TBL 7×63 – Reflection Hike! And a freezing cold bath. Graham needs one of those…

Previously on The Biggest Loser Margie jumped off a cliff and totally didn’t die. What a twist!

Face Your Fears week has been a little underwhelming in Switzerland, I must say. Rope swing for two people, abseil for Graham and three skydives? Seen it all before. Come up with new things!

Tonight! The Reflection Hike. A long walk through the snowy wastes of Switzerland, carrying their previous weeks’ weightloss in a backpack. Why didn’t they do this and then “leave it all behind” with their Face Your Fears thing?

Whatever. Lots of crying ahead! Lots of disbelief that they used to weigh so much!

Everyone’s still loving the scenery. Margie’s still excited after facing her fears and looking forward to whatever today brings, same with Alex.

Steve reminds them they’ve conquered their fears with skydiving and canyon conquering. Today it’s a step back in time. Series of 13 gates, each gate represents a week of time at Biggest Loser starting with the most recent weigh in. The course is 4km in total. By the time they reach the final gate they’ll be at their starting weights.
Bek tells us it’s only been a few weeks since they weighed that much but it seems so much longer ago.

Shannan remarks that they do this hike every year and every year they’re amazed at just how powerful it is. Embrace the journey and enjoy the ride, Mish urges them.

Kasey doesn’t really want to do it. She likes being back under 100kg and doesn’t want to be that person anymore.

Too bad, gotta do it anyway!

Margie’s going to have over 52kg in her backpack in the end, she says. She’s really not looking forward to it.

Brenda’s first weight is only 1.5kg. Nothing too dramatic yet.
Alex was the biggest loser of the past week so he’s already going to be carting a lot of weight around.
Kasey doesn’t want to put the weight back on because she doesn’t like the person she used to be but Tiff reminds her this is part of the journey and it’s important to look back on the person she used to be and blah blah blah.

Graham thanks Commando Steve for changing his life forever. Only the first gate and he’s already got the sniffles. Great sign!

Bek’s starting to feel the weight with gate 12. Her and Brenda are a little doomed whenever they get back to whatever week they came back, aren’t they? So many weights!

Week 11! Shannan says it was a massive week with the returning contestants coming back and Shannan getting his job back!

6.8kg for Brenda. That was the week she started to believe she could do it, she even won the Iron Man challenge that week. That was an awesome week, but the weight is really heavy in her pack. Brenda’s still not sure she can be the Biggest Loser. She’s still got a fear of failure. Shannan tells her she skydived in front of The Eiger, she can do anything!
Brenda still hasn’t entirely opened herself up to “the process”, Shannan says, but she’s still got a couple of weeks left to work on the issues behind her weight.

Still trudging on through the snow!
Shannan says they need to remember how much pain is associated with being morbidly obese so they never go back to it again.

Week 10, makeover week! Because it took an entire bloody week to do it.

Kasey felt beautiful, Margie could actually look at herself in the mirror and couldn’t STOP looking. She says she realised she wasn’t too bad looking, really.

Week 10 for Bek is 9.9kg, which is all the weight she lost on the outside. Bek says those were the hardest ones she lost because she did them all at home by herself.
They go over Bek getting a letter from her Dad and how emotional that was for Bek. They’ve covered a lot of ground in the three weeks Bek’s been back in the game.
Bek says it’s hard thinking one of your parents doesn’t love you when you’re growing up and not letting people in so you don’t get hurt carries through into adulthood.
Shannan says Bek’s an amazing person and she’s touched his heart. Awwww!

MOAR HIKING! They all have snow shoes. Bloody awkward they all look, too.

Gate nine to eight Kasey is starting to feel uncomfortable. She’s trying to prepare herself for the coming weeks and how much she lost in those weeks.
Margie’s only up to 15kg and she thinks she’s going to struggle but that’s okay!

Week Eight was also the week when Graham and Steve went back to Carcoar to work out in front of his family and friends. That lit the fire in Graham’s belly again, he says. And it meant a lot to him.

Alex is up to 16kg and starting to feel the pinch, especially in his legs and knees. Margie says her thunder thighs are getting a good workout!

Kasey’s taken a tumble and tells us she wants to give up and not continue with it, too heavy!
She needs help to get back on her feet which reminds her of how hard it was getting herself up when she really did weigh that much, everything hurt and it was hard.

Alex is the oldest guy there but he’s not letting the youngsters get away from him.

Week 6, White Team were banished to the bush. Kasey says that week was her best week, other than Switzerland, because it gave her a lot of time to think. She realised she was putting everyone else’s issues ahead of her own and then she’d deal with it all by eating. That week made her realise she needs to look after herself, first and foremost.
Tiff says it’s also a big week for her as that’s when she saw Kasey the competitor come out. The Kasey who thinks she could actually win this thing!

Sea Eagles training week! Margie loved that training session, getting back into her rugby playing past. She’d thought she’d never get to run on a footy field again but she’s tackling the heavy bag and impressing the boys, Mish says.
Margie’s disappointed in herself for having been an athlete and letting herself go so badly. She got to the point where she didn’t care if she woke up in the morning.
That was the training session that ignited something in Margie’s belly, Mish says.

It’s also the week Bek got sent home. She says that at the time she was gutted but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she’s back again now and in Switzerland, no less!

Alex still had THE BOOT attached at this point and still managed to be the Biggest Loser of the week.

Alex has a lot of weight in his pack but everyone’s encouraging him to keep going. He’s got a look of pain on his face, Margie says.
Things are getting ugly, Alex is having a bit of trouble breathing and it looks like he might even have to stop? Surely not?
Even Graham’s having to encourage Alex to keep going. GRAHAM!

Alex is amazed he used to live like that. He’d hate putting his shoes on for work every day. He was on his feet most of the day as a butcher at Woolies and he’d be dreading it from the time he woke up.

Alex is determined not to give up, even if he has to crawl the rest of the way.
Steve says Alex is a machine, from Day One he’s got what it’s all about and he’s worked hard all the time to achieve his goals.
This was a letter from home week. The “can’t fly you run, can’t run you walk, can’t walk you crawl” letter from his sister.
It meant a lot to him, the words of wisdom from his sister. He kept thinking of them, even during the sand hill climb he was thinking of them, crawling part way up the hill. He might have to crawl through the snow but he’s going to get it done.

Brenda can feel the old Brenda in her with all the extra weight on. She recalls all the things it stopped her from doing and stopped her from living her life.
Week Three was when Brenda was originally eliminated. She’d given up a lot to be there and it was very disappointing to go out so soon.
We get a flashback of Mish blowing up at Brenda saying she was fine. Even got a swear out of Mish. A really bad one they’re not allowed to air in this time slot. Gasp!
Brenda thought everything was okay, she’d convinced herself it was all alright but it really wasn’t. Even when her relationship fell apart she couldn’t get her weight under control.

It was really hard when she couldn’t have a child, too. Shannan’s really poking poor Brenda with a stick tonight!
Brenda’s fear of failure caused her to give up on her dreams, Shannan tells us. She’s got to get over that fear and it might hurt in the short term but it’s better for her in the long run. Or something.

Graham’s pack is up to 48kg. 48kg! But Graham’s actually smiling now. He tells Steve he can smile now because he knows this is only for a short time and it’s never going back on him after that.
Yay Graham! First time I’ve cheered for him in weeks!

Margie doesn’t know how she walked around with all that weight and thinks she wouldn’t’ve even been able to fly over there. She’s up to 43.5kg in Week Two with her first Biggest Loser of the week title.

Kasey’s struggling. Tiff asks her how she’s feeling as she puts the next lump of weight in and Kasey can’t answer, she breaks into tears first. Kasey’s angry! It’s so hard to walk and it’s bringing back all the bad memories. She’s realised she was living a big lie back then. Always feeling down and sad and lonely.
She’s telling Tiff she felt like nobody else knew what she was going through. Meanwhile we’re seeing a clip of three women who I guess are her friends? Family? And all three of them are pretty bloody big. So I’m not sure they’ve no idea what you’re going through there, Kasey!
But they do have kids to play with so I suppose they’ve found a man, unlike Kasey. And it’s all about finding a man!
Old Kasey would have given up. New Kasey is determined to finish it, she doesn’t want to take the easy option anymore.

Week One! 7.7kg for Brenda. Crikey. Brenda’s obviously not enjoying Shannan slipping the package in.
Brenda’s annoyed with herself for missing out on so many opportunities in her past. She really wants to get the weight off her back and never feel that pain again.

Margie’s got another big chunk of weight which’ll bring her back up to 159kg. 159kg! Occasionally forget just how huge she was. Love her or hate her there’s no denying she’s a hell of a lot stronger now!
Margie can’t believe she did that to herself. She wasted a lot of time carrying that crap around when all it took was stopping and realising what she was doing to herself.
Margie still remembers the girl she was back then and that’s part of why she jumped off the ledge yesterday and that’s why she wants to keep going. She’s never going back to this weight.

Kasey’s up to 42.2kg in her pack. Oof.
Kasey was lonely and down and yes yes you’ve said this.

Alex says he never cared about himself back then but it’s all going to change now. He promises Steve and his family they won’t have to worry about him again.

Bek’s finally crying as the final weight goes in. She can’t believe she’d gotten to that weight. She knew she was overweight but she never really realised just how far it had gone. She was always being judged and criticised and remembering that is horrible.

Graham didn’t even know what he weighed to start with. The only scales they had would only read up to 200kg and so all he knew was he was heavier than that.
Most people would do something about it when they can’t even get an accurate reading of their weight anymore…
His parents used to try and talk to him about his weight and he’d abuse them. And it hurts him to remember that because he loves his family. He doesn’t want his family to go through that ever again.

Final leg of the journey! Trudge trudge trudge. Everyone’s trudging in silence now. All the contestants are back to their starting weight and it’s been a rough journey for all of them. But they finally reach a rocky outcropping to look out from at the finish line.

These are the people they met on Day One, Shannan says. That’s what they weighed back then.

Time to take the weight off.

Graham promises he’ll be training for the rest of his life from then on. Big look of relief on his face as he takes the weight off.

Alex has promised he’ll never go back to that weight and his family won’t have to worry again. Graham and Margie have to help him unclip the backpack and as it slips off Alex says he feels like he’s flying!

Margie was ready about an hour ago to get the weight off. Holy moly! Margie says her back is killing her but it’s amazing having the weight off. Margie’s life will be full of action from now.

Bek promises to embrace life and never ever go back to being that weight. She takes the weight off and feels much better.

Brenda never wants to be that person again. She’s relieved the weight is gone but still furious at herself for letting herself get to that point.

Kasey’s not going to live a lie anymore, she’s going to live instead of just existing. And it feels awesome when the weight comes off.
Kasey says she can’t go back to that, that would kill her if she put the weight back on.

Be excited! You’re in The Alps! Woo!

Ahh but their day isn’t over just yet. Time for a fresh start. A REALLY fresh start, Shannan says.

Behind them, there’s a frozen lake. They’ve cut a hole in the ice. Time to cleanse and refresh themselves. They’re all going to jump into the frozen lake!
Shannan says this is the craziest thing they’ve ever done on the show. And pretty much all the contestants seem to think it’s really crazy, too.

It’s a perfect little pool, Bek says. Got steps in the side and a seat and the water looks so lovely. If a little bit chilly!
The ice in the lake is 2 metres thick, Shannan says. So that’s going to be some pretty cold water!

They’ve all been fitted up for their wetsuits, right? Good, good. Shame they forgot to bring them, Shannan tells them. They’re just going to jump in in their thermals.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!!!

Shannan wants their jump into the pool to symbolise their fresh new life.

Brenda gets to go first. Shannan wants her to embrace this. Issues may have held her back in the past but she needs to let that go. Needs to surrender to the process if she wants to go all the way, she says.
Shannan says there’s something in her life that she needs to leave behind. She’s always had a dream to have a family. She tells us that it’s hard to talk about wanting to have kids and it’s easier to just put up the wall and not think about it and not think about how it might never happen.
Shannan wants her to promise not to give up on her dreams for fear of failure.
The anger in Brenda is gone on the edge of the ice pool. Shannan’s finally found the real Brenda.

She has to jump in and stay in for 30 seconds. SO COLD! SO COLD!

Brenda has to remember that one word that’s going to carry her through the rest of her life – “FEARLESS” – and in she jumps.
And wants to get right back out in a hurry because it’s COLD! She says it’s so cold it’s numbing, she can barely breathe.

After she gets out they put a towel around her shoulders and then a reflective thermal blanket thingy and then a huge blanket over the top of that. And then Brenda starts trotting off to try and warm up. SO VERY COLD!

Tomorrow night, the ice baths continue!
Then the Uber Challenge kicks off with thrills, spills and SNOW EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME FOREVER!
