TBL 5×32: Four-way Elimination and four on the floor…

Previously on The Biggest Loser the head to head weigh in was held.

Tonight we find out if they’ll vote with their heads or their hearts. Or with a backstabby stabby stabby knife thing.
Also, they’re going to go to a race track and help some race car drivers with their race cars. Awesome!

So, four people are up for elimination, which is pretty much half the household at this point. David says everyone’s feeling a bit weird about it.
Jarna’s proud of Lisa getting Biggest Loser and Lisa is very excited about it… but also a bit mixed emotionally because Jarna’s below the Line.

Joe says he thinks there’s people who need to be there more than others. Caitlin’s still huge and needs it more than Jarna or Phil.
Phoebe feels quite safe as Shannon and Lisa should have her back. So it’ll come down to Phil or Jarna, essentially.

So Jarna then? The Non-Firm member? Obvious much?

Shannon and Lisa sit down with Jarna for a chat and Shannon confirms that he won’t be voting for her.
Jarna knows she needs to make some friends if she stands any chance at all.
Shannon quite cleverly works out the best chance of getting one of the others to swing would be to get one of them to vote out Phil because they won’t want to send Caitlin home.
They figure Rick or David are the likely swing votes. Rick’s more likely as he sees Phil as a threat. David is less likely since David was originally Phil’s partner in the show!

Jarna approaches Rick for a chat, wondering if he’ll be her miracle.
She’s worried that because Joe and Phil are great mates, so voting him out would cause a real rift there.
Phil will keep losing good weight, probably, and will continue pushing Rick down the leaderboard. So this might be his only chance to get rid of him from the game.

Jarna then sits down with David for a chat to find out if he’d be open to putting Phil’s name down.
David says his mind is 50-50 at the moment, between her and Phil. It’s up for consideration because Phil could win.
HE’S YOUR MATE. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO A MATE?! Sheesh.
He doesn’t commit one way or the other so he’ll probably be the final vote on which it all swings.

Joe has a chat with Phil while he’s packing up his stuff. Joe’s asking Phil about whether David might be playing them all from the start. Phil having such a good run of late has put him in the firing line with the others.
David’s had an injury, a couple of injuries, Phil says. And they’ve had some disagreements. So he might’ve doomed himself with bickering!

And Phil says that if David’s voting him out then he’s voting out the friendship for good. Oooh!

Time to file into the weigh-in room. Lots of bogan gear on display today!
Joe’s looking quite presentable though, as is Rick. Good job lads!

Hayley welcomes everyone to Elimination. Because they all totally want to be there right now.

Hayley asks Phil how he feels first. Will his old alliance keep him safe?
He’s hoping so.

Caitlin’s in possession of the Double Bracelet. The only way for someone to get it is to remove her from the game. Will people consider that?
Caitlin’s hoping not, not this early in the game. Early?! Got to be joking…

Phoebe thinks people will vote with their loyalties.

Jarna’s first time facing elimination? Really?
Jarna still needs to be there “a whole lot” she says. She’s just started to find the new Jarna and she’s loving being there.

Lisa’s first to vote. But first she wants to say she wouldn’t vote someone out to be spiteful or hurtful. She really struggled and she’s not voting to send someone home but is voting to try and save somebody.
Yeah, it’s not Big Brother.
She’s voted for Phil, as expected.

Joe’s voting next. He’s made some close friends on the show and he wants to be remembered for playing with respect and honest.
So his vote has gone to Jarna.

Shannon’s voting based on who’s in the right mindframe to succeed on the outside, hit the targets they want to hit, etc. And be able to come back and smash the 42km marathon.
He’s voted for Phil. Phil looks… disappointed.

Next up is Rick. The first of the potential swing votes.
He says it was hard to decide and in a game you usually play with strategy. But this far out from the end you need longevity, stick to what and who you know, so he’s voted for Jarna. With a smiley face!
Jarna looks quite upset by that. It can’t have been a surprise?

One more vote left to reveal. David holds the deciding vote. If he votes for Phil or Jarna they’ll go home. If he votes for Caitlin or Phoebe then it’ll be a hung vote. And because Phil got a lower percentage than Jarna this week, he’ll be the one going home.
Ouch.

David says it was a difficult decision for him and his mind has been on the same names the others have pondered. But it came down to whether he could right Phil’s name down or write Jarna’s name to stick with the former alliance.
After an ad break…
He’s voted for Jarna. Just as bloody well!
Jarna and Lisa are both in tears now. Bye Jarna!

She’s really sad, not about the votes which she knew was coming, but it’s a great place to be and she feels fantastic and is leaving on a really great week… but she’s leaving her best friend behind. Awww!
Hayley asks Lisa how their friendship has changed and Lisa has to pause for a moment and then says, “She’s just my boss, Hayley!” Jarna will still be her boss when they get back to school but there’ll be more to it at the end of the day, now.
And she has no doubt Jarna will go on to kick some ass!

Jarna says it’s been beyond fantastic and amazing and she found the healthy Jarna underneath all the layers of lard. And that feels unreal. Biggest Loser has changed her life!

Hayley says she’s going to take a leaf out of Jarna’s book and not cry, but she’ll look after Lisa for her. Awww!

Now say your goodbyes and get the hell out!

Lots of hugs and mumbly words all round. Jarna tells Lisa to stop crying!
And also tells her she doesn’t need looking after anymore, she can do this on her own. Awww.

Hayley then says there’s some more curveballs coming their way. Like a 21km half marathon.
That’s insane!
Hayley says it’ll be more than a warmup for the 42km marathon, so you better come to the starting line in fine form.

Michelle and Shannan rock up after elimination and as soon as Shannan looks at Lisa, Lisa loses it and bursts into tears. Shannan has been their trainer since Day One, apparently.
So it was hard having to tell him that she was gone. Especially since Lisa herself had pushed Jarna below the Line.
But Lisa was also the Biggest Loser of the week, first female this season.
They also relay Jarna’s loss, which would have put her third overall.
Shannan says she’ll be okay on the outside now, where she wouldn’t’ve been two weeks ago.

Joe said to Lisa after elimination that Jarna has what he wants – that real joy and happiness.

Then they talk about the 21km half marathon. Michelle says that as their trainers they know they’re ready to do this. They’ve got the fitness, it’s just the headgames.
Caitlin says she’s already got the self doubt. She’s not sure she can finish it.
But Michelle says they can do it. It’s not about fitness so much it’s just the mental side that will be their undoing. Believe in yourself and you’ll get there.

But for now, they’ve got a training session! Another out of the house training session as they all head off in their cars again.

They arrive at Eastern Creek Raceway? And they find the Vodafone V8 Supercar in pit lane.
Today’s lesson is about how to operate under pressure!
Michelle introduces Craig Lowndes!

Craig says they’re in his world now. They’re going to do the sorts of things they’d do on a typical race day. The usual crew can do the change before tires in 8 seconds. So that’s what they’ve got to beat!
Michelle says it’s about focusing and realising what you can do when under pressure.

First bit of the pit lesson is changing a tire. Craig demonstrates it himself, even though he’s a driver not a mechanic!
He then shows them the pneumatic unscrewing gun thing they use and gives it a burst, frightening Lisa half to death.
So she gets to go first!
But she does okay.

Caitlin was worried she’d break the car. But she doesn’t.
They’re all working as a team, one person handles the gun thing while the other shifts the tires around and puts the new tire on, etc.

Their first full change attempt – back tire, then front tire, went in 44.58 seconds for Shannan’s team.
Second run through they have a better idea of what to do – 29 seconds!

Shannan says the confidence is important. Back yourself in the 21km race and you’ll smash it!

Michelle’s team then has a crack at the same thing.
47 seconds for their first attempt. Tsk tsk!
Phoebe drops one of the big nuts the first time, so the second run ought to be better.
And indeed it is, 30 seconds!

So that was the practice. Now it’s show time!

Not only do they have to do the pit stop they have to pull the car from the end of pit lane to the tire change point, change the tires, then pull the car the rest of the way down pit lane.
Shannan gives Michelle’s team first shot at it, as Shannan’s team is the reigning champions, apparently.

Craig Lowndes hops in the car while Rick, Phil and Phoebe pull for Michelle’s team. Shannon can’t help due to his injury.

Shannan says this is a challenge that’s never been done before. Can’t imagine why!
Craig’s sitting behind the wheel. Probably the slowest he’s ever gone in his entire life!

Then it comes to tire changing time but Rick struggles to get the front tire undone. It’s stuck and they eventually have to get the Vodafone guy to help. And it’s not just them – he struggles to get the tire undone, too.
Michelle says Rick’s changed a lot, previously that would have worried him quite a lot and he’d’ve fallen apart. Now he’s sticking in there and keeping his team motivated.
Time to beat: 2mins 26secs.

David will be in pit lane for Shannan’s team with Caitlin, Lisa and Joe pulling the car. Two girls but hopefully none of their tires will get stuck…
The team is working well together, having already worked out who’d be the wheelman and who’d be working the rattlegun.
They change all four tires in good time and then began powering down the rest of pit lane.
Joe’s doing it tough but Shannan says there’s no way he was going to let his team down.

Final time: 2mins 31secs.

Close but no cigar!

Shannan says that today’s exercise was nothing like a 21km race but it’ll stand them in good stead as it taught them a lot about mental strength, etc.

Craig’s been given two VIP passes to give away, courtesy of Vodafone, where they can meet him and Jamie Whincup on a race day and so on.
Craig chooses Rick as he’d done so well keeping his team motivated and working hard.

Michelle thanks Craig for coming down and spending time with them, he was down to earth and fun and Craig says it’s the Aussie way, you’ve got to have a go!

Then it’s time for Jarna to arrive home and there’s heaps of people there. Including some strange woman who’s totally feeling up her body. I guess she’s inspecting the changes?

2 months on, she’s looking great! She’s down to a size 14-16 from a 22 or so, previously.
Seeing Jarna on the interview tape is a real eye opener. She’s really big and obviously really unhappy.
She’s hoping to be a size 12 by finale and feel and look beautiful.

One of those hopes is realistic. And one of those hopes is not!

Tomorrow night, preparing the mind and body for the half marathon.
And a challenge. Stand on a wibbly-wobbly platform for as long as possible to win Immunity?
Then later in the week, 21km run!

… and an unexpected visitor.
“SURPRISE!!!” It’s Commando Steve! And he’s in the desert! And he’s wearing his sunglasses! :-D
