TBL 5×50: The Worry-Free Weigh-In!

Previously on The Biggest Loser.. swimming! Diving off tall things! Hiking! NEW ZEALAND!

Also Phil and The Commando locked horns over a quad bike that was stuck in the mud.
Tonight, Round Two!

And back at Camp Biggest Loser there’s a weigh-in… with no Elimination to follow. Which is fortunate as someone has gained 100 grams since the last weigh-in. No idea how they managed that, maybe they ate too much kiwi fruit?

Shannan and Michelle jog up to Camp Biggest Loser once more. Michelle says it’s fantastic to be back, even though New Zealand was pretty awesome.
Michelle says she’s expecting to see the contestants feeling pretty good… which is the opposite of poor old Shannan. He’s got laryngitis after his week in New Zealand, poor boy!
Shannan croaks out that he’s lost his voice and Lisa says, “Gee, what a shame!”

Phoebe says the biggest thing she got out of the trip to New Zealand was leaving behind the fear of failing and gaining some success.

Shannon’s trip highlighted how small his goals had been. It made him realise he can abseil and dive under ships and he now knows there’s so much more out there for him.

David’s got a new motto out of it – Embrace life. He left the old version of himself back in NZ.

Lisa says it showed her she’d missed out on so much and how different her life will be now. She can do anything now and she can share it with her husband and her girls.

Michelle says the change is amazing, it’s a complete 180. I guess someone told them that thing about how a complete 360 is a full circle and thus not a good thing! :D

Michelle’s taking David for Last Chance Training while Shannan gets the other three. Though he has to point them out and point upstairs to where they’d be training.

But meanwhile, back in the Northern Territory. For their first Last Chance Training in the Top End.
They’re at Point A. Concrete blocks, steel posts and one hundred metres of wire are there.
They need to be at Point B. And once they get there, they need to turn them into a fence. Fun fun fun!

I can tell they’re having fun already from the grimace on Phil’s face. Joe’s handling it fairly well.
Phil says he’s feeling the heat and humidity and it’s excruciating.

Steve says it’s time for them to toughen up or they’re going to be left by the wayside.

Phil’s pretty much over the whole Commando training thing. It’s just not fun anymore. So he’s got a real negative mindset which is setting him back today.

Time for some burpies!
Phil’s first effort was pretty weak. Steve tells us that he wants Phil to understand it’s his job to get in his face, push him physically and mentally and make him a stronger person.

Commando Steve asks them if they know what’s happening tonight? They say it’s a weigh-in. Steve asks Phil if it means much to him and he can’t answer so good.
Steve gets right in Phil’s face and says he doesn’t like confrontation too much, does he? Why? Why? Why? Why?
It’s not in Phil’s personality, Phil says. He got beaten up as a kid, real bad. The Commando says, “Yeah, and? What have you achieved out of being on this show?”
Steve asks him if he thinks he’s going to be able to stand up to people when he gets home and Phil thinks he will be able to, if it’s for the right reason.
Steve asks him if “this” (the training) isn’t everything? There’s more to life than this, Phil says. Like what, Steve asks?

He’s learnt a lot from the experience. There’s your family, your job, your role as a father, as a role model.
Steve asks him how he wants his kids to grow up, to be fearful of others? Does the way Phil act possibly impact on his kids? Phil says he’s thought about that. What’s he done about it?
Phil’s thought about getting his SON into karate. Not his daughter, no mention of his daughter. Prat.

ANYWAY.

Steve says it’s not about getting someone else to teach them those things, their biggest influence is their Dad.
That’s why they’ve got him out of his comfort zone, in this environment. This will help build confidence so when he goes back into the “big bad world” he’ll have what it takes to face it.
Steve tells him to get his butt back down the field and keep up with Joe!

Phil says Steve made a lot of good points in training and now he’s sure he can put the bullying stuff behind him and lead his kids into the future and so on.

The Commando sends them back to their camp to clean up and prepare for the weigh-in tonight.

Meanwhile back at Camp Biggest Loser Shannan is croaking out the basics but has it mostly written down on a whiteboard for the contestants so he’s not having to bark orders all session. They’re to write their times on the board too.
And since Shannan can’t stay for the training session, they’re going to have to motivate each other. They know each other well enough by now that they can get in each other’s heads and push each other to the maximum. Shannan says he has the utmost faith in them to smash this. Poor boy’s trying his best to croak out instructions and motivation before he heads off.

Phoebe’s doing a whole bunch of different weights in various exercises first. Then the others have to try and beat her time.
Shannon’s in the mindset of giving it his all every training session now.
Lisa’s amazed by Shannon’s efforts every time. But Shannon’s urging her on to beat his time, too.
She misses out by a single second but Shannon is telling us that it’s not just about strength, it’s about her mental strength and Lisa is very strong in that regard.

They’re all smashing it out as much as they can because they don’t want to let Shannan down, or themselves down at the weigh-in.
They’re all sure at the end that he’d be proud of them. And Phoebe’s confident now that she can do it on the outside because she’s done the training without a trainer at all, now.

David’s always wanted Michelle as his one-on-one trainer.
Hardly an original fantasy but it’s certainly a good one…

Michelle’s really going to smash him in training today. Michelle’s reminding him, each time it starts to hurt, that there’s three other people working hard to ensure it’s him going home this week.
Plus he’s also got the double bracelet. Worked out who he’ll give it to? He’s not planning on going home!

Michelle knows David’s hurting at this point but they’re not stopping, it’s Last Chance Training which means even more training. And then some more training. Bit more! Okay now for some more training!

Michelle says David gave her everything in training today and she couldn’t break him.
David’s got quite a bit more confidence now, saying when the others come back they’re going to have a fight on their hands for his spot!

Phil and Joe head to the weigh-in at a clearing conveniently lit by floodlights…

Phil: 90.2kg
Loss: 1kg

He’s disappointed in that. It’s a low result, he was hoping for 2 or 3kg. So now he’s going to refocus, again, and train as hard as he can for the next weigh-in.
Phil tells us he’s going to stop using the environment or the training as excuses. He’s just got to keep doing what’s been working for him all the way through.

Joe: 113.3kg
Loss: 2kg – 1.73%

(We didn’t get told Phil’s percentage.)
Joe says he’s not making up excuses for that small a loss. He’s running out of time with The Commando and he’s got to lose the weight to get past Phil. So what’s his plan of attack? Keep on training, step it up some more!

Steve says that when the going gets tough, the tough get going and that’s what he’s trying to teach them here. See you tomorrow at training!

Joe says that it was a bit rough only losing 2kg, but it’s better than putting 2kg back on!

Shannon’s actually quite confident going into weigh-in. David’s also pretty confident.
Lisa’s not sure who’ll be at the bottom. And we don’t hear from Phoebe!

But Hayley’s there, looking faaabulous.
Rah rah, toughest part of the competition is still to come.

But they’ve been granted a reprieve! No elimination this week. As a reward for making it this far. And not at all to cover for the missing week due to the charges that were levelled against that guy we can’t talk about!

No Elimination this week but there’s still a lot riding on the weigh-in. Whoever loses the lowest percentage this week will receive an as yet unstated penalty.

First up will be Phoebe! She’s just hoping for 400 grams to get under 80 kilos.

Phoebe: 79.5kg
Loss: 0.8kg – 1%

800 grams isn’t very much, she says, but she’s mostly thrilled to be back under the 80kg mark! She tells Hayley it feels pretty brilliant.
She’s not surprised as they’d done so many things other than training in the last week.
Shannon says he’s really proud of her for getting under 80kg. Nevermind the “small” loss, she’s happy and that’s great!

Shannon, coincedentally, is up next!

Shannon: 144.2kg
Loss: 0.9kg – 0.62%

Wow, second place behind Phoebe. Shannon’s pretty sure he’ll be fourth after that. He’s obviously quite disappointed. He’d been happy to get down close to 139kg.
Hayley points out that he’s up over 70kg in total now.
A loss is still a loss, but Shannon’s still a little bothered by that small a loss.

But Shannon says he won’t give up after this. He can understand why people do, but he’s not going to. He’s now got a taste of what it will be like on the outside but he’s sure with his support network he’ll be okay.

Lisa’s turn next.
After an ad break.

Lisa: 77.2kg
Loss: 1.4kg – 1.78%

Biggest Loser of the week! David was surprised to see her beat Shannan.
Lisa’s very relieved after seeing Phoebe and Shannon’s results. She wasn’t expecting much since she’d done pretty much the same as them for the week.
I think the main difference would be that she didn’t do the beach hike with the pack on her back. Interesting…
Lisa says she looks up at the big old picture of herself and remembers she doesn’t really look like that anymore. She knows it’s achievable to lose the 50kg she had as a goal. She’s only about 7.5kg away from that now so she can do it.

Just one person left to weigh-in, David. He’ll need at least 700 grams. That seems very easily doable for David. He’s done much bigger than that every single week…

David: 103.6kg
GAIN: 0.1kg – 0.1%

So he’s in fourth place and will get the penalty, whatever it happens to be.
Shannon’s baffled as to how they’ve all lost such small numbers and particularly David who’s had a one-on-one session with Michelle.
David’s gobsmacked. He didn’t think he’d taken his foot off the pedal at all.
He’s not sure what went wrong. Diet was much the same, put plenty into training, he can’t explain it.
Hayley asks him if maybe his body has plateaued as he’s a tall lad.
David didn’t think he’d be done in this competition five minutes ago but now, with the penalty, maybe he will be.

Hayley then says David’s penalty is… to take the Nothing bracelet off Shannon’s wrist.
But first, he has to give up the Double Bracelet.
HAHAHAHAHA.

He gives it to Hayley, though. Not directly to another contestant.

Shannon’s been wearing the Nothing bracelet since it came into the game. He tells us that he hasn’t hated having it but previously he thought he’d only give it up when he’s going home, so he’s happy to still be there and no longer have the bracelet on his wrist.

Hayley says things don’t end there. Because David not only came last, he gained weight, he’ll incur another penalty – he will not be eligible to win Immunity.
OUCH.

Phoebe says that’s a huge bonus since it means one of the other three will be able to have Immunity and thus, if they’re still there, have a much better chance of voting David out!

Now, since Lisa is Biggest Loser, she gets a reward.
She gets to decide who’ll have the Double Bracelet from now on.

Oh, that’s so not a reward. Lisa says she’s always wanted nothing to do with the bracelet.
Hayley says she could keep it herself or give it to Shannon or Phoebe.

And she needs to decide right now.
Well, after Hayley asks her what she’s thinking. Lisa says she doesn’t want to put a target on either of the other two’s backs. She feels like she should take it herself.
Phoebe thinks she should keep it for herself and use it as motivation to go all the way to the end and win the whole damn thing.

Lisa finally makes her decision and decides to take it herself.

David’s not convinced she was worried about the other two, she just wanted it herself.
Nahhh, I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason, David. She’s too nice!

Hayley rubs it in and tells them they need to lose more weight next week because soon they’ll be up against the rivals they can’t see – far from here two other contestants are slogging it out. Phil and Joe are being trained like soldiers right now but very soon they’ll return.
Hayley suggests they make the most of their bonus week. They can’t afford to waste a single moment of the week.

Good luck everyone, Hayley will see you soon!

Tomorrow night, David’s very worried about having to tell Michelle he put on weight.

Plus, Camp Biggest Loser gets a rude awakening… A video from The Commando of his two recruits! They’re the strongest they’ve ever been and they’re coming for you!

And later in the week… Jason Coleman from So You Think You Can Dance will be teaching them some dance moves. Along with some spunky chicks and dudes.
