TBL 5×62: The “Super” Challenge.

Previously on The Biggest Loser… David gained weight and got sent home at Elimination. Then gave the Nothing bracelet to Daina!

Tonight the contestants face “the most daunting challenge ever conceived on The Biggest Loser”. Talk it up, Hayley!

They’re all already in the cars once the real show starts. And they’re heading up into the mountains. Preeeetty!
Shannon’s just hoping they’re not jumping off anything.

Hayley welcomes them to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Tourists flock there to see all the pretty things but of course, they’re not there for sightseeing.
The show has taken them out of their comfort zones time and time again and made them confront their fears – and today they’ll be tested like never before.

It’s Super Challenge time! It’ll be in two parts. And it’ll be a real test of their courage and skill and so on.
And a Super Challenge needs a super reward. So the winner will be able to move ONE bracelet from one person to another. They could take the Double bracelet off Lisa and give it to someone else, or themselves, or they could take the Nothing off Daina and give it to someone.

But hey, the Super Challenge won’t be easy.
Take a look behind her. It’s the “Scenic World Skyway”. The cable car is suspended 1,000 feet above the ground. Eep!
They’ll be randomly paired up and compete as two teams. All they have to do is climb down a ladder and collect a flag.
The ladders are suspended underneath the cable car, naturally.

One person from each team will climb down the ladder to collect the flag while the other person supports them.
Only the winning pair get to move on to the next stage. And the winning pair today will also receive 5 nights for two at some beautiful retreat in the Hunter Valley. And $5,000 cash!

They have to pick a stone out of a bag to sort out the pairings. Lisa has a blue stone then Daina has a red stone and then Shannon has a blue stone so that pairs Daina and Wayne.

Shannon is amused. He asks if Lisa’s even allowed to do the challenge with her boot and of course she can’t. So Shannon’s going to be the one dangling from the ladder!
And Daina will be the dangler for her team.

Shannon says nobody in their right mind comes up to the Blue Mountains and sees a cable car and decides to throw a ladder off the side and climb down it. He’s petrified but it looks like he’ll be doing it.

Lisa says beforehand she thought she could’ve done it but now that she’s out there she knows she would’ve been feeling a bit sick by now. She says she’s glad it’s not her to Shannon and Shannon laughs and says oh yeah, thanks!!

They eventually get all rigged up and look over the edge at the ladder and Lisa says it’s a long way down and Shannon says yeah, he’s petrified! Lisa says it’s not so far down to the flag. But she’s confident he can do it, he’s done a lot of impressive things. They have many hugs beforehand.
Interestingly it’s the two returnees versus the two Day One people.

Daina takes an early lead but Shannon’s gradually making progress down the ladder, too.

Wayne keeps calling out “one foot at a time, one foot at a time, one foot at a time”… Kinda get the impression she wants to tell Wayne to shut the fuck up and let her do it. Maybe that’s just me?

Daina beats Shannon to getting down to the flag and after some faffing around gets it unhooked and hooked onto her body so she can begin climbing.
Shannon’s having even more difficulties getting his flag unclipped. He’s going to find it hard to beat Daina back up the ladder at this rate!

Daina’s almost all the way back up to the cable car when Shannon finally gets his flag unclipped.
Daina finally gets herself back inside the cable car and they’ve done it first. Daina says she didn’t even think all the way down she just did it.
Wayne keeps saying “GOOD GIRL!” like she’s a puppy.

Meanwhile Shannon and Lisa are coordinating their efforts. Lisa’s helping yank him up the ladder as he climbs back up.
Lisa gives him a huge hug once he makes it back onto the cable car. They don’t really care that they didn’t win, they’re just proud that they managed to do it at all. As they should be, epic effort!
Lisa says he’s frigging awesome and a true inspiration. And she tells us that seeing the self belief come back into him was worth it.

After that it’s Wayne and Daina against each other. There’s 8 covered plates. When they arrived on the show they had no idea about calorie counts and so on… and now they’re about to face the final test!
The idea is to pick the dish with the smallest number of calories. Lisa thinks Daina will win this because Daina’s knowledge has always been excellent.

They pick a stone again. Well, Daina picks one. She didn’t get one with an X on it so Wayne gets to go first.

Item 1: Tin of baked beans.
2: large burger bun
3: potato chips
4: mars bar
5: glass of milk
6: hot chips
7: can of coke
8: slice of cheese

Wayne goes the slice of cheese first. Think that might be a mistake!
Daina goes the baked beans.
112 calories in the beans.
And the cheese has 84 calories!

Wayne’s won the first round. It’s best of three, apparently.

Second round Daina goes for the potato chips. Wayne thinks that’s a big mistake. We’ll see.
Wayne goes for the glass of milk. 250ml glass of full cream milk. 158 calories.
Daina’s 50g potato chips? They’re worth an ad break…

Daina’s chips are worth… 255 calories. Damn!

So Wayne’s the winner. Hooray. Etc.

Daina’s taking it pretty well though.
Wayne’s won a 5 night stay at the Golden Door health retreat. Indulge in the gourmet cuisine (uhh what?) and spa treatments and so on.

But Wayne’s victory also lets him make a huge impact on the game. He can move one bracelet to a new owner.
GEE. I WONDER WHICH ONE HE’LL PICK. Lisa’s thinking much the same thing and is thinking she should just take the bracelet off right now.

Wayne’s decision… he’s leaving the Double Bracelet with Lisa. Erm, okay.
He’s decided to take the Nothing bracelet back off Daina and give it back to Shannon. Lisa feels sorry for him but Shannon doesn’t particularly care. He’s had it since it came into the game, essentially. So it’s not really changing anything for him.

Hayley reminds them that Phil and Joe are coming back Real Soon Now. But for the moment it’s time to leave the mountains and head back to Camp.

Really? That’s all there was to the “Super Challenge?” Weak!

Tomorrow night there’s going to be some emotional training going on… and dream outfits? Daina at least is getting into her dream outfit. Daina’s dream outfit was a bikini, if I recall correctly.

…. giggity.
