TBL 5×47: Yarrrr, there be treasure buried on this here island!

Previously on The Biggest Loser… Abseiling! Tall ships! Bloodnuts screaming from the top of a mast!

Tonight the race is on. It’s time for a Biggest Loser treasure hunt. Cool.
But what’s the treasure? Find out after the Losers go for a swim and a kayak and a run and a dig… Sheesh!

Something a little more physical for their next challenge, Shannan says. And at the end of the challenge is a treasure that could really help them in their future in the game.
David speculates it could be Immunity…

Michelle says the race starts where they are right now. They swim out to their kayak. They have to dive underneath the kayak (uhoh, Shannon!) to unclip their kayak from the anchor.
They paddle their kayak a mere 400 metres to the other side of the river/lake thing to the other beach.
On the other beach are four tikis, each has one of their names on it, each has a key attached, each has a shovel provided and a designated digging area. Dig up your treasure within the allotted 30 minutes. If you don’t find it in that time you will not receive it.
And Michelle says to trust her, it’s something they want!

If it’s letters from home I’m gunna be pissed. They just saw loved ones at Makeover Day!

All the contestants swim into the water and start trying to unclip their kayaks. Lisa’s first to unclip hers and get into it, followed by David. Shannon’s struggling a lot because he’s still very heavy and the kayak keeps tipping over.
He finally drags it back to shore so he can simply sit in the kayak and paddle from there.
Phoebe’s in third place. Lisa gets to shore with 22 minutes remaining.
David shortly thereafter.

Lisa heads up the beach and gets to digging!

Shannon catches a lucky break and gets a wave in to shore.

David’s digging away feverishly and is the first to find his treasure chest.
Lisa also hits something hard and thinks there’s something hard in the sand and then she realises it’s the treasure chest!

David’s opening up his box while the others look on instead of continuing to dig. Silly people.
David’s got his karate black belt in his treasure chest. It’s things from home. How exciting.
Well, the others are excited. I’m distinctly unexcited.

Lisa unearths her’s next. Shannon and Phoebe are still burrowing away. Phoebe manages to drag hers out of the sand.

Shannon still can’t find his. He’s got 5 minutes left. He starts stabbing the shovel into the sand and finally hits something hard. He digs it the rest of the way up. It has a hole in the top though from where he stabbed the shovel into it. Hope there’s nothing that dislikes sand in his box!

David sits with Michelle to dig through his treasures. His black belt is particularly significant because it’s actually two belts joined together so it would fit around his waist.
He’s also got a tiny little ribbon wrapped box. He opens it and starts crying. Michelle is all, “What is it? Let meeeee seeeeeeeee!!” It’s a charm bracelet David gave to her that symbolises his love. Awwww.
David’s kids have sent him a letter, too. On greeeeeeeen paper!
There’s also a photo of David cuddling one of his kids as a baby and he was bloody huge!
But he’s not going back to that person.

Lisa’s chest has a letter from one of her daughter’s. It’s in the form of a card with “PROUD” on the front. And lots of girly writing inside. Very widely spaced girly writing.
Whichever girl wrote it said Lisa’s their hero now. Awww!
Next bit is Campbell’s shirt. Which causes more tears and Lisa buries her face in his shirt. It smells like him. “I want to eat it.” “It’s probably got a lot of fibre in it…” “Calories?” Shannan makes a “I dunno!” face and suggests she check the book.
Dorks. Clearly they are dorks.

Phoebe’s box is next. Lots and lots of photos. A picture of Phoebe on a motorcycle in Vietnam and some villagers had come across to have a look at her because she was such a big girl.
Really? I’m pretty sure they have fat people in Vietnam, too. Maybe not as many as we do, but still…
Phoebe’s also got a letter from her Mum, n’awww! She says lots of nice things about how fantastic Phoebe’s looking. She’s made an amazing change to her life and they’re very proud of her. It had hurt her Mum so much seeing Phoebe heading towards a lifetime of health problems and she always dreaded having to bring it up.
Phoebe says the thing she’s most proud of is that she’ll be able to go home and say to everyone that she’s really done her best at something. She’s really given her all.

Shannon’s the last chest to be opened.
The first thing is one of his old gold chains from home. His parents bought it for him back when he was a teenager and he’d stopped wearing it about a year ago because it wouldn’t fit around his neck.
Now it fits WITH EASE. Could probably go around one and a half times. And it looks good on him, not too cheesy.
Another thing in his chest is his old football jersey. He has to take his shirt off to try and get it on and then he pulls it over his head. He’s not worn it since he was 17 and now it fits quite comfortably again. So he’s keeping it on.
He also has a letter from his girlfriend. She’s proud of him. She says she doesn’t want to sound like a broken record by saying that but she is proud of him and she’s looking forward to seeing even more of the changes in him that he’s started.
The man she said goodbye to is gone and has been replaced by a happier and stronger man.
She’s grateful he’s been given this opportunity and he’s grasped it with both hands.

GIRLS ARE SO MUSHY!!!

Shannon tells Shannan he knows he has what it takes to go all the way in the competition.

Meanwhile in the Northern Territory…
Today’s training is about revisiting the sessions of weeks past. They’re going to do it all over again. Take a whole bunch of equipment from point A to point B… on top of that there cliff.
To do that they have to carry it around and up the back of the ridge.

Phil says that he thinks the Commando’s message is for them to reflect on how far they’d come.
Personally I think he’s just a sadist.

Steve says they’re moving the equipment with ease today. They’re a lot fitter and stronger now.
They’re carrying the sandbags they originally filled earlier in their time with the Commando. Back on the day where Joe reached breaking point and maybe considered taking a swing at Steve…
But today they’re doing that easily as well. They know they can carry them, they know they can use them as training gear, it’s no issue for them anymore.

Steve says that’s it, when they get back up the top. Time to head back to the barracks, pack your kit, they’re heading North.

Erm, North isn’t the way back to Sydney!

Tomorrow night is part Masterclass, part challenge thing.
Complete with a Kiwi Cook!
Then it’s time for a leap of faith off a really tall building. We see Lisa and David taking the plunge but will Shannon and Phoebe muster up the courage?
Find out tomorrow night!
