TBL 5×37: Desert Rats and Fat Campers Weigh-In

Previously on The Biggest Loser Phoebe scored herself immunity, Phil won the half-Marathon and picked Joe to share his “reward”… Five weeks in the desert with The Commando!

Tonight it’s Last Change Training for those remaining at Fat Camp prior to the next weigh-in. The Yellow Line is back to normal, two people below the Line. Who will it be this week?
Also, “the unthinkable happens” when Phil and Joe weigh in. Whatever, Mr Voiceover Man. You’re always making more of things that end up being nothing, I don’t trust you anymore!

Michelle and Shannan arrive at Camp Biggest Loser. Shannan’s got the lads for training today. They’re all had injuries throughout the competition but they’ve all given 100% in training, they just invariably end up finding themselves sitting on the sidelines for challenges and so on.
Shannan says he’s come up with a training routine today that all three can do despite their respective injuries, so Shannan doesn’t want any whinging or complaining, they can do this!

Paul Anderson is in The Yard today. He’s Shannan’s boxing coach and has been for a few years. And he still manages to make Shannan throw up on a weekly basis.
Shannan says that like it’s a good thing though…

Time for David to man up and be a good role model for his kids. Shannon has to step up to the challenge of marrying his girl. Rick’s got a baby on the way. So harden the fuck up the lot of ya!

Shannan says they’re going to push the boys further than they’ve been pushed before, they’re going to go and go until they can’t go anymore.

Boxing with Paul, uppercuts with Shannan then squatting while doing weights. That’s their circuit today.
Shannan and Paul are egging the boys on a lot. Paul’s telling David he hits like a girl! You hit like a girl! Paul slaps him around a bit with the boxing mitts to rile him up some more.

Next exercise Shannan is dropping a medicine ball on Shannon’s gut while Shannon does crunches. Ouch!
Shannon wants to be a husband who has a wife who isn’t worried they’ll wake up to a husband that’s dead.
Throwing the ball at the gut keeps your abs switched on the whole time and you’ve got to focus on it hitting each time. I think Shannan’s just a sadist, personally!

Rick’s aching after all the boxing but they’re still not done. Shannan’s trying to egg him on then calls on David to prod him as well. What’s it take to be a Dad and so on. You’ve got to be a role model and you’ve got to be there for your kids and so on.
Rick knows he’s got to step up now and he won’t quit. He’s a different man now.
Rick says he’s really looking forward to being a Dad. A Dad! At 20! Yargh!

Shannon’s completely changed. David made Shannan a promise on day one to never quit and he’s still standing there honouring that promise, he says.

Shannan tells them all to stand there with their heads held high at weigh in, they should all be very proud of their efforts.

Michelle’s got the girls and they go to the trophy room to have a look at Lisa’s name on the Honour Board. And Michelle reminds them they’ve yet to have a female Biggest Loser overall, something her and Shannan would love to see.

Day One, Elise and Teneale were fat!
Today they be phat! Or something like that. They’re both quite thin and looking fabulous. You’d never know they used to be enormous. And they say their relationship is a lot healthier now since losing the weight, too.

Michelle’s pulling out new tricks today because the girls are all getting kind of used to training, they work hard but they need something to change things up.
They need to find their inner warrior. Their inner warrior princess!

Michelle’s focusing a lot on Caitlin today and Lisa is quite happy about that!
She has Caitlin doing pushups on the floor and then it’s time to move to the treadmills and cross trainer.

Phoebe’s doing well, as is Lisa. Caitlin’s falling apart. She started feeling light headed and like she was going to faint but she manages to get back up in time to get back on the treadmill… and do a total faceplant while she hangs on and lets the treadmill give her a hefty friction burn I suspect!

Michelle says this is the time Caitlin can make a statement about how she’d carry on in the competition. Whether she’d get back up or not.
And indeed she does get back up and trots away again. Though she’s cheating a little at the end by holding her weight up on her arms. Though given how much Caitlin weighs it’s probably about the same amount of exercise!

Michelle says that Caitlin proved to her that she’s got the toughness now and Phoebe agrees. Michelle says it’s going to get tougher but they’re going to have to dig in and pull out the inner warrior.

After training Michelle sits down with Caitlin to discuss diet stuff. Nutrition be essential, yo!
Michelle is really happy with Caitlin for getting some broccoli into her diet. And happy overall with how her nutrition is coming along, much better than it was apparently.

Last Chance Training for the Desert Rats. Beautiful red sand. In hill form. That the boys have to jog up first.
Commando Steve says today’s session will be a killer!
There’s sandbags at the bottom of the hill. Steve wants them to run down there and fill them with sand. Apparently it’s a 40 degree day.

They’ve got two sandbags each full of sand now. So Steve tells them to take them up the hill!
We see post-training interviews with both boys and they’re covered in red mud. Sweat plus red sand is really quite pretty!

The Commando says they’re not coping too well so far but he’s got something else in store for them.
“The Leopard Crawl”. Crawling up the hill on their bellies. 40 degree heat, sand holds heat well. Phil says you could fry an egg on the sand. Steve thinks that’s a load of crap!

“Phil was moaning and complaining. The sand’s too hot! TOO BAD!”

So if they want to complain then they can do it in a pushup position. Hands and toes. And suddenly they can move really quickly!
Phil says he’s never seen Joe get really riled up before and lose it but he can see it brewing when they get to the top of the hill.

Joe says he doesn’t like people getting in his face and usually he quits. He says to us that he got angry at The Commando when he should have got angry at the training, Commando Steve says you have to channel it, focus it. He wants them to return to Camp as machines. He wants one of them in the Finale. Do they understand? “Yes, sir!”

After they’re done with training Steve sends them back to their camp… but he’s not done with them, Steve has another surprise for them yet…

The boys get back to camp and just want to lie down and get some rest. But Steve says it’s not just about the training and nutrition it’s about self discipline. Let’s go!
Joe is concerned they’re going to do another training session but no. Steve has some big badass army boots for them. Clean them, polish them. Everything you need is in the backpack he gives them.
Boot polish. Razor. Hair clippers.

Boots shined, cleanshaven, hair gone by the next time he sees them!

Joe’s a little bemused. He says it’s taken him years to grow his beard.
Really? Cause there’s not much to it so far!

Time for weigh-in. Joe says Steve’s no Hayley Lewis, that’s for sure!

Phil looks… strange… with no hair.
Joe has total babyface going on without the beard!

Joe weighs in first.

Joe: 122.5kg
Loss: 4kg – 3.16%

He says he’s not happy with those results. Steve asks him if it doesn’t meet with his expectations? No it doesn’t. He’s used to 6kg each week.
Commando Steve says they’re going to have to ramp up the training then. Joe tells us he’s excited by that because he’s got a lot of anger built up from that number so now he can focus that into training.

Phil knows his calories will be up a bit due to carb loading for the half marathon but he’s hoping for an okay result.

Phil: 99kg
GAIN: 4.9kg – 5.21%

CRIKEY. He realises he must have loaded up on too many carbs and messed up his diet too much with the change of location.
He’s quite upset. Steve tells him he can’t use being away from Camp as an excuse. It’s time to ramp it up for him, too!

Phil keeps calling him Sir which is weird since I suspect Phil’s probably Steve’s elder but oh well!

And now it’s time for the remaining Campers to weigh in.
And guess what? They’re nervous!

Hayley’s sporting a lovely black off-the-shoulder dress thing today. Very understated and simple. Kind of toga-ish, though not loose like one.

Phoebe’s first up as she has immunity.

Phoebe: 82.5kg
Loss: 2.5kg – 2.94%

Pretty good considering how light she’s getting now. She’s quite happy so long as she gets a minus every week.
She was going nowhere in her old life, had nothing to be proud of. Now she can be proud of having run a half marathon! Less than 20kg till her goal weight and she’ll be in the 70s next week!
Phoebe skips off the platform. She’s a bit of a dork it seems!

Rick’s up next. He’s only 6.6kg from his goal, he says.

Rick: 111.1kg
Loss: 5.5kg – 4.72%

Very nice loss, very very close to his goal now!
He’s now lost over 61kg, Hayley informs him. Rick’s really happy because his goal was to lose 62kg by Finale and he’s almost achieved that already.
He’s set himself a new goal to still be there when Joe comes back. He’s never been apart from his brother for more than a couple weeks before, so five weeks is quite a while!

David’s turn now.

David: 107.8kg
Loss: 5.5kg – 4.85%

He’s now in first place ahead of Rick. Not quite safe yet as Phoebe has immunity.
David says his goal had been 110kg and he’s smashed through that today and it’s a great feeling. His knees are shaking and all.
The old David is dead, he’s a new person now and he likes the new version of himself.

Lisa’s next up. She was last week’s Biggest Loser and she’s worked hard and kept her diet right, but will it be enough?
FIND OUT AFTER THE BREAK. Guh.

Or after we catch up with Wayne!
He’s looking really, really thin. And like a total cheesecake.
He’s looking forward to Finale to see everyone and the changes they’ve made.

Now for Lisa’s weigh in…

Lisa: 81.5kg
Loss: 3.2kg – 3.78%

3rd place ahead of Phoebe. But that puts her in a precarious position as Phoebe can’t fall below the Yellow Line.
Until Lisa gets to 67kg it’ll be the lightest she’s been since getting married.
She still needs to be there as she’s not in her wedding dress yet. 11-12kg away from her goal so she still really needs to stay.

Shannon will need at least 7.5kg to stay above the Yellow Line. He says all three guys laughed because there was no chance of him losing that much!
So I guess he’s going to have lost that much then…

Shannon: 150.6kg
Loss: 7.3kg – 4.62%

He’s still really excited because he figured he’d had a bad week but it turns out he’s had a cracker!
Shannon knows he’s still a fat guy but he’s not as fat and he’s on the way to being even less fat. He thanks everyone at Biggest Loser for giving him a life – not given his life back because he never really had one before, gave him one!

Just Caitlin to go, now…
She’ll need at least 6.1kg to push Shannon below the Line with Lisa. Else she’ll face elimination with Lisa.
She’s worked hard, she says, but…

Caitlin: 126.9kg
Loss: 4.6kg – 3.5%

Not enough! Caitlin bursts into tears. No idea why, Lisa’s the much bigger threat, she isn’t part of The Firm and it’s too soon to grab hold of the Gold bracelet…
Needs some training with Shannan. So she can harden the fuck up!

David’s this week’s Biggest Loser. So he’ll finally get his family visit, I guess?

Caitlin and Lisa now face elimination tomorrow night.

Tomorrow night… will loyalties be swayed at Elimination?
And Layne Beachley drops by for a wet and wild training session. I hope they remember the “WE’RE NOT BEACHED WHALES” signs…
