8×08 – Fatties don’t bounce.
Last night on The Biggest Loser Richard and Sam butted heads over Jess’ dreams of fat fame.
Tonight! Surprise basketball training session ends in disaster. DISASTER, Mr Voiceover Man declares. Also pictures from their past brings out some more tears. Don’t know if whoever had the disaster will get to see these pictures. They’re probably tearsing enough at the hospital anyway.
The game feels a lot more real, Amber says, now they’ve had an elimination. She sounds like a massive bogan while saying it, no wonder she got on the show.
Anyway, surprise training session! The trainers don’t know which couple went home so they’re counting heads and colours as the teams come into the huge basketball court area.
Sam and Jess are gone, of course. Mish is devastated but she’d figured it would be them as they’d lost the least weight. Mish wants the other contestants to step up now. Jess had turned the corner and Sam was a powerhouse. They’ve got to work out every time, eat the right stuff every time. One little slip up will be reflected on the scales. Shannan says the contestants outlook has changed now the eliminations have started.
But it’s a new week and they’ve got a great training session lined up for them today. Brett’s excited. He’s been in basketball his whole life, started in the Under 8’s. Crikey! He was training four times a week, so he’s looking forward to get back into it and take some shots and so on.
Shannan’s got a special surprise for them. In come the Sydney Kings! Brett’s got a big grin on his face. And Shane Heal, four time Olympian, is the Sydney Kings coach these days. Shane says it’s great to be there and he’s looking forward to putting them through some drills today.
Oh and Mark’s got gauges in his ear today. You don’t wear shit like that on the basketball court, not unless you want them to get ripped the fuck out. Maybe that’ll be the “disaster”? Fingers crossed!
Get to the base line and prepare for the first challenge! The Kings are a professional team and they’ll be expecting the contestants to go hard today.
First drill is one of the pair has to do a wall squat while the other runs the length of the court. Then they swap around. Gerald and Todd are doing pretty well!
Since it’s basketball it’s not just running straight up and back, there’s sidesteps and running backwards and so on. Very good workout.
Cher’s doing it tough, as is Anita. Wait, where’s Kevin? Rosemary is there and seems to be teamed with Shannan. Hmm.
Amber’s horrified because it’s only the warm up!
Next drill is the 3 minute drill. Run the length of the court and back as many times as you can. Oof!
Shannan asks Brett to set himself a number and Brett sets the goal at 15. 5 laps a minute? Hmm. Shannan says it’s the first time he’s set himself a goal in the time he’s been there. Only at your urging, Shannan! The weigh in showed Brett he’s got more to give. He thought he was giving 100% but he obviously wasn’t. Him and Shannan have had their ups and downs but isn’t he glad he’s here now? Basketball!
Time for lots and lots of running!
Brett’s getting tired as the laps mount up. He has 10 seconds to go as he completes his 14th lap so it’s safe to say he won’t be able to do the 15 he set for himself.
Shannan’s very proud as Brett does manage to complete his 15 laps after the ad break. He didn’t quit today, for the first time, so Shannan and Mandy finally saw what 100% is for Brett.
Shannan gets Brett to tell Shane Heal he’ll be the biggest loser this week and Shane says he believes him.
Then it’s time for Brett to start shooting hoops!
They’re actually having one partner do pushups while the other shoots two hoops each.
Kevin is there as it turns out. He’s even getting on the ground to do a pushup! Mish is helping him and encouraging him and two of the Kings have to help him up off the ground. Suspect they won’t be doing that again!
Mish knows Kevin is struggling a lot, especially with his diet. She’s pulling him aside for a chat about his nutrition. She’s gone “scurraging” for footage and Kevin made himself popcorn chicken! Yum!
He’s been coating and crumbing chicken and then deep frying it. DEEP FRYING IT! It sounds delicious but come on man, you’re at fat camp. That’s obviously not going to cut it!
We see some of the footage and it’s about an entire frypan full he’s serving up. Which is mind boggling. Mish says he’s taken the healthy food they have in the house and tried to turn it into junk food. If he’s serious about changing his life he needs to make all the changes. Not just some of them.
And while Mish has got him, there’s no slave trade on The Biggest Loser! If he wants a bottle of water, he should get it himself. Not get his Mum to get one. And the same with anything else he needs in the house. Because Mish sure as hell ain’t a slave!
Mish knows Kevin’s not stupid and knows he’s been caught and is also copping it sweet and making sure he changes.
The end of the session is a ten minute match with Commando Steve as the ref! Not all the contestants are playing, a few are sitting out. Not Gerald though, go old fella! Shane Heal’s egging Brett on from the sidelines, saying he’s got the energy to go end to end, he’s just proven it!
Brett goes into the key for a contested lay up and gets bumped on the way down by Mark, landing on his arse with quite a thump. Then there seems to be some swearing and Mark turns around looking a bit scared. Someone mentions “broken” and “medic!” Ad break!
Brett’s grunting and groaning a lot after the ad break and he’s clutching his hand on the ground. Mandy saw him go down so she’s come over to comfort him. Mark is worried he’s done something awful, he knows he gave him a bit of a shove and it went a bit wrong.
Mark’s in tears and probably dealing with it even less well than Brett! The basketballers are telling him it’s not his fault, it just happens sometimes. Mish takes him outside and says it happens all the time, it’s an accident. Mark feels responsible for Brett breaking his arm. He got a bit competitive and Mark didn’t mean to break his arm or anything, sometimes it just happens. It’s sport!
Yup. It’s certainly broken we can see afterwards. OUCH! It has a bend where there shouldn’t be a bend. Shannan says he’s hoping Brett will just see it as a challenge. Shane Heal says the same thing, it’s just another challenge he has to overcome.
Fridge time!
But before that, update from the hospital – Brett’s getting the best of medical care, Mandy’s with him and he should be back in the house tomorrow. So that’s good!
But now, Cher and Anita are in charge of the second fridge. They’d got the benefit of having Shannan all to themselves thanks to the Fridge last week because Gerald and Todd lumped it on them.
It’s a lot of pressure, Anita says. Cher tells everyone she wants the best for everyone but especially themselves.
Anita and Cher throw a glance Gerald and Todd’s way while they’re thinking about it but they’ve obviously already decided.
Cher says they’re curious, but it won’t be themselves opening the fridge. They’re giving it to the pink team.
Why? Kirsten’s giggling. Janet’s shocked. Anita says it’s not meant as a good thing, they’re brave and they’ve achieved so much recently. If it’s good, they deserve it. If it’s bad, they’ll get through it. Anita also tells us that they’re hoping it’ll help them bond a bit, because they really need that, too.
Janet won’t look in the fridge and so Kirsten has to open it by herself.
So what’s in the fridge? A Visitor’s Pass. All Access. What’s it mean? The contestants are all going oooh and ahhhh even though they’ve no idea what it’s about.
A surprise visit is heading to the house just for the pink team. Is it good or bad? Hayley’s not saying! But it’ll fire them up for the rest of the season. Big words, Hayley!
Next morning the trainers arrive and have a special surprise for them again. They refer to the movie night first and then say they’re going to take them back into the past with some pictures. Gerald and Todd follow Shannan first.
Fat Todd playing baseball! He hit the ball good in that shot but he was big. Very big. But it’s one thing to hit a big shot, it’s another to be able to run. Todd can’t run. And apparently people call him a fatty when he tries to run. I.. don’t really believe him, to be honest. Todd’s going to be way different when he returns, he says.
Then Gerald when he wasn’t so big, with baby Todd and baby Sophie. Gerald’s had multiple jobs at various times to try and make ends meet while Sophie was having multiple operations just to stay alive. The kids had no idea, of course, Gerald just toughed it all out. He came from the school of hard knocks, Shannan says, and he’s a great role model for his son. Maybe in terms of toughing it out, not so much in terms of his health!
Robyn and Katie are looking at their photos with Commando Steve. Robyn was so young!
Richard and Amber are with Michelle looking at their photos. Chris and Mark are looking at their photos with Steve. Chris says a lot of stuff has happened since that photo. Tears!
Anita and Cher are with Shannan. Cher says her partner is her best motivation. Motivation to eat more food?
Kevin’s in a tuxedo for his Year 10 Formal. 12 years ago. Kevin doesn’t go out like that now, no suits fit him.
Michelle says the photographs will remind them why they’re there and it’ll help push them when the going gets tough.
Mish is there with Mandy, no Brett yet. Mandy’s got some tears going. She didn’t cry over Brett’s broken arm but the picture from her wedding day has got her crying. She was happy back then and wishing she could go back to that time. Mish tells us her weight has been holding her back so long and she’s struggling to work out why she’s so unhappy. Mish says the one person she’s struggled to get out of her mind was Mandy’s husband. Cue flashback of her husband saying he doesn’t think she’s happy. She’s not the happy go lucky person she used to be. Her weight is bringing her down.
And it’s time for her to think about herself! Girl power! Kick some butt!
Janet and Kirsten are looking at pictures with Shannan. Kirsten’s getting a bath as a baby in one. Rude! Kirsten was “looking gorgeous” at some kind of formal or debutante ball, so Shannan asks what’s gone wrong? When things go wrong, she eats. Emotional eating. Major family issues get her stressed. She’d get home from school, grab something from the pantry and go eat in her room. Then she got her licence and would drive to fast food places to get away from the family. Because where else is there to go, she thought? She didn’t want to be at home.
Janet was trying so hard to please everybody but she was always feeling like she failed. Janet’s not malicious at all so Shannan doesn’t think she’d’ve pushed Kirsten to the back at any point. Janet hadn’t realised how Kirsten might have felt. But Kirsten’s not angry. Janet says it was hard to hear that stuff but it’s brought them closer together.
Shannan says there’s one more photo that was sent in that he couldn’t bear not to show it. Kirsten hopes it’s not one in particular but it’s not… It’s Janet in her bra and panties doing the ironing! Shannan knows it wasn’t appropriate to put on the wall but he couldn’t let it go without showing it! They’re all having a good giggle.
“Who is this naughty minx?” “Check out that wallpaper!” They’re all having a grin now, happy ending!
One more surprise for Janet and Kirsten, of course. A visitor for them courtesy of THE FRIDGE!
HURRY UP.
Their guests are… being revealed tomorrow night. FUCK YOU, BIGGEST LOSER!
Also, Richard butts heads with Michelle over the treadmill incline. And the challenge involves having an arm chained to a wall above their head. Kinky!
