TBL 7×04 – Tempted By Temptation? Challenged By A Challenge? Cuckoo For Cocoa Puffs?
Previously on The Biggest Loser the contestants weighed in for the first time, trained for the first time and were Temptationed for the first time!
Everyone shared their deepest darkest secrets in the Loser Lounge.
Tonight, MOAR TEMPTATION! More training, too. And Shannan’s going to get stroppy with Hamish.
Also the first Challenge for the year kicks off. With flippers. Oars? It’s on the water.
“You play, you pay.” Shannan’s mantra for Temptations.
As the show picks up we’re back in the Temptation room. The Wheel of Temptation now has 13 wedges of Immunity and 13 of Calorie laden treats!
So, anyone tempted now? Nope.
James is very, very tempted. But everyone’s telling him not to. Will he cave? Hayley’s not going to increase the odds any further.
Tempted?
Anyone? Anyone?
James says he feels bad for them, putting that wheel together and nobody’s going to spin it?
Ryan’s hoping James won’t, because if they end up in elimination Ryan goes from a 1 in 4 chance to a 1 in 3 chance.
James tells us his life has been about being comfortable. Giving into Temptation is pretty much a daily thing for him. Every time he gets larger he knows he’s getting further away from his ideal life.
Hayley asks one more time. Tempted?
Nope. Well done, everyone!
Now Temptation’s over it’s time to head to Training.
Bek thinks Ryan could have used the Immunity since he’s the largest guy and she never sees him working out.
Ryan and Luke are having a chat afterwards and they’re a bit worried about James, but more worried about Hamish. Hamish hasn’t been sticking to Shannan’s diet plan, he picks at food throughout the day and pretty much eats what he wants.
Lydia, Margie and Bek are having a gab over an airer. They all thought Ryan might have had a go at Immunity because he’s never working out – montage of shots of Ryan sleeping in the lounge!
Apparently some of the Blue boys had three steaks for dinner the other night, which is about half Bek’s total daily intake, she says.
Lydia, Margie and Bek have a special bond, Bek says. So she thinks the other three White girls might suspect her of shenanigans.
And the White girls do think she has an alliance. Which they’re not real happy about.
But they’re all going to work super hard and hopefully avoid facing an elimination.
Shannan’s got them all in the gym for a chat before training. He’s very pleased none of them took part in Temptation, thinks they’re going well as a result.
The boys all have their commitment letters for Shannan. James says his two main points are to give 100% all the time and promise to support the team. And the other three all say much the same. No quitting, etc.
Now for the bad news. Homework?
James only did 300 calories of his 600 calories. He was tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired. Shannan’s not impressed. Hamish also did 50% of his calories. Luke did his homework but if one team member fails, they all fail!
Shannan put their training together on his computer last night so the boys would have an advantage. He was up till 11.30 and then back up and training at 5.15. He was feeling great about his plan and his team. But they’ve ripped his heart out. Awwww!
And so, “You play, you pay!” They’re going to learn how to put up with discomfort. He’s going to show them how to burn calories faster, interval training and so on.
First ten minutes he’s got them going well, but Ryan’s fading fast. And then BOOP. Down he goes. Shannan encourages him to get up quicker because he doesn’t want Ryan having his weight on his knees too long like that.
To Ryan’s credit, he gets back up quite quickly and onto the treadmill again.
Hamish is struggling mightily. Shannan can see that as soon as the discomfort started, they’re looking for a way out.
Shannan saw Hamish’s anger and power yesterday, so he knows he can do it. Hamish was screaming in pain yesterday but it wasn’t from the exercise, it was from the emotional pain.
His family’s coddled him and everyone else has bullied him. But there’ll be none of that in the Blue Team. No coddling, no bullying, just hard work!
Hamish starts yelling out sorry! Sorry! And off the treadmill he goes and won’t get back on. Hamish is in tears, Ryan keeps closing his eyes and tumbling off the treadmill. They’re not doing a good job of earning back his respect.
Shannan drags a bin out in front of the treadmills, grabs their letters and tears them up and dumps them in the bin before storming out of the gym with a big slam of the flappy doors. Oh dear!
Meanwhile, Hamish is still crying and saying sorry.
Luke says the worst bit is that once Shannan leaves the other three get off the treadmills. But with some urging from Luke and pointing out that Shannan’s the expert and it’ll go quicker with his help than without, they’re all finally back on the treadmill. Or at least Hamish and Ryan are. Can’t see James?
Ahh, James is on the cross trainer.
Luke’s worried about the team’s future.
Meanwhile, Commando Steve’s brought the medic to see Alex who has a sore ankle and is resting it up on his bed.
They’ve done a scan on his ankle and he’s got a major rupture of the achilles and will need to see a specialist. Not good news. Worse, he’s on enforced bed rest until then.
Alex apologises to Commando Steve but Steve says there’s no need to apologise, this sort of thing happens. He’s got there through neglect but he can still turn things around. The good diet alone should see him lose some weight this week but they would’ve been counting on him to drop a good amount the first week…
Mish has her people out in the outside gym. Two of the ladies didn’t train. Uhoh.
Lydia’s the only one who got up to train. So three of the ladies didn’t train?
They had to see the nutritionist at 6. Lydia was up at 5.30am to train.
Mish reluctantly hands out the heart rate monitors, which were supposed to be a reward for this morning’s training, but will now let her know when they’re not training!
Commitment letters? Nope. Everyone’s forgotten their letters. Mish is looking a bit frazzled!
Mish is getting a bit irked so she’s pushing the girl’s hard in training today. Lots of tires being lifted over heads and lots of dragging Mish across the court.
Brenda’s struggling physically but struggling even more mentally. Mish tells her she’s been through enough in her life that she should be able to do this.
Her biological clock is ticking, Mish says, and she’s running out of time. It’s time to get real and face the challenges head on.
Brenda’s feeling pretty wrecked but she’s gutting it out, she’s trying to find the energy to keep going as long as Mish asks her to and she gets one more flip and then Mish congratulates her and gives her a big hug.
So where was this strong woman before? When she was fighting for a relationship, fighting for jobs, fighting to lose her weight.
Brenda doesn’t want to talk about it there. Why not, Mish asks? Is that what she’s always done, walked away from the question?
Where was that strong woman? Because Mish is going to bring her back!
Next morning it’s time for the contestant’s very first challenge!
Alex is out of action for the Black Team still, though he’s with the group. I can’t imagine they’d let him row with a busted achilles?
Anyway, they’re at the Anzac Bridge. And this is the biggest challenge in the history of Biggest Loser.
Today they’ll be rowing and towing. Rowing an icon of Sydney beaches, a surf lifesaving boat. And they’ll be towing an icon of Sydney Harbour, a 110 tonne ferry! Honk honk honk!
Each team must tow their ferry 500 metres, untie their rowboat from the ferry and row back to the start. The first team to get back will receive a 2kg weight advantage at the first competitive weigh-in.
Mish looks quite displeased! Probably because she has the weak girly girl team, not the strong manly men team.
Due to injury Alex has been ruled out but the rowboats require a 4 man crew. So Commando Steve will be taking the fourth spot. He’s actually looking forward to the challenge.
To make it fair the other teams are also allowed to sub their trainer for one of the contestants, if they so choose.
Tiff tells her team they can do it, they’re strong in the heart and teamwork will get it done.
Mish and her team say much the same.
Shannan asks his team if anyone wants to step down and let him row. “Nope.” – Ryan speaks for the team. They’re obviously all looking to make it back up to Shannan.
Most of them have never rowed a boat before in their lives. Some have been on boats, but nothing that small!
The trainers are all in the boats along with the coxswain, so they’ve all got their motivational peeps aboard.
All the teams struggle at first. The Blue boys think they’re rowing on the spot and making no progress against the weight of the ferry.
Alex is up on the ferry calling encouragement down to his team while Steve tries to get them to dig deep.
Meanwhile the old girly girls of Red are in the lead thanks to the excellent organisation of Mish! Getting them all to pull together as much as possible.
Black’s in second place and Steve’s saying damned if they’re going to be beaten by the Red team!
Simon and Shane are joking afterwards that they’re having to pull the 110t ferry and the 160kg of Alex and wonder if they can do it again once he’s lost some weight!
Blue are in 3rd place with White bringing up the rear. But Tiff’s talking a big game, saying she’s going to beat the Blue boys… and not long after they go sailing past!
Shannan’s trying to fire up his team talking about him walking out and how bad that made them feel, letters didn’t mean anything, etc. It doesn’t seem to work too well.
Meanwhile White’s lost their mojo and Blue overtakes them again!
Bek’s setting a cracking pace and not looking behind her and the bickering has started.
Meanwhile Red and Black are still way out in front with Black slowly closing the gap. Steve says there’s no way he was going to let the Red team beat the Black team, not with him in the boat rowing!
And about 100m in the Black boys pull ahead of Red. But there’s still a long pull ahead.
Black Team is doing it for themselves and for Alex. That 2kg advantage is likely to be crucial for them.
Tiff’s worried about her team and the way they’re failing to click as a unit. They’re a bit like a bunch of highschool girls.
Shannan’s team are having troubles too. Ryan gets pushed in the gut by his oar and falls over backward and starts laughing. Shannan’s pissed! Says that if he was in a race with three of his mates and he fell over like that he wouldn’t be laughing about it, he’d spring back up and apologise to his team and get stuck back in.
The Blues knuckle down and get their rhythm back yet again. They’re trying a “one, two, three, pulllllll” approach. Which isn’t working!
Red’s regaining some of their lost ground against the Black team as the boys start to tire and lose focus.
Steve loves to train and train hard but even he’s finding the challenge a tough one. He’s looking forward to crossing the line and dumping that ferry.
Mish sees her team’s chance as the Black team tires, but Black get to the buoy first and after some confusion over whether they were done they finally unclip the ferry and get their boat turned around.
But Red gets there not far behind and Mish can hear Steve’s voice booming at his team. It’s going to be a sprint to the finish.
ON MONDAY! Arg.
Monday we find out who wins the challenge and then the first competitive weigh-in of the year.
With a twist nobody saw coming, Mr Voiceover Man informs us. There’s some kind of one-off opportunity to change the outcome of the weigh-in?
The trainers are fuming after the elimination and the teams are in tatters. It’s not clear if the trainers are pissed at each other, suspect that might be some dodgy editing.
Guess we’ll find out in a coupla days. Beautiful.
