TBL 7×29 – You CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks, Mythbusters!
Previously on The Biggest Loser the last of the Blue Team left Camp as Hamish was eliminated thanks to the treachery of Selena.
Tonight! Shannan’s going to be GUTTED. I can feel it in my bones.
Also, Old Dogs versus Young Pups. Which is going to cause a bunch of issues for Selena as Margie’s not going to put up with her slacking off in training, not one bit!
After Elimination Hamish gets time to have a chat to Michelle before leaving. Not at all a cynical ploy by the producers to get some smooshy footage!
Michelle wrote him a letter while White Team were off camping. It’s in an envelope. And has a love heart beside Hamish’s name. SMUSHY LOVE STUFF!
Michelle doesn’t want to say goodbye but says it hopefully won’t be forever. Hamish is hoping for many years to come with more enjoyment. Of each other’s company. Yep.
NOW KISS! Oooh, they do have a very shy-in-front-of-cameras kiss. Lips on lips! Big cuddle afterwards. Michelle sticks her bottom lip out and says she doesn’t want him to go. Another couple of kisses on the cheek. Bye Hamish. Awwww!
First boy she’s ever kissed and she says it sucks that he has to leave now.
Hamish says none of them really thought they’d fall in love with anyone on the show but he’s pleased he’s found someone to miss while he’s away, thus keeping him focused.
As Hamish is driven away he’s reading Michelle’s letter to him. She’s never felt like this about any boy before and during the time away she’s come to realise how strong her feelings are for him. Awww!
She thinks the world of him, holds him in her heart and she loves him. And hopes he feels the same way. AWWWWWWWWWW!!! LOVERS!!!
Hamish is getting a bit teary after reading it but he sucks it up.
Most of Hamish’s to-camera stuff is done with a Blue Team hat on which I strongly suspect is hiding the fact he’s had a haircut. I think this stuff must have been filmed after makeover or something, not sure. It’s all a bit suspicious.
Alex and Simon are the only ones waiting in Loser Lounge, waiting nervously to see if Graham will scrape through again.
Alex knows he owes Graham big time for this and isn’t sure what he’ll do if Graham doesn’t make it back.
Shannan’s hoping Hamish will be safe because if he’s not safe, he’s out of there too!
Shannan is visibly crushed when Graham walks in. Shannan knows he has to pack his bags as well now since there’s no Blue Team anymore.
How’s Michelle feeling? Not great! She breaks into tears and can’t talk more.
They start recapping the voting. No big surprises in the early votes. Shannan knows there was an alliance so he’s not surprised at all by Red’s votes. Though he did seem to appreciate Lydia’s candour in admitting she voted for Hamish because she had Graham’s back.
Then it came to Selena’s vote. Tiff is shocked. Shannan can’t understand it either. Tiff is right on Selena’s back for that, saying that Kasey and Michelle have been supporting her all week and now Selena’s turned around and voted Michelle’s boyfriend out?!
Tiff tells us it makes no sense, especially after Kasey and Michelle backed Selena over Bek.
Another big rift in the White Team.
Selena reiterates that she didn’t expect Graham to walk in and Tiff says it doesn’t matter, you support your team mates and your team decision.
Shannan is boggling at the White Team turning on each other like that.
Then he asks Selena why she voted for Hamish? He’s 20, she’s 22, he’s been bullied his entire life, same as her. But Selena says she couldn’t vote Graham out, he’s the biggest guy and he needs to stay there.
Shannan’s obviously still disappointed but he seems satisfied by that answer.
Shannan’s shattered. He says he feels like a failure as a trainer. The other teams all have three members and he’s run out of Team.
Shannan wishes them all luck, says they’ve made their decision and now they’ve got to live with it. And he’s out of here!
Shannan storms out of Loser Lounge slamming the door behind him and then out the front door, giving it a solid thump as well.
Poor Shannan. :-(
The remaining three teams are called to the top oval to meet Hayley. And a big labrador. And a labrador puppy. AWWW! Cutest puppies ever!
The rules are about to change, Hayley says. This week it’s a battle of the ages. Old Dogs versus Young Pups.
Alex is an Old Dog.
Selena’s a Young Pup.
Lisa is an Old Dog.
Michelle a Young Pup.
Simon’s an Old Dog.
Kasey’s a Young Pup.
Graham’s an Old Dog.
Margie joins Young Pups.
And Lydia, last of all, joins the Old Dog team.
That means five Old Dogs and four Young Pups.
The Young Pups get white shirts while the Old Dogs keep their same colour shirts. Not sure what’s up with that.
But I guess it’ll be Singles soon so it won’t matter too much!
Michelle’s happy to have Margie on the team because she works hard and will help them push harder.
Hayley says it’s important to be faithful and hardworking like their doggies because it’ll be one of the two Teams below the dreaded Yellow Line. Not clear then how the Elimination will work.
Margie’s starting the trash talk early, asking when the wheelchairs will arrive for the Old Dogs.
Mish and Steve have joined forces to train the Old Dogs. The two toughest trainers ought to get some spectacular results… if they can get them all to actually put in the work. Cough cough Graham.
They’re doing a tough circuit out on the paradeground today.
Graham says Mish reminds him a lot of Commando. Doesn’t have the deep voice Steve has but she’s always right in his ear pushing him hard.
Mish is curious to see whether the Black Team can train as hard as her girls train. Lisa tells us the Black Team sure make a lot of noise while training!
Mish thinks the Old Dogs will give the Young Pups a real run for their money.
Tiff’s in an outdoor gym too. Tiff is really excited to have Margie on her team both because she’s looking forward to training someone new but also because she thinks Margie will be a real asset when it comes to pushing the other girls and the other girls can learn a lot from her.
And Margie’s getting a special assignment. Selena’s been struggling getting her head in the game and so she’s going to be working today with one of the most mentally tough people in the competition, Margie.
This could end badly!
Margie’s hoping she won’t have to stop or slow down for Selena because that will affect her own training. And she’s not going to let that happen.
Margie and Selena head off to tackle some stairs while Tiff keeps Kasey and Michelle for a chat about Selena’s decision to send Hamish home. Michelle is devastated. She feels a bit stupid but also like it was purposeful, an attempt by Selena to get back at them for something.
Perhaps the “bullying” Selena sees everywhere?
Kasey says it might be because they were hard on her while out in the bush but it was only because they all have to pull their weight and pull together and Selena just wasn’t.
Michelle says she can’t make people vote for someone because she’s close to them, but it’s still hard.
Meanwhile Selena’s cutting corners in training, Margie says. She won’t run up the stairs. They’re in Week 7 and and she’s training like it’s still Week 1. And that crap isn’t going to fly with her.
Might this be the push Selena’s needed?
Selena tells us that having Margie on her was like having her own pitbull trainer and Margie was saying Selena didn’t want Margie angry with her. And Selena thought Margie could go right ahead because Selena was getting angry with her, too.
Tiff watches one of the trips up the stairs and that’s probably the fastest Selena’s done.
After a final trip up the stairs they’re back in the outdoor gym carrying tires around above their heads while running laps of the boxing ring. Kasey, Michelle, Margie and Tiff all carry the tires up high while running.
Selena keeps letting hers slip down and walks a lot while Margie urges her on from behind. Selena tells us she’s sick of Margie yelling and wishes she’d shut up.
So work harder! Then she will! Derrrr!
Selena’s finally had enough and throws the tire to the ground and walks out with Margie trailing behind for a few steps. Tiff calls out to her to not leave the session but Selena keeps saying to leave her alone and keeps walking.
Tiff catches up and asks her to wait while trotting along beside her. Tiff tells her Margie is pushing her out of love. She needs the help in pushing through the training. Can she see that? She’s puffing and panting and that’s good! This is the hardest she’s trained in a while, Tiff tells her. And it’s what they need this week.
Inside her is a competitor as strong as Margie but she’s got to want to do it. And she absolutely can do it!
Tiff gets Selena to head back in to training and Selena apologises to Margie, telling her she knows Margie’s doing it with the best intentions.
Margie tells her she accepts the apology but Margie herself was in the same position back in weeks one to three but she just has to push through it. And time when the trainer is there is like gold because nobody can push them as hard as their trainer. They want her to push harder so she can succeed because it’ll be too hard on the outside.
Tiff thinks they’re in with a chance so long as Margie can keep pushing Selena.
Margie’s feeling a bit out of sorts going into the weekly Contest. But if winning means beating her old team mates, so be it!
Three rounds for today’s contest. Brains, Endurance and Skill. First team to win two rounds wins the Contest and the right to go on The Walk.
First round is the Brain!
They have a moment to discuss it and Alex says he’s empty upstairs so he’s out!
First round will be Kasey versus Lisa!
First round is called “The Calorie Is Right!”
Each champion has to put a list of foods into the correct calorie order, highest to lowest, on a board set up for the occasion.
First champion to get all ten cards in order will win the round.
Lisa’s quite confident. And they can get help from their teammates so she’s not too worried.
Kasey’s a litle bit worried but she’s going to give it a good crack.
One large avocado, a bucket of hot chips, a large apple, large croissant, smoked salmon, turkish bread, caramel chocolate (Caramello Koala omnomnom), boiled white rice, five choc-coated almonds, grilled rump steak.
Ready, set, go!
Old Dogs are going lowest to highest in calories.
Kasey’s relying on her team to get it right. But they’re a bit rubbish for offering help. Can’t make up their minds.
Three to go for both. But will either of them get it right the first time round?
Probably not!
Kasey puts her hand up first with Lisa not far behind. But they’ve both got it wrong the first time.
Doesn’t seem like there’s any penalty for asking Hayley to check multiple times so just flail about and hope for the best!
Kasey’s got no idea and is relying on Michelle and Margie. But they can’t make up their minds so Kasey’s even more lost.
Meanwhile the Old Dogs have seen that it’s a very large avocado at 300g so maybe it has quite a few more than they think.
Lisa puts Avocado in the first slot and Hayley confirms it’s correct. So the Young Pups quickly follow suit. But neither is getting it right still.
Kasey’s getting frustrated, she says she doesn’t have a lot of patience. Lisa is pleased just to be competing in a Contest.
Kasey’s got the Caramello Koala in the right spot – the lowest calories!
Lisa’s almost there… another shuffle and… she’s got it right! Old Dogs win the first round.
Winning order: Calories
Large avocado: 410
Hot chips: 369
Turkish Bread: 330
Grilled rump steak: 274
Boiled white rice: 258
Large croissant: 253
five choc almonds: 173
smoked salmon: 134
large apple: 106
Caramello Koala: 99
Time for Round Two.
Round Two is endurance. Michelle’s taking it for the Young Pups and Lydia’s the Old Dogs selection.
Michelle’s got a win over Lydia at a previous contest but that was weeks ago.
Round Two is situps. Who’s the fastest at doing 100 situps?
Old Dogs have to go first as the winner of the previous round. Lydia’s nervous because she knows she has to set the pace and Michelle only has to do a tiny bit better to pip her.
They have to do full body situps. Touch a red spot behind their head and touch a red spot on a pole at the other end.
Lydia goes out strong but starts to realise how much harder it is to do the full body ones.
Michelle’s worried she won’t be able to match Lydia’s pace and Margie says they’ve done such things in training but Lydia’s never pulled out that sort of effort before.
Approaching the 70 situp mark Lydia’s slowing down a bit but she’s not giving up and as she goes past 80 she picks up the pace again for the final 20.
Lydia finishes with a final time of 2mins 43secs.
Margie reckons Michelle’s in with a chance here though. She’s got the endurance on her side and she’s smaller, so maybe.
Michelle starts out slower than Lydia, and her team notices right away.
Michelle says it’s starting to hurt already around the 25 mark but she’s still going.
Margie’s worried because she thought Michelle would do really well at this and is starting to wish she’d gone for it herself.
Michelle’s in a lot of pain and eventually stops entirely. Not going to win like that!
Margie worries Michelle’s going to give up and walk out but she gets back down to it. Margie and Kasey are both cheering her on to at least finish.
Kasey thinks the week may have got the best of Michelle, with being out in the bush and then losing Hamish.
Michelle’s determined to keep going, even though she knows she’s not matching Lydia’s pace. She’s in the Biggest Loser House, she’s not giving up now!
Kasey and Lydia come over to hug her right afterwards and then the other Young Pups come across for support too.
Michelle’s time was 4 minutes and 5 seconds. Which is still pretty awesome. But Lydia’s time has won the day for the Old Dogs.
Old Dogs now have to choose someone to go on The Walk. Lydia’s been before so she’s happy for someone else to have the experience.
They opt for Simon as they feel they can trust his decision.
Past results of The Walk have seen things like the boys having to eat orange food for a week and earlier saw Selena returned to the game…
Tomorrow night Simon brings home “the biggest secret of the season”. Oooh. And Margie’s totally jealous.
Also a battle in the kitchen. Cook a three course meal that comes in under 1,000 calories in under an hour.
And the judges will be the three remaining trainers!
Then some challenge thing that tests their “newfound confidence”. They have to “charm the pants off” someone.
Erm, okay.
