looking up at the posters for previous contestants and taking a bit of inspiration from them. We actually get to see the poster of 2007’s Chris which is, I think, the first time he’s been acknowledged in a long time. Even in passing!

Robyn’s not giving up this time. Giving up is how she got to where she was. She was hating her life and hating how her kids were turning out. She’s not a dropkick, she’s a strong woman and you shouldn’t take the easy option. Blah blah blah.

Game on!

Time to spice things up a bit, Hayley says. Until now they’ve been trained by all three trainers. That stops now! Contestants will now get to choose their trainer. The one who will train them for the rest of their time at Camp Biggest Loser.

Surely they won’t let a trainer go home without being chosen, right?

Amber likes Shannan because he’s got a good read on her. Katie wants Steve because she likes the sandpit.

There’s six teams so it’ll be two teams per trainer. And they’ll go down the weightloss leaderboard list letting each team pick on the way. Starting with green.

Todd and Gerald have a chat. Todd says they’re the best trainers in the worrrrld. In the end they pick Shannan.

Katie says it was sand in the crack that got them to second place and it’ll be sand in the crack that gets them the rest of the way. Robyn facepalms while everyone else laughs their arse off. Yep, they’re going Commando!

Brett and Mandy choose Shannan because Shannan’s got into Brett’s head the best, he respects him. Mandy would have never picked Shannan before, Shannan says, but she’s come a long way, hasn’t she!

Shannan now has two teams so he’s no longer a choice.

Kirsten says Janet hates the sandpit, Janet clarifies she loves Steve but not the sandpit. But they’ve picked Michelle. Who must be feeling so good about getting finally picked in that fashion! But she’s looking forward to taking them all the way.

King Dick picks Commando Steve. Amber doesn’t look thrilled by that though.

Sam and Jess, the red team, get Mish. Which is good for Mish, the original red team trainer. Sam says Mish would have been their choice regardless because she’s the one who got through to Jess and pulled her out of a dark place. So it was meant to be.

Steve has the light blue and orange teams, Michelle has the pink and red teams and Shannan has grey and green.

After an ad break Mish has taken her new teams off for a special training session. Both the underdog teams, Mish points out to them, as they’re standing around harnessed up and ready for rock climbing.

Kirsten’s quite nervous but Janet’s trying to be reassuring. Mish says it’s a strange relationship because they do love each other but there’s so much negativity between the two of them.

Kirsten’s not a big fan of heights and having her Mum on the other end of the rope is making things hard for her too.

But she’s straight up the wall like a monkey! She’s done very well, Jess is still making her way up as Kirsten starts climbing back down. Janet seems entirely too excited at the idea of getting it wrong and Kirsten falling down the wall. In the end Kirsten has to let go of the wall and Janet holds her up before the ground, of course.

Shannan’s chuffed to have the number one and number three teams to train. Though it means a broken down old man with the bad back, Brett with one arm and Mandy worrying too much with bad knees.

But the group mentality is gone now, they can work around the specific injuries in a consistent manner now. Gerald’s been throwing everything he’s got at the competition since the first week, Shannan says. He’s exhausted physically and mentally and Shannan can see it. Gerald hit a dark spot this morning, no energy, mind playing up. He’s missing home. Todd says Gerald’s gone downhill a bit since Todd got back from being home. He’s worried they’re both going downhill at the moment.

Gerald tells us he’s missing his friends and family, which isn’t helping anything. He’s thinking negative things a lot instead of the positive thoughts. He’s even been crying a bit on and off.

Gerald’s not sure how to turn it around. His mind’s been trying to get him give up during training. Shannan sets him some homework. This is his last training session for today. When they’re done he can go for a walk but when everyone else is thrashing themself in the gym tonight he can go have a lie down because he’s earnt a rest, Shannan says. Have a think about home but don’t long for it. Shannan says part of being a good trainer is knowing when to give someone a kick and when to give them a cuddle. And right now Gerald needs a cuddle. Aww!

Now, get your boxing gloves on. Have a bit of fun in training today, Shannan reckons.

To start with they’re just punching the mitts and a body pad. Then they’re doing some one on one work. Mandy’s doing some cross punches and Shannan then returns with the mitts telling her to get her hands up, she’s a fighter now. Mandy giggles and says no she’s a girl!

They’re having a lot of fun at the start of the session which Gerald is finding particularly good for him today. Lots of horse play but lots of hard work, too.

Then Gerald and Mandy are playing a weird game where you square up with the other person and have to try and slap the other person’s knee. If you get slapped you have to do a couple of star jumps before resuming the battle.

Then Shannan decides it’s time for a sparring match with Todd. Shannan tells us he only does this with contestants he really respects. Gerald tells us Todd used to do a little kickboxing a long time ago.

Todd says it’s a good chance to beat up “Shannan Ponting”. Nope. That’s not his name.

They’re having a bit of fun at the start. Shannan dropping his guard and just ducking and weaving out of the way then putting his block back up to take some punches. Todd’s throwing some combination but Shannan’s so fast he’s still slipping away at will. Todd’s getting a bit carried away so Shannan reminds him to keep his guard up by giving him a little clip on the chin and later a bop on the nose. Then the fight’s over and they’re having a chuckle afterwards. Shannan’s very pleased Todd had the courage to get in and do that now.

Time for Commando Steve’s training session.

Katie picked Steve because she knew his training sessions would never be boring… but this session she’s worried he’s gone insane. Steve’s judging their levels of fitness to see what he’s got to work with. He knows that without Richard the light blue team would have been sent home weeks ago!

Richard’s goal is still top three. And people who know him on the outside would know he achieves his goals. He travels a lot for his work, earning lots of money to pay off big bills. He thinks he may have financially ruined himself to be there.

Richard’s the fittest in Steve’s team, he says. But Amber’s still struggling to get anything done, much less be the fittest. Richard thinks it’s time Amber realised it’s a team effort and she needs to pick up her effort or they’ll have to pack up and go home.

Hold a plank after crawling up and down the grass bank seems a tough ask but Amber’s not even trying. She’s having a cry and holding her ankle instead. Steve eventually gets through to her though and she starts holding the plank position… at least for a while!

Steve says the contestants have been complaining about having too much sand in their cracks. So it’s time to wash it out and replace it with some mud. Into the lake. Yes, in their good shoes, just get in there already!

Even Richard’s unimpressed by this turn of events, saying the water is filthy and… to be fair, he’s not wrong.

Time to get out of the water, pick up a tire and carry it down into the lake and hold it above their heads while they do another lap of the lake. Then crab crawl backwards through the muck again! Steve says it’s showing their toughness and resilience that they’re managing to get it done.

Amber: “I’m touching duck poo!” Steve: “SHUT UP!!!”

The girls are being girly and complaining a lot but Richard’s having a great time.

Steve says he’s got them for four weeks or until they leave. Abide by his rules and all will be well in the kingdom. And Richard can keep his crown, Steve says as he tosses a cardboard crown for Richard to wear while dubbing him King Dick!

And now it’s time for THE FRIDGE! Sam and Jess were the biggest losers of the week so they’re expecting to get a look in themselves.

Except Hayley says it’s not going to be in the biggest loser’s hands this week. Jess is quite disappointed.

Earlier they found out who’s leading the race since day one so Gerald and Todd get the power instead.

Gerald is thinking they’ll take the chance this time because Gerald’s run himself down a bit and it’s worth a punt.

Todd opens the door and it says they’ve won a makeover. And Todd is far too excited about that. Gerald thinks he deserves a makeover though.

Amber’s in a foul mood, she tells us. She wants a haircut so bad. She can barely get a brush through it, she reckons. SO CUT IT OFF. Richard says if she thinks that’s bad try having a polarbear on her face. I’m sure they’d let you shave if you wanted to, Richard.

Katie then complains she has huge bushy eyebrows. Which is even more absurd. They look like normal fucking eyebrows. You think they’re going to schedule plucking or waxing in the Army? Ridiculous.

Shannan’s there for their makeover and he tells them he’s never seen a pair more deserving of this than them. Including all previous years in that. He’s not had anyone give him so much effort and intensity and so on, right from the start, as those two.

It’s a fancy salon and Gerald’s never had anything of the sort, so he’s having a good time, though a little scared what they might do to him!

Gerald’s changed a lot, physically, since coming on the show. He came on because his daughter was scared about his future.

Todd’s getting foils in his hair from the cuter of the two hairdressers and having a good giggle with her while doing it. Todd’s changed a lot too, he says. He used to get teased a lot at school and he’d come home and comfort eat.

Oh my god they’re trimming Gerald’s eyebrows. They’re not that bushy, come on!

Everyone’s sitting out on the lawn for a night time presentation of the new Gerald and Todd after their makeover. Shannan asks the contestants how the boys will look and everyone is excited and reckon they’ll come back much better.

Kirsten says Todd will be the next Justin Bieber. Gosh, I hope not!

Gerald’s excited to have some new, smaller clothes to get into. Todd’s liking the trendier clothes too. Especially since it’s been a while since he’s been pleased with the way he looks.

They’ve been cut and styled and got some new clothes to match their new bodyshapes and outlooks on life.

Time to introduce the new and improved Gerald and Todd..

TOMORROW NIGHT. Ugh, you bastards. Just show us now, you have plenty of time, it’s only David Fucking Attenborough afterwards. He’s old, he can wait!

Also tomorrow night an immunity challenge. Treadmills at high noon!
