TBL 5×44: The Final Four Fly to New Zealand (after they send someone home at elimination…)

Previously on The Biggest Loser Phil lost stacks of weight somewhere in the desert while Rick found 500 grams of weight from somewhere.
Probably the near-3000 calories he ate at Temptation, huh?

Tonight! Rick and Phoebe face elimination then the remaining contestants head to New Zealand, like the final four do every smegging year now!

Rick’s really upset on returning to the living room and doesn’t want to talk about the weight gain at all. Everyone is very sympathetic though. I think they all know how hard he works so to see him put on weight is a little discouraging for them all.
He puts it down to putting on muscle. He says it’s hard to live with it when he doesn’t know what’s gone wrong.

Phoebe also feels like the effort she put in wasn’t really reflected on the scales. And it sucks to be under the Yellow Line AGAIN.

David winning Biggest Loser for two weeks in a row cements him as a threat, Shannon says.

Phoebe tells us she could do this at home but she needs to be there still just as much as the others.

David sits down for a chat with Rick. David says he’ll fight for Rick to try and get him to fire up. With his weight gain this week he’s clearly less of a threat than Phoebe who could conceivably lose the magic 50% of her weight.

Phoebe, Lisa and Shannon have a chat. Phoebe tells Shannon she’d expect him to vote Rick out, that’s where her head is at right now. Especially as Rick’s weightloss next week will likely be epic.
Shannon says that it’ll be hard for him to vote out Phoebe or Rick as he’s good friends with them both. Shannon’s always says to Rick and Joe that he’d do his best for them.
Shannon tells Phoebe that he knows she’s a big threat too.
Then he tells us that who you eliminate is critical because the person you save this week could send you home next week.

Lisa’s voting for Rick, not Phoebe. That was pretty easy.

Everyone files into the elimination room as a little mini-ad flashes at the bottom of the screen – ComFest Gala tonight. Guess I CAN in fact watch the UFC replay at 8.30pm since Good News Week isn’t on!

Oh, hey, yes, Elimination.
Choice between two of the youngest contestants this week.

Phoebe doesn’t regret taking part in Temptation but she’s obviously still not learned her lessons and it’s a bit scary how quickly he can fall back into bad habits.
She also thinks Rick will be a bigger threat next week as he bounces back from the weight gain but in later weeks it could very well be her.

Rick didn’t figure on being up for Elimination. First time he’s been under the Yellow Line and he did it whilst holding Immunity. Didn’t see that coming!
He wish he’d not eaten so much food at Temptation, it’s not going to help him especially when he needs to lose weight.
Rick agrees that Phoebe is more of a threat than her.
Hayley then points out that Rick also has the Double Bracelet on his wrist which might also work against him…

Lisa’s first to vote. She has to consider things strategically and think about who might push her under in the next few weeks so she’s voted for Rick, of course.

David’s next. He’s voted for Phoebe!
I mean, first he has to go through some claptrap about who’s the bigger threat and rahrahrah.
He’s thinking about his longevity in the game and strategy and one of the people has almost hit his weight goal and the other still has a lot to go so he’s voted for the one with a lot of weight left to lose, which is Phoebe!

One vote all so I guess Shannon’s vote will be revealed after the next ad break…

Shannon says it’s a really hard decision, it’s two people up who he’s really close to in the house and in the end he had to base the decision on what’s in his best interests…
After the ad break Shannon has voted for… Rick!

Rick looks a little disappointed but not too surprised. Guess he won’t get to see Joe come back.
But maybe he can get himself fit in time for the 42km marathon and get back in that way!
Rick says the hardest bit about being eliminated is knowing that he let himself down. So he’s got some regrets on what might have been.

David’s shattered. Rick was his best friend in the house, they’ve been through a lot of crap together, but as bad as Rick feels he should be proud of his efforts so far.
Lisa tells him not to drop his shoulders and his head again because he’s such a great person and he deserves to stand proud.

Phoebe’s very grateful to Shannon and Lisa for not voting her out. She wants to be as quality a person as everyone in the room – as caring as Lisa, as smart as David, as funny as Shannon… and then there’s Rick, who even on his worst days looks like he’s stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad or something. But he has a very genuine character and you miss him when he leaves a room and she wants to be as strong and determined as Rick. She’s really going to miss him. Awwww!

Rick says everyone knows he started the show pretty negative and everyone has a chuckle at that. He was horrible, dark and negative and now he’s leaving positive and has a massive life ahead of him and he can’t wait!

Rick came weighing 176.2kg, lost 61kg, 36% of his original body weight. Now he’s leaving as a confident and positive young man. But in a couple of weeks he’ll be back for the 42km marathon!

But before he leaves there’s some business to take care of…
If you’ve seen the video diaries you’d already know where the bracelet is going…
Rick says the person he’s passing it on to has been a star performer since day one and they really deserve it… he’s giving it to David, of course!

Rick tells them all to keep going hard, don’t get complacent and, “I love yas all!” Awwwwww!
Say your goodbyes, Rick. Hayley says they’ll miss him.
Lots of hugs all round from Rick. Lisa mumbles something to him including something about being proud. Awww!

Hayley congratulates the Final Four. Then reminds them that Joe and Phil are still in the hunt and they’ll be leaving nothing to chance.
But for now, good night and Hayley will be seeing y’all real soon, okay?

Next day there’s some guy on the parade ground blowing a conch horn thing. So everyone files down in their pyjamas to have a looky.
It’s a maori guy! Blowing a conch. They walk up to him and the maori guy starts doing a haka.
Maori guy looks a little sheepish to be doing it by himself. But he gets through and then puts a letter down in front of them.

After a bit of a standoff the maori gestures to Shannon to pick up the darn letter so Shannon does and opens it up, quite nervously I might add!

“Contestants for the last two months you’ve all had to face many of your darkest demons in order to break away from the weight that has held you back for so many years. Now it is time to enter the next phase of your journey. Pack your bags the four of you are going to New Zealand!”
BIG GROUP HUG! Yay! Everyone’s really happy. They rush off to their rooms to pack. Leaving poor maori guy there all by himself on the parade ground. Awwwww!

Lisa’s worrying about what she’ll wear then she remembers that she’ll just be wearing more black Biggest Loser gear, derrr!

Everyone’s stoked to be part of the final four.

We get a flashback bit of Shannon saying his thigh is more than a meter wide. Not sure it’s quite that bad. A metre around, perhaps! He was biding his time back then, he says. Just waiting to die. Now he can’t even imagine how he let himself go that far.
And he’s really looking forward to whatever the trip to New Zealand will bring by way of challenges.

And they all manage to fit into one car!

Meanwhile in the Northern Territory the lads are preparing for their “toughest training yet”. They’re going to be up against the toughest, strongest and most resilient individuals he’s ever met. They’re not fazed by the heat, the burning sun or this burning land. In fact they thrive on it!
“Red Dust, let’s go!”
They’re kids. How scary.
They’re from a college in Alice Springs. And Kyle van der Kuyp, Australian Indigenous sprinter who represented Australia at the Olympics, Commonwealth games and World Championships.

Kyle says he’s an ambassador to help the kids make the best choices in their lives. Most of the kids seem to be Aboriginal in descent, since you can’t see that for yourselves!

Phil says if you can get kids into a healthy diet and exercise regime it’s a great start for their lives.

Then Steve has a fun exercise. Grab a partner’s hand and balance on one leg while you try and get the other person off balance.
So there’s lots of hopping and flailing around and so on.

Then there’s some knee slapping fun. One person tries to slap the other person’s knees while they try to block them.

Then some sprints in relays with two teams.

Then a tug of war between Phil and Joe’s “teams”. Joe knows he’s stronger than Phil so he reckons they’re in with a good chance… but no! Phil’s team of mostly girls emerge victorious!

Kyle says the kids respect Phil and Joe for coming out to their land to train and for getting their lives in order.

Commando Steve tells the kids it’s all about having fun and making good, smart choices. Healthy mind, healthy body.
At the end Steve says they’re dismissed and then the kids crash tackle him to the ground and Steve falls over laughing and grinning. Hee!

And now the contestants are in New Zealand!
Everyone’s very impressed by how pretty New Zealand is and how awesome they are for being there.

We get a flashback of Shannon on the first day and how terribly he did. He says he honestly didn’t think he’d make it to the end of the day.
Today? Today he walked a long, long way down the beach and didn’t even care about how long a distance he was walking, he had three good people beside him and he was in New Zealand!

Michelle and Shannan are standing on the beach and they figure it must be Shannon, Lisa, Phoebe and Rick walking towards them, thinking David must have been eliminated. They’re both gobsmacked. But they have script to deliver to them all first.
Shannan says it was amazing to see them all walking down the beach. Except Rick put on ten years as he walked up the beach!

They finally get around to asking what happened and they tell the trainers Rick had put on weight. Shannan and Michelle are speechless. Michelle tells us she’s devastated… but there’s 4 contestants there who’ve done amazingly well and they’re going to be doing cool things in New Zealand!

But first they have an amazing greeting for them!
It’s more maoris. Maorii? Maorises?
These ones have spears and a much bigger horn thing and there’s girls there and then they start singing and doing the crazy eyes. No haka so far?
Everyone is really happy to be greeted with a song. Lisa says it was like, “Yay! We’re here!”

Campbell, Lisa’s husband, has a maori background, apparently.

Then they all get a “hongi”? Strong handshake, lean in and smush noses together. Signifies taking in some of each other’s strength and spirit. Shannan’s hoping they’ll take on some of the warrior spirit in the trials to come.
The maori lady finishes with a “god bless you all” and “kia ora”. God? Tiki god, perhaps?

New adventure, Michelle says. Let’s go!

Rick arrives home before they go adventuring though.
His family is all there. His Mum is amazed at his new figure.
2 months on… Dude’s got muscles! He’s all skinny and looks like a football player. Which is what he’s been doing. Football training and he keeps up with the other boys just fine.

Then we see the audition footage. And he was just huge. A huge mass of flesh. The difference is astounding.

As are his girlfriend’s pregnancy boobies!

Tomorrow night, abseiling! “Well, if I die, at least it’s in a really nice place!” Says Shannon.
Later in the week, a sailing ship! Jumping off the rigging and swimming underneath the boat and some other jumping and digging in the sand and oh my! So many things!
