TBL 5×64: Phil and Joe emerge from the Wilderness!

Previously on The Biggest Loser… dream outfits were revealed and Wayne looked alright in his footy gear and Shannon looked alright in his upcoming wedding gear and Lisa looked great in her wedding dress and Daina looked fucking epic in her bikini!

Tonight Phil and Joe will be returning to Camp Biggest Loser at last, but who’ll be the one to make it back into the competition?
Also the remaining contestants will be going white water rafting, I assume before Phil and Joe return but who knows!

Beep beep, I’m a jeep!
Uhh, I mean, in the Northern Territory Steve is driving his jeep towards Phil and Joe while two horseback dudes trot alongside, each leading a second horse with them.

Yes, they’re going to help herd cattle with a couple of stockmen from Mount Bundy Station.
It won’t be easy but that’s the way Steve likes it!

Phil and Joe get tossed riding helmets… both the stockmen are just wearing their akubras. Guess they’re used to the danger!
Phil’s down some horse riding before, he loves horses but usually bets on them rather than riding them. But he’s looking forward to it.
Joe used to do rodeo riding before he put the weight on. He did ground work on some steers but couldn’t ride a horse due to his weight. So now he’s lost it he’s looking forward to trying it again.

First the boys have to find the cattle in the scrub then herd it back into the gates.
Steve’s giving them a hand in his jeep, riding over saplings and all.

Joe’s excited to be doing it, even though a little scared at the thought of his horse going for a run through the trees.
Phil’s telling us about how the cows will occasionally seem to be moving along okay but then a bull will get an eye on you and come for you. But in the time he’s been up in the NT he’s gotten used to controlling the fear and getting on top of it.

Phil and Joe manage to do pretty well in the cattle herding and eventually all the cows are back into the yard. Hooray!

Steve tells them job well done. They’ve risen to every challenge and have transformed themselves. But there’s only one spot back at Camp Biggest Loser. But either one of them could win the title and he wants to see one of them in the Final Four!

Steve then informs them it’s time to go home and make him proud!
A tiny little plane comes down and lands on the outback runway. Phil’s thinking he surely wouldn’t have to ride that back. But yes!

Steve gives them both a manly handshake sendoff and they’re off and into the plane. And Joe’s grinning like mad as they finally take off and really enjoying the scenery as they fly over.
He’s looking forward to getting home and showing everyone the man he’s become. Before coming on the show he was pretty negative and going nowhere in life. Now he’s full of beans and ready for life!

Shannan and Michelle plod up to Camp Biggest Loser again. Michelle’s leg is still strapped up though she’s not really limping on it anymore.
They’ve got a special training session lined up for the contestants today. Last week, so it’s got to be something spectacular, right?
Michelle leaves while saying that it’s all very “Secret Squirrel”. Hee!

Expect the unexpected, of course. Thanks, Wayne.

It’s the whitewater course from the Sydney Olympics. Penrith Whitewater Rafting Centre.

Poor Lisa is going to miss out on this, too. She can’t go in the water with her boot on and with her boot off, it’s too dangerous. At this late a stage it isn’t worth the risk. Aww!

The others are all looking forward to it though.

So Wayne, Shannon, Shannan and… a cameraman? Are in one raft. Daina, Michelle, a camerawoman and another lady crew are in the other boat.

As they get to the bottom of their practice run Michelle starts having a dig at the boys, asking if that was some screaming she could hear and Shannan says no, it was manly roaring!
So it’s time for a head to head race, of course!

The men take an early lead and Wayne’s quite confident they’ll win, they’re bigger, faster, stronger and so on.

Shortly thereafter the boys get stuck on some rocks and the girls blitz past them and grab the win!

But that was only part one of the session!
You were working as part of a team, before. But at this stage of the game it’s about your individual performances… So now they’re in smaller inflatable kayaks. They also have an instructor in the back to give them some guidance and a little paddling help.

Shannon takes an early lead with Wayne and Daina coming down behind them.
But then Shannon and his guide get spun in a circle and into a wall and his guide is calling out for Shannon to lean, lean, lean but it didn’t work, they fall in!

Wayne goes past Shannon only to see Daina catch up and go past him, too. wayne’s having none of that… except for how Daina totally ends up beating him. Ha!

After they’re done with their training session they’re walking back towards the car park and on the way back they see Hayley standing in a field with a bunch of white flags placed in the ground.
Hayley says Phil and Joe have been training in the desert, rah rah rah. She’s sure you’re all curious to see how they’ve done?

Well they’re on their way… She glances upwards and points into the sky… “Right now!”

As Hayley points upwards they all look up and can see two tiny specks coming out of the plane far above them.
Joe’s having an absolute ball on the way down. Says the freefall part was probably the best, even though it’s over so quick!

The boys finally land quite close to their target. They were doing tandem jumps but they’ve still done well!

Joe’s a little sad to see Rick not there but he’s amazed at seeing how well the others have done, particularly Shannon.
Shannon says Joe looks like half the man he was, looking fit and strong and healthy and so on.

Both Phil and Joe look amazing, Michelle says, so it’s hard to work out who will make it back into the competition.

Wayne’s talking a bunch of shit about not rolling over and letting one of the other boys back into the game and take his spot.
Erm, yeah, you took someone else’s place via the marathon. Get over yourself!

Phil and Joe talk a bit about their training and their weights at present. Joe asks Shannon what he’s down to now and he’s amazed at how well he’s done and is more sure than ever that Shannon will make it to his goal weight.
They also ask Lisa what her goal was and it was to get into her wedding dress which she did yesterday, hee!

Michelle takes Joe and Phil off to do their dream outfits, too. Cool, was concerned we’d miss out on their’s!

Michelle wants to show them both where they’ve come from. Audition/intro tapes time!
Phil was massive. Chowing down on platefuls of KFC, chugging down beers and so on.
Phil had lost weight before, what’s to stop him gaining weight before? Phil says his time and experiences in NT with Commando are ensuring it won’t happen again, though it’ll be tough.

Joe… God. I’d forgotten how massive he was before. It’s quite horrible and Joe’s struggling to hold back the tears while watching.
Joe says life’s too fun to keep going on like that. That’s what he’s learned in the last few months. Then Michelle gives them both a big hug. Awww!

Phil’s dream outfit is a wetsuit. He used to love waterskiing and bodyboarding but he’d not been able to get into a wetsuit in recent years. But he reckons he’ll fit into his dream wetsuit now. So he goes off to the getting dressed room and puts it on.

Joe’s dream outfit is some rodeo riding outfit. He’s always loved the rodeo! Michelle says she’s walked past that every day and hoped to get Joe into it again at some point.
He’d not done rodeo riding in a while because at 180kg a horse just wouldn’t carry him.
He used to just sit on the bench watching mates play footy or go riding. Wasn’t much good, he’d much rather be competing in it.
Joe thinks the outfit in the dream cabinet might be a bit too big for him now. Back at the start he wasn’t sure he’d ever manage to get into it. It was a “Maybe One Day” thing…

Phil and Joe walk out in their outfits, much to the appreciation of the other contestants and the trainers. Phil’s fits him a little less well. Joe’s actually is a little too large for him. It’s a bit baggy.

Joe gets to see himself in the mirror first. He’s stunned at how skinny he is now and how young he looks. He never thought he’d look in the mirror and see that.

Phil’s turn next, of course. He didn’t think he’d ever get into the wetsuit at the start. He didn’t think he’d last long enough for that to happen.
Phil’s amazed when he sees himself in the mirror. Not quite stunned into speechlessness, unfortunately!
But he’s looking forward to getting home and getting his kids into little wetsuits and taking them bodyboarding and jetskiing one day, perhaps.

But their day isn’t over. Training time!

Michelle takes Phil and Joe to see how they’ve progressed and get them back into being ready to take on the others.
The other four contestants are very strong and won’t just roll over for whoever comes back in.

It’s been a long, long time since they’ve used any real training equipment. But they’re quickly back into the swing of things.
Joe says the training with The Commando has made him a lot stronger and he feels prepared for the challenge.

Phil says Michelle’s determined to turn the heat up on them after their intensive training with Steve.
And Michelle’s impressed by how hard they’re training. Saying they’re both going hard and not giving up, no matter what!

Big Gym for the remaining Black Shirt contestants. He wants to give them a challenge today – establish some personal bests on the various equipment.
Shannon had a PB of 2mins 40secs for 500m of rowing. 2mins 3secs he manages today. Nicely done!

“The Lady With The Boot” is seeing how fast she can do 1km on the spinbike. Would normally take her about a minute and a half, apparently. 1min 13secs today. Shannan is absolutely amazed. Shannan tells us that Lisa’s boot has made her even more committed and determined.

Best anyone has done is 45secs at 20km/hr on the treadmill so Wayne’s challenge is to run for an entire minute. Which is about 40secs more than he’d ever done before. With 10 seconds to go Shannan isn’t sure Wayne will make it, but Wayne keeps pounding out the steps and manages to finish strong.

Daina is then set a challenge to run 20km/hr for 40 seconds, which would give her the fastest PB for anyone Shannan’s trained, apparently.
Daina’s never done anything like that before but she’s pumping her arms and her legs are flying and she’s breathing harder than she’s ever breathed before but she manages to keep on going. She’s set the record for the fastest girl now and she’s really proud of herself!

Shannan tells them all to be thinking of putting in exceptional efforts because just trusting to luck won’t get them there. One week to go, game on!

Tomorrow night the contestants will be the instructors for some other people in need of training. They’ll do the Bio Age thing again, some more cooking with Janella… and the special guest will be Bob from last season! Everyone loves Bob!
