TBL 7×18 – Sand dune of doom leads to an extra large elimination.
Previously on The Biggest Loser Hamish and Michelle sitting in a cabin, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. What does that spell? Uncomfortably discussing their feelings!
The yearly sand dune of doom challenge kicked off. It’s still Boys vs Girls and everyone on each team must make at least one trip.
When we left on Thursday night Ryan was making his one trip up the hill. He was barely halfway up and didn’t look like making it much further…
Tonight… He’s still going! As is Selena, though she’s ahead and manages to get to the top and flip her number over.
Ryan’s still crawling up the hill. He’s sinking into the sand all the time but he keeps telling himself to never quit and Steve and Shannan are walking beside him and urging him on. The rest of the team sees him as the weak link and he can’t let that continue.
Finally, Ryan reaches the top and struggles to his feet to flip the counter over.
Then he pretty much flails his way down the hill, arms flapping out to either side as he walks down the hill. Then he falls over. Shannan gets him back on his feet pretty quickly and tells him to fight the urge to fall over, push down the hill, fight to stay up.
Meanwhile Margie’s made a trip back up the hill after Selena manages to get back down the hill as Ryan finished his run.
Ryan falls over again and rolls partway down the hill from there with Shannan chasing him and urging him to get back up. He’s only about 5 metres away from the line and so he has Shannan and his team screaming at him to get back up and tag the next person in.
Just as he tags Luke in for yet another run Margie hits the bottom of the hill again.
The girls are tenacious, Shannan says, so the boys will struggle to pull their lead back.
Lydia takes the final run up the hill for the girls with them being four laps ahead of the boys! Lydia gives Mish a big hug at the top then grabs their flag and proudly carries it down the hill alongside some of her teammates who meet her partway up.
Michelle says it’s a great achievement for them, both to beat the boys and to get the 2kg advantage is a bonus.
But the boys aren’t giving up. They’re going to finish out the challenge as well, else they won’t be able to hold their heads up back at Camp.
Once they’re done Hayley congratulates the girls for winning but also singles Luke out for special mention. Luke ended up running the hill a whopping 17 times, more than twice any other runner’s number. Crazy!
And now, back at Camp, it’s Last Chance Training! Shannan tells the boys that yes, the girls have a 2kg advantage but it’s not the end of the world. It’s only 280 grams each between them. No problem.
Today’s Last Chance is a circuit, Steve tells us. In the boxing ring, rope flick, on a rower, punching the heavy bag, on a bike and with Steve lifting weights.
Ryan’s doing the rope flick very lazily. It’s like he’s doing the absolute minimum required to get the rope off the ground, forgetting it’s meant to be exercise. Then when he gets to the weights with Steve he has a bit of a breakdown. Again.
He’s in tears and Steve asks him why. Because he’s weak and shit, Ryan says. Steve tells him if he keeps telling himself that he’ll keep going through it and thinking it.
Ryan had some bad memories well up. Steve asks him if he gets eliminated will he be able to do it on the outside? No? So why don’t you pull your finger out and get the job done now?
Steve’s saddened by Ryan’s mindset and defeatist attitude.
Ryan knows he might go home and die after slipping back into bad habits.
Steve tells him he believes Ryan can do it, he just has to WANT to do it. Steve can give him the tools to get it done but Ryan’s got to do it.
Luke’s been the hero of the boys team this week, Shannan says. But he’s still looking for someone to push him. So Shannan’s got the perfect place – gloves on, into the boxing ring!
Luke says it’s a bit scary getting into a boxing ring with a professional fighter like that, with Shannan’s speed and agility. He knows if Shannan wanted to knock him out, he could. But he’s hanging in there pretty well with Shannan, even landing a couple of punches to Shannan’s head.
Luke’s pretty confident going onto the scales this week as he’s done very well, he thinks.
Mish turns up in a car with Tiff and Tiff’s tootling the horn like a lunatic. Everyone has a good giggle as the trainers get out and Mish says that the car will be part of the training later.
The girls are doing a circuit for Last Chance as well. Pulling tire across the parade ground, flipping tire across the parade ground, hitting tires with sledgehammers, carrying tires up the stairs. Lots of tires!
Lisa and Michelle are pushing the car along the driveway, then Michelle and Kasey, then Selena and Margie. Margie’s getting frustrated with Selena, thinking she’s not pushing hard enough. She backs off the car at one point leaving Selena to try and push it herself, without a lot of success.
Selena feels vulnerable, she tells us. She knows if the girls fall below the Yellow Line she’ll be the one to go home.
Margie tells us Selena’s not giving 100% and probably doesn’t even know what 100% is!
They’ve hit a speedbump in the driveway so Margie’s getting them to push together as a team so they don’t get stuck halfway. They do manage to make it over the speedhump and then push it along just fine.
Tiff says to us that Margie’s not being fair to Selena, she doesn’t know her well enough to know when she’s giving it her all.
But Bek’s saying much the same, Selena’s not pushing hard enough and she’s almost gone back to Week One effort, which is what got her sent home originally.
Bek says Selena will probably be representing White Team in Elimination.
Boys are still eating orange foods. Carrots and oranges and… god knows what else.
Luke says that tomorrow he’s grabbing everything in the fridge that isn’t orange and chucking it in the frypan. As long as it’s not orange, it’s going in there, Simon agrees!
And now it’s time for Weigh-In! All the girls on one side, all the boys on the other, all the nervousness evenly distributed!
Hamish won Immunity during the week so he’s safe, regardless of what may happen in the overall team results. And the girls have a 2kg advantage.
Graham will weigh in first for the boys!
Graham Previous: 188.8kg
Graham Current: 184.7kg
Graham Loss: 4.1kg
Brings him to 24.6kg in total. He’s drawing a lot of inspiration from wanting to be a father and he won’t meet anyone while he’s that big, he thinks.
The real world begs to differ, but anyway!
Luke’s feeling pretty confident, perhaps the only one in the house who is.
Luke Previous: 129kg
Luke Current: 126.8kg
Luke Loss: 2.2kg
Very underwhelming result. Lydia’s calling out to him to hold it together, not let it beat him.
Shannan looks dumbstruck. Luke says it’s not enough and he’s surprised by the number. He was hoping for 6.5kg.
Hayley asks him if diet played a role and Luke says no, he stuck to the calorie limit. He’s not making excuses. Shannan tells him he’s a fighter, he’ll come back bigger and better after a result like that.
Alex Previous: 143.2kg
Alex Current: 139.2kg
Alex Loss: 4kg
Not bad for one of the cripples!
Hamish next. He’s safe. Unless he’s gained weight!
Hamish Previous: 136.7kg
Hamish Current: 132.8kg
Hamish Loss: 3.9kg
He still has four manboobs but two of them are starting to disappear! Go Hamish go!
Hamish says he’s overcome a lot of mental obstacles this week, and it’s all worth it.
Hayley reminds him about asking Michelle to the cabin with him and Hamish goes a little red and buries his face in his hand after saying he did, yes. Hamish says they both came to Camp as quite shy people, lacking confidence. And as they got to know each other better they found they had a lot of common interests and now they’ve become good friends. Awww!
Hamish has never felt so good, he answers Hayley.
And after he gets off the scales he waddles over to give Michelle a hug. Oh dear, he’s got it bad!
Simon’s next for the boys.
Simon Previous: 147.3kg
Simon Current: 143.9kg
Simon Loss: 3.4kg
Another decent result from another one of the crippled boys.
Last of all, Ryan. DUN DUN DUN!
Ryan Previous: 214.2kg
Ryan Current: 206.1kg
Ryan Loss: 8.1kg
NOW THAT’S MORE LIKE IT, BOY! Finally got his shit together, it seems? Awesome result.
Some of the boys look around at each other a little uncomfortably as they realise he’s done better than them, despite being the supposed weak link.
Boy Total: 25.7kg
Boy Percentage: 2.68%
Ryan says he’s shocked. He’s had a rollercoaster week, been presented with some big challenges from the trainers and succeeded but also had some lows like struggling on the sand hill. Ryan’s finally starting to see a future for himself.
Meanwhile as Ryan keeps talking Luke is pretty much bawling his eyes out. Guess you shouldn’t’ve been such a cock about Ryan’s efforts, huh?
Lydia tells him he won’t be going home.
Luke tells us it’s frustrating for him because he works hard when he goes to the gym… and Ryan doesn’t.
He’s also got a hell of a lot more flab to lose than you, dude. One week with a good result isn’t going to get the job done!
Time for the girls to weigh in! To beat the boys they’ll need to lose at least 20.6kg. That… should be doable? They have 7 girls so that’s only 3kg each? Bit more for the heavy girls, bit less for the lighter ones? They should have this!
Selena’s going first. She knows the other girls will put her up for elimination because they don’t think she’s working hard enough.
Selena Previous: 149.5kg
Selena Current: 145.4kg
Selena Loss: 4.1kg
So she’s more than done her part, right? Tiff tells her she should be very proud of her loss this week, 4.1kg is an excellent result. Some of the other girls look a bit uncomfortable!
Selena thinks they won’t be able to put her up now she’s lost a good number. I think she’s badly underestimating women’s ability to be self-serving bitches! You can bet your arse the boys will be putting Ryan up, big number or not!
Michelle Previous: 97.5kg
Michelle Current: 93.8kg
Michelle Loss: 3.7kg
Wow, that’s a huge result. Almost the equal of Selena in raw weight and she’s 50kg lighter!
Bek Previous: 114.4kg
Bek Current: 111kg
Bek Loss: 3.4kg
Girl Total So Far: 11.2kg
So the White Team, so far, have done their part. That’s half the loss they need with just three of their girls tallied.
Lisa Previous: 94.3kg
Lisa Current: 91.1kg
Lisa Loss: 3.2kg
Another girl who’s done her part to get them over the line. And she says it’s very exciting to almost be under the 90kg mark.
Then Hayley brings up Temptation and Lisa’s revelation of a connection with Simon. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
They have a lot in common and enjoy each other’s company. And “he’s helping me learn to trust again!” AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! The girls are all giggling.
Simon is making her happy! And Simon’s liked her companionship and the time he gets to spend with her, etc.
Lisa thinks her boys would be happy she’s found a friendship.
Kasey Previous: 118.4kg
Kasey Current: 115.9kg
Kasey Loss: 2.5kg
Not done her part!
Girl Total So Far: 16.9kg
Lydia Previous: 124.1kg
Lydia Current: 122.3kg
Lydia Loss: 1.8kg
Before stepping on the scale she says she would be happy to have lost 3-3.5kg. So she’s got about half that!
Everyone’s quite shocked.
18.7kg the girls now sit on with just Margie to go.
Lydia thinks maybe the diet they’ve put together this week was a bit carb rich. Hey Mish, what have the other girls been eating? Same as Lydia. Even some of the White girls have been eating the same meals.
Mish says she knows Lydia works very hard in training so it can only be the nutrition letting her down.
Last to weigh in is Margie. She’ll need to have lost at least 1.9kg. And she’s been on the same diet as Lydia, so she’s a bit worried.
Realistically, with working out alone Margie should have dropped that much quite easily.
Margie Previous: 141.7kg
Margie Current: 136.3kg
Margie Loss: 5.4kg
See, told you so!
And it’s clearly not the diet, Lydia. So pull your finger out!
Girl Total: 24.1kg
Plus Advantage: 26.1kg
Girl Percentage: 3.11%
So the girls win the weigh in and the boys will face elimination. So bad! Be ashamed, boys!
Margie’s also the week’s Biggest Loser thanks to that result. Mish is bouncing up and down in excitement and the rest of the girl team are all very stoked as well.
Boys, you will be facing Elimination. DUN DUN DUN.
Black will be facing Elimination for the third week in a row.
Boys will now have to pick two teammates from amongst themselves to face Elimination. Hamish can’t be picked as he has Immunity.
Shannan reminds us that they’d had a gentleman’s agreement to always put the smallest loser up. Will that hold in the face of it being Luke who’ll have to go up?
Graham’s going up for the Black guys as he had the lowest percentage this week. Simon asks him if he’s sure and Graham says yes, we had an agreement and he’ll continue to stick by that.
Hamish, Luke and Ryan will now have to nut it out. Hamish is first to talk, saying he couldn’t live if Luke went. Luke’s someone who can push him further, as well as Shannan, and that’s obviously a big thing for him.
Luke would, of course, be gutted if he had to go home today. Der.
Ryan says he won’t let Luke go up because he wouldn’t feel right still being there with Luke gone, given the efforts Luke’s put in for the team compared to his own effort.
So Ryan’s going to put himself forward and Luke’s going to let him? Simon checks Ryan fully understands the risks and Ryan says he does and he needs to do what he feels is right.
Well, it’ll be byebye Ryan then, right? The girls won’t send Graham home, surely? Everyone wants to smoosh Graham!
And now it’s time to go to Elimination. The girls rock up first and wait for the boys to file in. It is, of course, Ryan and Graham who come in. None of the girls seem particularly surprised.
Michelle is surprised Graham is there though she couldn’t really picture anyone else coming in instead of him, either.
Hayley says to Ryan that he lost the best percentage of all the boys so why is he there? Ryan says he’s taken the place of Luke because Luke’s put in the hard work and it’s not his fault he had a small number this week. They did have a “smallest goes up” agreement but Ryan couldn’t live with himself if Luke had taken the fall.
For Ryan it was about honour.
Ryan’s not sure how he’ll go on the outside without Shannan to push him and the right food being available. Let’s be honest here, Ryan. Even with the right food you still eat like a pig. So you’re still a bit stuffed anyway!
Ryan says if he goes home and starts back on the wrong track he’ll be dead within five years and they’ll be attending his funeral.
Graham’s there because of the lowest percentage pact. He knows he still needs to be there. His main goal is to get married and start a family, blah blah blah. He says that every fucking time, it’s getting really old now. Maybe if you didn’t bang on about it you’d have better luck?
Ryan’s final plea is to point out that he needs to lose another 90kg to be a threat to anyone there within the game and if anyone votes for him as a tactical choice they’re not really thinking things through.
Well, you just screwed yourself, Ryan. Make a plea based on why you need to stay, not why the other guy should go!
Graham just says whatever the decision he won’t hold any hard feelings against the ladies.
Vote now! Vote now! Vote now!
First to four votes goes home.
Michelle’s voting entirely with her heart. One of the men has worked with integrity and honour and worked through injuries since Day One and thus more deserving of their place at Camp. So she’s voting for the other guy – Ryan!
Margie’s got a clearcut decision in front of her. One of the gentleman sitting there has played and worked hard, her vote has gone to Ryan, too.
Bek says both boys deserve to be in the house so she’s had to base her vote on the work and effort of the two in that environment. So her vote has also gone to Ryan. Big surprise.
Three votes to Ryan, none for Graham!
Lydia wishes them both the best of luck, they both need to be there and they’ve both had the same opportunity to grasp this chance and only one of them has.
She’s also voted for Ryan.
Four votes to Ryan, don’t need to see the rest of the votes, Ryan’s going home. Finally.
Ryan’s not surprised. He knew he was walking in there against Graham and even Ryan himself wouldn’t’ve voted for Graham. Awwww!
After saying he holds no grudges he bursts into tears. Awwww!
Selena says he’s a strong man, he’s just got to believe in himself and the weight will drop off so quickly. Margie says much the same. She knows what it’s like to doubt yourself but he can do it. And they’re both from Queensland so when she’s out as well she’ll be in contact. Awww, softie!
Margie says the hardest thing is getting your shoes on and getting started. Everything after that will come.
Ryan’s going to change his diet, do more exercise, join a gym, get his friends to play sport with him on the outside and so on. The Biggest Loser has started to save his life, he says. The rest is up to him.
Margie suggests shaving his beard, Ryan says there’s probably a kilo in that.
Say byebye, Ryan.
Ryan says he’s got a lot out of this experience. He’s started steps to making himself happy. It’s not the end of his journey it’s the kickstart he needed.
4 weeks later… He gets an hour to two of training every day and sees his personal trainer four times a week. And he can run, it seems, not just on the treadmill. Still a bit uncoordinated but he’s getting better.
He’s now down to 195kg, after starting at 241kg, so he’s kept going on the outside which is always good to see!
Tomorrow night… the Battle of the Sexes is over, but the battle against the bulge continues. And Commando Steve’s going to get extra tough with his team.
Then, Immunity Week! Starts off with shifting a bunch of bricks across a lawn. It’s a tonne of bricks they’re having to move, apparently.
Luke knows the only thing that will save him is having Immunity, so expect a lot of angst from him this week when Hamish eats his way to victory again!
