TBL 6×04: You Choo-Choo-Choooose Me?
Previously on The Biggest Loser the trainers weighed in after their week of family-induced excess. With Commando Steve promising death to his team.
Certainly one way to get the weight off them!
There was also The Contest, with one team winning “power over the game” which has something to do with the trainers…
Tonight! We find out who wins, what it means for everyone and then we have drama! With Sharlene apparently walking out after a family feud, seemingly something to do with Lara.
Also, the first Challenge of the year kicks off. Each team will have to train a pull. I mean pull a train! But, spoilers, we won’t find out who wins tonight…
As the episode picks up we’re watching Jarrod and Jodie in the final stretch of The Contest. Jodie’s got 1km to go so she picks up the pace a bit.
As the end nears Jarrod also picks up the pace as Jodie starts to catch up to him. Jarrod starts cramping up again and doing it tough. Hopping along in the last few hundred metres…
But Jodie’s done. She doesn’t have the energy to finish. So it’s Jarrod in a race against himself now, till the inevitable end of the race and his victory.
Black team is proud of Jodie but still disappointed by losing. But Jodie congratulates Jarrod and they hug. Awww!
Jarrod tells us he’s never felt so proud of himself in his life.
Jarrod and his team’s power for winning? Denying one team access to their trainer for the rest of the week until the weigh-in. Nasty stuff. They’ve only just started! Not nice.
Everyone’s very worried they’ll be the one to lose their trainer though Damien’s fairly sure it’ll be them since they’re the biggest threat.
Blue’s been doing it tough in training… primarily due to bickering among themselves though!
After the teams return to Camp the trainers rock up for training… except White are off deciding what to do.
So Tiff walks in to no team and she’s really worried for a minute. But then Michelle and Shannan set her at ease and the rest of them finally explained what really happened.
When Sarah says that Jarrod won the 10km race Tiffiny jumps up out of her seat in excitement. Cute!
Then Damien, very slowly, explains the no-trainer thing. Tiffiny’s shocked, even though it’s unlikely she’d be missing out. Mish and Shannan are concerned. Steve just says it better not be him!
Mish asks Tiff who she thinks the team will pick because Tiff knows her team best and Tiff tells Michelle she’s likely the one who’ll get the rest of the week off.
Tiff’s team finally wanders back in and she gives them a big hug, saying they gave her a heart attack. And she congratulates Jarrod on the win, as does Leigh.
After a lot of overnight deliberation the decision is… ad break. Naturally!
After the ad break Jarrod announces that the team without a trainer will be… The Moon family, Black, Commando Steve. Oh dear!
“The Commando, you’re out of here!” Jarrod. Trying to be tough. He keeps repeating “Now!” Steve says he’ll deal with him later. Steve tells us he’s going to unleash hell when he returns.
Shannan says it’s a mighty brave decision to get The Commando off-side this early in the competition!
Tiffiny’s very proud of her team for winning. But she says the problem is they’ve upset the Commando. They’ve got the control for now but they’ve got to work really hard to prove that having a trainer is a huge advantage and to keep control of things.
Black’s pretty dejected in training. They’re in Tiff’s dojang, or something similar. It has treadmills and weights and punching bags but the room looks a bit bigger.
I don’t think they’re working hard enough, personally. Barely working up much of a sweat by the end.
Blue’s training session starts with a chat. Sharlene tells us she’s been doing it hard, not being at home.
Shannan says there’s no secrets between the team. Sharlene? Look him in the eye. No secrets!
Shannan then asks them if they’ve done every bit of homework he’s set for them since they’ve been there.
Craig says no.
Sharlene says there’s not four spinbikes to put together. That’s the first excuse. We don’t hear the rest of them as Shannan tells us about Sharlene being a full-time carer for her disabled daughter so she’s having trouble surrendering control to Shannan, not just of herself but also of her family.
She used to make lots of excuses at home but here at Camp those excuses won’t wash, Shannan tells us.
Shannan tells them it’ll never be perfect there or at home. There’ll always be things to get in the way, time, work, family, everything. You’ve got to work around it. There’s not four spin bikes? Well do something else!
Shannan’s a can do person, he says. Sharlene says he’s a talk down person.
Shannan says she’s being exposed, by the facade being exposed.
Then Sharlene says he doesn’t speak to his mother like that so don’t speak to her like that. She’s really offended, don’t yell at her, etc.
She gets up and gets in Shannan’s face to tell him to talk to her, don’t shout at her. Shannan continues to sit and try and talk it through, saying that there only being two spinbikes is just something they have to work through!
Shannan tells us Sharlene’s a self-confessed control freak so this was almost like claustrophobia, she just wanted to run away from it all.
Shannan manages to catch up to her, of course. He gets her to stop and asks her where she’s going to run away to? Running back to her old life?
“What’s gunna change? What’s going to change when you can’t pick Em up? When she’s not there to see her. What’s it going to be like when she’s lying in a box and Emma throws a rose on her coffin. And you’ve got this moment in your hand?”
Shannan wants her to realise it’s a team, they’re a family, they have a responsibility to the rest of the family.
“I want out.” – Sharlene. “I don’t want to change, Shannan. There, I’ve said it.”
Lara comes out of the gym they were in and starts yelling at Sharlene about the thousands of other people who would’ve liked her spot. And Lara tells us she knows it’s going to get harder from here.
Sharlene says this is about humanity? What? They’re treating them humanely!
Lara’s in tears and seriously pissed off, thinking of the thousands of people who wanted to be there. Lara tells us she loves the family but it feels like she’s the only one who really wants to be there.
Coming up, has Sharlene walked out forever? Answer? No. Because we already know she’s going to be doing the Challenge later.
Nice try, Mr Voiceover Man. You’re not fooling me!
After the ad break we’re off with The Challenors and Michelle sitting her people down for a chat, too.
Greg’s always buckling in training so his brothers and nephew are getting frustrated.
Joe says Greg’s always whinging and whining and not cooperating.
Greg says it’s been so long since he’s done any exercise and it’s harrrrrrrrrrd. Whine.
Greg knows he needs to stop whinging and he’s trying, really.
Michelle gets Greg into the boxing ring at first to try and get him fired up and Greg’s already wilting under the pressure less than halfway through.
Mish says the other three are well into it and working hard but Greg’s still vacillating. His heart’s not really in it.
Joe, sitting beside Greg for a to-camera thing, says either the link of the chain works with the rest of it or you cut the piece of chain out!
Back to Sharlene’s walk out. Craig follows her out for a discussion and, eventually, she comes back.
They meet Shannan, Lara and Leigh on the parade ground and Sharlene apologises to Lara and Lara apologises for shouting. Awww, hugs!
Shannan says that walking out and swearing was okay, they’re turning around now and going back as a team. Every mother who’s raised a disabled child is going to look at Sharlene like she’s a hero. Because she’s going to save their lives by not quitting and giving them hope.
Shannan says that other people will look at her and think that they’re just like her, making excuses and quitting, but now she’s made it back in and continuing it’ll be inspirational.
Sharlene tells us she made a promise to their daughter and friends that they’d see the old Sharlene, back to being happy instead of just existing.
Shannan says she’s showed courage in coming back and she’s got his respect for that.
“Are you ready to give it everything you’ve got?” “I’ll try.” Shannan repeats that a couple times till Sharlene finally says YES!
Shannan tells us he doesn’t judge people on their breakdowns, he judges them on how they come back afterwards. And he’s so proud Sharlene didn’t leave and is glad to have her back.
And after another ad break we’re off to the first challenge of the year. And it involves trains! Toot toot!
Shannan says we’ve seen some big challenges on Loser before, they’ve pulled planes and such, but this is going to be big.
They arrive at a train warehouse with four trains lined up on tracks, each labelled with their team names.
Every day half a million people ride on City Rail trains but today it’ll be the trains being taken for a ride!
Each family will be pulling not one but two train carriages! Two!
The load is a total of 88 tons. Michelle’s already said, “Good luck with that, dudes!”
The trainers are all gobsmacked and seem quite pleased they’re not having to do it!
But in true Biggest Loser style, Hayley says, they’ll have to stop halfway and load 4 suitcases, each weighing 15kg, onto their trains. They have to run 200m to pick up the suitcases, as they’re actually at the finish line for some reason. Weird.
Then they continue pulling the trains to the end.
First family across the line gets a 4kg weight advantage at the weigh-in!
And the team of four girls don’t even have their trainer to urge them on.
And Michelle reckons her team has it in the bag. It’s about strength and brute force and weight so her big lads ought to be able to get it done, right?
But before it begins, here’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer Tony Ead?
“It takes hundreds of people working around the clock to keep these trains running on time.” If there’s one thing Sydneysiders know about City Rail it’s that the trains NEVER run on time. So, good job mate!
Lots of shouting and yelling and grunting early on but nobody can even get their train moving at first. And in fact the four-girl team of The Moons are the first to get their train moving!
Michelle is boggling at the four girls doing so much better than her big boys.
And now Tiff’s Duncans have also got their train moving. “I AM A WARRIOR!”
They actually manage to overtake The Moons as they pick up momentum. Nice work, White!
The Blue Westrens are also managing to pull the train along, too. And finally Red’s train is moving, too! And they’re slowly making up some of the distance as they manage to keep their train rolling along.
But The Duncans make it to the halfway mark first. Jarrod sets off to get the suitcases and Tiff has to sprint to catch up to him!
The Moons get to the halfway mark in second place and Jodie runs off to get their first suitcase. Though The Challenors are not far behind with Nathaniel sprinting off for their first case.
Westrens are pulling up the rear and Leigh runs off to get the suitcase first. He runs very weirdly, however.
Shannan says Leigh’s been the mouse who roared today and Lara’s impressed by the man she saw again today for the first time in ages.
Kellie’s struggling with getting her suitcase up and into the train. Says it feels like it weighs a ton. Wait till you have to drag it the rest of the way in the train!
Shannan’s getting Sharlene pumped up before her turn to run. Shannan gets her to promise she’ll run the whole way and Sharlene says she will and Shannan’s stoked that she’s managing to shut her mouth and get it done.
The Duncans are still in the lead. Sarah-Jayne’s in full-bogan mode, yelling at the last runner of suitcases for their team, egging her on.
Leigh has to run for the final suitcase, I guess Craig’s not allowed to run a suitcase but he’s allowed to pull a train? Erm, okay!
Red, meanwhile, has pushed up into second place!
The Duncans are back to pulling their train towards the finish line and the Challenors are pulling alongside them. The Challenors are still about a carriage-length behind but they do seem to be catching up.
The Moons are trying really hard to catch back up and Sarah’s got the crazyface going again, screaming her guts out to her family to get moving!
The Westrens are struggling in fourth place but still persevering.
Tiffiny’s encouraging her team like a little blonde cheerleader but her team really appreciates her encouragement.
Just as The Moons get passed by The Challenors… Greg loses it and falls over again. He wants to quit and get out of it but Michelle keeps him in the harness and tells him not to quit, he can do it!
Meanwhile Craig on the Westrens is really doing it tough. Shannan’s got sweat pouring off him, even more than Craig.
Finally Craig just collapses out of complete exhaustion. Falls flat on his face on the concrete. The medics come over to check on him and Sharlene’s very worried about him. He doesn’t seem very responsive at this point.
Meep!
Sunday night at 6.30pm it’s a “bigger and better” Biggest Loser. We still have to find out who wins and then they all have to weigh in to find the Biggest Loser of the week.
Then, in another Elimination Twist, only one person from each family will enter the Elimination Room. Or something like that. Presumably the two families who fall below the line will both be there? Or will they get to offer up a sacrificial lamb?
Oh, right, find out on Sunday!
