TBL 5×20: The first single elimination thingy for the year
Previously on The Biggest Loser Michelle told Caitlin she was eating up her training. Phil made a goose of himself on the scales and Caitlin and Daina overcame the odds to win at the weigh-in.
Tonight will they vote with their hearts or their heads?
I’m guessing they’ll vote with their heads, having already eaten their hearts.
A round of applause for the girls as they all head out to the lounge room to chat, post-Weigh-In.
Then congratulations for Phil getting Biggest Loser of the week. He says the last time he won anything was “Mug of the Week” at the local tavern and he got 100 schooners, which he and his mates polished off the following weekend!
Caitlin says Rick will probably lose 10kg next week after a relatively small loss this week. Rick is concerned he may have plateaued already.
Daina’s feeling the weight of responsibility. I think Caitlin’s looking forward to punting someone though she doesn’t say as much…
Daina and Caitlin have a chat with Rick and Joe first. Even though The Firm is over, will they still be looking out for their mates? And Joe says yes, they’re still going to look after their mates, alliance of not.
Phil and David are threats as well but Daina’s hoping the friendships between them all will stay strong.
Next for a chat is Chris and Shannon. Awwwkward!
Daina tells them straight up that they’re on the list of potentials to vote out. Later in the competition both boys could prove to be huge threats.
Shannon decides to speak for himself since it’s only one of them at risk. He needs to be there still and he still wants to be there. He’s in the 170’s now, less than what Caitlin did when she started, but it’s still not enough. He’s hoping Daina will treat him like she’d treat her sister. He’s not ready to go and he’s not someone the girls need to worry about.
Daina tells us she still thinks he’ll be a threat down the track because he’s only just started to really lose the weight and still has so much to go.
Chris thinks the girls should be trying to keep the “weaker ones” (his airquotes) and focus on getting rid of the stronger competitors. Smartest thing he’s ever said!
Jarna goes for a chat with the Yellows by herself.
Jarna’s done the math. There’s five girls remaining and seven boys. And she’d do anything to see a girl win and since Caitlin is still there, that’d be her. So does she have the girls’ back? Yeah!
Daina doesn’t believe a word of it though, she thinks Jarna would vote her out because she’s close to her goal weight now and maybe there’s some jealousy creeping in there.
Wayne comes for a chat by himself, too. Daina says they’re currently thinking Chris or Shannon. Wayne says it might be a bit of a shock but he’s prepared to put his hand up for elimination.
Apparently he’s got some issues at home he’d like to deal with? No idea what that is about.
After an ad break everyone files down to the elimination room, though only one couple has their little plate this week. Hooray, this should only take a minute or two then?
Okay, so Hayley’s been recapping how we got to this point for the last minute or so. I guess it won’t be over in a hurry.
Chris is asked about his clashes with Caitlin, does he think that makes him vulnerable? Chris says it was really just a clash on a bad day and since then they’ve mostly been getting along.
Shannon’s worried about going home. It’s easier in Camp. Training and so on is hard but compared to what it’ll be at home, this is a piece of cake. He says that’s a bad choice of words, a piece of low calorie yoghurt or something.
Hayley also asks him about The Firm and whether he thinks that’ll come into play. Shannon says he hopes that since The Firm has disbanded they’ll be voting on people’s merits rather than because someone wasn’t in an Alliance at the start of the game.
Wayne says he’s comfortable in going home now. He doesn’t think he’s got it down 100% yet. And going home to a beautiful wife and kids is no chore. And he’s said to the girls he’d be happy to be sent home.
Jarna’s worried, still. Jarna says that while the alliance has disbanded the friendships are still there, so those at her end of the table are at greater risk than some of the others.
So now it’s time to find out who’ll be leaving. Yeah? Sure. I don’t believe you Hayley. There’ll be an ad break.
Caitlin says it was a tough decision, should they go with strategy, friendship, personality, and ultimately it came down to respecting something they’d said, so that’s why they’ve voted for having an ad break.
After the ads the vote is revealed to be… Wayne!
Wayne nods and looks sad. He says he knows the girls have been loyal throughout and it’s good to see them sticking by it. He’s still got a chance at coming back via the marathon in 7 or so weeks. He’s worried he’ll slip back into bad habits when he gets home but it wouldn’t’ve been fair to send home someone like Shannon or Lisa, who really need to be there.
Hayley says he was a fierce competitor and dominant presence, did something change over the last couple of weeks. His family comes first, he says. That’s all it is.
So something’s clearly happened at home that he’s not talking about.
He says he’ll miss his best mate, Phil and Joe who’s like a son to him. Joe cries. Aww! Wayne says Joe’s Dad would be as proud as punch.
Phoebe says she’s feeling like a bit of a jinx. But Hayley points out she’s had two of her biggest losses since joining Wayne and Phoebe says yes, he’s been there to push her along and encourage her. Give her that little extra confidence, so she’s got a lot to thank him for.
Phil says Wayne’s been a terrific friend to him. He’s never really had a lot of confidence in his life and he really appreciates Wayne. “I love you mate, I really do.”
Phil is sure Wayne will win the marathon, he’s tipping him as the favourite already.
Joe says it’s hard to see Wayne being eliminated. Without him and Phil he wouldn’t be where he is right now. He thought he was tough coming in but those two guys made him tough, especially Wayne.
Wayne says the show has been the best thing possible. He’s picked up two mates, so he’s won. Awww!
Everyone wishes him good luck, lots of hugs and so on. Awww!
Hey, hold on, there’s still a half hour of show left. What the hell?
Ahhh, Hayley says there’s more changes and surprises coming their way. Expect the unexpected.
Transformation to Ajay 75% complete!
Wayne arrives home to a happy little party full of people… including Geoff! His original Biggest Loser partner. Who’s not looking a lot skinnier but looks very happy nonetheless.
2 months on… Wayne’s looking quite fit. He’s got a personal trainer and he’s training nine times a week! Nine!
He walks his little girl to daycare, then jogs home. Then in the afternoon he jogs back to pick her up. He’s making time to fit in the exercise now instead of making excuses.
He loves the zest for life he’s got now, which is the best part of his new diet.
Coming on the show he was a 6X, and now “coming back” he’s an XL.
Coming back? Hmmm.
Audition tape shows just how far he’s come. And he says his whole life is so much better since being on the show.
Shannon, Chris, Jarna and Lisa head downstairs to go make breakfast but there’s a letter in the loungeroom for them to read first. Eep!
Shannon hollers for everyone to come downstairs.
The letter just tells them all to go to the weigh-in room. Nothing else. Kind of pointless.
Phoebe says the worst that could happen is Hayley saying Phoebe you’re the only one without a partner now, so go home. Get out!
Everyone’s nervous heading into the weigh-in room. Hayley’s there. And she says a change is coming. The competition is getting a massive shakeup. The rules of the game are about to be rewritten and they’ll be competing on an entirely new level.
Hayley talks about how they’ve had someone standing by their side all the time. But as of now, there’s no more couples. You’re all competing as singles.
Oh, no. How surprising. That came as a complete shock to me.
But first they’re going to show who’s where on the rankings at the moment.
Chris looks uncomfortable at that idea. Guessing maybe he’s not as high as he really should be?
At the bottom of the leaderboard is… Jarna!
Jarna: 21.8kg – 18.35%
Weak! She says she doesn’t know what else she can do but work harder! Which she’ll do!
Shannon: 39.6kg – 18.48%
Hayley says well done, I say badly done, you only just beat a girl and you’re huge!
Phoebe: 22.5kg – 19.4%
Phoebe’s quite chuffed at that.
Chris: 25.7kg – 19.94%
Chris seems pleased by that. He thinks people won’t see him as a huge threat and thus he’ll last longer and will get to make his assault in the second half of the competition.
Caitlin: 36.1kg – 20.12%
Impressive, especially compared to Shannon’s loss. Daina says Caitlin hasn’t shown her full potential yet, either.
6th place is…
Daina: 21.5kg – 20.44%
Daina’s issue is that she’s starting to run out of weight to lose…
Joe: 38kg – 21.12%
He tells us he’s happy with the weight he’s lost. But he’s still hoping to catch his brother Rick!
4th is…
Lisa: 25.9kg – 21.25%
Strange that her partner is dead last. And Lisa’s the biggest female loser so far. Daina says she’s been flying under the radar a lot and now this has exposed her as a real threat!
Rick: 39.6kg – 22.94%
Only Phil and David are left, the two Grey team members.
Hayley says they’ve been a powerhouse couple. Phil seems quite amused by the whole idea.
Phil: 34.2kg – 23.28%
Phil’s surprised at how well they’ve done. Him, Wayne and Joe trained a lot together and David’s always having to do his own thing due to injuries, so it’s all a bit of a fluke. He can’t promise it’ll continue much longer.
And in #1 position…
David: 42.7kg – 25.79%
David’s been dogged by injuries throughout so he’s proud of his efforts so far. Hayley says he’s now the biggest threat in the competition.
(Note: Hayley announced #1 before #2 but I’m putting them in order to keep things straight.)
Hayley says it’s time to dig deep and try even harder than before. It’s singles time and now’s the time to shine!
After yet another ad break the contestants wander back in to the lounge room to see a pile of black tshirts. They all try them on for size. Joe’s happy his black shirt is smaller, it shows the changes he’s made.
Then they chat about the leaderboard. Phil says he was surprised Shannon was so far down the list but Shannon says he was expecting it.
Lisa is really surprised and everyone says she’s a real chance at winning the whole thing. Daina says she could get down to 60kg because she’s short and Lisa laughs at the idea of her at 60kg.
After that it’s training time. Shannan’s asking his training group to give it to him hard and fast. Ahuh.
Shannan says he’s proud of Lisa for showing them all how far a positive attitude can get you.
Shame about the rest of your team there, Shannan!
And he’s got a special task for them at the end.
50 body weight squats, 50 crunches, 50 bench presses and 50 kettlebell swings. And he wants them all to finish within 4 minutes.
Lots of sweaty workouts today, then.
Chris says he wants to prove he’s a threat in the game and finishes his exercises first. Takes a bit more than that.
The 4 minutes are up and only Chris has finished. Shannon thought he was going well, but not so much.
Shannan is sure they can do this though so he’s going to get them to try it again. He tells us that if you believe you can do it you’ve a much better chance.
Their bodies are even more fatigued this time around but as they’d gone in with a positive attitude for the second run they’re smashing it out.
At the end of the session they all look completely shattered.
Shannan tells us their focus needs to be on weightloss this week, not alliances or partners or anything else.
Tomorrow night… PIIIIIIIIIIGS. IIIIIIIIIIIIIN. MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD.
Challenge night, immunity on the line. Obstacle course in the mud.
And a monetary incentive will be offered again for someone to leave the game of their own volition?
And on Sunday Biggest Loser history will be made! Ooooooooooohhhhh…
