8×15 – Row row row your boat or you’ll be pigs in mud!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Janet and Kirsten were eliminated and Temptation returned, much to the consternation of… well, just Katie, really. But boy howdy was she consternated!

Tonight! If you play, you pay. And Michelle’s going to make them pay! Then it’ll be a parents versus kids rowing and boat pushing on sand race type thing. Expect dramas over who’s putting in the most effort, who’s putting in the least effort and who smells funny.

Michelle comes to training and the kids are already training, which she finds strange. So Mish quizzes them about the fridge, finds out about Temptation and says in the real world, temptations are everywhere. Mish’s sessions are already hard, Amber says, so she’s terrified what will happen when she reveals she took part.

Shannan’s got the parents, who have a spring in their step from not taking part. Shannan says it’s a good thing for the contestants to understand, that temptation will be there sometimes and you’ve got to deal with it. He asks them if any of them really wanted some. Richard says he picked up and smelled a sausage roll. But he wasn’t tempted by any of it. He was thinking about the gameplay side of things, because Immunity was up for grabs, but in the end none of the parents caved.

Two of the kids did, though. As Michelle is now finding out! Todd confesses first, saying he had two lollies for 33 calories and then Amber admitted to her 52 calories and winning Immunity.

Amber tells us she feels like she let Michelle down a little bit. But it’s done now!

Most of the contestants are okay with it now, Katie’s starting to get over it. Katie took it personally, she tells us, because she felt like Amber broke the group’s trust.

Lots of jumping and jogging on the spot and weights and stuff today.

And then Mish reminds us that she’s always said if you play, you pay! Both Amber and Todd are knackered but Mish isn’t through with them. Did they stop when they were in Temptation? No! They went ahead and did it. Both Amber and Todd aren’t performing their best today and Mish thinks Temptation might be playing with their mind. They had lots of trash talk about beating the parents this week, taking them “downtown to china town”, now prove it!

Shannan’s got the parents trying to beat their kids results from yesterday. Robyn’s running as fast as one of the kids did yesterday, apparently. So that’s pretty impressive. Shannan asks her if she can go half a kilometre an hour faster to take the crown and she says she might be able to. Richard says wiser, faster, stronger! Robyn gets back on the treadmill and smashes it. I reckon she’s got another half a km/h in her!

Amber’s stopped again saying she needs to spew but Mish is having none of it saying she’s not going to spew, if she can talk she won’t spew, Mish knows a spewer!

Amber’s wondering how four malt balls makes her feel so sick. Mark says maybe it’s guilt but Amber doesn’t feel guilty. And why should she? It was 52 calories and she guaranteed her and her Dad another week in the house. Well worth it!

Richard’s had a crook back for two weeks and hasn’t run in that time, so it’ll be a good workout for him to try and equal Todd’s record of 17km/h. He manages to get to equal footing with Todd, but will he go one more?

Michelle has her kids kicking at air. I sure hope nobody gets in that air. Perhaps someone flailing their arms like windmills…

Mish thinks Katie is actually upset over something else, not Amber doing Temptation. Mish says the one absolute way to stay above the yellow line is to train hard, eat clean and show Mish what you’ve got!

Richard’s going for Todd’s record on the treadmill. Shannan’s egging him on, saying it’s time to be the role model he needs to be. Yes, he has Immunity but he’s still got to lose the weight! Richard’s quite proud of himself after that!

Katie’s dry heaving into the bucket back in the kids gym. After she’s done Mish asks her what really scares her and Katie says, going home. Katie doesn’t leave the house much, she doesn’t like it. She goes online, plays her games, locks herself in her room where she can be whatever she wants to be. Katie’s scared because she still has 40kg to lose. She thinks if she can lose at least half that it’ll be more achievable at home, so she doesn’t want to go home before then. Mish says that’s “her truth” and now they’ve got something to work with. They can set the plan for her at Camp and when she goes home.

Mish wants them all to face the fear of going home. They’ve got to go home eventually. They’re all scared of falling back into old habits, except Brett who says he’s not afraid of it, though he knows he’s not ready yet.

Mish wants them to think of where they’re going, rather than where they’ve come from.

Next day it’s challenge day. Everyone piles into the boring whitegreyblack cars and heads to the beach! On a day of seriously rough surf. Cloudy and horrible. What a miserable day to be crashing through the waves!

Hayley tells them the teams will be in an epic battles, parents versus kids, the final battle before the weigh in. It’ll test their strength, speed and stamina. There’s two surf boats behind her and today they’ll be rowing them.

Meanwhile the surf continues crashing on the beach and the contestants are thinking even the professionals wouldn’t go out in it. Actually, they do. And then some of them die. And then they do it again next year anyway. Because SPORTS!

Hayley then tells them they can rest easy, they won’t be rowing on the big surf side of the bay, they’ll go to the calm side of the bay to do the challenge. Each team has to choose four members to row around a series of buoys for a distance of 2 kilometres. Then they have to drag their boat 300 metres down the beach and back. And they’ll only get one inflatable roller to help them!

And the team that is first across the line will get a luxurious, low calorie meal served up. Complete with a view! A view of the losing team going through a training session devised by all three trainers so it’s going to be tough!

Cher’s been ruled out for medical reasons (unstated) so the adults have to sit one person out too. They pick Mandy as she’s been having a rough time with her knees.

As they get out onto the water Katie almost tips the kids boat while trying to hop in. Could have been a quick end to the race!

The parents are off to a cracking start as the kids go wildly off course due to not keeping a consistent rhythm. Katie almost wears her oar handle at one point as she didn’t know to turn the handle to assist in lifting it back up.

But the kids have started to gain ground. Or water, I guess. Katie says the slower you row the faster you go because it’s not a speed or strength thing. Yeah, that’s completely wrong, but okay.

Amber’s considering giving up a couple of times because she can’t keep control of her oar and her whole body is hurting. The kids boat goes out wide around the buoys so the adults cut in along the shorter route, bringing them both back to equal footing. Until Chris loses control of his oar which pushes him flat back on his back and then pushes Robyn behind him down.

But the parents recover and get back into a good rhythm, yet the kids have got a good lead now and are heading into the beach, ready to disembark and head off for the running portion of the race. Mark and Todd hop out of their side first causing the girls side of the boat to tip them off into the water, much to the girls’ shock!

Oh, I see, they run back across to the choppy side of the bay and push their big wooden lifesaving boats down the shoreline. I thought they were going to push the one they rowed!

Todd’s the first back onto the first beach, followed by Brett and Mark… and then Robyn! Go Robyn!

The kids have only just started pushing their boat along when Chris arrives back on the beach and the adults gear up to start pushing.

Robyn’s amazed by how heavy the boat is, but it’s a really solid looking boat. Not so surprising!

Katie wants the satisfaction of seeing the parents get tortured by the trainers if they lose… but the parents have quickly closed the gap and are pushing ahead.

Brett’s one of the people pushing the kid boat though. With his bung wrist. So he’s sort of a handicap for the kids where the adults don’t have anyone to look after.

The parents get to the halfway mark and take a short break to get some water before turning back to head towards the finish line.

But the kids aren’t giving up! They still think they’re in with a chance. They’re going to have to do a lot better than they have been…

After another ad break the kids still think they can win. And maybe they can, the parents are finding it a lot tougher on the trip back. The water’s crashing up onto the beach and lapping at their legs a few times. They push their boat a bit further up the beach to get an easier run of it. A shot from the finish line shows the kids a good 50 metres behind the adults but shots from alongside the parents, supposedly from the same time, shows them bare metres behind. Dodgy as hell.

Katie said in the end it didn’t come down to who won or lost it was about determination and finishing it and blah blah blah. Yeah, you’re only saying that because the parents absolutely smashed the kids!

The parents are very happy to have won and are looking forward to their dinner and watching the kids work out while they have noms!

Amber thinks the parents should have let them win. Katie says it’ll get whipped out at 21sts and 40ths, puts on an old lady voice and says “I remember when you lost that surf boat race!”

The parents get to go back to Camp for their lovely dinner. The kids will have to go do their training session from hell!

Oooh, they’ve put some extra mud out in a patch on the lawn for the contestants to work out on. Should be fun!

Mish says the kids were going to bring it, but they got whooped by their parents. The parents will now get a fabulous dinner and the kids will get a fabulous work out. Katie says it was like a mob execution. All the bosses were sitting at the table, the three executioners lined up.

Mish says the parents have to cut the apron strings tonight and Richard says they’re cut, have them, kill them! Shannan tells the parents that as an extra part of their reward at any time they can chime in with any special requests. Nice!

Time to start the dinner/training!

First up, crawl from one end of the mud pit to the other. Cher asks if he means on the grass or… no, in the mud! He says she has a sore bum, not a sore gut!

Mark’s not there tonight due to a knee injury he suffered in the challenge. Didn’t see that? Hmm.

Cher’s started crawling through the mud and tells us mud is gross. Yes, it is, but so is being your size. Get to work!

After an ad break… Todd loves mud! Amber’s not getting down onto the ground properly so Shannan tackles her and flops on top with the tackle mat to get her extra muddy!

The parents are eating something from Michelle’s cookbook! And they say it’s delicious since they didn’t cook it themselves.

So, any special requests? Sure, Richard says, can the kids roll their way across the mud pit? Todd rolls really fast… until Shannan tackles him again with the tackle mat to much laughter all round.

Michelle’s loving the session, has the kids lifting logs up, in the mud and the dark.

Cher’s not loving it so much, there’s three trainers for just five contestants so there’s no getting away with anything.

Commando Steve is bringing back the Commando of old. Lots of yelling and shouting and making sure they do the exercises PROPERLY. Mish tries to count a burpee but Steve says it wasn’t good enough, they’ve got to do it again.

Any last requests, Steve asks? Chris says yep! Hose them down. Steve grins and goes running for the huge hose. He turns it on the contestants and then Todd has the smart idea to charge at him, making the water spray everywhere. After Todd is turned aside Katie makes a run at hime too and eventually Katie and Amber catch up to Michelle and give her a huge muddy hug while Michelle laughs her arse off. Todd takes one last slide through the mud and then that’s it for the night.

Sunday night there’s some animosity in the weigh in room with accusations of deals being done. Oooh! DRAMA!
