8×12 – PIGS! IN! MUUUUUUUUUUUUUD!!!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Gerald and Todd claimed their Fridge and can weigh themselves whenever they want this week.

Also the contestants had the chance to abseil down the side of the AMP building though not all the contestants managed to take the plunge.

Tonight! They’re going to sit around reading their stupid letters from home. BORING.

And then they’ll go do a kickass obstacle course. Supposedly the toughest one in the world but I bet there’s some military ones out there that are a wee bit more challenging!

But first, recapped footage of people doing their abseiling yesterday instead of getting straight back to whether Robyn and Katie will do it after Anita and Cher piked out.

Robyn’s fear of heights is debilitating, she says. Meanwhile the cameraman is already hanging over the edge waiting to see if they’re going to go down. Yet she’s worried about doing it without a camera!

GET ON WITH IT. Do it or not, decide!

Steve’s in Robyn’s ear telling her to trust herself. Robyn drives a bus with so many people on it, they put their trust in her every day. It’s time for her to trust herself. Katie’s ready to go but she’s in tears seeing her Mum panic. Robyn finally agrees to go down the building so long as Commando Steve does it too!

Robyn’s in the middle of Katie and Steve on the way down. Katie thinks that was a bit of a safety net for her Mum. Steve says it’s inspiring to see her get to the edge and start to walk down the wall.

All three of them finally head down. Well, four if you include the cameraman! And Robyn even manages to have a look around while she’s on the way down. And is going down faster than Steve!

Robyn thought maybe she wasn’t a great role model for Katie but she had a debilitating fear and she got over it, which you can do if you have to, so she’s proud of herself.

At the bottom they look way up the building and boggle at how far they’ve abseiled. Robyn doesn’t think much can hold her back now!

After the abseil they’re sitting around in some random room to open their letters. Snore.

Robyn has a letter from her husband. He hopes she’s not being cheeky to the trainers.

Richard’s is from his wife. She calls him Dick. Presumably because it is a normal nickname for someone named Richard, and not because he’s a dick. The Mum couldn’t do The Biggest Loser with Amber because they support each other too much and so they’d let the other get away with too much. Where Richard won’t.

Gerald’s is from his daughter. She thought it would be good sending the boys away but she hates it. It’s been very hard for her without him there. She has heart problems and spina bifida, if you’ve forgotten. Gerald has to give the letter to Robyn to finish reading it. Sophie had her first operation without Gerald being there and she didn’t get an infection, she says. So that’s good! She’s 18 and now it’s time for him to look after himself instead of her.

Brett’s is from…? Talking about him breaking his arm. Oh, it’s from his Dad. He’s proud of him.

Chris’ is from his daughter, Claire. Lots of people in his life love him and care for him. Aww. She’s glad he’s there for Mark in a way he hasn’t been since he was 10!

Janet’s is from her husband. He loves her and he always will. Aww!

BOOOOOOOOOOORING. So boring. People always miss their families when they’re away from them. Well, normal people do. I don’t!

Anyway, time for Gerald and Todd to do a mid week weigh in. Commando Steve’s in there to oversee it. Even though it’s just the two of them they’re still doing it in the weigh in room on the fake scales. Unless they’re finally real scales? Hahaha, I kid, I kid. They don’t want to be near the Yellow Line because they know they’ll be going home if they do, because they’re a big threat. Their diets and exercise have been spot on!

Gerald: 129.2kg -1.6kg Todd: 95.7kg +0.7kg

Todd is mystified. His diet has been right and he’s been doing heaps of exercise. Gerald wonders if he’s been eating more stuff he shouldn’t be but Todd reckons he hasn’t.

Commando Steve says Todd may have been “caught out” just after a meal or a big drink or something. They usually do Last Chance Training right before weigh in and they haven’t this time. So it’s probably not as bad as it appears. But if it was the real weigh in, they’d be gone and they know it.

Time for Supersize Week’s challenge. Into the cars and they’re out at the Spartan Race course!

Hayley says it’s the hardest challenge they’ve ever set on Biggest Loser and it’s also the hardest in the world. It’s the most gruelling race in the world. Really, even more than a marathon? Or an ultra marathon? Don’t be stupid.

It’s a 3km course. Mountains of mud, spear throwing and facing off against gladiators on the way. And you have to work as a team. Each contestant can only start the next obstacle when their partner has finished the last one.

The winning team today will get a 1kg weight advantage. And the last two teams will get a 0.5kg weight penalty at the next weigh in. After how close the last one was, that could be a big deal!

Brett’s at the hospital having his fracture assessed again so Mandy’s hoping she’s exempt… but she isn’t, she just gets to run it by herself. Richard tries to encourage her by saying that at least she doesn’t have to wait for Brett! She’s a bit scared still.

Steve lives for this stuff, of course. He says this can either be a great day or a miserable day, depends on your attitude to it.

Gerald and Todd take an early lead. Steve says it’s no big surprise that Todd’s in the lead but Gerald keeping up is good!

Robyn and Katie are struggling over the early hills. Katie’s holding back, worried she’d fall over and hurt people or something. Robyn’s turned into a crazy lady since doing the abseil, she says. She’s pushing her way through the pack and leaving Katie behind a bit!

Gerald and Todd are still in the lead but Mark can smell Gerald’s shoes, so they’re close he reckons!

Cher’s sliding down a hill on her butt and she’s torn something, she thinks. Shannan didn’t see her do anything serious so he thinks she might just be having another of her freakouts. But Cher’s telling us that it feels like her muscles are tearing apart. How would she even know what that feels like? Would have thought all the cushioning would have stopped anything serious happening!

Poor Shannan’s trying to help her up out of the pit but pushing her up the hill which is causing Cher more pain. She can’t even enjoy having Shannan’s hands on her butt! Anita asks her if she thinks she can keep going at a walk but Cher says nope as we go to the ad break.

Cher says it’s harder when everyone thinks she’s just giving up. Anita’s frustrated in the little side bit. As we go back to the course we see Shannan ask Anita if she wants to keep going by herself, she has to decide now. Anita says yes without hesitation and leaps down the hill, chasing after everyone as best she can. Shannan says he’s never seen her work so hard in a training session!

Gerald says he bets the other teams probably think he can’t do it but he’s determined to keep going and show them up.

Richard and Amber are in second place as they finish the muddy hills and muddy puddles section. Getting out is the hardest part though. Amber falls back in a couple of times but eventually Richard gets Amber to put her arms around his neck and they just sort of roll their way up and out of the pit!

Janet and Kirsten are just ahead of Mandy. Janet’s wanting to reach a hand back and help her but Mandy’s in second last place and they can’t risk falling behind.

Meanwhile Shannan’s running the course with Anita. I assume they can’t win or be not-last since Cher won’t complete the course but hopefully with a bit of encouragement Anita can get it done!

Mark and Chris are stuck in the last hole for a few minutes while the other teams didn’t take so long. But they get out of the mud pit and start up “Hell Hill”.

Mish has taken on the task of helping and encouraging Mandy up the back of the pack. Mandy says it was good to have her there because she might have given up otherwise.

Steve’s way up the front getting Gerald and Todd running along and calling for Richard and Amber to catch up, which Gerald is worrying they might because Richard can run quite fast and Amber, if her head is in the right place, is quite something too.

Mandy’s struggling with the last bank up out of the mud pit. Michelle’s trying to anchor her and help her up as she obviously wouldn’t make it without help as none of the other teams managed it on their own.

Kirsten’s up the top of Hell Hill and Janet’s still chuffing along. Kirsten’s not starting the down slope without her Mum though!

Time for Gerald and Todd to do the spear throwing. You’ve got to throw one spear and get it to jam into a hay bale. Fun! But neither boy is having much luck to start with, either missing the hay bale or not getting the spear to stick in.

Gerald finally gets the hang of it after an ad break and executes a lovely throw right to the middle of the hay bale. Well done!

Amber’s had a lazy streak for twenty years, Richard says, so she’s got to be pushed. Amber says she’ll get faster though!

Next bit is a lake with a rope across it they can pull themselves along with. Todd’s floating along while pulling himself through the water but Gerald is walking it while he gets his breath back. Richard catches up to the boys on the other side of the lake but Amber’s still swimming across.

Shannan’s giving Anita a lot of help to get up out of the pit. But it’s not quite enough help and Hayley gets down in the mud and helps too! As she makes it out of the pit Shannan gives her a hearty slap on the arse and they’re off to chase Mandy!

Mandy’s trying to catch up to the pink girls still. She knows there’s a lot of stronger teams but so long as she doesn’t come in the bottom two, she’s okay with that!

Meanwhile Janet and Kirsten are crossing the lake and Kirsten is freaking out, I guess because the water is pretty grubby and she’s a princess?

Gerald and Todd are up to some netting to crawl across, the first bit suspended between some shipping containers. Richard and Amber aren’t far behind but Gerald’s hoping Amber will have a harder time than them and thus open the gap out a bit more.

Meanwhile the surf lifesaver is patrolling the shore of the flat-as-fuck lake while Michelle and Mandy swim across. Janet’s stuck in the mud on the far side. But she pulls her shoe free eventually.

Back in the lead Gerald and Todd are slogging through some swampy marshy muddy grass. Gerald knows this will be tough for him!

Kirsten’s freaking out at the cargo net because she’s been in a hammock before and flipped over so she was worried that’s what would happen here. It doesn’t, of course.

Gerald and Todd crash through the brush and suddenly a gladiator jumps out and starts flailing one of those big sticks with padded rolls on either end. Todd smartly grabs hold of the stick so the guy and girl can’t give his Dad too much of a hard time.

Anita’s about two minutes behind Mandy, somehow? So she’s trying to push hard and make up some more time.

Now it’s time for balance beams floating on the water. Todd and Gerald both cross without incident, quite quickly even, holding onto their lead.

Richard and Amber are slower to cross. Amber’s very tired by this stage. Robyn and Katie are not far behind the pair and Robyn thinks she was maybe going to be able to catch up and rock the pontoons to get Amber to fall off. But that would be naughty! And Amber makes it across before they can anyway.

Gerald and Todd are up to crawling underneath some barbed wire and into the final stretch!

Richard’s not too far behind but Amber’s still a bit slow, of course.

There’s two weakass gladiators between the boys and the finish line but they prove very little obstacle to the green lads who cross the finish line in first place!

Richard and Amber push and shove their way through the gladiators and cross in second place. Robyn and Katie run over the gladiators with probably the most ease of all. Robyn says it was a wonderful way to finish, two big burly men hitting them with sticks!

Janet and Kirsten are crawling up a soggy hill. Kirsten almost disappears into the mud to her knees and thinks she’s stuck but Steve tells her to get her centre of gravity forward and crawl her way out, which works!

Mandy’s going up the hill as best she can while the pink girls are almost up the top. Mish is talking about how wonderful and liberating it is to be doing this by herself. Especially when there’s mud involved. I think Mish has finally gone completely crazy!

Mark and Chris cross in 4th place. Anita’s still struggling across the netting, so she’s a bit crushed. She’s still hoping she can catch up to Mandy but as Mandy is right behind Janet and Kirsten who are almost finished, that seems unlikely.

Mandy gets to the barbed wire and starts to roll underneath it calling out that she’s a PIG IN MUD!

Anita finally gets to the end of the netting and and catches her foot right near the very end and falls flat on her face. Literally, she has a rope burn on her nose from where she smashed her face. One of the crew suggests getting a medic to look her over before she continues but Anita says she doesn’t have time for that!

As Mandy finishes the barbed wire bit Robyn and Janet have come back to encourage her and help her get past the gladiators. Mandy’s very appreciative of their support, despite them being competitors and all!

Mandy finishes in second last place so her and Brett will have the 0.5kg penalty.

Then Anita gets to the final area and Kirsten, Katie and Amber are all running shepherd for her. She’s exhausted afterwards but thrilled to have completed the course. Now she just wants to see Cher and give her a hug. Awww.

Cher’s walking around, if you’re wondering. Can’t be too badly injured, then. Cher knows she let the yellow team down today/

Now they’re finished the medics have a look at her nose, check it’s not broken. It’s a bit red and bumpy but not crooked or anything. She’ll be fine. Might have a fun bruise tomorrow! Shannan’s very proud of Anita’s effort today because she didn’t quit in the entire race and never made an excuse for not being able to do it.

Sunday night Last Chance Training! Then a weigh in. And a shock on the scales! And an elimination!

So like all the Sundays so far then!
