TBL 6×43: Chicken on a raft, chicken on a raft, hiiii-yoooo, chicken on a raft!

Previously on The Biggest Loser the contestants prepared themselves for the transplantation of a second head onto their bodies when they arrive in Tasmania.

Sailing from Sydney to Hobart is one of the toughest challenges in Australian sport and so naturally they’ve decided to put 6 people who’ve only been training for two months on a boat and do it.
Will Shannan and Michelle drown to death?

Find out tonight!

Sharlene’s still raving about how awesome it is to be sailing on the boat as the episode starts up.

Lots of time for reflection as the boat cruises along. They’ll know who they really are when they get to Hobart!

They’ve got rotating shifts set up and Sarah and Kellie are on the grinders for the first night shift for the first night at sea.
Only three hour shifts but Sarah and Kellie are both looking worse for wear after their first shift. Sarah says she’s feeling exhausted and sick but her and Kellie settle into their hammockbunks for a snooze.

Meg and Sharlene have the next shift as the waves starting chopping up a lot more. A storm’s blowing in, Shannan says, and the spinnaker blows out again. This time half of it rips and winds up in the ocean, lost to them, but they manage to drag in the rest of it. Not sure how much use half a spinnaker will be but they’ve got it!
Everyone’s up on deck to try and get things sorted out.

Next morning dawns a lot bleaker. The Skipper says they’ve done well so far but fatigue will start to set in. And they’re about to head into Bass Strait, where things are likely to get much choppier and the Skipper says they’ve got to treat it with respect because people have lost their lives trying to cross.

Michelle’s grinning it up with Kellie and Sarah. She asks Kellie how she’s doing and Kellie says she’s packing it!

Kellie’s really scared of the yacht capsizing and getting stuck.
Kellie used to be big into the beach and swimming in the ocean but it’s been about 11 years since she was in the water, apparently. She knew deep down that her kids were missing out on things and she was always moody and horrible and she has no idea how her husband put up with her.
But no more! First thing she’s doing when she gets back is taking her kids to the beach. Yay!

Early afternoon of the second day they’re officially entering Bass Strait. This is the most dangerous part of their journey and will be the hardest on them. The area is notorious for sudden weather shifts and plenty of sailors with more experience than them have lost their lives.

Sarah’s still battling with seasickness but she’s powering through her turns on the grinder and Michelle is very impressed with her efforts.

Shannan and Sharlene are having a chat as they roll through Bass Strait.
Apparently Craig and Sharlene parted on a slightly sour note so she’s a little worried about going home and getting back together as a family. But she knows that’s something they’ll have to work on as a couple.
Shannan then reveals that he has a letter from Craig inside his lifejacket for Sharlene. Yay!

Craig says he loves her so much and he apologises for being “a complete AH” while they were at Camp. But he’s looking forward to them renewing their vows at his birthday? I think that’s what she said.

Michelle’s having a chat with the skipper and something else has gone wrong. There’s a pin or something bent or broken at the top of the main mast and so they have to send one of the trained sailors up there to inspect it. So she’s climbing up there in some pretty rough seas while they try and keep the yacht as stable as possible. Crazy.
Kellie says to Joe that she’d rather swim to Hobart than climb that mast. Can’t say as I disagree on that, scary!
The Losers give her three cheers when she gets back down.

Sharlene’s having a bit of a rest and Shannan has another chat with her. She’s obviously tired but it’s giving her time to think about things. She’s surprised herself in the courage she’s got and the way she has no fear, she’s happy to be taking it all on.

Time for Sarah, Kellie and Mish to get up and go on shift again. As they get up on deck it’s pitch black and bitingly cold. Kellie says she can barely feel her fingers anymore.
Sarah’s actually quite chipper given that it’s 3am and they can’t have had much sleep.

Skipper says they’re across Bass Strait and another 24 hours and they’ll hit “The Organ Pipes” and will be able to turn towards Hobart and head up the Derwent River. Getting there, getting there!

Michelle’s had a good opportunity to get to know Kellie on the yacht ride. Mish says to her that Kellie’s like a secret weapon. She can get really fired up and competitive. Her Mum used to get upset with her coming second in races because she knew her girl could beat that other person.
Michelle’s got a letter for Kellie from her Mum saying that she’s really proud of Kellie and her weightloss so far and she looked great at Makeover. Stay strong! Go out and kick some butt and have a great time while you’re doing it.
Then we see an old picture of Kellie and she was huge! She says it doesn’t even look like the same person. The new her wants to be competitive at sports and get her kids into them.

Sharlene’s talking up the nice weather they’ve been having with Meg. Thus dooming them to a storm soon!

The Skipper’s got praise for the way they made it through Bass Strait. He says even though these guys had been morbidly obese just a few weeks earlier they all did really well in the crossing. It was a very safe, easy crossing overall.

Shannan’s having a chat with Leigh about the changes in him since the start. Leigh says he’s thinner now but more importantly he talks a lot more instead of being the quiet one hiding in the corner.
Shannan shows a picture of Leigh and Lara and Leigh says it’s quite scary. They were bringing out the worst in each other.
Shannan asks him if he had time to tell Lara how beautiful she looked at makeover and Leigh said he did, though it took him a while because his mouth was hanging open and he was drooling a lot. A common reaction!
Previously their weight had kept them from getting married but now he’s amazed by how strong he is and their relationship is.
Shannan says that there might be another Biggest Loser wedding and Sharlene says YAYYYYY!

Around 6pm they’re still cruising along – past whales! – and they’re all thinking they’ve seen the worst of it now.
But Shannan and the Skipper have noticed the barometer is dropping and they’ve got a bad weather warning. Winds up to 35 knots, 2-3 metre swells. And it’ll be right in their faces.
Meg’s not sure how fast a wind that is but she looks around at everyone else on the crew and there’s a lot of very serious faces…

The storm’s going to hit during the night so they’re all trying to get themselves prepared for the hard night ahead. If they put in the hard work they’ll come through okay. Time to knuckle down and just do it.

But they can see the weather starting to roll in and things look pretty grim.
The Skipper says he’s most concerned about keeping them all safe and even though the contestants have acquitted themselves well so far… he gets interrupted at that point as a bigger wave knocks them around a bit.

Shannan’s chatting to Sharlene as their shift starts. They’re with some of the best sailors in the world but they’re still doing it tough. Shannan admits he’s getting a little scared himself at this point.
Sea spray is whipping into their faces and some repairs on sails have already taken place.

Meanwhile as the swell picks up Kellie is barfing into a big white bucket. Repeatedly. She can’t keep anything down and Michelle recommends she stays on deck if she’s going to be sick.
Joe and Sarah meanwhile have to head below decks and get some medical attention as both are wet right through and their body temperatures are dropping as a result.

Michelle says Sarah and Kellie are both very sick and it would be easier for them to give up and go belowdecks and let the others deal with it… But neither of them do, they both stay up on deck and keep working through it as the night wears on.

As the next morning dawns the weather has cleared up nicely and Shannan’s on deck saying he’s so proud of everyone aboard. People bunked down wherever they could and covered each other’s shifts if they couldn’t quite front up. But everyone got through it as a team.
Meg says it was a defining moment in her journey to the new version of herself.
Sarah’s really pleased with the changes in her attitude.
Shannan says these contestants are definitely made of the right stuff!

Meg’s been rock solid throughout the trip, Shannan says, but there’s one final piece of the puzzle for her journey to be complete. Meg’s been losing the weight and her husband’s quit smoking while she’s gone so they can start a family.
The relationship between her and Emma is still not where it should be, things have been rough between them. So Shannan’s got a letter from Emma for Meg. Awwww!
Emma says Meg may have not said anything about the bullying she suffered but Emma should still have noticed. But all that will change now. Meg says to Shannan that they’re definitely a lot closer now as a result of being in the House.
Meg misses Emma so much, now that they’ve reformed their twin bond. Awwww!

Day 4 and Michelle is talking about how Joe’s learned a lot about family in his journey.
I still don’t think he’s learned a damn thing, personally.

Michelle has a picture of Joe, Damien and Greg sitting on a couch and being fat. He’s horrified by it still.
But he says Michelle’s done so much for him and he can’t thank her enough. He wants to go home and appreciate his wife and kids a lot more.

Sarah’s had one of the slower journeys but things have gotten a lot better for her during this trip. She’s got three things on her mind now – happiness, love and her new career. Before coming to Camp Biggest Loser she had a crap job she hated but now she knows she wants to be a police officer!
Old picture of Sarah is a big surprise to her. Ten weeks ago she knew she was big but she never really thought of herself as that big.
She’s changed a lot, Michelle says. The way she holds herself and talks to other people – and she even laughs!

Hours from Hobart and they’re about to face Storm Bay. Skipper says that even a seasoned sailor would find what was to come a challenge.
4-5 metre swells. 40-50 knot winds. And they’re sailing straight into it. Yikes!

Joe says as they rounded into the bay the sea just went “BANG!” And they’re into the huge surf and trying to keep the boat moving through it.

This program brought to you by Reducta, the naturally derived appetite suppressant. Thought Biggest Loser people said to avoid that sort of shit?

Meg and Sharlene are on the grinder as the waves start getting higher and higher. They put their foreheads together and just tell each other to hang in there.

The waves are getting too big for it to be safe for too many of them to stay up on deck so some of them head below decks. Kellie’s struggling to let go of the safety rope and make her way down as she’s scared she’s going to get dumped into the ocean.

As the waves pick up some more Sharlene is flung from the grinder and gets thumped hard onto the deck. And she’s not moving from the spot she was dumped so they’re going to have to drag her below decks to get her safe.
Meg’s very scared but she knows she can’t help Sharlene because if she lets go of the grinder they’re all stuffed. So she hangs on grimly and waits for Leigh and the medic to drag Sharlene below deck where they can look after her in relative safety.

Sharlene’s screaming in pain and shaking as she gets below deck. She’s gone into shock and has hurt her back, apparently.

Tomorrow night, Fears Week strikes again!
Lots more fears being faced, hills to climb, buildings to abseil off, canoeing, blizzards.

No sign of Sharlene in any of the clips though. I hope she’s going to be okay!
