TBL 6×05: Trains! Also, first competitive weigh-in of the year…
Previously on The Biggest Loser the contestants pretended to be trains. Choo-choooooooooo!
Epic train pulling race between the four teams on Friday night which we have yet to see the final result from.
Commando Steve was given a reprieve from training his team for the rest of the week thanks to Tiffiny’s Team Duncans victory in the 10k treadmill challenge.
Tonight… We find out who gets their train to the end of the line first, then later we find out how much the contestants have all lost in the space of their first week at Camp Biggest Loser.
The intro also teases an elimination tonight. Ordinarily that would be a Monday thing but with the show only airing four nights a week this year I guess we don’t have to wait 24 hours anymore? Awesome.
Back to the Challenge… and the first bit of footage we see is Sarah screaming like a fat women’s tennis player.
The Moons are catching up to the Duncans and… wait, Craig collapsed on Friday. This is still replay footage!
They get Craig back up into a sitting position. His pulse is fine, he’s getting his breath back, he’s just spent. He’ll be fine.
But Craig wants to continue! Shannan says this is a guy who’s never gotten up from anything in his life.
Craig says he had to get back up, they’re a team and this is his family.
And he gets hooked back up and pulls the train some more!
Tiffiny’s cheering her team on. Her team’s in pain and sweaty but they’re not going to give in.
Then we see the Whites approaching the finish line and neither Red nor Black are actually in frame at all so it’s clearly not close at all!
Black come in second.
Once the Duncans cross the line Michelle says Greg on the Challenors pretty much quit, figuring that was it. But Michelle’s not letting him quit. They’ve still got to finish!
Even big Damien’s soldiering on without a complaint.
Craig’s doing it really tough. Shannan says their priority is contestant safety. Craig’s never pushed himself so hard before in his life. Shannan tells us he’s not going to let Craig risk his long term health for the sake of a challenge.
But Lara and Leigh aren’t ready to give up. Both beg Shannan to let them continue to try and pull the train to the end.
Yeah, really. The two of them want to keep going!
And without a word Sharlene even gets back on the lines.
All three of them knuckle down and start pulling in sync with each other. Sharlene’s doing it really tough but Lara keeps pushing them all on.
Shannan is amazed. They’d struggled to get the train moving before with four of them and now they’ve got it moving to the finish line with just three.
“It was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.” – Lara
The Duncan family will now enjoy a 4kg weight advantage at the weigh-in for their victory in the Challenge.
And now the teams file in to the weigh-in room for their first post-exercise weigh-in. Hooray!
Also all the trainers will be present for the weigh-ins this year so they can see how their people are doing right away and also keep tabs on the other teams.
The two families with the lowest weightloss percentage will face elimination.
$100,000 goes to the Biggest Loser Individual. $100,000 goes to the Biggest Losing Family. And if the Biggest Loser Individual comes from the Biggest Losing Family they’ll pocket another $100,000.
The Challenors will weigh in first, with Damien being called to begin the proceedings.
Michelle’s not expecting a lot from him because he’s the biggest contestant ever and even getting out of a chair is difficult.
Damien:
Previous: 234.4kg
Current: 220.3kg
Loss: 14.1kg
“Far out brussel sprout!”
He’s happy, but crying. He says his youngest would be doing a jig right now. Michelle says his children will get the father they’ve wanted and he’ll be the dad he’s always wanted to be.
Joe’s emotional too, since Damien’s battled with his weight his whole life.
Damien’s still doing the shirtless thing so far, for the curious. You can expect that to change pretty soon.
Nathaniel:
Previous: 142kg
Current: 134.3kg
Loss: 7.7kg
Joe:
Previous: 139.8kg
Current: 133.7kg
Loss: 6.1kg
Not huge numbers so far. Have they changed the Biggest Loser “weeks” to actually be closer to a real week this season?
Greg:
Previous: 177.2kg
Current: 169.4kg
Loss: 7.8kg
Greg makes “:-o” face.
Greg says it’s been tough without his wife being around.
Challenor Total: 35.7kg
Percentage: 5.15%
Duncans next. They’re Tiffiny’s White Ninjas.
Emma:
Previous: 133.9kg
Current: 123.9kg
Loss: 10kg
That is a phenomenal result. She’s not one of the biggest ladies ever and she’s got one of the newbie trainers!
Sarah-Jayne:
Previous: 123.3kg
Current: 115kg
Loss: 8.3kg
SJ gives Tiffiny a proper martial arts-y bow.
Meg:
Previous: 137kg
Current: 126.1kg
Loss: 10.9kg
Crazy-good! She says she could never have done it without her family. And she thanks Tiffiny after talking about her family so she’s been adopted it seems!
Jarrod:
Previous: 143.3kg
Current: 129.2kg
Loss: 14.1kg
Now THAT is more like it! Jarrod’s astounded by that number. His goal was only 10kg for his first week and he’s smashed that. So he’s feeling a lot of joy right now.
Duncans Total: 43.3kg – 47.3kg after 4kg bonus from winning the challenge.
Percentage: 8.8%
The Moons are up next. They say it’s been hard without Steve there for the rest of the week and Steve says it’s been hard for him not being there for them.
The Moons needs at least 25.8kg between them to stay above the Yellow Line.
Kellie:
Previous: 127.7kg
Current: 123kg
Loss: 4.7kg
Prior to weighing in Kellie thought they’d do that easily. They should all be able to get 5kg each.
Yeah. Doubt it. Not without Commando Steve on the job!
Kellie says she doesn’t have a life at the moment. She grew up on the beach and she’s never taken her kids to the beach.
Hayley says if she’d done that in the real world she’d be happy with that. A loss is a loss!
Rebecca:
Previous: 115.2kg
Current: 109.6kg
Loss: 5.6kg
Just makes up Kellie’s shortfall. She’s happy but she knows she can do more.
Jodie:
Previous: 106.5kg
Current: 99kg
Loss: 7.5kg
Oooh. Definitely putting the pressure on Sarah now then!
Family total is 17.8kg. Sarah needs at least 8kg to put her family above The Challenors.
Sarah:
Previous: 150.5kg
Current: 147.8kg
Loss: 2.7kg
Raise your hand if you saw that coming. *raises hand*
Sarah’s gutted. She says she’s been eating healthy and sticking to a daily regimen. She doesn’t know what to say. She thinks she gave it 100% though. She’s going to use it as motivation though.
Hayley says it’s still nearly three kilos and it’s a long, hard road, and you can’t give up!
Moon total: 20.5kg
Percentage: 4.1%
So they will definitely be below the yellow line.
Commando says that Sarah’s a broken person right now and they’re going to have to pick up the pieces and glue them back together because her family needs her.
The Westrens are the last family to weigh in. They’ll need 24.9kg to get above The Challenors.
Leigh can’t see that happening between injuries and Lara being sick.
Leigh:
Previous: 130.1kg
Current: 121.2kg
Loss: 8.9kg
Not bad for the first one up. He’s shocked. Lara’s in tears, she’s so happy he’s done so well.
Lara:
Previous: 107.1kg
Current: 97.6kg
Loss: 9.5kg
WOW! She’s one of the tiniest in the competition and pulls out a number like that.
Sharlene’s next. They need another 5.9kg to be above The Challenors.
Sharlene’s the one who almost walked out and also has a knee injury.
Sharlene:
Previous: 113.3kg
Current: 106.7kg
Loss: 6.6kg
The relief is evident on her face at that result.
With a total result so far of 25kg they’re above the Yellow Line. The Challenors and The Moons will be facing elimination. Unless Craig gains weight, Hayley!
Sharlene says she’s proud of her son and her hopefully future daughter-in-law Lara, who’s been their rock. Without her they wouldn’t be there.
Shannan says the emotional baggage Sharlene dropped off earlier in the week must have weighed five or six kilos!
Craig:
Previous: 120.1kg
Current: 109.7kg
Loss: 10.4kg
Westrens Total: 35.4kg
Percentage: 7.52%
Puts them very easily into second place.
The Duncans are the Biggest Loser Family for the week with Jarrod also being the overall Biggest Loser.
So The Moons, the all girl team, will be in Elimination against the all boy team, The Challenors.
If a Moon goes home you know they’re all morons!
The families won’t be facing elimination AS families, however.
Just one person from each family will be entering the elimination room.
Who that’ll be is up to the individual familes.
Shannan says it’s a brutal decision.
And even more brutally, they have to make the decision right on the spot. Ouch!
Sarah totally has a massive childish pouty face on after the ad break.
Everyone feels sorry for the two families who have to make the choice. Fortunately the Westrens and Duncans can leave the room.
But Michelle and Steve also have to leave the room while the families make up their minds.
Sarah first says that she should go but the others say she needs it the most of them all.
I think Joe’s probably going to volunteer but then Nathaniel says the others only know Greg as “The Whinger” so they might not vote him out, seeing him as a weak link in the Red team.
He’ll still be the only dude, dudes!
Rebecca’s the sacrificial goat for the Moons.
Greg’s the Challenor’s nomination.
So they get a chance to say goodbye to their respective families because if they’re eliminated, that’ll be it. They’re gone!
Both Duncan and Westren families are in the Elimination Room, their full complements. Then the two victims file in to sit at the table, too.
Lara looked surprised, Hayley asks. Lara says she just think it’s really hard. They’re all like a family already.
Rebecca decided the others in her family needed to be there more than she does. She still needs to be there but…
Two years ago her Mum had a heart attack and needed a triple bypass. She’s an only child and that scared her and she doesn’t want to put her own kids through that. And that’s why she’s there.
Greg says it was a hard decision for his team. But he’s having a hard time with the exercise. He’s there for himself and his wife and he knows he needs it… but so does his brother Damien. And Nathaniel’s only 18 with all that weight.
Does he think he’s the weak link in the family? Yes, he does. And he knows it’ll be hard on the other people who have to vote.
As there are eight people voting there’s the potential for a tie. In that event the person with the lowest percentage will go home – in this elimination that will be Greg.
Sharlene says this person has had a difficult week being away from family and partner and so she’s voted out Greg. With a sadface. Aww.
Sarah-Jayne’s seen this person have an emotional rollercoaster this week and they’ve had some ups and downs with their family, but she’s also got faith in them doing fine at home. So she’s voted for Greg, too.
Plan is backfiring, Greg!
Craig says it was a hard decision. He knows what it’s like to raise a young family and he knows what it is like to lose a mother/mother-in-law. So unfortunately, sorry Greg!
Greg’s now on 3 votes.
Jarrod’s turn to vote. He doesn’t strike me as a total moron so he should be voting with his head.
And he confirms he’s looking at his toughest competitors and who he thinks he needs to beat so he’s also voted for Greg.
Greg looks shattered. As do some of the other contestants. Even the ones who didn’t get a chance to vote.
Greg says he doesn’t blame any of them.
Leigh is taking it hard because he’s looked at Greg like an uncle. So it’s really hard to see him go.
Rebecca says it’s bittersweet at the moment. While it’s sad to see Greg go she’s also relieved that she’ll get to stay.
Greg says it’s “The Biggest Loser” but he’s The Biggest Winner because he’s getting his life back.
Greg thinks he’s got the tools and the knowledge now to change his life. He’s not going back to the old ways and he really means it.
Wednesday night and Michelle’s blowing another gasket!
There’s some chat about there being two different stories going around about Greg’s selection and Michelle says she thinks they quit on their brother!
Also some tough love from Shannan, telling Leigh he’s not man enough to get married yet!
Also, Temptation. Sigh.
And another Contest. So I guess they’re sticking with that name, then? This one is weightlifting, it seems.
Also the teams will be weighing in as a family. I’m not entirely sure why. Can’t people do the sums for themselves to be horrified?
Also! Challenge! Another running up the stairs thing. And it looks like Craig will collapse. Again.
