TBL 5×23: Take the money and run?
Previously on The Biggest Loser Joe’s girlfriend and Phil’s boyfriend Hazem El-Masri turned up for a visit.
Tonight an “ultimate test of willpower”. Big offer of cash to leave the game with no possibility of coming back.
Will anyone give in to Temptation?
Chris says no money in the world would make him go away, which is a real shame…
Michelle finds her contestants in the gym… but not training, tsk tsk!
She gets them up onto the machines with backpacks on. No explanation of the backpacks. Very unusual.
David’s first up for one on one treatment, boxing mitts with Michelle. He’d been lying about his life and lying about what he was eating and lying to his friends. And he’s embarassed by that now.
Punchpunchpunchpunchpunchpunch. “No more lies, you know?”
Michelle says it struck a chord with everyone, the training today, and she finds David outside afterwards, on the ground, in tears.
He couldn’t stop training today because he just hated the person he used to be. He’s proud of where he is now but still ashamed of where he was to begin with.
Michelle tells him he’s broken through 20 years of denial with that admission and David says to us that he thinks that that is his breakthrough moment at Camp, the turning point in his journey, etc.
After an ad break they’re all nomming on yoghurts and such. Jarna heads into the kitchen for a coffee (really? they’re allowed coffee?) and finds an envelope.
It has a letter inside it.
Head to the weigh-in room, important decisions need to be made. Or so the letter says.
Hayley’s there in her pink watermelon colour top that just looks weird. And the leaderboard is up on one of the screens again.
The opportunity they have at Camp is something money can’t buy.
OR IS IT?!
No, you can’t pay to be on the show, Hayley. We already know the answer.
Security man comes in with a chunky metal case with heaps and heaps of cash in it. Quite a few smiles on various faces.
Hayley has an offer that even the strongest of them can’t refuse.
Hayley offers Jarna, in last place so far, $1,000 to leave Camp Biggest Loser forever.
Jarna seems unimpressed. As does everyone else.
Ahh, but that’s not all. The money comes out of the eventual winner’s purse.
But if you take it then you’re gone for good. No chance to come back in, no point competing in the marathon, you’re gone!
Jarna turns the $1,000 down. Rick’s not surprised, nor is anyone else.
Shannon’s next to receive an offer. Hayley takes the $1,000 and adds another $4,000 to it. Will he take it?
Shannon was already gearing up to say no but he didn’t want to say it right away, that would be rude.
He does eventually say no, however.
Phoebe receives the third offer. $10,000. Phoebe says that’d make a big difference in her life and that’s a lot of money for a 19 year old.
Hayley says Phoebe could kickstart her life with $10,000, or she could have her health. Phoebe says she’ll kickstart her life with health! Good on ya Phoebe!
Chris is next to receive an offer. $15,000 now. PLEASE TAKE IT.
Chris says to us that he doesn’t want to be in that position because the money would be so helpful, he doesn’t want to have to make the choice.
AD BREAK!
Hayley gives him another prod after the ad break, asking him if the money would do a lot for him. Chris says that he’s not got that long left in Camp anyway and he’s got to think about the rest of his life thereafter.
Chris says to everyone that The Biggest Loser is about rebuilding your life and $15,000 goes a long way. He’s sorry but he’s going to take the fifteen and go home and see how strong he can be out there.
Shannon is clearly crushed. He didn’t think $15,000 would be enough but he gives Chris a nod, it’s his decision.
Phoebe says to him that if it means a lot to him then they’re not going to hold it against him but geez, maybe think about it one more time? Because this is only the beginning of what he wanted to get to.
$15,000 is good and all mate but you need your health, too!
Chris says he was crushed before he got there, his life was nowhere and a lot of it was due to his money situation being not good. And $15,000 can help with that, majorly. And he thinks that’ll help him more than leaving a couple more weeks down the track with nothing at all.
Hayley says he’ll be leaving immediately with no hope of returning. Come collect your money and say goodbye to your fellow contestants.
Really? No twist? We’re getting rid of him?!
Chris says he feels stronger and lighter and faster now than when he arrived.
Shannon says to Chris that if he gets out and Chris hasn’t lost more weight, he’ll kick his ass!
Now they’re down to 10 people left in the competition. So it’s make or break time. Step up or step out!
First singles weigh-in is coming, so work hard little fatties!
Michelle and Shannan jog up to Camp for another day. They enter the loungeroom together, which is always a tipoff that something big has happened.
The trainers look all around at everyone who’s still there and then Michelle asks where Chris is at?
So they explain. In case you’ve forgotten what happened, read back about 20 lines, boofhead.
Michelle isn’t sure whether it’ll be the right decision for him, only he’ll know. Shannon thinks he made the right call but he’s just hoping Chris will continue on the outside.
Daina says she was disappointed Chris took it because it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, etc.
Shannan says that he understands where Daina is coming from, but look at it from Chris’ point of view. When you’ve been living in a tent $15,000 seems like a lot more money!
Tomorrow night we have some alternative training techniques with bike riding, rollerblading, basketball and who knows what else.
Janella’s going to teach us about good carbs and bad carbs and I’m going to say the carbs in donuts are good no matter what Janella tries to tell me!
And there’s some big breakfast cookoff challenge thing. I think the trainers are just looking for more free feeds…
