TBL 7×34 – Ghosts of chubbies past.
Previously on The Biggest Loser Selena finally got her wish and was sent home for a second time. Will she have the balls to turn up for the Eliminated Contestants second chance thing? Surely not…
Tonight! The competition moves to the next stage as the teams are dispersed into singles. Which, as we’ve seen in previous seasons, doesn’t really matter that much. Teams are still teams and teams are still going to look out for each other.
Mostly.
Also a physical challenge with the remaining contestants carrying their lost weight around in a backpack for a gruelling run.
But first, Hayley tells the three remaining girls in the Elimination Room that this is where the game really starts to heat up.
Hayley tells the Red and Black Team to come in and announces the obvious – Selena’s been eliminated. Now, come for a walk with Hayley!
They all head back to the weigh in room where Lydia’s got a Red shirt for Margie to get back into.
Congratulations all round for everyone making it this far. They’ve lost, as a combined group, 508.8kg. Which is two Ryans, Kasey tells us.
Now it’s time to shake the game up. Say goodbye to your teams. You’re now competing as singles. Margie exclaims that she only just came back!
So, who’s winning so far in Singles?
In 8th place? Lisa, surprisingly. She’s done quite well overall so it’s interesting to see her in last place.
She’s lost 21.1kg, 20.25% of her body weight.
She’s quite happy with her loss so far and isn’t surprised by being 8th.
7th place is, unsurprisingly, Graham. Lost 42.4kg, 20.26%. Only just ahead of Lisa.
Margie tells us he’s the biggest guy in the competition and he should be losing much bigger numbers and I really can’t disagree with her there.
6th place is Kasey. Lost 28.6kg, 21.54%.
5th is Simon, surprisingly. Lost 35.4kg, 21.55%
Only just ahead of Kasey? Wow.
4th is Michelle. Lost 24.6kg, 22.28%
Michelle doesn’t think she can win the competition but she’s just there to lose the weight, not so much to win. So she’s really happy by that number.
Lydia, Margie and Alex are the top three. But who’s winning? Find out after the ad break!
3rd place? Margie! Lost 37.3kg, 23.44%.
Margie’s pleased to be in third. She’s got people chasing her to keep her pushing and people ahead of her to try and beat. And she thinks she can catch up to Lydia and Alex.
In first place… Lydia!
Alex does a double take, think he expected to be in first place!
Lydia’s lost 35.3kg. 24.88%.
Very good effort. She feels like she’s hanging on the edge of a rock as a result. She’s not there to win, she’s there to lose the weight. And she’s not too worried about leaving because of being seen as a threat – what better compliment could you get?
And it seems Alex isn’t too far behind, or so Hayley says.
Alex has lost 38.3kg. 23.7%.
Yeah, that’s barely ahead of Margie and a fair bit behind Lydia, really.
Alex is really happy to have made it past the first week and then the next week and the next and so on. But it feels good to be coming second, especially having done it in the big boot.
Hayley tells them they’ve got another surprise in their rooms. They all head off and White are the first to get back. And it’s Black Shirts. Big surprise.
They’ve always thought of the Black shirts as Commando’s team. White was bright and happy, now Black is all serious.
Red’s happy to move to Single but a little sad they’re not Red anymore. They’re going to stay strong as a team and try to get each other through any eliminations and they think that’ll get them through a lot more weeks.
Black get to their room and of course they don’t have new shirts because they’re already the Black Team.
Simon congratulates Alex on being second and Alex says he’s stuck between two girls and that’s the way he likes it! Chortle chortle.
Simon’s got some less kind words for Graham’s 7th place. But Graham’s seeing it as a challenge, he can only go up from where he’s at now, he thinks.
Time for a training session! Steve’s having a chat to his team about Singles first. He’s got a picture of the three of them out on the parade ground and asks them what it represents? Brotherhood, Alex guesses?
Final Eight, singles, home straight. Steve says the band of brothers is being torn up. Like the picture he’s tearing up.
They’re going to have to fight as individuals now. Only the strongest will survive to the end and it’s time for them to be strong. Train hard, get yourselves above the Yellow Line.
Steve thinks Graham will have a hard time. He’s going to realise just how hard he has to work.
If Graham wants to stand a chance at winning he’s got to get down to 110kg, Steve says. He’s got another 58kg to go to get that target, does he have the determination to do it?
Carn Steve, you know he doesn’t!
Graham says he believes in himself. But he doesn’t sound very convinced. Steve tells him he’s going to have to work much harder than everyone else to catch up.
Mish has her team in the gym on the treadmills. She says her girls can go all the way, she knows it. If they can stay in the game and look after each other they can do it. But they’ve got to look out for each other and support each other.
They’re doing step ups and Lydia’s finding it hard matching pace with Margie after being on the treadmill so long and Mish isn’t giving them much rest time today. No sitting down, no down on the floor.
Mish pushes them a bit further and Lydia starts to break down. She stops doing the exercise with Margie. Margie tells her to get back to it and Lydia doesn’t appreciate it.
Lydia starts wheezing and struggling. Mish tries to get her to relax and get back into it. Lydia says it’s hard when the team is pushing her and she doesn’t want to let her trainer down and she doesn’t want to admit she’s not strong enough to keep going.
So she… keeps going? Mmmkay!
Lydia says she panics when she can’t breathe and Mish says she knows but it’s all head stuff, not physical and Lydia says she knows that. But she struggles with it, feels like she’s letting people down. Mish says she’s not, and she knows that. It’s more like she’s letting herself down. Lydia wants to be the best, she’s never been the best at anything. Awww.
This is the first thing she’s really tried at and when she doesn’t do as well as the others she feels like giving up again. Like she gives up on everything that’s too hard. But she still needs to find a way through it.
Everyone heads off for a Contest… somewhere off in the bush. This is the first time they’ll get to do it as individuals and potentially win power just for themselves.
They turn up at a running track somewhere and Kasey says, “That’s not very nice.” We don’t get to see what it is as ads are more important!
“That” turns out to be a bunch of cardboard cutouts of themselves. Life size. From the start of the comp. They’re all a bit horrified.
Hayley wants them all to see how far they’ve come. Graham felt disgusted and lonely at the time. Margie tries not to think about that image too much, it’s very confronting for her to think back on that. She can’t even look at her cardboard self for too long, keeps looking away.
Margie’s really uncomfortable seeing her old self. She felt pathetic and worthless at the time, she tells us. She didn’t like the person she was then. She can’t believe how badly she treated herself. She’s lost six years of her life, Margie says, looking like that.
Mish tells her it’s a reminder of where she was and where she’s not going back to.
Simon says it’s not him anymore and never will be. He can see how far he’s come.
Michelle knows she was digging her own hole before and now she doesn’t have to feel sad anymore, Tiff tells her. She’s lost 24kg since then and she’s scared she could go back to that. Because who could love that?
Hamish. Hamish fell in love with her like that and the way she is now. He loves who she is, regardless of size. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Lisa sees a really unhappy person in her cardboard self. She doesn’t want to go back there. Replay footage from before the show and… Lisa has a belly ring?! Arg! No! That’s just wrong. She’s 42 not 22!
Before coming to Camp if they’d looked at the weight they’ve lost so far they’d’ve thought it impossible but it all started with that first step.
And funnily enough, the 400 metre race they’ve set up starts with the first step!
They’re going to run the 400 metres to set a time. Graham’s not convinced he can run very fast at all.
Margie’s going hard to start out and going to try and go hard for as long as she can. Michelle’s trying to keep up a good pace as well, trying to ignore her body wanting to give up.
Simon’s going at a quick walk due to his injury and is puffing and panting but determined to finish the 400m without stopping.
What the hell is with these guys? 400m should be easy with all the exercise they’ve been doing. Well, maybe not EASY, but it certainly shouldn’t be a mammoth task.
Lydia’s got a lead on Lisa and Lydia’s pretty confident she can stay ahead.
Margie says she feels like she’s going to die in the final 200 metres but she kept going at a jog.
Michelle comes in second, followed by Lydia, Lisa, Simon, Kasey and Graham a very distant last. In the rain.
Wait, where’s Alex? Oh, Graham’s not last? Alex is even further behind. But he’s done pretty well for a guy who’s had a gammy leg for much of the competition!
Amazing effort, everyone. They should all be proud of themselves but that race means nothing. The contest hasn’t really started yet!
Hayley hopes they have another 400 metres in them because they’ll be running it again. But not against each other, this time. They’ll be racing against themselves.
Their old selves, to be precise.
There’s a weight vest for each of them holding the weight they’ve lost since starting the competition. Another 400 metres with the weight they used to carry every day.
The four contestants who get closest to their original time will go to the final round. The winner of the final round gets to go on The Walk.
Michelle says you could feel the effects right away. Can’t breathe or walk properly. It’s even a bit emotional.
Margie’s struggling to even stand up straight, she says. It’s a bit ridiculous that she used to walk around like that. She can’t believe she functioned like that before.
Alex says he can feel it all the way down to his legs, right away. He’s never going back to that again.
Kasey doesn’t know how she even got out of bed in the morning like that. It’s all well and good seeing the numbers tick off on the scales but to actually have it all back on? Shows how bad things had gotten.
On your marks, set… go!
Margie, Michelle and Lydia all manage to set off at a slow run. Most of the rest of them are reduced to walking right away. Michelle’s keeping up with Margie this time. And eventually manages to jog up and past her.
Simon says his knees and ankles are hurting at the 100 metre mark and there’s 300 metres to go?
Michelle’s taking a larger lead but isn’t giving up. She says it was actually kind of motivating to have the weight on her.
We don’t see the times as they finish but we do see Margie need to sit down right afterwards with the assistance of… someone? Can’t see who it was. Some dude!
Alex is bringing up the rear again but he’s pushing hard for the finish. He can barely breathe as he gets to the end and tells us afterward he’s never getting that heavy again.
First place, closest to her original time, Michelle! A mere 44 seconds slower than her original run.
Second place, Lisa! She didn’t expect that at all. 51 seconds slower than her original time.
Third? Simon! 52 seconds slower.
Fourth… Graham?! Seriously? Wow. 56 seconds slower than his original time. He’s amazed.
Michelle, Lisa, Simon and Graham will now fight it out in the final round. Closest to their original time wins.
The winner gets to go on The Walk. But they’re all going to have to carry their weights around again. Ouch!
Michelle sets out strong again but Lisa’s right behind her and is trying her hardest to stick close.
Michelle says her knees and legs are hurting and her lungs are burning. Graham knows he’s not going too fast but he’s trying to just keep going as best he can.
Michelle crosses the finish line and is begging to get her weight pack off but it seems it’s still not time?
Lisa comes in second, Simon third and Graham fourth.
Simon was determined not to slow down because the guy in the cardboard cutout would have.
Meanwhile back at the finish line Michelle’s finally got the weight off her shoulders. Tiff tells her it’s gone for good. Remember how this feels so she’ll never ever go back.
Kasey and Lisa give her a big hug after she’s recovered a little more.
Simon loves the feeling of removing the weight vest afterwards. He’s aiming to feel that way forever!
Fourth place? Simon. 45 seconds slower than his original time. Which is actually better than his first run with the weight! Very impressive.
Third place? Graham. 40 seconds slower, so he’s made a big improvement too.
The winner of today’s Contest by a mere one second is… Lisa! She’s shocked and very pleased. Michelle seems quite happy for her as well.
Lisa will now get to go on The Walk. She’s excited. A little bit of trepidation. But mostly looking forward to it.
Time to get dry and head back to Camp. Hayley will see Lisa at The Walk.
As they head off Steve calls out to Graham to hold back a minute. Steve says it’s not over for him yet, he’s not going back to Camp with the others, Steve has something else lined up for him first.
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN!
Tomorrow night Lisa goes on The Walk. With amusing results? Except for Alex who can’t handle whatever it is. He’s going to risk everything? There’ll be repercussions if he does… something?
What’s he going to do? Threaten to walk out or not follow whatever the punishment is from The Walk? Interesting. Possibly.
And Graham’s getting a hero’s welcome back at home in Carcour with Steve for a motivational stop. Mostly for Graham’s motivation, I expect. Not so much the townsfolk.
Also, Temptation! Sushi train temptation. Who’s going to participate? Looks like someone’s going to succumb. First week of Singles, got to be a lot of nervous people. Especially as Michelle is likely to retain Immunity if nobody plays…
