TBL 6×51: Train the Trainers Day!

Previously on The Biggest Loser… JOE WAS SENT HOME.

Oh, sorry. That was Monday’s episode. I’m still so happy!

Last night saw the sending home of Rebecca, again, after her unsurprising loss to Sarah in a tug-o-war.
The remaining contestants then went on their Reflection Hike, loading backpacks with the weight they’ve lost over the past however many weeks it’s been and hiking their way through some sand dunes, the location of which was not disclosed. That I can recall, anyway.

TONIGHT! TRAIN THE TRAINERS! Yeah babyyyy!

Then an off-road race versus an off-road car. Huh? Cars go faster than people.
Also Leigh will hop out of a perfectly good plane! Tandem skydive to overcome his fear of heights. Maybe.

But first the contestants wander into the loungeroom where a TV has been set up. It’s showing them past training sessions and how hard they’ve worked over the last few weeks… all leading up to the announcement of Train the Trainers day!

The trainers rock up some time later and there’s no contestants! Oh noes!
But then the contestants come jogging from another room. And they’re all in gear like their respective trainers!
Emma’s wearing Tiffiny’s top, Sarah and Kellie are kitted out in camo pants and black singlets, Leigh’s got a blue singlet on and Nate has a red one on.

Sarah tells them that today the four trainers are going to experience an intimate relationship with pain!
Michelle and Shannan look amused and scared. They’ve done it before, of course, so they know what they’re in for. Kinda.
Steve’s not experienced this before but he’s still looking forward to seeing what his girls have learned.

Sarah says it’s going to be IN YOUR FACE. Willis, give me 10! Now! Steve’s too busy laughing and Tiff’s all, “Oh my god, get down and do 10 pushups, Commando!” While trying not to laugh out loud at Sarah barking in Steve’s face.
Seriously, funniest shit all season, and it’s come from SARAH?! I’m amazed!

Nathaniel says he doesn’t feel like walking up the stairs to the gym. So she’s going to carry him! Up the stairs. Then down them. Not once, or twice, or three times. Four times! Her legs are trembling a little as she gets up the top the final time, definitely breathing heavy but she knows it’s only the start!

Leigh says Shannan’s been causing him and his family pain for the last few weeks, now it’s Shannan’s turn. Shannan says he’s earned it. He’s looking forward to proving over the next hour that he’s the man he’s represented himself as throughout the season.
Shannan has to start with the ten punches, one pushup, twenty punches, two pushups, all the way up to one hundred punches thing Leigh’s done a few times. Leigh’s best time is 3mins 58secs, can Shannan beat that? Shannan says you betcha! And he tells us there’s no way he’s going to let Leigh beat him.
Leigh’s adamant that Shannan’s going to cry or throw up before the end.

Shannan gets through the exercise with more than a minute left on the clock. Seriously crazy fit dude.

Next up is holding one glove in the air and doing a 30 second spin and then do a bunch of punches on the heavy bag. The idea being that you can’t fall over from dizziness, mind over matter and so on. Leigh had done this not so long ago.
But Leigh’s being cheeky and has upped the spinning part to a full minute. Shannan knows Leigh is trying to break him.
Shannan’s panting by the end of his additional ten pushups and ten burpies. But he’s not out yet!

Meanwhile Emma’s got Tiff doing star jumps while counting them out.
For three months Tiff’s been chasing Emma around with the blue noodle, swinging it at her, making her jump or duck or block so she’s having fun with that too.
Tiff says at one point that the Dojang is HOT. Emma says she knows, she’s told Tiff that every session and she’s just got on with it! Get down and do some burpies!
Oh, you’re tired? Well we’re going to do some “Active Recovery”. Which means just keep training! Boxing this time. Then some kicks on the bag, too. Lots of shouting and screaming going on.

Sarah’s got Steve into the shed-gym and she says they’ve got to set some ground rules.
Number one, no excuses!
Number two, off with the shirt!

I think a legion of ladies just fell in love with you, Sarah. And probably some dudes.
Sarah confirms that that’s why she made him do it. She knows lots of women love Steve’s muscles.

Steve knows they’re going to try and break him in this session but he thinks they should bring it on!

Sarah’s pushing the Commando on the treadmill to start and he admits he’s hurting a little. But Sarah doesn’t want to hear his excuses today!
But that’s just the warmup. 50 chinups are up next.

Kellie gives him a 10/10 for the chinups with his shirt off. He’s doing them so vigorously the stand is actually rocking back and forth.

He’s hot now? Aww. Well, let’s go cool off with some pushups in the puddle. 100 pushups.
Steve’s burning and hurting, he admits to us. But he’s not going to stop. He’s going to push himself as hard as he can to show the girls how exercise should be done.
He gets through his 100 pushups but he’s obviously starting to have a bit less fun with it now!

Time to head out onto the oval. Kellie says she can see the old Army days are coming back to him and he’s just going to do whatever task set for him.
They’ve got him doing a commando crawl over the grass, which they say is a much nicer surface than the rocks and glass and mud the girls had to deal with.

“Payback is going to be bittersweet. Every dog has its day.”

Then they’ve got a rope set up to pull four tires across the mud and grass. While Kellie sits atop them!
Steve’s not given up once and Sarah says they’ve got so much respect for him.

Back with Tiffiny and Emma and Tiff says the noodle’s got a bit of bite!
Duncans are famous for sticking together and what’s Tiff famous for? Tiff squats! That’s where Tiff is piggybacked by a contestant who does squats with her added weight.

Then it’s time for Tiff to break some wood, as she once promised Emma would be able to do.
Only Tiff’s not just doing it with simple hand chops, she’s doing it with hand chops and elbows and palms and the final board break is an amazing kick where Emma’s holding the board up while standing on top of some boxes. Tiff’s not the tallest of ninjas and the board is about half a foot above her head. But she squares up and sets herself then springs into action and nails the kick perfectly.
Seriously, kids. Do not fuck with Tiffiny Hall!

Leigh’s getting Shannan to clear up the gym. There’s four boxing bags on the hooks and Leigh wants them moved up to the other end of the yard.
Shannan tells us it’s been raining for four days and the weight of the bags has gone from 50kg to 70kg. Back-breakingly heavy, Shannan says.

Oh, but he’s not just carrying them up one end. Oh no. He’s got to move the bag up to the other end and then to get back to the other end of the yard to get his next bag? He has to crawl forward a few steps, do a pushup, crawl forward, etc.

“Had enough yet?” “Nah mate. We’re not finished!”
Okay, let’s get in the ring!

Leigh thinks this’ll be his chance to have an advantage over Shannan, now Shannan’s arms are exhausted.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be so sure of that. I think you’re just going to have pissed him off and Shannan will break out the mongrel inside!

After an ad break they’re gearing up for the bout. And then they get into the ring.
Shannan knows Leigh used to be a kickboxer, so he’s got to be a bit careful. Back at the start it only took Shannan 15 seconds to break Leigh.

But Leigh’s doing well to start with! Landing a couple of good punches on Shannan’s head and a few good body shots.
But then Shannan finds his range and his rhythm and starts picking Leigh off at will. Even asking Leigh where he wants the next shots to land and Shannan obliges, punching away at his body and following up with some uppercuts to the face.
Shannan says you can’t make up for 20 years of experience and there was no way he’d let Leigh win today!
Shannan says well done to Leigh afterwards and confesses that’s the hardest Train the Trainer he’s ever done, which is about the biggest compliment he could give, given past seasons.

Nathaniel’s got Michelle on the treadmill running at 20km/hr. She says you can’t make any false moves at that speed or you get spat off the back.
But she’s warm now? Yes, she’s warm now. No bucket required. Yet!
Nate’s then got her doing 50 turkish getups? Holding a weight above her head while getting down to the ground, then back up. Over and over.
Mish tells us she’d forgotten how much they hurt. I don’t think she’ll go so long without doing them herself in the future!
But there’s no quit in her.

Now Nathaniel’s going to use himself as the weight on the leg press machine, as Michelle has been so fond of doing to the contestants in the past. Nathaniel’s 88kg on the weight machine are obviously proving a challenge for Michelle and Nate asks if she’s glad she got so much weight off him now and she sure is!
Nathaniel’s training is very heavy on the legs, Michelle says. She thinks she might actually fall over at any minute.
Nathaniel’s throwing some of her own lines back at her, which she says does sting a little.
But she’ll keep on going till she falls over.
Nate tells her to keep going, push through the pain, etc. Mish says she’ll do it for him. Awwww!

Nate also says it’s not over yet, as the other contestants have said to their trainers.

They’ve just been smashed in training and now they’re assembled on the paradeground… for their own fitness assessment. Which of the trainers is the fittest?

First round? 100m sack race! Bwahahaha!
First three to the finish line move on, last place is eliminated.

Second round? Egg and spoon race!
Last place is again eliminated.

Third round, hold a pole to your head, getting dizzy for 20 seconds and then a 50m sprint. Leigh says that’s his favourite!

But the trainers are all saying “Bring it on!” There’s a lot of competition between the trainers and they all want to be the top trainer.
Michelle is feeling completely smashed from Nate’s workout and she looks at the other trainers and knows they feel the same.

But none of them are going to give up. If they were quitters they wouldn’t be where they are now!

Shannan actually gives Steve a shove while they’re on the starting line and then they’re off!
Shannan takes a huge lead, probably because his legs didn’t get as much of a workout. Tiff’s in second place with Commando Steve struggling to stay ahead of Mish.
As they get to the halfway mark though, Steve hits the “Energiser Bunny button” as Michelle calls it, and almost overtakes Tiff right at the finish line.

But Michelle’s in last so she’s eliminated. Awww!

Next up is egg and spoon race.
Shannan’s at the start line and his hands are shaking like mad so he can barely even keep the egg on the spoon while standing perfectly still.
And if the egg drops and breaks you have to come back and get a new one, so there’s no point setting off!
Meanwhile Michelle’s laughing at him. A lot.

Tiffiny leaps off like a gazelle and takes an early lead.
Steve’s strategy in the egg and spoon race? “Not drop the damn egg!”

On Steve’s way back to the finish line Shannan tries to block his progress but while walking backwards he drops his own egg off the spoon, much to the delight of everyone. Shannan has a grin on his face as he jogs back for a new egg.

Tiffiny crosses the finish line and smashes her egg onto the ground in victory.
Steve gets across the line and shoves the egg in his gob and chews on it. Crazy man!

So it’s down to Tiffiny and Steve!

They have to lean over with their forehead on the top of the pole and spin around and around, 25 times in total, then run 50 metres up the parade ground and back.

Tiff’s letting out all sorts of interesting squawks as she spins and Shannan calls out that the noises aren’t going to help her!
Tiff makes it through a half dozen spins and then loses control and faceplants onto the ground while giggling like a lunatic. Shannan and Michelle are in the background laughing their arses off.

Then Michelle sees The Commando twirling in the background, points at him and her and Shannan laugh even harder.

Steve tells us that they’re all laughing and having a good time, “But in all seriousness, please kids, don’t do this at home!”

Steve finally gets through his 25 spins and tries to run as straight as he can… which is not at all straight. He almost veers over right into the contestants but narrowly avoids them and eventually faceplants while laughing his arse off. Michelle can’t even stand up straight anymore she’s laughing so hard.

Steve gets back to his feet and heads off as Tiffiny completes her 25 spins and sets off. In the wrong direction. Then falls over again. But she gets up and gets through the race in the end.

Steve, of course, finishes in first place, taking his rightful place as the Ultimate Trainer!

Later the contestants are in the loungeroom relaxing. Leigh’s freaked out that it’ll be payback training session right now, in which case he’ll be DEAD!

Time to go out and have some fun though. Off-site training. Fun in the sun and all that.

Except for Leigh, who has something else in store for him, Shannan says. DUN DUN DUN!

Leigh stays behind and Shannan says there’s one piece of the puzzle that’s more important for Leigh than another training session.

The other contestants are off into some bushland where there’s a rally car. Nate’s hoping they’ll get to do a hot lap in it.

But no, Michelle says. It’s man vs machine. The dudes in the car will be hooning over 50km. Michelle and the contestants will be hot footing it for 5km through the scrub.
May the best man or machine win!

Eli and Glen from the Honda Rally Team know all about teamwork. And that’s what it’ll take for the contestants to win today.
Kellie says they’re excited to be competing as a team when they normally compete against each other. They all want to win as a team.

Michelle’s running and encouraging the contestants, Steve’s got the starter’s flag.
Michelle says she’s all for pumping the contestants up and encouraging them but she’s thinking to herself… can they really do this?

Meanwhile, Leigh and Shannan are in some random field. Leigh’s blindfolded and thinking Shannan’s leading him to a cliff he’d have to abseil down.
But no.
Shannan says he knows that on the Biggest Loser they’re always taking things to the extreme. Well…

There’s a plane. That says Sydney Skydivers on the side. Leigh’s ultimate fear.
Leigh let his fear get the better of him in Tasmania when having to abseil down the building.
Leigh’s never faced his fear of heights before. It’s always defeated him in the past.
But he knows he’ll freak out up there and he just has to do it.

As they go through the safety instructions and getting geared up, Leigh is freaking out a lot.
Shannan says he’s at the peak of his fitness now and if he can’t go through with it today he’s not likely to ever be better prepared than this.

Back at the race Nathaniel is leading the pack through the scrub. Everyone’s amazed at the new Nathaniel’s fitness. Nate’s calling out any rocks in the path and stopping at any mossy ridges to help the non-trainer girls over them.
Nathaniel’s also very appreciative of the support from the girls as they move through the scrub.

They’re getting close to the end and can hear the car powering towards the finish line as well. If they’re going to win they’re going to have to push harder!

Tiffiny’s at the finish line waiting to flag the winner across the line. And Michelle doesn’t care if they throw up after the finish line, so long as they beat that car!

And then as the contestants sprint across the finish line the car comes around a corner in the distance and heads towards Tiffiny bouncing around with her flag in excitement. Hee!

They’re all very excited to have won the race. But now it’s time for the fun part – a hot lap in a Honda Civic R!

Leigh’s not talking a lot on the plane. He’s looking out a window. Then Shannan points out the clear door they skydive through.
And Leigh looks a bit scared. And then Shannan says they’re only halfway up and Leigh looks a lot more scared!

3 minutes to jump time and Leigh’s freaking out and saying he can’t do it. And Shannan says yes he can!

Goggles on, yellow light, one minute!

Leigh’s tandem skydive partner is being very encouraging and telling him he’ll be fine as they edge towards the door. Leigh’s trying to hang on to things and not wanting to let go. Tandem skydive guy is trying to pry his hand away from the door. Eep!

After another ad break Leigh’s still stuck at the doorway. Come on dude, you can do it!
Leigh’s tandem dude eventually gets him out the door and away they go.

Then we see post-dive Leigh and he says he was LOVING IT. Loving every minute of it.

Shannan says they do a somersault as they come out of the plane and he lost his bearing for a bit but then you level out and it’s a great feeling.

Leigh’s tandem guy has popped the parachute and Leigh’s still having the time of his life, despite being up way higher than he was in Tasmania. He says the fear is gone, he’s left the old Leigh behind.

Shannan’s butt had barely hit the ground when he was almost bowled over by a jubilant Leigh.
Leigh had so much fun he’s actually going to do it again! Shannan boggles. Leigh says he’s going to take Lara with him, too!
Leigh thanks Shannan for helping him and his family and he’s looking forward now to taking out the whole competition.

Sunday night… the training session to end all training sessions. The last Last Chance Training.
Out on the paradeground in the middle of the night with firehoses soaking them to the bone.

Then the final weigh-in before the Finale. And the final elimination. Five will be reduced to four.

Then, Monday Night, in a two hour special episode, the Grand Finale! 8.30pm-10.30pm. Check local guides.
