TBL 5×52: So You Think You Can Dance, Fatty?
Previously on The Biggest Loser David gained weight, losing the Double Bracelet and gaining the Nothing Bracelet. Double Whammy!
Tonight, Jason Coleman’s going to train the contestants (and Michelle!) in some dancing stuff.
Plus a fight for Immunity between Phoebe, Lisa and Shannon. David’s ineligible this week, also as a result of having gained weight. Poor bugger’s being kicked from pillar to post!
Today the contestants are totally in the dark instead of the trainers, Michelle says. Michelle’s hair is… A mess. Apparently that’s all part of today’s surprise as Lisa and Phoebe both comment on it.
They’re training off-site today so they all pile into cars and head off.
Phoebe says they’ve done a lot of interesting training sessions off-site but this is just… a gym? How strange.
It’s Michelle’s local gym, apparently.
Lots of people standing around warming up, doing weights down on the floor and stuff. One lady’s wiping the sweat from her brow in the centre then she throws the towel to the ground and starts busting out some dance moves and is slowly joined by more dancing people, eventually including Jason Coleman.
Phoebe knows who he is, she knows what show he’s from and she doesn’t think she can dance!
Everyone’s really stoked to see the dancers doing their thing. But then Jason gets the music killed and tells everyone to come on downstairs and do some dancing with them.
Jason says the training today will smash them in a cardio sense but it’s very accessible for “normal people”. Hahahahaha. Even he knows he’s not normal!
Jason’s got his head dance instructor there, two of the girls from second year of So You Think You Can Dance and one lad from this year’s show.
Jason tells them to look at the dancers’ bodies – he’s 40 himself but if you dance every day you’ll maintain and look after yourself. He thinks it’s a great way of keeping yourself healthy.
He says he and the other dancers have been watching and cheering them on so they’re thrilled to be helping them today.
Shannan’s totally got the Flashdance sweatband across his forehead to go with Michelle’s ridiculous haircut… oh dear, so tragic!
David’s struggling to get the dance moves down but he’s having fun so he’s doing his best.
Jason’s got them doing the same things in step with their dancers.
Shannon’s really impressed because he didn’t really think it was a hard workout, he’s having fun and wanting to learn the steps, he’s not feeling how much work it is – but his heart is pounding away and his shirt is drenched in sweat.
Now they’re teaching them how to do the “body rolls” which Lisa says probably didn’t look great when she was doing it but she’s having a great time.
Then they do some ballroom stuff. Phoebe’s got Jason as a partner for this part and Phoebe says she’d’ve never thought of doing such things in the past but now she’s having a lot of fun when she gets things right.
David gets to carry a girl and twirl her around during the practice. But now it’s time to put it all together into a performance.
Shannon and his partner start it off, his partner being the girl who started it originally, so they do a couples variation on the original intro.
Lisa does some cool gimp-dancing with her partner. David does some twirls with his girl, Phoebe does a cartwheel and stands up and pushes her partner in the chest, much to the “Wooooo!” of her contestants.
Phoebe has Jason and Will on either side of her at one point and she’s thrilled to have professionals dancing with her. She’s obviously a huge fan of the show.
She’s particularly happy to now have an idea how to dance, she won’t be the chubby one dancing anymore she’ll feel sexy and beautiful.
They end with a typical dance-group-pose thing. Looks like fun was had by all!
Now the dancing fun is over it’s time to head up to the top oval for a Challenge.
After the last weigh-in there was no Elimination but next weigh-in, there will be.
And the only way to guarantee yourselves another week is to gain Immunity.
And David can’t get Immunity, as already stated. He’s not too fussed though as he’s had to sit out plenty of other things due to injuries.
Hayley says today will test the other three in a number of ways. But more than anything it’ll test their friendship because it’s every man for themself in the race for Immunity.
Lisa tells us she’s not concerned about the friendships, they all know that when Immunity is on the line they’re going to do their best. She thinks that since it’s just the three of them it’ll just be good fun!
There’s 15 flag poles on the ground, 5 for each competing contestant. It’s up to them to hoist the flagpoles into an upright position. But not their own flagpoles, oh no. If all five of your flagpoles are raised you’re out of the challenge.
So it’s a race to see who’ll be the last person without all their flags raised.
Their tools will be winches and they need winch handles which are on flagpoles behind them or something.
Each set of flagpoles has two winches so two people can raise two flags at one time. Not sure how that works either.
Phoebe’s planning on playing fair by doing the same to Lisa as she does to Shannon.
Apparently the contestants have to raise a flag up their flagpole to retrieve their winch handle.
Then they head back and hook up a rope to the winch and start winching up a flag.
Lisa and Phoebe have gone for Shannon first up while Shannon’s gone for Lisa. Shannon’s doing quite well by himself while the girls are struggling quite a bit.
Shannon’s managed to get Lisa’s first flag up before Lisa and Phoebe get Shannon’s flag up.
Phoebe thinks it’s great since her flags are being left alone so far as Shannon moves on to winching another of Lisa’s flags!
But Phoebe and Lisa finally get two of Shannon’s flags up. Phoebe works on Shannon’s 3rd flag while Lisa goes to work on Phoebe’s first flag.
After Phoebe finishes getting Shannon’s third flag up she moves to pulling up one of Lisa’s flags.
David thinks Lisa’s made a blunder by raising Phoebe’s flag as Shannon was clearly the strongest competition in this challenge but Lisa’s been babbling to us for a while about how she’s not good at making snap decisions!
But now Phoebe has her first flag up. Lisa then stays on Phoebe for another flag. Weird.
Then Shannon drops off Lisa’s flags and goes to Phoebe’s flags too.
Lisa’s on 4 flags now, Phoebe’s on two, Shannon’s on 3 still.
David seems to be encouraging them all pretty equally.
Shannon and Lisa are on 4 flags each, Phoebe’s still only on three but with Shannon and Lisa both working on her she’s almost gone.
Shannon then tries to go to Lisa’s last flag but Phoebe’s working on that and Lisa’s working on Phoebe’s last flag. So he’s just going to sit back and take a break since he’s hardly going to eliminate himself.
Phoebe figures Shannon probably has it in the bag now since she’s half-hoisted the flag for him. Lisa’s trying to get Shannon’s flag started but she’s too far behind.
So Shannon wins Immunity for the first time in the competition. And he didn’t even have to make a pig of himself to get it!
He’s really stoked to win a challenge, too.
So Lisa, David and Phoebe will be vying for the only other spot above the Yellow Line at Elimination. So if they want to stay in the game they’ve got to step it up!
Tomorrow night it’s “a heart pumping test” on the spinbikes. Something about if your lights go out, you’re out? I guess they’re generating energy for car headlights?
And Commando Steve is smashing his Desert Rats. Again. You know the drill by now!
