TBL 6×11: Lara knows how to take a load.
Previously on The Biggest Loser The Duncans had a bit of a cry over Sarah-Jayne being sent home.
Nobody else seemed too fussed, however.
Also The Westrens won immunity for their whole family by winning at Temptation. Shannan wasn’t quite as enthused as his family.
Tonight it’s time for another whole-family weigh-in and Sarah-Jayne might be back for it?
Also The Contest gets under way. Looks to be another strength based challenge, coupled with a knowledge thing. Get an answer wrong, your champ gets more weight on the bars.
As the episode starts everyone is filing into the Weigh-In Room.
The winning family this week gets an extra bonus – control over The Contest. Which could be anything, really.
First to weigh in this week will be The Duncans, last week’s top family.
Then Hayley says that while Sarah-Jayne is no longer there she’s still very much part of the competition.
And then the TV comes on and it’s Sarah-Jayne’s face! And not a pre-record, they’ve got a live link going. Neat.
SJ’s been walking three times a day and sticking to the diet and still hasn’t had a cigarette – four weeks today, SJ announces proudly.
SJ’s current weight will also be added to The Duncan’s family weigh-in.
SJ Start: 123.3kg
SJ Current: 112.9kg
SJ Loss: 10.4kg
Time for the rest of the family to weigh in.
Duncans Start: 537.5kg
Duncans Current: 480.6kg
Duncans Loss: 56.9kg
Duncans Percentage: 10.59%
Pretty good, under the half a ton mark by quite a bit.
Emma says that Jarrod just said they’ve lost a Tiffiny, since Tiff weighs about that!
SJ says she’s going to keep going on the outside, it’ll be like doing Biggest Loser by correspondence. Heh, funny stuff.
Next up is The Challenors. They lost Greg back in Week 1… and he’s got a video link set up as well. Sweet!
Greg says life on the outside has been hard without his family, but he’s going to the gym every day.
Nathaniel asks him if he’s mowed the lawn yet? Greg says the forest has been handled, yes!
So how’s Greg been doing?
Greg Start: 177.2kg
Greg Current: 167.9kg
Greg Loss: 9.3kg
Greg says he’s not too happy about only losing 2kg and Nathaniel says it’s fine, it’s still 2kg down!
The Challenors will need at least 73.6kg in total losses to topple The Duncans.
Challenors Start: 693.4kg
Challenors Current: 630.2kg
Challenors Loss: 63.2kg
Challenors Percentage: 9.11%
Not bad, but not enough to topple The Duncans. Greg needs to lift his game, methinks.
Greg’s very proud of his family, especially seeing Damien actually walking properly for the first time in ages.
Joe reiterates that they all love Greg. Awww.
Moons next. They need at least 53kg to topple The Duncans.
Moons Start: 499.9kg
Moons Current: 456.6kg
Moons Loss: 43.3kg
Moons Percentage: 8.66%
Still good, still not enough to topple The Duncans and not enough to go past the Challenors either.
Kellie’s a little disappointed, she was hoping for more.
Westrens need at least 49.9kg to overtake the Duncans. Could be a hard ask.
Westrens Start: 470.6kg
Westrens Current: 417kg
Westrens Loss: 53.6kg
Westrens Percentage: 11.39%
They’re all really stoked and even The Duncans are grinning and clapping. Leigh does a silly little dance and Lara says he’s a dork.
The Westrens now get the reward of the power at The Contest.
Previous weeks each family got to choose their own champions. This week The Westrens will get to choose everyone’s champion.
But they don’t get to know what the challenge will be this week so it’s a bit of a shot in the dark.
Rebecca will champion the Moon family, Joe will champion for Challenors and Jarrod will champion for Duncans. And Craig’s going to represent for the Westrens.
I think they could have made some assumption based on the fact Hayley didn’t say anyone was excluded from selection due to injury so it’s probably something knowledge-y rather than exercise-y.
Steve turns up to chat to his girls. He finds out they’re at the bottom of the weightloss board. So his sympathy and empathy is gone. And so now they’ve got to claw their way back up the ranks.
Commando’s brought out his extra shouty voice for today. And the training is back to basics, Commando style! Drag that rope across the mud, in the rain!
So he’s going to express his frustrations in the best way he knows possible – tighten those thumbscrews and give the girls hell.
“Shut your mouth! If you’ve got energy to expend on talking you’re not working hard enough!”
Lots of running around, squats and pushups and traipsing around with the heavy rope. Lots of really intense stuff today.
Steve says what we see today is the Real Commando. He’s tried to verbalise and comfort them and be the nice guy, but where’s it got him?
So no more sympathy or remorse from Steve until they prove they can get above the Yellow Line.
Shannan rocks up to his team already training, hooray!
And they’re all super happy for a change and Shannan asks why they’re all so happy and Shannan’s stoked when he finds out it’s about the family weigh-in.
Shannan tells us that when they’re happy, they’re at their best. But they have a bad habit of turning on each other.
Shannan says that Craig is usually the first one to quit during training but today is a put up or shut up day.
Today’s training is going to be 100, 200, 300 sprints, all the way up to a full kilometre. While three of them do the sprints one of them will be doing a weight/strength type challenge.
Lara’s determined to prove they can still do the training, even after doing Temptation. They’re still in it.
She has to hold a plank while her family runs 300m. She’s already getting some nice bum happening, woohoo!
Shannan tells us that one of the most disrespectful things you can do at Camp is to beg to go home but today was Craig’s chance to prove he’s turned it around and wants to stay.
Shannan is very impressed that the entire family is just shutting up and getting down to it today. Everyone’s encouraging each other and nobody’s making excuses. Shannan puts it down to them hitting the top of the leaderboard – they’re starting to believe in themselves, finally!
They’re all completely knackered afterwards. Craig’s flopping around on the floor for a bit but Shannan tells him to take it easy, he’ll be alright.
Shannan tells them all to look around at each other’s faces, how happy they all are. “BLUE FOR LIFE!” Hooray, it’s back!
Tonight’s Contest is a test of Knowledge.
Craig, Rebecca, Joe and Jarrod were selected as champions… but they’re going to need a little help. So they have to select someone to assist them. They’re not sure what the assistant might have to do but…
Emma’s helping for Duncans, Nathaniel’s helping for Challenors, Kellie’s helping for Moons and Lara’s helping for Westrens.
The champions will be answering a quiz and the assistants will be “taking the load.” I’d certainly like to… Nevermind!
The assistants will start with a 20kg weight bar on their shoulders. Hayley will ask a series of questions and if it’s answered correctly, the weight stays light. If it’s wrong, weight is added to the bar.
If the assistants drop the bar, they’re out. Last family standing, wins.
The trainers are also there to load the bars up and to encourage them.
Emma gets the bar up onto her shoulders and says it’s already pretty heavy!
Begin the quiz!
Which fruit contains the most calories?
Banana, Apple or Orange?
Answer: Banana!
One calorie is equal to how many kilojoules?
A: 4.2kj B: 5.3kj C: 6.4kj
Answer: None of them because it’s actually kilocalories.
But the answer they give is A, 4.2kj.
Craig and Joe got that wrong so Lara and Nathaniel get an extra 5kg on their bars. Lara’s not too fussed, so far.
How many calories are there in 250ml of full cream milk?
65, 112, 165.
Answer: 165 calories.
Red and Black both flunked that one so Nathaniel’s already on +10kg.
Low in fat also means low in calories?
True or False?
Answer: False.
Everyone seems to be struggling, Craig says, except Lara. Lara’s got her game face on!
Which nut has the most calories?
Peanut, Macadamia, Cashew.
Answer: Macadamia
Black was the only one to get it right.
We skip ahead a few at this point, just hearing the answer letters while people get weight stacked on the bars.
Kellie’s cursing Rebecca because she’s known all the answers so far!
How many teaspoons of sugar are in a 375ml can of cola?
10, 15, 20.
Answer: 10.
Everyone got it wrong. EVERYONE! Some of them even answered 20 teaspoons. How would you even dilute that much sugar in a can? Sheesh!
Everyone has 40kg except for White who has 45kg, Hayley says.
How many calories does a teaspoon of sugar add to your tea?
16, 24, 32.
Answer: 16.
Blue were the only ones to get that right and Kellie gives up at that point. Moons are still proud of her though.
Steve and Shannan are helping Michelle put the weights onto Nathaniel’s shoulders.
Per gram, which dip contains the most calories?
Tzatziki or Hummus
Answer: Hummus.
Craig has no idea what the first even was. “Suzuki? I thought Suzuki was some type of motorbike!”
Emma’s struggling a bit, Steve tells her she’s okay, she can stick with it!
How many calories are in one slice of plain white bread?
20, 45, 70.
Answer: 70 calories.
Oof. That’s a lot of calories!
Nathaniel’s technique is all wrong, Mish says. He’s bending lower and lower and letting the bar slide further down onto his back which is going to prove impossible to maintain, Michelle tells us.
And after an ad break Nathaniel caves in and lets the weight drop off his back. Leaving just Lara and Emma still in the game.
White’s got 60kg, Blue has 50kg. Lara’s still got her game face on. Emma’s starting to obviously struggle.
What is the recommended daily intake of calcium in both men and women over the age of 19?
250mg, 500mg or 1000mg
Answer: 1000mg.
Both get that wrong, too. Jarrod actually went for the lowest value.
How regularly should an adult have their cholesterol checked?
Every year, every five years or every 10 years.
Answer: Five years.
Both get that wrong, too.
Lara’s still not cracking!
Which fruit juice contains the most calories?
Apple, Orange or Tomato?
Answer: Apple
Blue get that wrong. Jarrod finally got one right!
How much fibre should you aim to consume each day?
5-10g, 10-15g, 25-35g
Answer: 25-35g
Craig gets another one wrong! Jarrod gets it right.
Lara finally cracks when they don’t load her up evenly and she starts to tilt a bit but she brings herself back from the edge.
They’re level pegging now so I’m expecting end of the episode any moment now…
Both Lara and Emma are in a lot of pain at this point.
Next question… TOMORROW NIGHT!
The Contest continues tomorrow night.
Steve goes berserk with his girls once again in training.
And the weekly challenge involves lots and lots of sandbags and the inevitable Letters from Home. Even though it’s only been three weeks at this point…
