8×17 – Amber is a whining whiny whiner!
Previously on The Biggest Loser Chris and Mark were sent home at the elimination after failing to lose enough weight and falling prey to an alliance within the house.
Tonight Anita and Cher will get their chance at a leap of faith. They didn’t get to do the original leap of faith and they chickened out of doing the abseiling. Looks like they might wuss out of jumping into the pool from a diving platform tonight. Also, Gerald has some sort of shocking revelation to share with Shannan. And The Fridge is promising BIG THINGS tonight. But can it deliver?
But as the episode picks up the contestants are chowing down on a huge lamb roast. Richard tells us he won’t miss Chris and Mark and now they’ve all started calling him King Richard because Mark said he sent the pawn in for the king at elimination. Richard doesn’t mind, thinks it’s all fun mind games.
Next day Commando Steve has Richard and Amber, Brett and Mandy for training out on the lawn. Steve reminds them that alliances don’t matter, just losing the weight to stay above the Yellow Line.
Amber likes training sessions with the Commando because he doesn’t sugarcoat things, tells her what she needs to hear, not what she wants to hear. She’s realised she needs to control her anxiety and it’s controlled her life for so long. She was at the point of not leaving the house or going to work sometimes because she was feeling too anxious or tired and she’s stronger than that, she knows now. Steve asks her how she’s going to change if she goes home and she says she’s going to use those feelings as a weapon in the future instead of letting them control her. Richard tells Amber she’s got to put in that kind of effort every time. The changes she’ll make will last forever!
Next Anita and Cher are off to the pool with Michelle. Sadly Michelle is in her gym gear, not a swimsuit. Can’t win them all! Mish reminds them of the day they were supposed to do the abseil. The other contestants have all had the opportunity to drop some baggage off and now they’re getting a chance to do it, too. Off a 7 metre diving platform into the pool.
Anita has a fear of heights so she’s already getting worried on the way up. The bottom of the pool looks pretty manky, bastards need to clean the pool! Mish tells Anita and Cher that if they can believe in themselves enough to do this they can believe in themselves to do the rest of it.
So Cher’s going to have to go first. Mish thinks it’ll do her self confidence a lot of good. She’s leaving the old version of herself up the top, especially all the bad habits. “Holy Jebus!” Hooray, she says Jebus!
Michelle asks her if she’s ready and she says she’s ready as she’ll ever be. Cher then roars and just jumps off the edge and plunges into the water… and goes so far down she almost touches the bottom. Ooops!
Anita’s turn! She tells Mish she may have just weed a little. Michelle says that’s fine. Grubs!
Mish is trying to encourage her, telling her it’s her leap of faith. She has a fear of heights, Mish knows, but she’s going to face it today. Head on! Anita shuffles up to the edge as Mish counts down and… still can’t go through with it!
Anita doesn’t want to have a fear of heights anymore. But she’s having trouble. She has something to prove to herself though. Michelle gives her another countdown and Anita sort of steps off, sort of tries to not go, but ultimately leaps clear and into the water. She surfaces again and screams in excitement. It’s a big deal for her. Cher thinks it’s a big turning point for the two of them.
Shannan’s got a little surprise for the green and orange teams. Weight vests to do their workouts in. Their weights lost so far hooked on. Robyn’s a bit emotional because they’ve worked so hard to get rid of the weight.
Shannan tells us that nothing’s as confronting as putting the weight back on. Gerald’s first with 33.3kg and asks if it’s not 100kg instead.
Gerald then reveals he was dying before coming on the show. He thought he was going to die, too. Has diabetes and sleep apnoea. Probably no more than five or six years left in him. Life’s hard for some families, Gerald tells us. Then reminds us his daughter has heart problems and so on.
Gerald says it was hard having to sell the nice house they had and pretty much live at the hospital to keep going. He tells Shannan it was too hard to work two jobs and go to the gym and do family life stuff. How’d the family go without him, Shannan asks? Gerald confesses he worked so hard to ensure the mortgage was paid off so the family would be okay when he passes.
That’s… not really that big a revelation, is it.
Anyway they’ve all been transported back in time. Shannan wants them to try running on the treadmills like they can now, but with all that extra weight on them to show them how much it was affecting their lives. Robyn says it’s weighing her down and she feels like an old woman.
They take the vests off and feel much better for the weight being back off. Naturally!
And now it’s time for The Fridge. Robyn and Katie have “the power” of opening the door today. Not really any kind of power, it could be bad!
Robyn and Katie aren’t sure whether or not to open it. Katie doesn’t want the power, Robyn would really like it. Robyn’s sure it won’t be anything too bad because they would have to be able to deal with it.
Not so! Choose 5 contestants to go home immediately!
No doubt a temporary thing, one contestant from each family unit will be sent home to be tempted by STUFF.
After the ad break everyone is still in shock. Katie’s in tears! Hayley then confirms that it’s only sending them home until weigh in. Which is dodgy.
Cher’s bawling. She doesn’t want to be split up from her Mum. Boohoo! Richard says it’s massive and he’s worried that Amber might go home and not stick to the diet.
Katie’s thinking they could play the game here and send people home who won’t cope.
Robyn says it’s a tough choice between Anita and Cher to go home. Either could be wrong but they want to send one home so they can see that everything at home is okay and come back relieved and ready to go.
Katie says Mandy would like to see her husband and other child… and Brett needs to learn how to do his own washing! So Mandy gets to go home.
Robyn’s sending Todd home to see his Mum and sister. Which Todd is excited about, and seeing his mates again.
Amber really wants to see her Mum. Richard would also like to go home and repair his relationship with his wife. But once a Dad, always a Dad, Richard says. So Amber’s going home to see her Mum. Richard says he’ll be alright. He wants her to be happy.
And Robyn will be going home for the orange team because Katie’s not at all ready for this, even for a week.
Mandy says she knows Brett’s not a baby, but she’ll still worry because they came in together!
Gerald’s making sure Todd knows he has to work out a lot while he’s at home. More than he even does at the house.
Cher’s going home to organise her Mum’s kitchen so the bad foods aren’t there to tempt either of them when they get home. Good plan!
Amber’s promised she can do it at home so now she’s got to prove it. Because Richard really wanted to go home!
Todd’s the first to be shown getting home. He decides to surprise them and just wanders into the house and stands around in a doorway while his Mum and sister are sitting around in the kitchen. Conveniently. With cameras around. As you do. Sophie’s the first to give him a big hug. Mum’s too shocked and excited to move! Sophie says Todd looks amazing, he’s lost so much weight already. Mum’s very proud of him too.
Cher arrives home to a hug from her boyfriend. He says, “Hello gorgeous!” Awww!
Mandy turns up to some big gym where her husband and daughter are working out. Had to do a double take because I thought a picture of Lara Croft was on the wall. It wasn’t her. Aww.
Robyn’s really pleased to see her husband. Big hug!
Amber wanders up to her house and knocks on the door and her Mum is very excited and saying she knew it! And Amber’s sister is there to greet her. And another baby from somewhere? Who was less than impressed to see Amber. MANY TEARS AND WAILING!
Then a bit later that day Sophie goes out the back door and conveniently finds a letter for Todd. How convenient!
Yep, they’ve all got letters. Hope they’re enjoying their time at home, they’ve been set a special task though. Five hours to cycle as many kilometres as possible! They can rally friends, family and community to share the load or they can complete the task themself. The contestant that cycles the most will win a big advantage at the challenge.
Amber’s pissed. Says it’s stupid. She was going to spend time shopping and catching up with friends and family and now she can’t. Because she has to cycle for five hours. Which she should be doing far more than while she’s home for days and days anyway. Idiot. Utter idiot.
And Amber’s sister agrees! She says she’s disappointed in Amber’s attitude to the challenge. It’s a bit of the old Amber coming back. Amber says all the people who’ve been sent home have been misled! It’s a ridiculously stupid challenge, for five hours, it’s time she could have been spending with her family. Oh no!
Robyn’s turned up to her old job at the bus terminal to try and round up some support from her old colleagues.
Cher’s grabbing some schoolkids from where her Mum works. Some of the primary school age kids look a little bit scared of the giant Cher. That may play in her favour when it comes to churning out some kilometres! They’re also hoping the teachers who like Anita will be able to pitch in.
Amber’s not made any phone calls to try and drag people into it. She didn’t see any point to it. But it’s set up in front of a shopping centre for some reason…
Todd’s is set up on the mound at a baseball diamond. Only him, his Mum and Sophie are there. Mandy’s got her husband and daughter there to support her. The husband in particular can probably whack out a bunch since he looks like a very fit old fella!
Robyn tells her colleagues she’s not greedy, when anyone else wants to have a go, they can speak up. She knows she didn’t share her chocolate but she’ll share the bike!
For the first hour Mandy and her husband are just trading off. She thought that’s all they’d have.
Cher’s got her kids pedalling away on the bikes. They’re having lots of fun. Then Cher’s boyfriend gets on the bike and one of the kids takes over the role of trainer, motivating him to go faster! One hour down and Cher’s group has done 18km.
One hour down and it looks like Amber might have done 8. At most. Her Mum’s off trying to recruit some other people to take some time on the bike and Amber’s still completely annoyed by the whole thing. Awesome attitude. Really taking one for the team. Hope you’re under that Yellow Line as a result, lazy tit!
Mandy thinks her biggest competitor will be Todd because he’s young and his mates would be young and fit. Yeah, wasn’t Todd constantly bullied at school and kind of a Todd Nofriends? Hmm. His Mum’s bringing him water and ice and sunscreen while he pedals away. He’s doing it tough out there on the mound. Think it’s kind of stupid having him out there for five hours, he could have done it in the shade. Have the producers heard of the risks associated with excessive sun exposure? Not just skin cancer but heat exhaustion!
Cher’s school is actually her old school too. She was up to about 90kg in primary. Eep! She had some good times and also bad times because she was bullied. She’s wondering if some of the kids there might not be going through the same things. There’s one little ranga who’s looking a bit chubby but most of them are skinny, surprisingly enough!
Robyn’s looking really good her husband says and she’s a going to be a good influence for a lot of people, he thinks. Robyn says she’s not just losing the weight she’s getting rid of the rubbish in her head, too. And people are noticing the changes so it must be a big transformation.
Mandy’s daughter is very proud of her Mum. She’s never seen her attempt something so impressive so it was great to see.
Todd’s grandparents come to visit him out on the mound and are also super proud of him. But then they have to get off the ground again because it’s much too hot out there. Yet Todd’s still pedalling away!
Amber’s still doing a half arsed job. Getting some other lazy fat people to do some of her time. At least she’s eating an apple while watching, not a chocolate bar. A big… Indian?… man is having a grand old time, singing as he cycles along. And a Woolies girl comes out on her skirt to take a turn. Lucky it’s a knee length skirt. And a kind camera angle!
Lots of people are turning up to have a go for Robyn’s cycling.
And then some of Brett’s basketball mates turn up to do some time on the cycle as well. Mandy’s not met these guys before, but they’re characters, she says. Their team is called the Airballs, apparently. They came in after work instead of going home to their families. One of them says they need Brett back on the team and if he’s looking as good as Mandy he’s excited to see him back.
And then finally some baseball guys turn up to support Todd. Hooray! Todd’s sure he’ll be a better player when he’s done with the show. His Mum suggests baseball training will be easy in the future but his mate says no, he’ll just have to work harder and Todd agrees!
All the schoolkids have to go home now so it’s just Cher and her friends now. And Cher’s back is hurting a lot from the spinbike. Awww.
Whole bunch of people turn up for Todd, school mates mostly. Sure has a lot of mates. Some of them are even GIRLS!
Amber’s fat Mum finally gets on the spinbike and instantly complains about it hurting her bum. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree then?
Five minutes to go and the crowd is cheering him on, which he’s thrilled by.
Now that it’s almost over Amber’s finally pedalling above a snail’s pace. Not sure she’s even broken a sweat in the entire five hours.
Robyn’s overwhelmed with emotion afterwards. Says you don’t realise how much people care sometimes. Todd thanks all his supporters. Not that most of them were even there very long! But I think he’s got a few admirers among the laaaadies.
Mandy’s not sure if she’s won or not but she’s sure they’ve done very well!
Tomorrow night Michelle is trying to push Richard to greater efforts by pointing out that Amber might not be working out at all! Then one of those hold up weight while your partner is quizzed challenges. Presumably the task will influence how much weight they start the challenge with? And a medical emergency puts one team OUT OF THE COMPETITION?!
Meep!
