8×18 – Anita rips herself a new one
Previously on The Biggest Loser Amber chucked a tantrum because she still had to do exercise when she was at home.
Tonight a workout and then the weekly challenge. This week it’s a brains vs brawn challenge with the at-home contestants having to answer questions while the at-Fat-Camp contestants have to hold a weight off the ground. A weight that gradually increases as their at-home partner gets answers wrong.
Mish is urging her people on, telling them they’re carrying the bag for their teams this week. The others have gone home, get to sleep in their own bed, see their families, etc. The people still at Camp have to focus on losing the weight just in case the people sent home don’t lose any weight this week.
Michelle wasn’t surprised by most of the picks to go home, except for Amber going home. She thinks Amber may not be training as hard as she could be. Cue a shot of Amber on a cross trainer, working only her legs, on “Effort Level 1”. I don’t know how the effort levels on those things work but I sort of doubt 1 is the highest setting. It usually goes up from there! Mish says Richard and Amber have a tumultuous relationship but it’s not been a father-daughter one, more that of best mates. Cue footage of Richard and Amber sitting down to pig out on both pizza AND KFC. Who does that?!
Richard knows it should have been him to go home. But he’s the father so he’s looking out for her, he thinks. He’s really not though, is he? Richard says it’s really hard to watch her struggle and there’s a block in her he can’t get past. He tells us she’s dropped the ball a few times, disappointed him. Amber goes off when Richard tries to encourage her to train. He left her a note and she tore it up and left it all over his bed.
Richard’s done his 1,200 calories a day that he promised Michelle, even more on some days. But Amber’s not! Back to Amber training at home with her sister and the machine says she’s done 65 calories worth of exercise which Amber brands “pretty good”. I burn more than that on a walk and I’m not in a competition to win heaps of money!
Richard thinks Amber should know the difference between things now she’s a young adult. Mish can tell Richard’s starting to get angry that Amber won’t get her act together. He’s let her get away with it for so many years and now he’s being held accountable for it. And it’s making him angry. And Mish thinks that’s actually a good thing for him!
Shannan’s strutting down a suburban street telling us about how Kevin was the biggest contestant in the history of the show. We know, we put up with him for like two whole weeks. Duuude. Anyway, Shannan’s visiting Big Kev to see how he’s going on the outside.
He’s lost around 4kg since leaving Camp. Without knowing how long it’s actually been it’s hard to know how good that is.
Kevin’s big weakness was food. So they’re going to go check the kitchen. Shannan gets into the kitchen and there’s junk food everywhere!
But it all belongs to his housemates. He can’t clear the house of temptation because he lives with other people. He says he’s not eaten any of the junk he used to eat since leaving.
Time to check the fridge! Not only does he have healthy stuff in the fridge, he’s weighed out his meat and individually packaged it all. Measured out salads and packaged them up. He’s been avoiding snacks by getting home from shopping and preparing all his healthy foods at the same time because it’s all out already. Kevin’s looking a bit perkier and Shannan’s pleased he seems to have found his spark to keep going.
He’s obviously still no athlete but he has a short session with Shannan out in a park. And he’s really enjoying it. His self esteem is coming back, getting a bit of pride back. Hasn’t had that in a long time. His mindset has changed, he says. And it feels good!
Next time Shannan sees him it’ll be with his Mum to fight their way back into the house.
Steve’s got Katie and Anita out in the sandpit. They’ve got to work hard! As usual. They’re doing “suicide runs”. Back and forth between cones in the sand. Katie says they’re hard enough on normal ground, extra hard on sand.
They’re doing squats and pushups at the start/finish line. But that’s just the warm up! Steve then adds weights into the equation.
Katie says this week is about proving to her Mum she can do it on her own. Her Mum’s been the driving force behind their team so far. Katie thinks if she stuffs up in the house in a controlled environment, what does that say about her? Well, it says you’re human, Katie.
One more run before the end, Steve says after a short chat break. Anita’s not looking so good…
She says she’s feeling sick and shaky and like she might pass out. Then she feels like something ripped under her ribs but she keeps soldiering on for a short while. But she can’t keep it up. And we hear a siren in the background. Even though they could not possibly have been called as Steve wouldn’t even know to call them yet!
After an ad break Anita’s grunting and groaning and then the medic vehicle whooshes her off into hospital. Cher’s been told at home and she’s in tears. Cher wishes she could be there.
Anita’s got to stay overnight because they’re not sure what’s going on just yet. She just knows she’s in an awful lot of pain.
But meantime it’s challenge time!
The room is set up with ropes and a pulley and a platform for each of the four teams. Hayley says they’ve been slogging it out at Camp and the people at home could have been doing anything. Hopefully also working hard. But anyway, this brings us to today’s challenge.
There’s only one person from each team there today but they won’t be competing on their own. Open up the computers on your pedestals and say hello to your loved ones. Yes, they’ve shrunk them all down and squeezed them inside a laptop case. The challenge today is minds versus muscles!
The contestants at home will be answering health related questions while the contestants at Camp will be holding a rope that holds a basket above the ground. Amber says she doesn’t know anything about that sort of thing, so she’s going to just wing it. Then she has a laugh. As if her stupidity is the most amusing thing in the world.
If the at home contestant gets an answer wrong a 2.5kg weight will be added to the basket. If the basket touches the ground or their feet come off the platform they’re on, they’re out.
And the winning team will receive a 1kg weight advantage at the next weigh in.
Yellow will, of course, not be competing as Anita is in the hospital for tests.
Hayley needs some help with the weights section of the challenge so she’s brought the trainers in to help them. Then she says she’d set the at home contestants a task. A five hour bike ride. The contestant who rode the most kilometres has earned their team an advantage at this challenge.
Richard’s excited. Not because he thinks Amber will have won, simply because it’s five hours or some part thereof that she’ll have exercised. Ha! Optimistic chap.
Yellow rode the least with 68.24km. Next, Blue. 80.2km. Richard’s unimpressed. Green got 100km! Robyn did 108.7km. Mandy smashed them though. 156km! Amazeballs!
So fortunately Brett’s single arm won’t be such a disadvantage. Brett’s also chuffed that his basketball team helped out in the win.
Brett’s basket will start empty while everyone else’s will start with 2 bricks – 5kg in total. Honestly I think they should have scaled it according to where they came in the task. One extra brick for each place behind first!
Mish thinks this task is suited to Richard the best since he’s got the strength and fitness and willpower to dig in. All Amber’s got to do is get most of the answers right…
HAHAHAHAHA!
Tack up the slack, contestants. Gerald’s hoping for that weight advantage because he knows they’re in trouble if they go below the yellow line.
Which breakfast item has the lowest calories? Bowl of fruit and nut muesli with skim milk, two poached eggs with brown bread, two weetbix with skim milk? Weetbix. Everyone gets it right!
Which has the most calories? Cheddar, Feta, Brie? Cheddar! Mandy and Todd are wrong. First bricks go in.
How many kilojoules in one calorie? 3.4, 2.3, 4.2? 4.2! Todd’s wrong again.
Richard then confirms for us that he’d like the green team to go home. Git.
Which sauce has the higher level of sodium? Oyster, Soy, Hoisin. Soy! Todd, Amber and Robyn wrong.
How many fried dim sims do you need to eat to consume over 1,000 calories? 9, 12, 15? 9!
Which of the following desserts has the least calories per serving? Frozen yoghurt, ice cream, gelato? Gelato. “We don’t have gelato in Bendigo” says Todd!
Gerald’s holding 20kg, Richard 10kg, Katie 7.5kg and Brett is on 5kg.
Todd’s getting a lot of answers wrong it seems. Long wrong of getting them all wrong and then finally everyone else gets it wrong!
Gerald’s on 30kg, Richard on 20kg, Katie on 17.5kg and Brett’s up to 12.5kg.
Which of these vegetarian options has the most protein? Quinoa, Tofu, Chickpeas? Tofu!
A regular can of lemonade has how many teaspoons of sugar? 9.5, 6.5, 3.5? 6.5!
And Amber gets that one right. She’d want to after how many cans of it they loaded into their trolley earlier this episode!
And with another wrong answer, Gerald’s out. Too much pain and strain on his body to keep going.
Which of these pastries contains the most saturated fat? 120g danish pastry, 100g muffin, 70g doughtnut. Danish!
Amber’s wrong again!
Katie and Brett are on 22.5kg but because Brett’s only got one arm he’s doing it tough.
Which is the lowest calorie option? Coleslaw with regular dressing, chicken caesar salad, roast pumpkin and chickpea salad. Pumpkin salad!
Amber actually got that right! And Brett has to bow out at last.
Katie’s got her game face on so Richard figures they’re going to be there a while.
Which has the highest fat content? Tablespoon of butter, margarine or olive oil? Olive oil. 20g of fat. In a tablespoon that’s like… the entire thing? Ew.
Which has the most fat? 120g lamington, 170g meat pie, 160g chiko roll? Piiiiiie!
Richard’s not impressed Amber got that wrong. Robyn got it right though!
Katie’s still looking very strong but Richard is clearly struggling with his weight.
What’s a healthy BMI? 18-25, 33-38, 25-33? 18-25!
Amber asks what she’s supposed to know about “body mass weight”? Robyn calls out that they’re on The Biggest Loser!
Katie’s on 35kg.
Which has the most calories? Fried egg. Hard boiled egg. Scrambled egg with milk and butter. Fried egg!
Mish says Richard’s only 5kg off of her bodyweight, she may as well have sat in the basket herself. She’d certainly be prettier than the bricks!
Which has the most carbs? Potato. White rice. White bread. White bread.
Both get it wrong. Terrible.
And Richard’s finally out! Katie and Robyn win a much needed advantage at the weigh in!
Katie flexes afterwards. Or tries to. It’s still just a lump of an arm. Got a ways to go yet!
Hayley says the pressure is now on everyone else. Give 100% and hope your teammate has done the same.
Hayley gives Richard a chance to say something to Amber before it’s time to go and he tells her she needs to work out before weigh in time and Amber says yes. What’s she been doing, he asks? Amber pauses for a moment then says she’s been walking, been to the gym, eating well. Trust her! “Famous last words,” says Michelle.
Sunday night, Richard’s training for two. And what’s wrong with Anita? She doesn’t seem to be coming in at weigh in… Maybe she’s just so short I couldn’t see her! And the Richard-Amber thing is going to explode with Richard getting in Amber’s face about her laziness since becoming an adult.
Don’t forget there’s also an elimination! It’s down to five teams so three above the line, two below. Doesn’t leave much room for mistakes, does it?
