TBL 5×38: Ahahahahahaha wipeout!

Previously on The Biggest Loser Phil had a shocker at the weigh-in, gaining a whopping 4kg!
Phil and Joe also got flogged in their training with Commando Steve in the desert.

Meanwhile back at Camp Biggest Loser David managed to go past his goal weight and Caitlin and Lisa face elimination.

Tonight, Caitlin and Lisa face elimination!
Also Layne Beachley is going to try teaching the fat people how to surf. The results are sure to be hilarious!

Everyone files out of the weigh-in room looking a little glum.
David’s thrilled about being Biggest Loser of the week, but also sad because someone will have to go home.

This is Lisa’s first time under the Yellow Line and to be under the Line with Caitlin who so desperately needs to stay is extra hard.
She tells everyone that she knows it’ll be a hard decision but what will be will be!
She tells us that she’s hoping Rick and David will vote herself out and Shannon and Phoebe will vote for Caitlin.

But as she’s talking to him she also says that he and Caitlin are in the same position – they need to be there both physically and mentally.
But Lisa knows how hard it is to write anyone’s name down and sometimes you’ve got to go against the grain, but you’ve got to be able to live with yourself, too.

Caitlin has a chat to Shannon, too. She’s playing the “we’re both still the tubbiest fuckers in the house” card, as expected. She says she knows where his loyalties lie, but it’d be hard for her to be sent home now.
Caitlin says it’s not about the money for her, it’s about getting her life back.
Shannon tells her that if anyone would understand the loyalty thing it would be her, but after having a chat he’s got a lot more to think about, too.

Shannon’s got no idea what to do!

Now it’s time for elimination. Hayley has a very beige top on. Looks like a nice cut but… beige!
I’m sure some fashionista thinks it’s “champagne” or something but anyway.

The vote could be hung tonight, Hayley reminds us. In that case Caitlin would be the one to go home as she had the smallest percentage weight loss at the weigh-in.

Caitlin says she still needs to be there with 50+ kilos to lose. She’s only halfway on her journey and has so much more to learn about herself mentally.
Hayley asks which of them would be the smart vote, strategically? Caitlin says either would be a good choice strategically as Caitlin has a lot to lose still, but Lisa’s 3rd on the Leaderboard and she’s got the potential to go past the 50% weightloss mark.

Lisa’s got mixed feelings about maybe going home tonight. She might get to go home to her family but she’s also leaving everything at Camp.
And she doesn’t feel safe tonight because they all know Caitlin’s got so much work still to go.
Lisa is asked if she’s learned enough to go home and Lisa says you can always learn more, though she can go home and will have lots of support if she does.

Time to vote!

Rick’s up first. He says that it was a tough decision and that this far on in the competition it comes down to strategic choices but he’s had to vote for… Lisa!
What a surpriiiise.

Phoebe’s turn. She says it wasn’t a lightly taken decision and she’s chosen to vote in her own best interests, she’s voted for the stronger competitor, the one who can push her below the Line week after week, and that’s… Caitlin!

One vote all. One more vote for Caitlin will send her home.

David’s up next. He’s friends with both and they’ve both shown they’re amazing women and can lose plenty of weight so it’s come down to his longevity in the game so he’s also voted for Lisa.

Two votes for Lisa, one for Caitlin.

This gives Shannon the deciding vote.
Shannon says it was a hard thing to have to do and it’s been a battle between his head and his heart and he’s been weighing up who poses a threat to him now and who poses a threat to him in the future.
So he’s voted for an ad break to give him more time to decide. Naturally.

After the ads he’s voted for… CAITLIN!
Ouch.

Lisa whispers to her that she can do it.
Caitlin says she’s upset she couldn’t reach the goals she wanted while still being there and that she’ll be leaving her boys behind. Her life is so much more blessed now she has them in it. Awww!
Caitlin thinks she’s leaving too soon but she thinks it must have happened for a reason. She needs to be able to continue it on the outside, on her own.

Caitlin says the most important thing she’s learned is to wake up and embrace each day, taking it on instead of rolling over and hiding. Can’t hide away from life, it’s too precious.
But what has Life got in its pocketses, precious?

Caitlin thinks her Mum would be proud of her, she’s turning into what her Mum had brought her up to be. Nothing’s going to stop her now!

179.4kg start weight, over 52kg lighter on the way out. Impressive effort!
Hayley gives her some encouraging words on her way out…

… but first, some business needs attending to. Caitlin’s the wearer of the Double bracelet. So she has to pass it on to someone else.

Caitlin’s chosen to give it to Rick. Interesting, putting a Firm member on the chopping block.
It just barely fits around his gigantic manly wrist!

Time to say byebye and leave!
Lots of hugs and kisses and muffled words on her way out. Everyone telling her to stay positive and so on.
I think Caitlin might be a little enamoured of Rick. I’m just sayin’!

This week they can expect a few more surprises, Hayley says. And with only 5 of them left they’ll need to be in top form!

Caitlin heads home in a yellow taxi!
She comes home to a fairly small family gathering, but it includes Daina. They have to take each other’s new look in as it’s been a while since they’ve seen each other now!
2 months on… Wow. She’s still, well, big, but the difference from the start is EXTRAORDINARY.
She’s been doing a lot of training with her trainer and also training on the side, like going bowling with a friend.
When she joined the show she was a size 8XL in Men’s, now she’s down to a size 18 in women’s. Very, very impressive!
Think it also helps that she has a more flattering haircut. The old one did nothing for her.

Having seen her two months on the Camp folk may have made the wise choice as she’s obviously got the mental strength to really give the others a run for their money.

Meanwhile, in the Northern Territory… Phil and Joe arrive at Simpson’s Gap where The Commando waits for them. Looks like a nice place for a picnic? But not for them, Steve says!
He tells them they’ve got to aim higher and work harder today.
The boys are really getting into the whole Yes-Sir stuff.

They’ve got two logs and a huge bit of rope. Run back and forth along the creek bed lugging a log each. Then without the log. Then when he says Down, get down and do pushups, then crawl, then get back up and run some more. Touch the rock and start back up the creek bed. Over and over.
Phil’s starting to really feel the strain while doing lunges down the creek bed.
Steve’s pushing him hard and encouraging him to keep going. He catches back up to Joe and they do some burpies.

Steve’s happy Phil isn’t giving up, he wants to push him physically and mentally.

Then they have to walk along on their knees with their hands above their heads. Brutal stuff!

Phil says it’s a good opportunity to toughen himself up some more. Dealing with intense temperatures and surroundings, so you’ve got to motivate yourself and when you get home you’ve got to continue doing that.

Then Steve gets them to pull the rope, one end each. While Steve leans back holding the midpoint to slow them down and make it harder on them.
But Joe and Phil are determined to drag him all the way to the rock. They’re not going to quit today!

Commando Steve seems quite impressed afterwards by the boys determination today.

They’re really stuffed by the end of it but Steve says it’s going to toughen them up, it’s going to make them men!
You can teach an old dog new tricks, Phil, Steve says.
Joe thinks to himself that you can teach a young pup new tricks, too. So everything Phil learns, Joe’s going to learn too!

Michelle and Shannan arrive at Camp knowing there’s been an elimination…
Michelle notices Caitlin missing, straight away. She says to them that she’s disappointed and sad. She tells us they put so much time and effort into them and to see them go is really tough.

They go over the results and Shannan is amazed at how close the weightlosses were.

Then they relay the way the voting went down.

Michelle says she’s sad to see Caitlin go home because she’s seen the potential in her, but she’s sure Caitlin can keep going on the outside with the support network and how much she’s learned at Camp.

But where’s the Double bracelet gone? To Rick!
Michelle is amused. Rick says he’s going to run with it. $400,000 is a huge reason to stay in the game for him, particularly with a baby on the way!

And yet again it’s time to get out of Camp for training. Phoebe says they said it was fun but you can’t trust that. They like surprises which turns out to be public speaking. They like fun which turns out to be training and it’s hard.

So they all pile into the cars. Shannan’s borrowed some sunglasses from The Commando, apparently.

Looks like they’re going to the beach. In their Biggest Loser gear. Real subtle, guys!
There’s big red Vodafone surfboards on the beach. Shannan points towards Layne Beachley surfing some waves and says they’re going to be doing THAT!
Well, they don’t know it’s Layne yet. But I can tell!
Phoebe tells Lisa that if 11 year olds can do that, they can do that!

Layne comes wandering out of the surf and up the beach towards them and Phoebe suddenly blurts out, “Holy shit, is that Layne Beachley?!”
Yes Phoebe, it’s Layne Beachley. The legendary Layne Beachley, Michelle says. Seven times world champion, six of which were consecutive.
Layne says they all look amazing.

Michelle asks her how she stays motivated. You’ve got to keep setting yourself new goals. Short term goals and long term goals.
Layne won her first title halfway through a series, so she had to keep setting herself new goals. Like win an event she’s not won before, or win by the largest margin or win the most events in a season. The Losers have probably about reached their goals and so now it’s time for them to start looking for more goals to set for themselves. Not just get to Finale then stack the weight back on, as Phoebe says. They’ve got to keep going.

So today they’re going to learn how to surf, because it’ll be outside their usual comfort zone. They all seem quite excited by the idea.

Layne says surfing is a whole body workout because you have to paddle and catch waves, then pushing yourself up and balancing on the board.

They’re all having a lot of fun doing it on the beach at first, though David says he’s struggling to keep his balance even on the beach.

Now it’s time to try and do it in the water!

Shannan asks his group what their goals were. They all say certain weights and Shannon adds “and marriage”.
Shannan’s hoping they’ll get some clarity out of the ocean, as he and Layne do. Once they’re done surfing he’ll ask the question again to see where their heads are at then.

Lisa’s the first we follow trying to surf and to her credit she’s managing to get up and on to her feet… with someone on the back of the board helping to balance it. And not for very long.
But she eventually manages to stand upright for quite a while and ride a wave in, so she’s having a hell of a lot of fun!

Meanwhile Shannan’s showing off cruising through some waves alongside.
Lisa says she’s reassessed her goals now. She wants to get to 65kg and wear her wedding dress… with some nice lingerie underneath!
Lisa tells Layne she’s going back to Perth and taking her girls surfing, she loves it that much. Layne asks if that was her first time and she says yes and Layne says she loves her spirit!

Phoebe’s next. She manages to get upright on the board while telling us she had an original goal of 65kg and now she wants more than that. A bit of passion and burn for something. She wants to outlast the others, she wants to make it to the final four.
She actually manages to ride a wave in by herself by the end of it.

Poor old Shannon isn’t allowed to try getting up on his board, but he says he had a lot of fun just riding his board in through the surf. And it does look like a lot of fun!
Shannon’s new goal is to make the final four as well as lose the weight and get married!

Phoebe says “that was the best” at the end and Lisa loved it too. Can’t wipe the grin off her face.
Shannon says he’d love to win and Lisa says Final Three out of Four and they will FIGHT to win!

Now it’s Michelle’s team’s turn!
David’s already surpassed his goal. His new goal is 100kg and he knows that’s very attainable, now. And when he gets there he’ll set another goal.

Rick’s doing much the same. He’s also setting a goal of trying to win the whole thing as he’s got 400,000 reasons to do so with that gold bracelet on his wrist.

Rick’s tried some surfing before and he sucked at it then and he figures he’ll probably suck at it again.
Could’ve done without the bumcrack, Rick!

David says he was mostly failing… not quite as much as Michelle was failing, though! She keeps giggling every time she falls over though so she’s obviously having a ball.

Everyone restates their goals for Layne. Lisa still won’t narrow it down from 65-70 until Layne pushes her some more and she commits to 65kg.
Lisa tells us she’s more determined than ever to get to that 65kg, now she’s put it out there.

Layne tells them all if they want to go surfing again, let her know!

Michelle says training sessions like today’s show you can have a great time and a great workout and just have a great life!

Tomorrow night… TOTAL. BODY. MAKEOVER.
AWESOME.
Looks like Phoebe might be getting a brighter red for her hair, Shannon might be getting his beard trimmed – maybe gone altogether?
Not sure but the Makeover episodes are always worth a watch!
