8×10 – ROSEMARY ANGRY. ROSEMARY SMASH!

Previously on The Biggest Loser all the contestants got soaked in the challenge but Janet and Kirsten won, earning themselves immunity!

Tonight! Explosions! Amber wants out of the show even though she only just survived elimination. Everyone’s telling her she’s not working hard enough and Mish says it’s because she’s not. Go Mish!

Also a bombshell at weigh in – the trainers will be the ones to send a team home, not the contestants. Michelle doesn’t want to, Steve seems content to do it.

As the show starts Shannan has a couple of groups in for Last Chance Training. Each pair has to do 600 reps of the various repetition stages and 8km on the treadmills and cross trainers. He’s looking to hit every part of their bodies. He was disappointed in Kevin’s efforts at the challenge. He only held the chain up for 15 seconds. Shannan says it wasn’t Kevin’s body that gave up, it was his mind. Kevin’s been using every excuse in the book to get out of training, Shannan tells us, but today he’s doing a lot better.

Rosemary says Kevin’s pushing himself now and it’s lovely to see.

Shannan’s pleased Kevin put in a full workout for a change instead of playing the heaviest contestant ever card. Kevin’s knackered at the end but the workout isn’t over. Now it’s time to hold a weight above his head with one hand like he had to do at the challenge. Shannan’s trying to get in his head and tell him it’s not hurting, he’s doing fine, he can cope with it. And he finally has to give up at one minute ten seconds, but Shannan says that’s 4 times longer than he managed at the challenge, even after smashing a workout.

Michelle’s got her people out on the lawn throwing around sandbags. No lie, that looks like a lot of fun. Whoosh! Mish says Richard and Amber have been below the Yellow Line for two weeks and she doesn’t want to see it happen again. But there’s been tension between the two of them and so Mish needs to get to the bottom of it.

Richard says Amber doesn’t like being told what to do and Amber immediately says that’s not it, it’s that the conversation is the same every day. He nags her to train apparently and she thinks she has been. Michelle doesn’t agree! Amber starts the waterworks and Mish tells her she’s getting upset because she knows she hasn’t been putting in her best effort.

Amber insists she’s crying because she’s frustrated. Mish says her Dad is putting in the hard work and she’s not matching it. Amber disagrees and says she’s sick of being told she’s not working out. Mish says here comes the sixteen year old! Amber finally stomps off while Mish tries to call her back, saying she always walks away from things, right? Nooo, Mish is just going to tell Amber she’s not working hard enough. Etc. It’s a really boring argument. If the lazy Richard is working harder than her then you’ve got to wonder how much work she’s really doing!

Oh, also, Mish has her “JFDI” hat on today. Hooray!

Mish chases her down eventually and asks if she’ll come back to training and she says nope. She was excited to train this morning and now she’s not. Mish says Amber’s blaming her and her Dad now, stop being the victim, it’s time to change. The behaviours she’s exhibited to date aren’t working. Mish asks her again if they’re on and Amber gets up and heads back to training, finally!

Mish tells her they’ve still got to have respect for each other and Amber says she does, she’s just annoyed with Michelle right now. Mish says there’s always someone else to be annoyed at! Her exercise is pushing a wheelbarrow up a shallow hill with a single sandbag in it. Mish wants her to jog but she goes at a slow shuffle. Sigh.

Mish says it’s time for them to have a chat afterwards, Amber and Richard. Amber doesn’t want to, she reckons they’re good. But then Richard opens up about how they promised each other they’d do it. Amber insists she’s been trying her hardest but she feels like she has all the pressure on her. Richard says he’ll take all the pressure, his arms are the strongest in the world when it comes to her. Mish tells us Richard might finally be changing his parenting style, not trying to be Amber’s mate, just her Dad. Richard says he knows he’s annoying her but he’s got to keep driving her. He’s doing it out of love though! Mish is thrilled he could let his guard down and say all that but she wishes Amber could let her guard down to hear it!

And now, time for weigh in!

And as the camera shows Hayley the first time an unfortunate distortion on my teevee made it look like she has four boobs. Just thought you should know!

Janet and Kirsten have had a big week! The girls have had visits from the men they love and then they won the challenge, earning themselves immunity! Of course if either girl has put on weight they lose immunity!

Janet: 92.9kg 1.3kg Kirsten: 87.2kg 1.7kg Total: 3kg 1.64%

Definitely safe and not a bad result, given their weights and the third week blues! Janet’s been loving the boxing training though Shannan says her husband didn’t love it so much!

Richard: 121.5kg 4.6kg Amber: 101.6kg 1.4kg Total: 6kg 2.62%

First place, for now. Richard’s got a good result but Amber’s is a little disappointing. Richard says they’ve had a rough week but Amber’s not a child, she can do what she wants. But while she’s in there, she’ll take advantage of this opportunity, like he says!

Chris: 132.2kg 2.6kg Mark:  138.7kg 3.7kg Total: 6.3kg 2.27%

Second place. Mark’s thrilled he’s under 140kg. He did worse than Richard who is almost under 120kg…

Next, Rosemary and Kevin. This should be interesting!

Rosemary: 91.6kg 0.2kg Kevin: 239.3kg 2.2kg Total: 2.4kg 0.72%

That is ABYSMAL. Seriously. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen such a woeful result. Kevin’s disappointed. He was hoping for 7kg or at least 5kg. Says he’s been training hard and his Mum has been helping him stay “closer” to the diet plan. Hmmm.

Shannan says he summed it up – he’s sticking CLOSER to… he needs to stick to the plans, fullstop. Mish asks if there’s extra food going on outside the three main meals. Kevin says he hasn’t been having his snacks. Popcorn chicken’s gone, Mish asks? Kevin says yes. Not sure I believe him! Mish doesn’t believe him either.

Gerald and Todd next. Should be a good result, they work hard.

Gerald: 130.8kg 6.2kg Todd: 95kg 4.3kg Total: 10.5kg 4.44%

That’s what we’re talking about! Top of the leaderboard. Todd says he knew they’d worked hard that week so they were prepared to accept the result. They’re obviously still really chuffed though! Shannan says there’s a certain level of confidence when you get up there knowing you’ve done everything you can.

Anita: 106.1kg 1.9kg Cher: 160.5kg 0.5kg Total: 2.4kg 0.89%

Fifth place, just above Rosemary and Kevin. Anita feels a bit ripped off because they’ve worked hard and their meals are reduced so much. Anita’s really scared because she knows Cher’s not ready to go home. Anita can see that Cher’s annoyed, wondering what she’s done all that work for. But she has to push forward. Mish says they’re at the crossroads, they can say it’s too hard and give up or they can try harder. Steve asks them what she’ll do next week, give up? Nope. Go harder!

Robyn: 95.6kg 2.4kg Katie: 117.7kg 3.3kg Total: 5.7kg 2.6%

Third place, definitely safe. Katie’s very excited when her result comes up!

Rosemary and Kevin are definitely below the line and Michelle’s annoyed at Kevin’s comment before they got up – he knew they’d done the work to get there. He says if he survives this week the girls should kick him up the bum every time they go for training. Mish asks him why they should? Kevin admits he probably should be doing it himself…

Last to weigh in, Mandy and poor old Brett with his broken arm. Hayley says that Brett had major surgery but Brett says he was out of training a couple of days but his diet has been spot on and he’s done the training he can so he won’t be blaming the injury. Mandy says it’s effectively one person against couples but she’s hopeful! They’ll need at least 2.4kg to stay safe. That’s doable, even with Brett’s injury. Could be close though!

Mandy: 97kg 2.3kg Brett: 160kg 6kg Total: 8.3kg 3.13%

Wow, second place! Maybe someone should break Brett’s other arm! So it’s the two heavyweight teams below the line, interesting. Especially with Cher being a quitter and Kevin constantly pigging out. How will they choose who to send home?!

Then Hayley drops the bomb… Elimination twist! Never been done before. Tonight’s elimination will be decided by the trainers!

OUCH. Steve’s grinning. Michelle looks sick. Shannan just looks stunned.

Michelle says she’s a trainer, she’s here to help people, not send them home. Shannan says he’s the same. He’s got no interest in it. Commando Steve says if that’s what he’s got to do, he’ll do it. Mish rolls her eyes.

Mish tells us she doesn’t want to do it. She’s there as a trainer, not a contestant.

Mish is livid backstage and asks who’s great idea was this? They’ve got the heaviest guy and girl they’ve ever had, who wants to send them home? Steve looks like he agrees but he’s a bit more pragmatic about it. Part of the job and so on. Shannan doesn’t want to look in one of the parent’s eyes as he sends their kid home.

As we go to ad break Michelle insists she can’t be forced to do anything she doesn’t want to do. Best check the contract, quick smart!

Anita and Cher, Rosemary and Kevin are in the Elimination Room with Hayley. They’re just waiting on the trainers.

But will the trainers turn up? Hayley looks off camera and asks someone if there’s any idea whether they’re actually coming. That they left it in must mean there was quite a delay!

The doors finally open and all three trainers come in, presumably after a very long chat with the producers!

Michelle is visibly seething. Shannan still looks annoyed. Steve looks his usual cool self!

They’ll each be asked to vote and if they all refuse to vote the team with the lowest percentage will be sent home, which means Rosemary and Kevin. If the trainers still vote you know there was a deal done.

Shannan says they’ve been fighting to give the contestants the tools they need to stay in the game and get healthy and to send one home goes against everything they stand for. Michelle says she belongs in the gym, not in the elimination room.

Steve says they’ve been asked to vote, so what do the contestants have to say for themselves?

Anita says she wants to be there to turn their lives around. It’s got to be a lifetime thing, too. She knows Cher is tempted to go home but Anita’s scared shitless Cher thinks she can do it at home, and Anita’s not sure she really can. Cher says she wants to be there but there’s not a lot of commitment in that. She breaks down in tears and says she also wants to go home but she needs to stay and learn.

Rosemary says Kevin’s been training hard. Mish and Shannan have given him some confidence. Michelle says sometimes the trainers feel like they’re doing more parenting than the actual parents! Kevin says he can’t leave yet. His head’s starting to get into it. His Mum can’t promise he’ll give 100% but he can and he does. Shannan says he almost believes him. Michelle quizzes him further, asking if he’ll do the work it’ll take to change, really? So why hasn’t he started yet? Why hasn’t he been following the meal plan Shannan set for him to the letter, then?

Kevin starts to answer but Rosemary interjects, demanding Michelle stop. She says to Mish, “Back off about his food, for fuck’s sake. I’ve been preparing his fucking meals. He eats what I eat.” Steve asks about when she’s asleep and Rosemary says he sleeps right beside her, she doesn’t sleep because of her knees. She’s yelling at Commando Steve now. That’s a winning tactic. He’s the only one who’s said he’ll vote if he’s got to!

Michelle says she’s just going by what they said, he’s following the plan as closely as he can. Kevin, have you followed the meal plan? Kevin starts saying his Mum has been cooking his meals but Mish insists on a yes or no. And Kevin says no. Michelle then says any time Rosemary wants to apologise, she’s ready for it! Rosemary’s not going to apologise though because she accused her son of stealing food or overeating and it’s bullshit! Michelle points out that popcorn chicken wasn’t on the meal plan.

Rosemary’s had enough and says, “Nup, we’re leaving.” She gets up and walks out of the elimination room. Everyone tells Kevin not to leave, Hayley tries to get him to stay. Kevin’s not sure what to do because his Mum’s leaving, what’s he going to do? Rosemary was trying to get Kevin to follow her. Shannan says something about them not being the only guys? I guess pointing out they could get help on the outside if it comes to that.

After the ad break Shannan chases off after Rosemary. And Kevin eventually gets up saying that he’s not walking out on the show, just going after his Mum.

Shannan’s got Rosemary backstage trying to calm her down. Rosemary says Kevin doesn’t have to cop that from Michelle. Well, yeah, he does, that’s what you signed up for. If you wanted to be mollycoddled you could have stayed out of the house. Michelle will always work with you but you’ve got to be willing to work with her!

Shannan finally coaxes Rosemary back in but will Michelle say anything else to set her off? Rosemary says she’s sorry for swearing at Michelle, her anger got the best of her. Michelle accepts her apology and Rosemary says she’ll work hard if she’s allowed to stay.

Time to vote!

Shannan says they can make him come there but they can’t make him write someone’s name down. He won’t have it. Michelle’s a trainer, she doesn’t send people home. Commando Steve just shakes his head.

Fuck yeah! After Rosemary’s behaviour they deserve it AND the trainers showed they have the integrity people always question.

Their journey has come to an end for now, but Kevin’s realised he can push through the pain. He’s looking to the horizon instead of looking to his feet. Of course there’s a chance to get back into the competition after elimination. Michelle tells them to let that be the fire, getting back into the house. That’s all they want for them.

Four weeks later… Kevin and Rosemary are training together a lot and Kevin’s personal trainer is pushing him hard. Rosemary says losing weight together has brought them closer together. Awww!

And they’ve been sticking to the meal plan very strictly. He always used to complain that healthy meals cost too much and took too long but now he’s learned how to do it, it’s not so hard. And he’s been getting through it all with appreciating the little things – like being able to put his shoes and socks on without assistance! That’s a very big thing!

Tomorrow night, Margie’s back! Last year’s winner is back to surprise the trainers and put the new batch of contestants through their paces. And there’ll be some abseiling down the side of a really tall building. Have I mentioned yet how much I love abseiling? Because I really love abseiling.
