TBL 6×36: We are family! do do dododo
Previously on The Biggest Loser Meg put on weight at the surprise weigh-in. 4kg! If she hasn’t lost weight by Sunday she will lose her Immunity.
The Contest was on for another week. As this is Immunity Week, Immunity is on offer at The Contest, too. Immunity immunity immunity!
As we left last night Lara and Leigh were about to start climbing on the Sky Wall, a constantly moving rock climbing wall. The first person to fall off would be out, the person remaining will get Immunity.
Neither Lara nor Leigh have done this before and neither is looking forward to it after all the cross training and treadmilling they’ve already done.
Leigh’s excited by finally getting to compete head to head with Lara for something.
Lara’s finding it tough to hold her body weight up at 73kg and says she’s glad she wasn’t trying to do it at 107kg!
Her foot slips on one of the nubby bits as it spins around and she struggles for a moment… but is saved by Leigh stepping down off the Wall. I think he might’ve been able to keep going, not sure.
He probably should have stepped aside for the love of his life anyway!
Lara’s now got Immunity, leaving just five contestants to battle for the final chance at Immunity. Hayley tells them to be prepared because that final chance could come at any time.
Black is now the only team without an Immunity up their sleeve which Kellie says just puts more fire in their belly.
Next day the trainers turn up to hear about The Contest and Lara is congratulated on her win.
They all share the idea of a massive challenge being on the way for the final Immunity.
Shannan tells us that it’s great to have Immunity at this stage since you can eat a bit more protein and carbs to give your body some extra time and energy to recover.
Steve says to them all that there’s no better way to prepare for a big challenge than training. So let’s get to it!
Tiff’s taking Meg out to the paradeground today. Going to be another hard slog to keep trying to shift those 4kg she gained. She ought to be able to do it, but we’ll see.
Tiff says she has 4 days to get 4kg off Meg.
And today they’re going to smash the things she ate in Temptation. Symbolically. With a sledgehammer on a tire.
Meg starts relaying the things she ate and drank at Temptation and Tiff starts realising there’s a much bigger problem here. She’s even had all her calorie intake in cans of lemonade alone, Tiff says.
We also get to see Meg’s new Dream Outfit – a really pretty blue dress instead of her blue miner overalls.
Tiff asks Meg to have a look at what she’s wearing – brand sports gear! Just regular people sports gear. She’s never been able to before and look at her now.
Tiffiny tells Meg that it’s important to recognise that everyone slips occasionally, you just have to get back on track after that.
5kg a week is Meg’s goal between now and Finale. That’s quite a lot, given she’s under the 100kg mark already!
But waiting at Finale is a Size 14 dress and everyone who loves her. Awww!
Steve’s got his girls in the big gym today, mostly to show them the giant banners with their original pictures.
Rebecca says she can tell she was unhappy then and Kellie said she looked uncomfortable because she didn’t like having her photo taken. There’s not even any pictures of her with her youngest kid because she couldn’t stand to be photographed.
Sarah says her eyes and the shape of her mouth show how depressed and lost she was. She’d never thought she could be a thin, fit person. She always thought she was meant to be that fat person, but she doesn’t believe it anymore.
Rebecca says she used to be a confident and outgoing person but when she put on all the weight she stopped being that person.
Time to train, Steve says!
Meanwhile Meg and Tiffiny are checking up on Meg’s nutrition. Tiff tells us it’s about 80% nutrition and 20% training so she’s checking the 80% is perfect.
Tiff recalls the serving sizes from staying with Meg. The average stomach is as big as your fist, she says, and the Duncans were eating off platters instead of plates!
Meg’s breakfast is an egg white omelette with 100g of chicken and some broccoli, spinach, zucchini, onion and capsicum.
Snack is 100g of chicken and some celery. Who cooks chicken for a snack?
Lunch is a chicken and vegetable stir fry thing.
Next snack is some more egg whites and celery.
Dinner is fish and some salad.
Tiff is super pleased. She says that it’s between 1,000 and 1,200 calories and that’s perfect. More than that and she’ll put on weight, less and the body goes into starvation mode.
Zero sugar, Tiff says. No more Temptation!
Steve’s got his girls doing circuit work again. One girl cycling on the spin bike for 2km while one girl boxes with Steve and another carries a 10kg weight around above her head.
Kellie’s attitude to training has changed a lot. She hated it to begin with and now she’s looking forward to it. She’d be proud to be in a photo with her family now.
Rebecca doesn’t want to go back to her banner self.
Sarah doesn’t either and Steve finally gets an extra effort out of Sarah instead of watching her give up, hooray!
Shannan has his peeps in for training. Three safe places are left, he says – one immunity and two people just plain above the Line.
Today’s a day for setting new benchmarks, Shannan tells them.
The fastest Sharlene’s run before is 10km/hr and today she’s going to do 12km/hr. She says before the show she’d never run anyway, barely ever walked even. That’s what she had a car for!
Sharlene finishes her run at 12km/hr and Shannan asks if she thinks she has another run in her. Sharlene says “Let’s do it!” And bumps the speed up to 13km/hr and Shannan boggles and is very pleased.
She manages to get through her run of 30 seconds at 13km/hr and so Shannan urges her onwards to go at 13.5km/hr.
The first couple of times she can’t quite do it and she tells us it wasn’t her body that got it done in the end, it was her mind. No such thing as “can’t!”
Leigh’s been set the task of running at 20km/hr – the fastest the treadmills can go.
Leigh has to do it for 30 seconds as well. Shannan reminds us that when Leigh arrived he was a broken little boy. At the first sign of discomfort he’d quit.
Not today! Shannan’s counting down the final seconds for the 30 second count and Leigh looks across to Shannan, grins and says let’s go for a minute!
And Shannan does a double take to us and wonders who this guy is!
Shannan tells Leigh he had him pegged as a 30secs maximum at 20km/hr and he’s just doubled it. Leigh just grins. Shannan tells us Leigh’s the first contestant he’s trained who’s managed 20km/hr for a minute straight. He’s very impressed by the change in Leigh.
But now it’s time for the Challenge!
They’re down on the beach, as we knew from the previews.
And Hayley reminds us that Meg, Joe and Lara have all won Immunity already. They’re all sitting back at Camp, secure in their Immune-ness!
But that’s not the case for the others. They’re going to battle it out today for the final Immunity ticket.
Today’s Challenge is to collect all the pieces to construct a flagpole. A base, sandbags and of course a pole. Presumably they pull the flag from their butts?
But before each piece is a log. And the only way to pass the log is to go under it.
Sarah’s laughing like a loon. The others seem less impressed.
They have to dig their way under the logs so they get to play in the sand. Fun!
And then Hayley says they’ll also need a flag. And their flags are 100m down the beach and the only way to get there is to swim through the waves.
Leigh says his girlfriend has beaten him at every stage of the competition but he’s going to keep some dignity and not let his Mum beat him as well.
Kellie and Leigh both figure the other to be their greatest competition. Probably a safe bet. Sharlene’s too old to be a threat, Rebecca’s too much of a princess and Sarah will quit!
The race starts and Leigh and Kellie take an early lead, getting to their logs first.
Sarah’s already complaining. She’s six foot two inches, she says, so how will she dig a hole underneath the log to get through?
Same way everyone else will manage to do it – hard work!
Leigh manages to squeeze through first and starts trudging back with his pole.
Kellie tries to squeeze through the gap she’s made but it isn’t quite big enough for her bum yet and she realises that as she gets stuck, though at least she was smart enough to go through face up so she’s bending the right way to wiggle through.
Sharlene’s tried to go under face down and head first. It didn’t go well and she quickly gives up and starts digging again.
Sarah’s stuck in much the same way as Kellie and she’s trying to dig her legs out a bit so she can wiggle through.
Then Sharlene’s stuck the same way, too!
Leigh’s up to his second log, meanwhile. And Kellie joins him a short while later. She’s determined to dig this hole bigger so she doesn’t get stuck for ages again.
Sarah’s complaining about Sharlene saying she can’t get through. She says they’ve all battled the I Can’t demon and you have to get past it.
Yeah, about that Sarah…
Sarah does finally make it through the first hole and gets her flag pole.
Leigh and Kellie are digging away at their second hole as Sarah goes back to the start with her flagpole.
Sharlene’s given up on winning and just wants to stop being stuck under the first log!
Leigh’s the first to get his sandbags. Kellie’s still digging away.
Think this challenge would have been more interesting if they had to get under the logs in both directions.
But Leigh’s carrying two of his 15kg sandbags back past his struggling Mum.
And a short while after Sharlene finally manages to dig and wiggle her way free, much to her relief. She knew the race was never going to be hers to win but she’s not going to give up on just getting it finished.
Kellie remembers struggling to lift her son before coming on the show. Today’s she’s easily lifting two 15kg sandbags and carrying them down the beach.
Sharlene’s up to her second log, finally. She gets back to digging her way under another one straight away, without complainining or stopping. Good for her!
Rebecca’s complaining about carrying a sandbag which she says weighs 30kg. Interesting that everyone else says they’re only 15kg…
Sharlene’s got herself stuck under a log again but this time Leigh’s doing the Good Son routine and helping her out of the hole this time. Sharlene thinks the change in Leigh is great though she’s a little worried Kellie might catch up to him.
She used to get distressed by the way Shannan would push Leigh but now she can see how beneficial it’s been to him.
3rd log. Leigh still gets there first but with much less of a lead.
Leigh says he doesn’t regret helping his Mum but it is a little hard to see Kellie so close behind him already.
Kellie’s determined to win for her family since The Moons never win anything.
Leigh gets under his final log and grabs the sled with the flag base to drag back up the beach. He’s doing it tough, he says, but he’s determined to just keep going.
Kellie’s started dragging her base back a little while afterwards but she seems to be slowly catching up to Leigh.
But after an ad break Kellie is struggling with her harness. She had it done up wrong and when she tried to adjust it it came undone. So she chucked it away and just pulls on the rope.
As we see all this going on there’s a shot of Rebecca in the background just standing around doing nothing? Strange.
As Leigh and Kellie get their flag poles set up they’re neck and neck. Leigh’s a bit worried at the way she’s catching up as he’s obviously underestimated how fit she’s become.
Kellie used to be a surf lifesaver so they’re all expecting her to do well in the flag retrieval leg. Kellie just seems to be really happy to be back in the water and enjoying herself. She hasn’t been in the water for many years, she says.
The show has some volunteer surf lifesavers patrolling for them as Leigh struggles his way through the waves about 5-10m from shore.
Kellie’s still behind but she’s using her old surf lifesaving skills to duck dive under the waves and keep the pressure on him.
Leigh’s finding it much harder to get back up the beach while holding onto the bucket that his flag is currently in. Kellie seems to be taking it in her stride…
Sunday! We find out who wins.
Also another weigh-in and elimination looms. Meg may lose her Immunity if she’s still gained weight.
We also find out how Emma and Nathaniel have been doing at home.
And I had to rewind the recording a few times to get a look at Nathaniel because I couldn’t drag my eyes away from how AMAZING Emma looks.
Nate’s looking pretty trim, too. But Emma? Wow, you guys. WOW.
