TBL 5×55: The All-Girl Elimination!
Previously on The Biggest Loser… Phoebe and Lisa fell below the Yellow Line. Pretty much the worst case scenario if you ever want to see a girl win the competition.
Or I suppose the worst case for Phoebe and Lisa. Or people who like them.
Tonight Shannon faces a hard decision at Elimination. Does he vote for Lisa, who’s like his Mum in the House or does he vote for Phoebe, his best friend in the house?
And in the Top End Steve is helping Phil and Joe hold a log above their heads.
Um, kay.
Walking out of the Weigh-In room David’s feeling very good about himself losing 8.2kg. He tells the others he’d talked to Michelle about it and they’d looked into it and she’d said he might have a good loss this week but don’t get his hopes up.
David puts it down to maybe having a day free of carbs during the week, he thinks that kickstarted his loss. Shannon tells us David plays his cards close to his chest.
Lisa says it feels like its time to pack her bags, because she’s 4.5kg away from her initial goal… but now she has to decide on who she gives the Double bracelet to, if she goes.
Pretty safe bet she’ll give it to Phoebe or Shannon since they’ve had the goal of keeping it amongst “The Leftovers” as “The Firm” alliance had wanted to keep it to themselves for the whole game and now they’re never getting it back!
Phoebe has a chat with David to plead her case, first. She says she wants to stay. She works hard and she wants to be there. And Lisa’s a bigger threat than her. Phoebe’s never been a threat for the top position.
David says to her that he’s also mindful that she’s a dark horse. He’s not going to fall for that! She made it to the Final Four, after all.
Lisa has a chat with Shannon. She says she’ll respect his decision, regardless of which way he votes. Lisa tells us she knows he’ll probably vote for her on account of her being the bigger threat and Shannon being closer to Phoebe.
Lisa’s pitch is that she really needs to stay there and Phoebe has a much better chance of getting back into the game via the 42km Marathon.
Shannon says he needs some time to really think about how to vote.
But first he has a chat with Phoebe. Phoebe’s pitch is the same as what she put to David. She’s less of a threat, Lisa has the bracelet and so on.
Shannon says it’s going to suck either way.
Everyone files into the Elimination room. Phoebe has a sparkly top on! Phoebe has her typical Mum-blouse on.
David looks a little like Freddy Krueger. Nice shirt!
Hayley says they’re not just voting to send someone home today, they’re also breaking one of the strongest bonds in the House. They came on the show as strangers but have since formed a great friendship.
Shannon’s also good friends with them both, so will he choose based on friendship or loyalty?
Hayley suggests the decision might be a little easier for him. David shakes his head. Quite unconvincingly, I might add.
Hayley says that as the final member of The Firm he’s always seen the girls as competitors…
Phoebe’s lost 38kg but is still 13kg shy of her goal weight, which might come into play, Hayley suggests.
Lisa’s been very competitive and Shannon and David will have to fight hard to beat her.
And Lisa is also wearing the double bracelet, so her fellow contestants may want to send her home to get their hands on the bracelet.
Lisa tells Hayley she’s not feeling safe at all. Bracelet, she’s a threat, Phoebe and Shannon are great friends, etc.
Lisa says the hardest thing is that either way her and Phoebe will have to say goodbye. Phoebe’s been like a daughter to Lisa. Awww!
Lisa thinks it’ll take a miracle to save her tonight.
Phoebe’s prepared for maybe going home tonight. She’s feeling vulnerable up that end of the table. And she says the worst bit is facing Elimination with Lisa. Lisa’s been her saviour, she’s helped her keep her sanity and prevented her from just packing it all in when things got tough. She’s been like a Mum to her!
David gets to vote first, presumably because he’ll’ve voted for Lisa since it’s pretty much expected he’ll go that way…
David starts out by saying they’re two of the most inspirational and hard working he’s had the pleasure of knowing. Whoever leaves today should be very proud of themself.
His vote is purely strategic. He’s looked at weight loss to date and weight loss to go.
And as a bean counter he says it’s all about the runs on the board so he’s had to vote for Lisa!
Not at all surprising. Nobody seems surprised.
Ahhh, but Shannon. Shannon’s turn to vote. If he votes for Lisa she’ll be going home tonight. But if he’s voted for Phoebe it’ll be a hung vote and the person with the lowest percentage will be sent home – and that’s Phoebe.
Shannon says Lisa and Phoebe have been his rocks in the competition. They’ve both supported and helped him and it’ll be a shame to see either go but he has to write someone’s name down…
And of course we won’t see until after another ad break!
After the ads… Shannon thinks they’re both equal threats and so the only thing he could think of to split them was who he thinks could come back and possibly win their place back and because of that, he’s voted for PHOEBE?!
Wow, I did not see that coming AT ALL. I thought he would surely send Lisa packing over sending his best friend home.
Phoebe seems sad but not angry at Shannon.
Lisa is absolutely bawling. Phoebe gives her a big hug and says it’s all good!
Phoebe’s feeling prepared, she says. She thinks the hardest thing will be saying goodbye. Awww!
Shannon’s in tears now too.
Phoebe says it’s so hard to say goodbye due to the calibre of people around her. She’s learned more from them than she has from anyone else in her life.
Phoebe thinks she can come back and win the 42km marathon. It’ll take guts and determination but it’s about time she found some of that in herself.
Phoebe asks Shannon what he’s crying for. He didn’t want to sit there and cry but he can’t help that.
Shannon says Phoebe has changed dramatically from when she arrived. She was a 19 year old who arrived hiding behind Jenni, using her as her shield. Now she’s dancing around and shaking her “thing” at the gym and she sees the beauty in herself now. No matter how many times they’ve told her it doesn’t mean much until she sees it for herself.
Phoebe says her biggest lesson learned was that you have to pick yourself back up again after failing at things. You’ve got to turn things around.
Phoebe is looking at her elimination the same way. She could be all sooky about it but she’s thinking about the 42km and coming back for that and maybe winning that and meantime she gets to go home and see her family and rip it up and so on.
She arrived at 116kg and is leaving 38kg lighter. How’s that feel? “I don’t feel like a fatty boombah anymore!”
She’s confident she’ll get to her goal weight now. If she doesn’t win the marathon she’ll be at finale and be at her goal weight.
They’ll see her again at the marathon but for now it’s time to say your goodbyes!
She gives a big hug and a “SEEYA!” to Shannon then a big hug for David and a big long hug for Lisa. As they part Phoebe says, “I’ll be back before you know it!”
David, Shannon and Lisa are now the last three contestants at Camp Biggest Loser.
It may seem an enviable position now but the numbers are going to be topped up again quite soon.
Since Day One they’ve been counting down to the main event of the competition – the 42km Biggest Loser Marathon. Soon they’ll be reunited with the contestants they’ve previously eliminated. And they’ll all be looking to get back into the game!
The three remaining contestants head out to the lounge after Elimination. Lisa says she’s blown away to still be there. Lisa thanks Shannon, who says it wasn’t the easiest decision in the world. He couldn’t write Lisa’s name down. It would have been bad if Phoebe had been upset, but she was okay, which made it easier.
Lisa wonders if it’ll be the next couple of days for the marathon then? Must be soon, right?
They’re all really looking forward to see how well everyone’s done on the outside, if they’ve maintained their losing ways and so on.
So Shannon suggests it’s time for some sleep times so they can prepare for the hard training to come!
Meanwhile in the Northern Territory… SKIPPY! What’s that skip? The Commando’s chopped down a tree? And he’s carrying it down the track to visit Phil and Joe.
Joe reckons Steve has a screw loose. Steve’s doing it pretty tough but he’s not bitching and moaning.
Steve then drops a bombshell – Phil and Joe also have the 42km marathon coming up in a couple of days!
They’re doing it, too? Coooool!
Steve wants to make sure the boys have the mental strength to do it. He needs to make sure the pain of running that far won’t get to them mentally.
They’re going to flip the log, end over end, from the gate to the A-Frame down the road, about 100 metres. The longer it takes, the more punishment there’ll be.
Punishment?
Joe doesn’t see the point at the start. It’s a bit different for a training session but it’s just moving the tree along.
There’s always a method to the madness though. And Phil says there’s always a technique to whatever Steve wants them to do.
Then it’s time for a break in the exercise. Sort of.
Steve wants to play with their heads, one more time!
He wants them to press the log up above their heads. The three of them, together. It’s about 80kg, Steve says. Takes a lot of concentration and strength.
Phil’s struggling a lot and they drop it on the first lift. But then they do better on subsequent lifts.
And then it’s back to shifting the log down the track. Until they finally get past the A-Frame Steve wanted them to get to.
Phil says it’s a hard task but so is the 42km.
Steve says that they’ve finished the training and are ready for the marathon. But one thing left to ask them.
He asks Joe what’s his mental game? Joe says he’ll be true to himself and he’ll finish it one way or another.
Phil? He’s going to use the advice Hazem El-Masri gave him for the 21km. Sigh.
Break it down into sections and achieve each section on its own.
Steve says when they’re physically stuffed and can’t give anymore they need to dig deep. Your body will do what your mind tells it to do. Remember that when you’re running.
Back at Camp Biggest Loser it’s time for Michelle and Shannan to arrive. Shannan’s voice is still a bit scratchy!
As they walk in they know one of them would have their heart broken. And it’s Shannan who is shattered to see Phoebe gone.
Then they have the requisite chat about how the weigh-in and elimination went down.
Shannon says the reason he voted for Phoebe was ultimately that if Lisa was sent home, she’d be done. She can’t run so she’d have no chance to get back in.
Phoebe at least has a chance at coming back and running and maybe get back in via the marathon.
David says it wouldn’t be much longer before they’d be seeing old friends. And Michelle says that’s right and they’ve organised some old friends for them in the big gym!
But it’s probably not quite what they’re expecting…
It’s the huge posters of all the people who’re coming back. David says he knows they won’t look like that when they come back, but it’s still intimidating.
They’ve all had to give up time with their family and friends and vote out people and so on, so they’ve got the strength there but the eliminated contestants have been at home with their family and friends for support.
Michelle says her and Shannan know that when the eliminated contestants come back, they come back with ATTITUDE.
So it’s time to train and train hard!
Cardio gym machines first. They combine weights work with high intensity cardio. And the contestants are working up a sweat within minutes.
David thinks Wayne will be his biggest threat. Wayne’s got nothing David hasn’t got, but he’s extremely competitive.
Shannon’s biggest threat? Rick. Even more than Wayne. Wayne’s more likely to win the 42km, sure, but he’d be more worried about Rick coming back in. Rick’s extremely competitive, extremely strong and has beaten him in everything he’s been up against him in.
Today’s a special day for Lisa. It’s her daughter Tegan’s 13th birthday! Shannan reminds her of it to make her cry cause he’s a bully!
Lisa knows that she’s where Tegan would want her at the moment, getting healthy and so on.
Lisa’s using the challenge of the returning contestants to spur her on.
Time to move on to the spinbikes. They want the three of them to imagine being in the front of a pelleton with eleven competitors closing in behind them.
Shannon says it’s great to have Shannan barking out behind them, makes it all seem more real.
They’re all exhausted at the end of the training session.
But the session isn’t quite over. The trainers take them out to the paradeground…
After another interminably long ad break… There’s a chinup bar set up on the parade ground.
The trainers think they’re ready for the returning contestants but they’re throwing one more challenge their way.
The challenge, as a team, is to do 100 chinups. Shannon’s still 135kg, so Lisa and David will have to help him out a bit.
Shannan says chinups are the enemy of the overweight person. You’re carrying so much extra weight with so little muscle, it’s nearly impossible.
Shannon’s going to try it first, too. Crazy!
He’s no idea how well he’ll go but he’s going to try the best he can.
David’s helping lift him as best he can and Shannon’s pulling himself up as best he can and they manage to pull out 5 in the end. And it hurts. He’s not sure how many more he can do.
Lisa says when they’re set a task she always gets into the mindset of wanting to get it done. So she’s knocking out as many as she could.
Then David gets up on Shannon’s shoulders to knock out 10 more.
Then Lisa gets up for another set, seven this time.
Shannon’s intimidated by the chinup bar, Shannan says, but there’s no way Shannon was going to be seen as the weak link.
Lisa takes the final stint as they manage to complete their 100 assigned chinups.
Then Lisa says 5 more! Lisa wants to do 5 more to show Shannan and Michelle that they’re capable of so much more now.
Michelle says the eliminated contestants are in for a fight, obviously. They better be watching and gearing up!
Michelle and Shannan leave the chinup bar there for them, just in case they want to do some more chinups in their normal sessions…
Now a 2 months on catch up with Phoebe!
She’s looking pretty good. Not sure it’s really 2 months on.
She was a size 22 before coming on the show and now is a size 12-14. And she’s making up for lost time with her Mum… by going shopping, of course!
Phoebe’s audition tape shows how far she’s come. It’s quite impressive!
Tomorrow night… THEY’RE BACK.
The eliminated contestants are back… and later in the week, they do their 42km marathon for their chance to get back into the game.
